Not only are DK and Cranky in this movie but Foreman fricking Spike is making his grand return to the Mario canon.
Now admit it, whether or not you think the casting is good you guys fricking laughed at literally every single one they wound up choosing because you can't imagine literally any of these frickers fitting the characters. Especially Chris Pratt, the guy who's best known for having a southern drawl.
Good actor doesn't equal good voice actor. They're entirely different skills.

It's funny to see a black guy play toad and kamek, they are the least black characters. I'd sooner expect a black a guy to play bowser or donkey kong. Charlie day is really good as luigi since he actually has the New York accent thing working for him. Same is with Sebastian as Spike. I can see Seth as DK.
Pratt I think has a good tone of voice. What really matters if he does a good NY accent. There's no way these characters are gonna have Italian accents. Unless you're dealing with few syblabl soundbites like in the games, that Italian accent of Martinet would be alienating very quickly.
Pratt has done VA work before and was solid.
I dunno Charlie Day as Luigi kinda fits in a weird way
