This guy's "manga art" is a prime example of anime style that still retains that western influence. The art he draws doesn't even look bad if you look at his recent work, but it definitely looks uncanny.
I still won't acknowledge the "asian genes" meme though.
Anime-style embraces simplicity, understanding that the more details you add, that uglier something becomes. Its goal is to be ultra-minimalist and clean.

This happened to me. I'm not even a good artist today, but I look at things I drew 20 years ago and the only thing I can think is "What the frick happened to me?"
Do you have a blog or examples you wouldn't mind showing? 20 years is a long time assuming you were already a competent artist before.
No, I only really ever sketched and doodled and have a huge inability to stay interested in a work until finished. so all I have are camera photos of random doodles and sketches because I have friends who demand to see anything I've drawn. As I've gotten better though, I lack the ability to come up with ideas/layouts for drawings and always end up with the most basic and boring shit mostly now, where before It was more clearly lacking study but had flavor.
