I want to agree but they are still like 50% Boosts compared to shit like the Type Items and Wise Glasses just giving 10%. and even Gems got nerfed from 50% to like 30% in spite of only working once and being used up, the move lock isn't THAT bad as a drawback considering that.

Bright Powder honestly is pretty underrated becaus people tend to lean into the "Nothing misses ever and Evasion is Illegal" mentality of Smogon Competitive and in game trainers and mons actually use a lot of moves with pretty shit accuracy to start with which makes it more useful.

        Anonymous

if the Type Items did say, a 30% or 50% instead, would there be more sets using those items instead of Leftovers in gen 2?
Bright Powder saved my ass in Stadium 2 at least a couple times. i remeber beating the scientist in Prime Cup because Confuse Ray missed

          Anonymous

A 30% boost is what Life Orb does, so yes absolutely you'd see those items run on any number of wall breakers or mons that already have reliable recovery and don't need to tank a million hits.

Room Service is genuinely a God awful item. It's promising surface level but you either already the slowest mons possible with minimal speed investment or it doesn't even matter because that speed decrease only works once anyways and there isn't many mons that can take advantage of it, and if they do VGC has comps have ways to trigger that without the use of a item slot.

Should've been a Trick Room extender rather than a 1 time speed decrease IMO.

Also it's outclassed at what it does by power items of all things.

how many NFEs actually have better bulk than their evolutions with Eviolite? wouldn't putting Leftovers on the fully evolved accomplish pretty much the same thing? most fully evolved mons also have higher offensive stats than their prevos too

          Anonymous

porygon2 has better defenses than z already so evioliting it makes it a whole lot better, but i like that z has its own viability and isnt completely outclassed like dusclops to dusknoir

            Anonymous

yeah but the vast majority of NFEs do not have higher base defenses than their evolved forms. Porygon2 is an anomaly

          Anonymous

Most cross-generational evolutions will outbulk their evolution by a fair margin when using eviolite, though that doesn't matter much for mons that are fragile as is like Sneasel and Murkrow. The increased bulk is usually more impactful over the course of a game than the small leftovers contribution, especially if the mon in question has access to other forms of healing.
Generally speaking Pokemon that don't get a noticeable BST boost from evolving are going to be good with eviolite. Dusclops and Porygon 2 are the obvious examples, but you'll even see eviolite work well on Scyther and Ursaring.

            Anonymous

i didn't know people ever considered using Scyther over Scizor when Scizor has the far better typing and priority to make up for slow speed

              Anonymous

Scyther with Eviolite was a valid choice over Scizor in baton pass cores before those were eventually banned, thanks to that speed that you glossed over. And with Dual Wingbeat giving Scyther a legitimate offensive niche over its evo, you'll still sometimes see people run it over Choice Band/Scarf for a more balanced set-up set.

    Perfect for first stages
Meh on middle stages with a few exceptions
    Play the games/skill issue

  8. 8 months ago

Eviolite should scale up stats to match the final form so you can use lower stages as their evolved forms. Shouldn't be able to be knocked off too.

      Anonymous

So basically qny pre-evo would be just like their final form, but without the anility to hold an item because of Eviolite.

    No that’s leftovers
Most people who run leftovers on their mons would benefit more from them holding a sitrus berry

      Anonymous

has a point, Leftover is definitly used as a "Filler Item" by a a lot of people.

      Anonymous

This is one of the dumbest takes in /vp/ competitive history. Leftovers is a godsend in Pokemon that are meant to stay for a long time in the field. SB offers a one-time 30% recovery, which is outclassed by lefties in only 5 turns, and can't be triggered at will. Leftovers rewards defensive playstyles and is suited for either walls or mons meant to stay for long in the field, while SB is much more situational and usually suits much more fast-paced strategies (or niche ones like Cheek Pouch or Harvest).

        Anonymous

That anon is absolutely moronic and Leftovers is good even in the current game where there are so many obscenely powerful items that it competes with.
That being said Leftovers' introduction in Gen 2 was a bad thing and negatively painted the progression and path of the series from that point on, and the game unironically would probably be better had the item never existed.

no it's a good thing the item exists

          >A lot of people put leftovers on mons that get 3HKO'd
A lot of people put CB on mons that get walled or RK'ed, that's a skill issue, not the items fault. We're in a meta where technically every wall can be 3 or even 2HKOd under the right conditions, but that doesn't mean it happens every time (and if your mons meant to stay are dying in 3 turns, maybe it's not Leftovers' fault)

                Anonymous

The evos looking good or bad is subjective.
On the other hand , the existence of shitters trying to push Eviolite on these mons as the next big thing, and then it ending up never working out, is a objective fact. Just look up Eviolite Bisharp on the archives for 2022 if you don't believe me, and as for it not working out the fact that it's RU, not even UU, should be enough proof.

                Anonymous

Bisharp has been a genuinely good Pokemon for a long time, the lack of Knock Off really killed it.

              Anonymous

              >Primeape
Was genuinely a good user of eviolite when its evo was banned thanks to how moronic Rage Fist was.
              >Ursaring
Bulky enough to make use of it with a sleep talk set.
              >Duraludon
Fricker is already built like a tank and has a chunky 120 Sp. Atk, unless its evo has ungodly bulk it will make good use of eviolite.

Really the biggest issue with the argument against eviolite right now is that Knock Off is back and a lot of shit gets it, and eviolite users have a lot more to lose from getting knocked off compared to other mons.

                >Was genuinely a good user of eviolite when its evo was banned thanks to how moronic Rage Fist was.

                >Bulky enough to make use of it with a sleep talk set.
Again, bulky enough to do this in NU.
                >Fricker is already built like a tank and has a chunky 120 Sp. Atk, unless its evo has ungodly bulk it will make good use of eviolite.
It also has Light Metal and Heavy Metal as its abilities and no moves. Archaludon has Stamina.
