whats the deal with the ffxiv red mage? i assumed that its similar to other red mages in the series that you can do both melee and magic damage making it mediocre but versatile.
RDM melee damage in other games sucks dick outside of the early game. XIV's melee combo is the job's big dick damage and you spend a lot of time doing it at level 90. The only thing XIV's sucks at is that it needs more support magic. Less damage, more support.
Red Mage usually falls off a cliff past the earlygame since it can only learn mid-range spells (unless you're a Red Wizard in FF1), can't equip heavier armor, can't equip heavier swords and doesn't have exemplary physical or magical stats; usually what makes them worth job-mastering is that they can cough up Dualcast for other jobs, or the versatility of their Red Magic command on other jobs
XIV's Red Mage has versatility in that it can heal and resurrect, is actually better at resurrecting than actual healers thanks to Dualcast, but its melee is just its burst-damage and you're not going to weave in and out of melee range beyond that or anything. It's an adaptation to an MMO, whatcha gonna do

Dragon Sight sucks donkey dick, though. It's basically an ability you HAVE to macro. Any ability that requires that for baseline use in any content is shit.
I bet Dragon Sight will either get reworked totally or removed. Salted Earth for DRK got reworked explicitly because even Yoshida was using macros to just insta-place it at his feet.
Fire IV would be Firaja, not Firaga.
But, that's also not how it works. Fire I, II, III and IV all have unique applications. They're not really upgrades either.
Sorry I meant firaga, also I know but traditionally Fire II is Fira, Fire III is Firaga and Fire IV Is Firaja, it sounds just so much cooler. I know German uses the classic names instead of the numerals.
It serves a different purpose. Fire III only exists to get you in to fire phase from ice phase and to serve as a mobility tool if you get lucky and get a firestarter proc from Paradox. Even back in ARR, you only used Fire III when you got a proc for it. At level 90, you only use Fire I if you mess up bad enough to need a second refresh of your fire phase before casting Despair.
Fire I = emergency phase refresh, Fire II = AoE, Fire III = mobility tool, Fire IV = main fire spell.
I wouldn't mind if square had kept the -a, -ga, -ja naming convention for certain spells, but black mage really doesn't need it.
I know German still uses the element+ga type naming. And some text replacement can't be too hard.
But wasn't the numbered spells how it was in the original and only later titles used firaga and stuff( or it was only done in localisations or something)?
There wasn’t a lot of time/budget for reprogramming during localization in the 80s/90s and a lot of old games had hard limits for text fields because you can fit a lot more words in a smaller space in Japanese.ブリザガ fits in 4 characters but the best they could do in English for FF1 was ICE3.

The Runar-thing has been debunked so many times, cuckposters have given up. Its more that the devs are too hesitant to actually use the characters for meaningful content. And with that I mean DATING. I know they spoke about it, I know some of the devs would be all over that. we got FFT sets for the ivalice alliance raid, problem therein being we didn't get any of the really interesting sets, or any of the classic sets. and also they gave us the FEMALE samurai set for both genders so that samurai wouldn't have access to any kind of heavy armor in stormblood

Same, I’ve been playing since launch but I wanted to have at least one healer at cap, so I bit the bullet. I’ve been getting a hand of WHM now so it’s ok. Dungeons are still scary but ARs and Trials are really fun.

Taking some more pokes at a free-change job system for a D&D campaign. More specifically I'm trying to figure out how to make Sage, Gunbreaker, and Reaper into compelling classes. I'm using 5E as a base for them for simplicity and accessibility reasons, but once I've gotten them down there I should be able to port them to whatever the frick other system easily just by changing around stat distributions or adding/removing spells.
I'm also working on commissioning one of our campaign players for sprites for their characters so that I can flip to them on the virtual tabletop whenever they change jobs. Normally he's been doing them for free and fun, but I insist on money because I'm asking for a very large number of sprites and I have a fair number of jobs in mind.
Was thinking of leveling NIN to get a start on Scouting gear for VPR
But then I think of how painful leveling something all the way from 1 is again and the urge fades.

They were gods after they overbuffed them. That being said if we got PVP style bow mage/gun mage I'd be fine with it.
My biggest grip in heavensward was they sucked off using different attachments for MCH and then all you had was gauss barrel.
And then for BRD you didn't even wanna use wanderer's because it cancelled autos which was like 20-30% of your DPS throughout a fight.
Which meant you'd only use the shit when you were forced to not move.
I saw that video and it was fine.

whats the deal with the ffxiv red mage? i assumed that its similar to other red mages in the series that you can do both melee and magic damage making it mediocre but versatile.
You don't start at level 1 and can't form a bond with it or its design. All new jobs should've started at level 1
RDM melee damage in other games sucks dick outside of the early game. XIV's melee combo is the job's big dick damage and you spend a lot of time doing it at level 90. The only thing XIV's sucks at is that it needs more support magic. Less damage, more support.
Melee, ranged magic, and they can res.
Red Mage usually falls off a cliff past the earlygame since it can only learn mid-range spells (unless you're a Red Wizard in FF1), can't equip heavier armor, can't equip heavier swords and doesn't have exemplary physical or magical stats; usually what makes them worth job-mastering is that they can cough up Dualcast for other jobs, or the versatility of their Red Magic command on other jobs
XIV's Red Mage has versatility in that it can heal and resurrect, is actually better at resurrecting than actual healers thanks to Dualcast, but its melee is just its burst-damage and you're not going to weave in and out of melee range beyond that or anything. It's an adaptation to an MMO, whatcha gonna do

But, that's also not how it works. Fire I, II, III and IV all have unique applications. They're not really upgrades either.
Sorry I meant firaga, also I know but traditionally Fire II is Fira, Fire III is Firaga and Fire IV Is Firaja, it sounds just so much cooler. I know German uses the classic names instead of the numerals.
Fire 3 is definitely an upgraded Fire 1.
It serves a different purpose. Fire III only exists to get you in to fire phase from ice phase and to serve as a mobility tool if you get lucky and get a firestarter proc from Paradox. Even back in ARR, you only used Fire III when you got a proc for it. At level 90, you only use Fire I if you mess up bad enough to need a second refresh of your fire phase before casting Despair.
Fire I = emergency phase refresh, Fire II = AoE, Fire III = mobility tool, Fire IV = main fire spell.
I wouldn't mind if square had kept the -a, -ga, -ja naming convention for certain spells, but black mage really doesn't need it.
I know German still uses the element+ga type naming. And some text replacement can't be too hard.

NIN is whatever. PLD reminds me of the current tomestone gear, RPR is alright. SCH looks like every other SCH set. WHM looks like every other WHM set. DNC looks nice. DRK looks like a mix between the Stormblood AF set and an old Feast set, which I don't mind. MNK looks nice.

Taking some more pokes at a free-change job system for a D&D campaign. More specifically I'm trying to figure out how to make Sage, Gunbreaker, and Reaper into compelling classes. I'm using 5E as a base for them for simplicity and accessibility reasons, but once I've gotten them down there I should be able to port them to whatever the frick other system easily just by changing around stat distributions or adding/removing spells.
I'm also working on commissioning one of our campaign players for sprites for their characters so that I can flip to them on the virtual tabletop whenever they change jobs. Normally he's been doing them for free and fun, but I insist on money because I'm asking for a very large number of sprites and I have a fair number of jobs in mind.
