Master Chief was intended as a faceless, nameless stand-in for the player. He doesn't really have a place in an era of near-ubiquitous narcissism where everyone must show everyone else how amazingly unique they are with paid skins.
I never thought the multiplayer was going to last, it's been dead since 2012, you were kind of dumb if you actually believed Infinite's multiplayer was going to be in any way a success.
Once the Activision deals goes through, MS will put CoD on ice every other year to get them to work on Halo. MS will pretty much own every AAA FPS developer, so they can have one of them work on Halo.
I don't get how 343 can continue to be such a dumpster fire yet stay in charge of the franchise. They've released 3 games and one collection with the MCC. None of them were well received at launch with all having massive issues. Hell, to this fricking day mcc STILL doesn't fully work 100%. The most recent trend with infinite of them removing features the fans love and then reinstating them 2 weeks later and expecting praise for "listening to fans" is so moronic you can't help but laugh at the incompetence.
As it turns out, when there are already firmly established "Live Service" games out the ass, new ones are gonna have to be really fricking good at release to get people to stop playing the game they've already sunk hundreds of hours and perhaps even a large amount of money, to pick up a brand new game with the same general idea.
