Yes.
999 and VLR are both top tier.
999 functions as a complete story.
VLR is a continuation but ends in a cliff hanger, so you won't get closure without playing ZTD.
ZTD is pretty average, lots of unanswered questions, bad animations, plot contrivances.. I still liked it but it's no where near as good as the first two
It depends. Take one of those lame internet IQ tests, if you're under or just barely at 100 you'll love it. Alternatively just play while shitfaced so you don't notice the awkward dialogue, contrivances, plot holes, nonsensical plots, moronic characters. >999 >Future girl has all the knowledge of the future from her past self >Still doesn't do anything to prevent all the bad ends that got her in her own visions
The story breaks so utterly on the reveal that the character who creates the problems only did so to save her own past self but still creates situations she knows will fail because.... uh.... yeah. The writer is a fricking hack.
I liked 999 and I am 130 IQ. I didn't care for the main plot, I just enjoy claustrophobic mystery games with light puzzling. Should I continue and play VLR?
It's made by the same guy.
AI is a really weird puzzle game where you enter the mind of people and try to figure out their memories, but they are in a dream state. Which mean nothing makes fricking sense.
You have a time limit, if you dont move it does not advance, but actions you do in the dream consume or give time.
It's a Mind trip with a VN style world outside of the dream segments. Also, multiple timelines because that guy love that shit.
I played the whole ZE trilogy after playing AI:TSF and every game in the ZE trilogy was between "shit" and "meh" while AI:TSF was good. Why did Ganker lie to me?
Emulate the DS version of 999. They butchered the twist on the nonary games version. If you get that, just use it for VLR. The twist in 999 requires 2 screens to pull off and they did not translate it well at all in the rerelease.
No you have to play ZTD, man, you don't understand. It's beyond just a B-movie. It's maybe the worst game I have ever played, but also maybe the most fun. It's so bad that nearly every 5 seconds you'll have something new to laugh your fricking balls off at. It is incredible.
Yes. And I posted VLR as an example of a character that is supposed to not look the same.
Junpei and Akane are years older in the Mars experiment. Phi look exactly the same, Sigma look the same, and Diana is Mom tier.
Just find a YouTube with descent voice, who will read the whole thing for you while you do whatever you want. I recommend https://youtube.com/channel/UCIJlrEQoJE3eI168TWSl39g
I am okay with it because I play tactical shooters like Ready or not while it goes. Or I write my master thesis. I would never play this type of the game. I saw every single puzzle and the only good obe was the room with robots. Everything else seemed moronic.
Sorry if I hurt your feelings but you are probably a weeb. So not really a human.
God ZTD and the Somnium games are so shitty compared to 999 and VLR, what the frick happened. It's not just the quality of the specific plot and twits, the pacing is also all fricked up it literally does not feel real that the same person wrote and directed them. If I have to go check out the same 8 locations in Nirvana Initiative before moving the plot ahead I will have an aneurysm.
What the frick happened bros, who ghostwrote 999 and VLR for uchi?
AI 1 > 999 > VLR >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ZTD > AI2
AI 2 has the worst twist I've ever seen in a video game before. The game is split up into two timelines since you play with 2 characters, one timeline is 6 years ago and one timeline is the present. The twist is a character looks directly at the player, through the screen, and says the timelines you've been using are out of order and they were tangled up so things you thought were happening 6 years ago were happening now. It makes no sense and it's literally only there to trick the player and surprise them. The amount of asspull and hoop jumping for this to make sense within the world is impossible to take seriously
999 is good
VLR is good if you can have a fun time and not pretend like the biggest twist in the game would never work even though the game was written around it
If he think about the big plot, the fact that it's a floaty excuse of a plot with not much gravity probably is the thing the anon meant. You would have to be on heavy drug and not a sick man to make it all make sense.
The fact that there's no reflective surfaces despite him interacting with multiple metal objects (scalpel, foil, numerous screens) and even the pool he uses to see his reflection he previously used in a puzzle. He never scratched his eyes, nobody ever commented on his fricked up eye, etc.
Also, June literally planned that setup for like 35 years. She would make sure that there would be no reflective surfaces.

There is a scalpel and aluminum foil, the galums are all made of metal, the different knight statues throughout the game, there's water all over the garden and he's been there multiple times including an entire puzzle room, the directors office has a crt monitor in it, etc etc. It's just silly.

She's literally a future seer. She know he does not know because otherwise they would not do that plan. For the couple of hours it goes on, he didnt think of looking at his face, because why? He's just in the Mars experiment, right? Why would his face be weird. People would say something if he was hurt.
Akane death is explaned by the whole Schrödinger's cat allusions. She is both dead and alive, and is alive only because of the possibility of Junpei succeeding, and she knew he did because she's alive, but she knew she was dead if he didnt, so she had to make sure he did otherwise she would have been dead for 15 years.
Nah, you just want attention. Trolling a game that people want to play is just annoying. I can just imagine you saying "hehe I got them!" alone in your basement. That's just sad.
How needy are you.
It's pretty stupid to browse a thread about a 14 year old mystery game without knowing the spoilers. And really, someone could stop reading after the first one (which isn't a huge spoiler in itself) because it's clear what he was doing.
Sure, but it's just a shitty thing, also, eyesight mean that people see the whole text and read it all before reading the first sentence correctly. It's just a shitty move to do to a member of a community just for an epic for the lulz moment.
No. Filled with dumb asspulls and twists that break established rules constantly, just watch a recap as nothing matters
Cringe and andersonpilled.
Yes.

999 was changed for the worse from the original somewhat, but VLR is just better.
>the nonbinary games
do i have to play both games, is one better than the other?
It depends. Take one of those lame internet IQ tests, if you're under or just barely at 100 you'll love it. Alternatively just play while shitfaced so you don't notice the awkward dialogue, contrivances, plot holes, nonsensical plots, moronic characters.

God that sounds terrible, why do so many games try so hard only to make utterly bullshit stories? It makes me want to ignore games and go read a book.
I liked 999 and I am 130 IQ. I didn't care for the main plot, I just enjoy claustrophobic mystery games with light puzzling. Should I continue and play VLR?
>Should I continue and play VLR?
Yes
Same IQ. Yes.
Yes, Play VLR and ZTD. The puzzles in both are good. ZTD has a lot more meta philosophical puzzles.
never expected to see umd here out of all the colleges
just play AI the Somnium Files
Shit game, worse than ZTD
What is this game? Is it pure VN, or does it have gameplay segments such as nonary games escape room parts?
It's made by the same guy.
AI is a really weird puzzle game where you enter the mind of people and try to figure out their memories, but they are in a dream state. Which mean nothing makes fricking sense.

I highly recommend it. Humor is on point, and there a bunch of cute eye ball
I played the whole ZE trilogy after playing AI:TSF and every game in the ZE trilogy was between "shit" and "meh" while AI:TSF was good. Why did Ganker lie to me?
We can't account for you having awful taste
Yes, very good.
Yes. 999 is fricking incredible and VLR is good, even if it is a pain in the ass to play.
Emulate the DS version of 999. They butchered the twist on the nonary games version. If you get that, just use it for VLR. The twist in 999 requires 2 screens to pull off and they did not translate it well at all in the rerelease.
First is amazing, well paced and quick to beat. Worth it.
Second went 3D and looks and feels cheap. Is too long for its own good. Finale made it worth it though even if it's a bit ass-pully.
Third is where it turns into a B-movie I've heard, I stopped bothering
Play ZTD. Excellent story. Just weak ending to a series.
No you have to play ZTD, man, you don't understand. It's beyond just a B-movie. It's maybe the worst game I have ever played, but also maybe the most fun. It's so bad that nearly every 5 seconds you'll have something new to laugh your fricking balls off at. It is incredible.
but it's so ugly. the characters don't even look anything remotely like themselves anymore
What? Most characters totally look like themselves, except people who are not themselves.
that's VLR anon we're talking about ZTD
Yes. And I posted VLR as an example of a character that is supposed to not look the same.
Junpei and Akane are years older in the Mars experiment. Phi look exactly the same, Sigma look the same, and Diana is Mom tier.
that's half the fun, anon
you gotta play it it's so fricking funny
>playing a vn
Just find a YouTube with descent voice, who will read the whole thing for you while you do whatever you want. I recommend https://youtube.com/channel/UCIJlrEQoJE3eI168TWSl39g
It's not a VN, it's a Puzzle Adventure game. Why even comment if you dont know what the game play is?
All the puzzles are far beyond dumb. If you really solved them by yourself you deserve it.
>beyond dumb
Brah, you watched a Youtuber do it. How weak minded are you.
The only Master you do is Masterbation
Touché
The mindhack made him stupid
999 is great. VLR is okay. ZTD is just awful
the new ai: somnium files game has an unlockable remake of the third class ship room from 999 except instead of junpei it's a character from AI
Guys I feel like my mind is being tempered with
I'm afraid of getting into these threads until I play AI, I already got spoiled into this shit
God ZTD and the Somnium games are so shitty compared to 999 and VLR, what the frick happened. What the frick happened bros, who ghostwrote 999 and VLR for uchi?
ah yes, VLR, known for its excellent pacing
>pacing is also all fricked up
applies to literally every game uchikoshi has ever been involved with besides remember11
999 is good
VLR is good if you can have a fun time and not pretend like the biggest twist in the game would never work even though the game was written around it
Which twist are you referring to?
Probably the ending twist. Are you too old to remember?
And why do you think it would "never work"?
If he think about the big plot, the fact that it's a floaty excuse of a plot with not much gravity probably is the thing the anon meant. You would have to be on heavy drug and not a sick man to make it all make sense.
The fact that there's no reflective surfaces despite him interacting with multiple metal objects (scalpel, foil, numerous screens) and even the pool he uses to see his reflection he previously used in a puzzle. He never scratched his eyes, nobody ever commented on his fricked up eye, etc.
>nobody ever commented on his fricked up eye
I'm pretty sure someone does at some point.
I mean they did comment on his appareance. But just like the plot twist of ZTD, it works due to the camera and vague allusions
They commented on his age with minor allusions to it, but seeing your old face in a monitor is inevitable.
Future tech is matte screen.

Only people that flipped their DS for 999 can speak in this thread.
Also Luna best character.
Good enough?
Yes!
wait if akane was dead....then who was boat?
Akane death is explaned by the whole Schrödinger's cat allusions. She is both dead and alive, and is alive only because of the possibility of Junpei succeeding, and she knew he did because she's alive, but she knew she was dead if he didnt, so she had to make sure he did otherwise she would have been dead for 15 years.
Just finished marathonning both AI Somnium games and never played the ZE series before. Going to marathon them all this week. What am I in for?
A lot less Mindfrickery compared to Dream memories. A lot more Science and Philosophy terms.
More feelz.
jumpy can send messages to himself in another timeline
akane is a ghost
santa is zero
ace is a crazy pharmaceutical ceo
snake is alive in a coffin
Dude, why the frick would you spoil a 14 yo game.
Are you that lonely for (you)s?
i just like spreading despair
Nah, you just want attention. Trolling a game that people want to play is just annoying. I can just imagine you saying "hehe I got them!" alone in your basement. That's just sad.

Well, you're not wrong. And I wouldn't do it myself.
They are utter nonsense, but if you are capable of getting swept up in the story regardless, they're a good time.
