I thought Sekiro was their excuse to make money while developing a playstyle for Elden Ring >Matching Light/Heavy strikes to enemy attacks clashes and breaks posture
but no its just Dark Souls 5evr
So use the movement speed and run from enemy attacks, Sekiro style, employing proper spacing. Always exactly out of reach of enemy moves.
You really don't need to play ER like Dark Souls.
ER has a bunch of Sekiro attacks, Sekiro's stealth system with some improvements, Sekiro's ability to jump and do air attacks, its own iteration of Sekiro's posture, there's plenty of stuff from Sekiro there. And if you hate rolling so much just block, ER made blocking better than ever.
I like Sekiro combat because most defensive options also progress the fight by filling the posture bar.
Running away and evading doesn't progress the fight in Elden Ring. Neither does blocking and I don't like the static feeling of the follow up attack. But I like the addition of jumps and jump attacks. Elden Ring just feels way slower in a worse way to me. Coupled with the enemy design that gives every enemy endless combos and 360 degree tracking over long didtances, I actually feel like I can play more aggressively in Dark Souls 1 even though it offers way fewer combat mechanics than ER.

Not those anons but I'm inclined to agree. That last comment on particular really hits home. The game just keeps you on the ropes too much. Being put on the defensive isn't always bad, it can be intense, but it feels like you have to stop and wait far too often in ER.

I beat Guardian Ape on my second try and Genichiro Ashina on my third try but it literally took me two weeks to beat that first guy on the horse (like the second or third boss) and another two weeks for Lady Butterfly.

I wish Elden Ring had any semblance of Sekiro combat besides posture. I hate roll spam. It looks goofy and doesn't progress the fight in any way.
