The only pokemon game that I have ever finished is Moon, and that sounds pathetic enough, I'll be changing that. I am going to finish every single main game, from gen 1 all the way to gen 9, I won't move to the next one until I beat the elite four in each respectively. Anything I should know before starting this challenge?

Pokémon is a shit series and you're gonna have a bad time
Better question: which pokemon games are completely skippable by today's standards?
Realistically there's not much reason to play gen 1, 2, or RSE when remakes exist, other than historical value.
Could make an argument for FRLG and DPPt, but LGPE and BDSP are harder to reccomend.
>Gen 1
You only need to play RBY, FRLG is a boring middle of not as retro and not as modern
>Gen 2
You only need to play Crystal
>Gen 3
You only need to play Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire
>Gen 4
You only need to play Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl
>Gen 5
You only need to play Black or White, BW2 is optional but it doesn't add anything to Gen 5 as a whole
>Gen 6
Play X or Y
>Gen 7
You're good
>Gen 8
Play Sword or Shield
>Gen 9
Play Scarlet or Violet
>You only need to play Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire
>You only need to play Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl
Slightly less of a bait
Say it with your chest instead of being cryptic
Nat but they're not worth playing over Emerald and Platinum. BDSP is not worth playing at all.
Yes they are.
>Emerald
Boo hoo no frontier that you didn't finish. Muh timmy muh smapho. Now, end this stupid meme plz.
>Platinum
The Gen 4 engine alone makes BDSP better, not even going to name the QoL improvements. Sorry there's no special wallpaper in the eterna building and the late game hallway tho. It's literally a better game.
have fun wasting your time
Good for you. Though Pokémon only gets fun after you've seen the credits, the main campaigns are just slogs.
I would play
Red/Blue
Crystal
Emerald
Leaf Green / Fire Red
Platinum
Heart Gold / Soul Silver
Black/White
Black 2 / White 2
X/Y
Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire
Sun/Moon
Sword/Shield
Legends: Arceus
Scarlet/Violet
Other versions are either redundant or don't have much historical value.
FRLG
HGSS
Emerald
Platinum
BW
B2W2
XY
USUM
SwSh
SV
You can play PLA either at the beginning or at the end for an extra bonus. I'd reccomend playing it after SV because it feels like it was released after SV.
Do not play gen 9.
Switch to romhacks starting gen 6 to 8.
Don't play them
You've already failed because in some game, beating the E4 does not equal the end of the game.
Gen 2 games go until Red, end of.
>gen 1
Never played it
>gen 2
Finished the Johto portion, didn't go to Kanto
>gen 3
Never played it
>gen 4
Played Platinum halfway, thought it was shit and dropped it
>gen 5
Played Black until the N/legendary fight, didn't bother challenging the E4 again. Dropped Black 2 halfway due to boredom
>gen 6
Finished it
>gen 7
Dropped after the electric gym
>gen 8
Finished it but in the span of a year, I had forgotten I was playing it
>gen 9
Finished it
The last current gen (at the time) games I EVER played were X and Y. Am I missing on something (aside from the Rayquaza vs Deoxys episode from ORAS that looked cool as frick.) I mean, almost ten years have passed since.
Just play ORAS and you're golden. If you want to get into competitive and stop being bored, play SV
>am I missing on something
About 3 significantly better games that released later.
