The original maps for Scarlet and Violet actually had detailed models and it looked beautiful however gamefreak had to dumb everything down because the Switch couldn't handle it.

You could give GameFreak the highest end gaming PC money could buy and they'd still find a way to make a game chug on it. They are, flat out, incompetent and lazy. They are bad, but also have no urge to improve. Until I see them put forth even a hundredth of the effort of other developers they won't get the benefit of the doubt to me.

I already said it on Ganker, the problem is short development cycles and crunch times which make the Gantt chart be wrapped up with quick hotfixes in order to have something to save face when the product gets released.
Happens with all rushed projects in software and hardware projects.

The whole reason pokemon is so popular compared to mechanically and graphically better games is the fact they churn a game out every year or so. If the game didn't have such a fast turn over they would have died years ago.
It's the same sales tactic as Fifa or Cod.

Overall you're practically constantly on a disadvantage when comparing to players of other systems, not to mention that at this performance it also drains the fun.

The prototype was also running on a PC 50x stronger than Switch, so they could just bruteforce everything. When the time came to actually put it on Switch, it turned out having the entire map always loaded in wasn't good for performance and constant memory leaks didn't help, so they decided to par everything down instead of fixing the underlying issue.
It's the same incompetent hacks who in Sun and Moon couldn't figure out how to switch between animation loops, so in every scene they were loading in multiples of the same character and swapping between them
the memory leaks still happen so you have to constantly restart your game when the frames drop to unbearable levels
Maybe if it didn't load the entire fricking map at all times, it wouldn't run like shit and could have used the better graphics. But no.

Even if you packed the areas with trees and rocks, the actual designs of the place is lack luster. Other than area zero and the swampy area with the painted trees. There's nowhere actually memorable in the game. The traversal system also disensentivises you from actually exploring, if you find a cave then it's nothing more than a tiny icecream scoop out of the side of a mountain. The only ones worth exploring are in the dlc. And even then, they're just a straight line.
