The original maps for Scarlet and Violet actually had detailed models and it looked beautiful however gamefreak had to dumb everything down because the Switch couldn't handle it.
You complain about the fps now but before the labotomy it was much worse.
You really need to redirect your anger at nintendo for realeasing substandard hardware and not gamefreak.
Please get your facts right before you attack my favorite gen chuds.

          >We noted many instances where loading times went beyond 30 seconds when loading new areas, but the pain is really felt here in the frame drops. Most villages will slump to a choppy sub-20 FPS mess that, though not massively affecting the gameplay here, drastically reduces the charm of these areas. Oddly enough, performance improves a bit more when you’re in battle with dozens of foes, but even combat portions are not immune to frequent frame drops that can impede the gameplay. Fate/Samurai is far from unplayable on Switch, but overall performance feels subpar — bad enough that we’d suggest you investigate other platforms if that’s an option for you.

            >First time here and also playing the game since 3 weeks on an OLED Switch. Game itself has appeal, i like the gameplay and mechanics, not bad for an so called f2p game. Tons of content to play through, lots of time you can spend into the game, but:

            >Openworld maps, Railjack and some of the other maps are very unenjoyable and it gets even worse in multiplayer. There is no fun in playing a fastpaced game at around 20 to 25 fps, along with additional stuttering and occosional framedrops at the 15 fps mark in multiplayer. Doing relic runs in multiplayer at 20 - 25 fps isnt fun. You can completely forget about gunning except when you like to miss 90% of the shots. Also the loading times are a joke. While others are already playing, the Switch player still has lots of fun with the loading screen. Even more annoying when host leaves, because yet another long loading screen will await you. Overall you're practically constantly on a disadvantage when comparing to players of other systems, not to mention that at this performance it also drains the fun.
Damn.. maybe it is the Switch...

            >The Nintendo Switch’s lousy performance is as enduring as the console itself. Grainy, stuttery graphics are synonymous with playing games on the 2017 system, which hasn’t gotten a spec upgrade to boost how games look and run. And in the five-plus years since the Switch was released, remarking on disappointing visuals has been a fixture in our reviews of the console’s best games.
            Oh...

            >Usually I don't care what frame rate a game plays at as long as it's stable enough, even with frame pacing issues (Hi Bloodborne). But some Switch games dipping well into 15fps just by changing your camera is really disappointing. Monster Hunter Rise performing decently seems like an exception here, while Stories 2 craps itself just changing the camera. Age of Calamity is straight up unplayable. Some of these are first party games and can't handle their frames, even dipping below 10fps...

            >I really love my Switch, but the performance alone is making me want to jump on PC instead.
Wow... At least other games play well!!!

You could give GameFreak the highest end gaming PC money could buy and they'd still find a way to make a game chug on it. They are, flat out, incompetent and lazy. They are bad, but also have no urge to improve. Until I see them put forth even a hundredth of the effort of other developers they won't get the benefit of the doubt to me.

I already said it on Ganker, the problem is short development cycles and crunch times which make the Gantt chart be wrapped up with quick hotfixes in order to have something to save face when the product gets released.
Happens with all rushed projects in software and hardware projects.

      > the problem is short development cycles and crunch times
Absolutely not. If you want a good looking pokemon game, you will have to go to a different company.
The whole reason pokemon is so popular compared to mechanically and graphically better games is the fact they churn a game out every year or so. If the game didn't have such a fast turn over they would have died years ago.
It's the same sales tactic as Fifa or Cod.

You mean the prototype had better models.
And since the switch can handle the thing just fine, if they had to scale it down was because they couldn’t make it the game look good in time

      Anonymous

The prototype was also running on a PC 50x stronger than Switch, so they could just bruteforce everything. When the time came to actually put it on Switch, it turned out having the entire map always loaded in wasn't good for performance and constant memory leaks didn't help, so they decided to par everything down instead of fixing the underlying issue.
It's the same incompetent hacks who in Sun and Moon couldn't figure out how to switch between animation loops, so in every scene they were loading in multiples of the same character and swapping between them

        Anonymous

the memory leaks still happen so you have to constantly restart your game when the frames drop to unbearable levels

    I doubt it.
Even if you packed the areas with trees and rocks, the actual designs of the place is lack luster. Other than area zero and the swampy area with the painted trees. There's nowhere actually memorable in the game. The traversal system also disensentivises you from actually exploring, if you find a cave then it's nothing more than a tiny icecream scoop out of the side of a mountain. The only ones worth exploring are in the dlc. And even then, they're just a straight line.

BoTW/ToTK both run at higher resolution with much more detailed models/textures with somewhat better FPS than SV.
