This is only true because it is fully backwards compatible with the original playstation. Both libraries combined definitely put it over the top.
while that is true, I've never had a PSX game not work perfectly in a PS2 nor have i heard of it happening. i know technically there are incompatible games but it's like 10 oddballs out of rest of the library of literally thousands of games that work perfectly. it pretty much made the original playstation obsolete immediately

The NES sucks. There's less than 100 good nes games. SNES, Genesis, PS1, and PS2 all blow it out of the water. Dreamcast probably has more good games than NES. And half of the good games on NES are sequels or clones of mega Man, castlevania, and mario. Which are great obviously, but the console lacks variety of *good* games.
The console sapped the goodwill of developers to put up with Sony's shit with how much more convoluted it was over the PSX and that came home to roost with the release of the PS3 and how much more obtuse the architecture of the CPU was with the internal hardware subsystem also being convoluted as well and needing to use the SPEs to get the best out of the hardware.
The intention behind that was:
- Sony didnt want those consoles to have an easily created emulator for pc back in each consoles' heydays
- Sony probably didnt want the console to be poluted with garbage games, so by making it difficult, devs would release their best games only but the consoles ended up having garbage games anyway.
You know which console has tons of garbage games right now? The Switch.
I think history has proved out that it's better to have a ton of shovelware vs no games. It's much harder to fix lack of games vs raising the quality of the games you have via certification, price of specific devkits, and locking hardware access without the other two conditions I mentioned. You're also never going to stop emulators or PC ports coming as evidenced from what actually has happened in video game history. It was misguided from Ken to do it and cost him his position and prestige at Sony.

The NES sucks. There's less than 100 good nes games. SNES, Genesis, PS1, and PS2 all blow it out of the water. Dreamcast probably has more good games than NES. And half of the good games on NES are sequels or clones of mega Man, castlevania, and mario. Which are great obviously, but the console lacks variety of *good* games.

The console sapped the goodwill of developers to put up with Sony's shit with how much more convoluted it was over the PSX and that came home to roost with the release of the PS3 and how much more obtuse the architecture of the CPU was with the internal hardware subsystem also being convoluted as well and needing to use the SPEs to get the best out of the hardware.
The intention behind that was:
- Sony didnt want those consoles to have an easily created emulator for pc back in each consoles' heydays
- Sony probably didnt want the console to be poluted with garbage games, so by making it difficult, devs would release their best games only but the consoles ended up having garbage games anyway.
You know which console has tons of garbage games right now? The Switch.
I think history has proved out that it's better to have a ton of shovelware vs no games. It's much harder to fix lack of games vs raising the quality of the games you have via certification, price of specific devkits, and locking hardware access without the other two conditions I mentioned. You're also never going to stop emulators or PC ports coming as evidenced from what actually has happened in video game history. It was misguided from Ken to do it and cost him his position and prestige at Sony.

Garbage killed Atari but now they get away with it because people's standards are non existent.

It sucks it was only Atari because the PS2 and Wii should have and would've died with what they had if another video game crash had happened during the recessions of 2001 and 2007. It sucks that people have no standards and will accept garbage for everything from music to cars.

A crash wont happen now because the floods have been opened to the general public, people that normally do not play videogames, and they have shitty tastes with no standards. The atari didn't have any good games. Atari fricking sucks. Super Mario 3 by itself is better than the entire atari library combined.
