But don’t you get it anon?
I can use my physical collection of classic games as a bartering tool once society collapses
Can you say the same about your silly data drive?!
zappas has negative value, joes garage sucks and isn't funny or entertaining now go pretend a "catholic" girl with a mustache is giving you head homosexual poser
Weird Al is great but come on man. Their music has practically nothing in common. If you really wanted to get under my skin you'd call Zappa "They Might Be Giants for grandpas"
weird al's music has 0 real value
He's honestly one of the best musicians I've ever seen live.
>picks the second most well known Zappa song that isn't an instrumental
If you're gonna make fun of how stupid Zappa's songs can be you could at least go after Penis Dimension
What's so fun about owning things? It's the access that you enjoy. Like let's say you own a house but you cannot access it. Or game discs that you have no player for.
They actually think that evil publishers can remove games from their libraries or ban them for no reason other than random whim and their physical medium somehow means they "own" these games.
And sell, and lend. Which digital users can't do. Playing is only one aspect of ownership, hence the exists of collectors, traders, sellers, etc. Welcome to second grade
Ok how much are you gonna pay me for 20 used PS2 games? People like you always cry about muh israelites but what's really happening is you're just envious and emulate their ways. Your networth will never be anything notable. Nobody is going to care. Just get through life and that's it.
Oh, those disks aren't worth anything? Guess I can buy them for close to nothing. How much to buy old games digitally on console? Oh, they're still full price? Better buy them now, the shop is going down forever next month.
What's the benefit of digital again?

>Oh, those disks aren't worth anything?
Not to anyone with a brain.

The benefit is that it is far more convenient. I have multiple shelves full of old game cases and if I for some reason wanted to play one I would have to go and grab one of my 5 old consoles, put cables on it and blablabla, only to have some 30 fps 480p game that I could have downloaded in a minute.
>people like to own plastic disks that are completely different from metal drives even though they have the exact same bytes on them
can't believe Zappa said that, what a freak
Hey, I just beat this brand new AAA game. Want to borrow it and beat it for free before I sell it and get most of my money back?
>durrrrr no I don't even have a disk drive. I can't borrow, lend it still my games. Physical copies aren't better because, they just aren't okay? After you sell your copy for $50, I'll have to spend $60 because I have to pay whatever they ask. If it's a bad game, I'm stuck with it forever. This is a good way to "own" games
>games "went to shit" >they were good when they were only physical >they're bad now that they're all digital >they're bad because of the way they used to be when they were good
Literal drooling imbecile, kicked in the head by a horse
Sorry dudes, I can't play tonight the newest exciting multiplayer game tonight. I told my friend he could play my copy of tomb raider and so I'm locked out of all my other games. I could have handed him a disk but this is better for some reason
>multiplayer
Couldn't be me, I don't engage with MP subhumans in any form.
And with that said, pretty sure I can set myself to offline and still run shit from my end. Though I admit I never had to try because unlike you vidya isn't my life so I take breaks.
>download game and all patches for it >store on my physical drive that I can hold in my hand >own a more complete version of the game than plastic tendies ever can hope for
I regret not just trading in games immediately after beating them in the 360 and ps3 gen as I have like 200 physical games from that gen that are worth nothing now.
See you have this little man syndrome where you feel bad about not being the boss of this gym. You have access. You can use it. Isn't that what you wanted??
I want to also lend it and sell it if I desire, because I'm not moronic. The same reason I don't rent a car or house. Why throw your money into a hole you can never retrieve it from? Walking to a shelf I pass 30 times a day isn't a problem for me, I'm not morbidly obese
Seems to me that you're more interested in making money than the thing itself.

Did you spend a million dollars to live in a shed? No? Oh you can care about both. Interesting.
Pay $20,000 for a sealed graded copy if you only care about value, pay for a digital license if you only care about access, buy a copy if you care about both. Welcome to economics for dummies
I don't care that much about disposable media like video games. I just play game once and move on. Ideally they would just let me rent games digitally for a week or something for 20 bucks so I can just beat the game and never play it again.
Unless the experience can be ripped from my consciousness by corporations, then it can't be taken from me.
There is no difference to me between a game on a hard drive and a game on a physical disk if both games can provide a fun experience I cherish.
Physical ownership is important for most things, but not everything.
You could play it in an emulator or on an original console using a flash cart or on a DSi using nds-bootstrap. It'll be easier to access the save files too.
reminder >you can never truly own a game on steam because it's based on an online connection >you can never truly own a game if you have a physical disc because it will naturally degrade over time and become unusable >you can never truly own a game if you save it on your HDD or SSD because they're drives are prone to dying randomly >you can never truly own a game for which you've memorized the ENTIRE CODE for in your head, because you can get alzheimers

and he is right, bunch of companies dont properly store their shit and we end up with fricked up versions with the new remasters/rereleases.

no one would buy your HD full of copies of games for thousands of dollars

Wow, thanks for proving that you know absolutely nothing about the law or game licensing.
The big difference is retail discs can't be cloned due to utilizing unobtainable virgin media and requiring special-purpose facilities and hardware (a master+disc press). Moreover, any attempt at replication at home will be imperfect because there are bits that consumer hardware cannot replicate.
I don't. I mean I did, at one point, but it started to get cluttered. I ended up donating a lot of shit I owned just to maintain a clean living space. Never been tempted to go back.
Sad to see my father live in filth and hoard junk to the point of barely being able to walk through his house.

I prefer the works of guys like Thom Bell and Alec Costandinos when it comes to what I consider decent/good melody/rhythm around that time. Then again, I'm not really into a lot of prog rock
The thing is that since the PS4 gen theres been way less games worth buying at all. Up to the PS3/360/Wii gen I bought loads of games every year and still have 100s of them here in boxes. But from PS4 gen on it seemed like way less games were coming out. I have over 100 PS3 games and like 60 Xbox 360 games. But I only have about 30 PS4 games despite getting the console day 1. In last 4 or 5 years I only got between 2 to 4 games a year. So I'm no longer concerned about having physical games as there are so few games I give a shit about in general. Next year theres only 2 games I care about. FF7 Rebirth and Dragons Dogma 2.
Zappa did what he wanted to and never gave a shit what anyone thought. At least that's more or less what he thought, imo it's best to view him as a ironic tragic figure. He always said he wasn't about putting emotion in his music but when it's there it was pretty powerful. It's better to just take away the better stuff he did and ignore some of the cringe.
Coomlectors actually think their DRM cucked disc is more valuable than a DRM free version of the same information on a hard drive.
yes
something i can hold is mroe valuable than something i can't hold
you get it right?
Burn the information to a disc or hold your hard drive then.
it don't work like that boss
60mb on the disc and it can tell you burnt the disc
go home and pirate everything
I feel like I'm conversing with actual morons when trying to communicate with paypigs.
still not the same
consolets think their virginity is less valuable then their copy of dance dance revolution 2 lmao
>material goods are more valuable than love
Yes
Things are only worth what you can get when you sell it. How much can you sell yours for?
Anyone who spends money on a copy of game they can download for free in seconds deserves to waste their money.
poorgay cope

I own a house. I invite my friends over. Lend it out. I rent it out on airbnb. I sell the house.
You rent an apartment. Your landlord says you can't have friends over. Your rent is also more than my mortgage.
See it's about the ability to use things just like I said.
And sell, and lend. Which digital users can't do. Playing is only one aspect of ownership, hence the exists of collectors, traders, sellers, etc. Welcome to second grade
You can "lend" someone the same data only better because it isn't DRM cucked.
Why would I lend someone a game when I can make them a copy? Dumb fricking moron.
Are people discussing digital vs physical and you're on here yelling at both about the virtues of piracy?
Digital vs physical is a false dichotomy. There's only DRM cucked and DRM free versions of games.
what a perfect post, and so succinct
Lending someone a game is piracy too, moron.
>Lending someone a game is piracy too
>he doesn't know about the first sale doctrine

But can YOU take an hour on the tower of power, as long as you get a little golden shower?
Yeah I want to own things like a house and a car but I don't give a shit about owning things like video games or movies.
NOOO PLEASE DON'T CRITICISE MY HECKING GABENS MONOPOLY
IT'S OKAY THAT HE TAKES A 30% CUT
IT'S OKAY THAT I DON'T OWN ANYTHING
IT'S OKAY THAT THEY TRY AND CHARGE FOR MODS
IT'S OKAY THAT THEY HAVE LOOT BOXES, MICRO TRANSACTIONS, BATTLE PASSES AND KEYS IN ALL OF THEIR GAMES
All food you buy gets taxed. Or do you grow your own potatoes?
THAT'S RIGHT BRO DEFEND THE BILLIONAIRE LEECH
WHO'S A GOOD BOOTLICKER? YOU ARE! YES YOU ARE!
They never brought up the mod thing again after the first fiasco.
And that was equally a publisher issue.

This is why gaming went to shit.
Pretty sure it went to sit because of microtransactions, dlc, cosmetics, battlepasses, keys.
You know, all that stuff that's not on the disk. All the digital download only stuff that made game design be about profitability over quality.
Nah it went to shit because of dumb frick cattle who never replay games and just want some shitty shallow movie game.

There is no such thing as "only physical". People have been dumping games since the 80s.

>I must own all the funko pops and collector's editions
Technically you do own something.
You own a subscription to GamePass.
🙂
And access to hundreds of new games. But if you don't have game pass you can play ONE game every 6 months. huh
>buys train ticket
>Hell yeah baby, I'm a railroad tycoon. I own access to this train.
See you have this little man syndrome where you feel bad about not being the boss of this gym. You have access. You can use it. Isn't that what you wanted??

Physical ownership is important for most things, but not everything.
I sold a copy of pokemon for the ds for $110 last month?
Please explain how owning that digitally would be better
You could play it in an emulator or on an original console using a flash cart or on a DSi using nds-bootstrap. It'll be easier to access the save files too.
>buy on steam for convenience and to support devs
>steam shuts down (in 2 more weeks)
>just pirate the game and transfer saves
Simple as that.
frank was the man
I own all of these licenses
Imagine the giga solar flare
Oh cool, mind selling me one of them?
yeah, but only if your european. americans dont have that freedom.
Pros of physical copies: buy, sell, trade, buy used, lend, collect, preserve, display, burn for fun, gift, too many to list
Pros of digital copies: picrel
Can't help be look at Frank Zappa with disdain when I see how much porn has ruined so much.
Why does gaben make poor people seethe so much?
who wins again?
id say lets vs eachother in any multiplayer game but youll just come up with some cope about how you "dont want those games you cant pirate, totally"

explain to me how my games installed in my HD/SSDs are less physical than your games installed in your CD/DVD/B-Rays
OK, they simply are.
The disk ones have the licenses bundled with them. Otherwise I'd be selling copies of my steam installation drive for thousands every day.
you do know people buy cheap pirated copies of games installed in DVDs right?

Wow, thanks for proving that you know absolutely nothing about the law or game licensing.
The big difference is retail discs can't be cloned due to utilizing unobtainable virgin media and requiring special-purpose facilities and hardware (a master+disc press). Moreover, any attempt at replication at home will be imperfect because there are bits that consumer hardware cannot replicate.
