Song of the dragonborn reuses part of the melody from the morrowind theme, but it uses the first part, ends it differently, then reuses it and develops in to the morrowind theme melody on the second or third time round when the chorus is doing it along with the trumpets.

homie that's ambience music, it's the meme song too, honestly it's not bad but I don't know why you are getting so high and mighty about it.

Siofra River's ambience also fits greatly, it really has that dystinctive feeling like youa re in the depths of a world and you've found a whole new one, it's not made to be funky, but it fits, a song that fits and is also great to listen too would have to be Leyndell's theme. I'd listen to this one a hundred times more than what you just posted, then again I'm biased because O haven't played Skyrim but I got reasons to believe you are not being that fair to ER either.

Hello, I actually have good taste when it comes to soundtracks. The best soundtrack was dark souls 1. Never played dark souls 2 though. Dark souls 3 quickly becomes derivative and attempts to be far more grand and epic then it really is resulting in a silly juxtaposition with what you're actually doing and what it sounds like you're doing. Plus because they do it for every boss, it quickly loses its uniqueness.

i liked the main theme (and how it comes back during the radagon fight) but that's about it

i know i'll get shit for this but i've always thought this series had pretty weak music. i like that they use the music sparingly by saving it just for bosses and hubs, that automatically makes a lot of the tunes memorable, but i think outside of that, very few of them are that great.

like from dark souls one, gwyn's theme might be the only song i actually like. sif and o&s's themes are extremely memorable to me but i'd never really want to listen to them outside of playing the game

      Anonymous

I don't think listenability outside the context of the game should be a factor in how good an OST is.

        Anonymous

Why not. If you only listened to it once when you played the game is it really that good compared to something you liked enough to listen to even outside the game?

There's no problem listening to a game's soundtrack outside the context of the game, but at that point it's just an album. The only time it's quality as a soundtrack should be judged, is while it's being played over the game.

i don't disagree, but that aside i think many of dark souls 1's boss themes really stand out when you listen to them one after the other. the three i listed do, but can you really remember the themes of ceaseless discharge or iron golem? or even story important bosses like the 4 kings or bed of chaos? or anything from the DLC

I don't actually think the OST in Soul's games is anything to write home about bar a few songs, I just don't feel like separating them from their context says anything about their quality.

This sucks holy shit its what I said here:

              *violin playing*

              *drumming* TATA TATATA TA ATATATATATTAT

              Lyrics:
AAAA OOOO AAA OOO UUUU AAAA OOO AAA OOOO UUU AAAAA OOO AAAAA OOO AAAAAH

Thats every Slopsoft song. Except Gwyn's.
              Its generic and cringe.

and what other anons say lol:

uhhhh DLC bros...? It's fricking over isn't it
Without the oooooooooooooooh and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh noises it's going to be unplayable

To this day Midir's theme is burned into my brain
              DOO DOO DO DA DO
              DOO DOO DO DA DO
DOO DOO DO DA DEE DOO DE DOO

DaS3 and ER music is just a choir going AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA over a forgettable melody anyway. It's so boring.
Bloodborne had good music because it had actual relevant lyrics and way better composition, DeS and DaS1 had no choir so they had great melody instead, and DaS2 still had a few pretty decent songs.

What kind of moronic dumbfrick argument is that? All music is simoly made to be listened at, no matter the media it is in. You think Titanic OST is less iconic because the movie isn't playing if you put it on youtube?

I know you people want to spin this into some sort of negative story, but th fact of the matter is that for composers freelancing is literally the endgame. Uematsu is a freelancer, the dude from Chrono Trigger is a free lancer. Leaving the game company your worked for and turning to free lancing means you've made it.
I personally don't like Kitamuras music but this news just means she's more in demand than ever before. Also, I assure you that she'll still work with from soft on their game music unless they find someone better.

In what universe does Godfrey's theme sound the same as Mohg's? What about more atmospheric soundtracks like Leyndell's?

I admit Morgott's theme is shit and speiclaly more dissapoiting because it's not like all the other forgettable BGMs that take place in random copypaste cave minibosses.

lyrics dont even have lore with them.

Sure it's nice but making the violins and drums and singing sound good takes enough effort and is good enough for me to become attached to it, most times, lyrics in vidya music are cringe or fit very loosely on the subject matter and I think it just ain't worth the effort when it comes to fricking latin chanting, at least with music in english I can give it to you since having gibberish there would be moronic but even the MGR soundtrack has lyrics that are just... shit happening bro?

Sam is motivated so the lyrics have a mountain? Monsoon is about le social darwinism so... pain? Rain? UI mean he's named monsoon...

I don't care enough, keep lyricism to poetry and standalone music and I won't miss much.

And it's amazing how much I don't give a shit about them, I've enjoyed FFXVI's OST for a while now because I know the music is good even if the game sucks and the story is worse, any time a yt vid had lkyrics I just to look away because I either don't care or it's actively cringe, I like the soundtracks because it SOUNDS good and fits well, that's that.

Elden Ring I can only remember the main theme (and it's variations) and the droning caelid theme that's the same 30 second song on loop forever.

vast amount of soundtracks out there dont' have lyrics, if it has lyrics, be they in german or enlighs or latin, I guess it's fine, I guess I like that in this one song there's someone singing something that has a meaning, even if transalted it's just shit happening I can see some worth in it, but just because a piec eof music doesn't have that I don't think it makes it shit? If you get a piece of music with lyrics that mean something and then you wask a genie to undo that and make it so it's gibberish or just "ooh aah" I would mind, that's shitty, a dick move, but if a song from the start doesn't have lyrics... who cares?

I played Risk of Rain 2, no lyricism there, but some of the themes are banger bro, you've enjoyed instrumental too you know?

So if the abyss watchers has no lyrics then what's wrong with that? Is your argument that there's nothing wrong with that but there's something wrong to making your songs sound like they have lyrics even if they don't

ER songs having lyrics or not is already really vague when you listen to it, whereas in Bloodborne it's pretty clear that the words have a measning, a beggining and end, when you hear closely.

With ER they just wanted the vibe of a choiri singing something, but the fact that it's not ACTUALLY doing that annoys you? Makes you feel something's off or wrong? And that in itself is reason enough to bash it?

Because I don't care, maybe that's the difference

tbh yeah I think about it as Monster Hunter language, ever seen an old MH cutscene from before MHWorld? It has the vibe of people talking but they're just saying vague shit, it's a mde up language that has no rules, it's not elvish or anything like that, it's just a bunch of made up sounds that loosely reseble french and japanese at the same time for some reason and that's all you needed, you see people talking on the cutscenes and you think "oh they talking" and that's all you needed to know, in fact, actually kinda sovlful sometimes

Yes. It cheapens the experience for me. Makes it feel like they're trying too hard to make you go "Woah, this is epic. Isn't it epic, aren't you excited?!"

Well I can see why you might think that but I'm with this guy

I just couldn't find the words to explain it because I dunno shit about MH.

You want to give the vibe of something without actually writing a tangible meaning on it and I don't think that's bad, why is it? Is there a logical reason for it being bad? maybe you just wanted to add texture to the words but not write the lyrics so you fricking make shit up instead of having it all be "ooh aaah" and you just let the "ooh aah" be in slower more somber songs and that's it. What is so bad about that?
Lyrics to me are like the cherry on top but it seems like to you the fact that they just made shit up is an actual tangible flaw that makes you like it much less, instead of how I feel neutral about it.

Tell me one song with latin chants that has a deep meaning?

I mean, I guess I don't dislike that if you translate the Attack On Titan soundtrack from german sometimes it means something but... I don't much care, I listen to the instrumental ones as much as the ones with lyrics or maybe more anyway

                ?t=158

And with latin chants on a fantasy vidya I give like, even less of a shit, maybe less than half of a shit

                Anonymous

It's better when the lyrics actually have a meaning I guess, like with Bloodborne, and the AI generated choir lyrics thing didn't pop out until ER because in DS3 they weren't ashamed to have the choirs just chant instead of singing a song, but at the end of the day? I don't give a shit, I just care that it sounds good you are just making shit up to be like "seeee? It's shit because the ancient latin sounding lyrics actually don't have a tranlateable meaning for vaati to uncaover!". Who gives a shit? What matters is the instruments and singing to sound good because I ain't listening to the lyrics when I'm playing the game or when I'm listening to it on yt.

The music is pretty good it just isn't that memorable compared with a classic OST like Symphony of the Night or Deus Ex, which relied heavily on memorable synthetic melodies and motifs, rather than sweaping orchestral arrangements.

Shadow of the Colossus is closer in intention to Elden Ring, and it's more memorable. I think people are asking for something like that. But people saying it's bad are just dishonest.

            its unironically pure famboyism
if Fromsoft dared to make a creative song where they mix more generes around it or even an enviromental alieny sounding track you know Fromdrones would be overhyping that shit like
            >omg look how revolutionary this song is it fits so well they are SO CREATIVE they did something NOBODY expected
            >millions of games have done it before tho
            >BRO BUT FROMSOFT DID IT THE BEST

            Its fanboyism, bullshit its not
almost nobody goes through their day thinking damn I wanna listen to some Elden Ring music and sits down to do it. Fromsoft never been good at making music they dont care they only care about delivering their gameplay formula that worked for them once so they gotta squeeze all the bank they can with it.

Or fricking... Metal Gear Revengeance sounding ass?

To me Bloodborne's music and ER's sound really distinctive IDK what's this gaslight that everything's the same, though ER's music and DS3 is interchangeable.

Sekiro is also completely different IDK what to tell you if you really think all From does is the same shit.

Metal Gear Revengance is a good example yes thats a good ost unilke Fromsoft.

A lot of things fit a fantasy game, dont be moronic, final fantasy has done it way before. Symphonic Metal fits a fantasy game, a lot of shit can be done you are just a FromDRONE homosexual fanboy. But dont worry they will never get creative with the music I already know.

FFXVI has a great soundtrack but it's music doesn't fit Fromsoft's worlds at all.

Discussing music here is a waste of time, what do you even say to people to talk to them about it? If someone says "yeah everything these guys make is shit" and makes up bullshit reasons why such as "uhm yeah it all sounds the same and epic orchestras are bad because they ar eok?" there's no real way to engage with them?

I can post the shitties Frtomsoft song and juxtapose it to my favorite and all the homies in her will say is "hehe it sounds the same lol slop"

I listen to the Ancestral Spirit tracj from ER. The main theme has motifs from Demon's Souls King Allant theme.
Every Fromsoft game has good music and I could identify it if you played it on shuffle with generic orchestral music.
Tsukasa Saitoh is a great producer and so is Kitamura and the rest.
              Gehrman's theme is iconic.

Yes and no. If that were true they would have made Elden Ring 2™ immediately after ER, instead of making a much less marketable Armoured Core game.

It's Bamco that wants Fromsoft to milk the Souls formula, which is why they pushed for 2 (and it was a resulting pile of shit) and why 3 was made (and I like 3, but it's very obvious from the narrative that Fromsoft did NOT want to make another title in the same setting).
Bloodborne was an adventurous decision that made many changes from the underlying formula.
Ultimately, 4 Souls games wouldn't have been made it there wasn't a huge market for it.

The music has been shit after Dark Souls 1. For how much I love Bloodborne, I can't remember most of the songs. Elden Ring has all of maybe 5 somewhat memorable songs in a 60 hour game. I think my favorite was the festival choir in Redmane Castle, it made you feel something.
Give us a playful piano, brass out the ass, more plucked strings, something with lots of drums, fricking anything. More variety.
Armored Core 6 did have a lot of fun stuff at least.
