sonic still manages to have good games, people pretending the whole series deserves to be erased because they release a complete stinker every now and then are morons
over 50% of mania is just 1:1 copy/pasted from old games. its nothing more than a glorified romhack. on top of that, the "new" stages arent even that good.
generations similarly steals from older games, but they do make some alterations, and it plays according to the modern boostshit gameplay. however, it also has the unforgivable aspect of forcing 2d segments into the 3d stages for no fricking reason. i'll admit that i enjoyed it, and that most importantly it wasnt a janky, buggy mess like most sonic games, but for BOTH cases, riding coat tails is not something that should be celebrated.
> over 50% of mania is just 1:1 copy/pasted from old games.
Factually wrong. Only the first act of returning stages are 1:1 recreations. 13 zones, 2 stages per zone with 8 returning stages with only the first act being recreations puts the recreations at about 30%.
Mania is garbage frick off. Sega can do so much better. Look at the other games they make. They do not care about Sonic and you should not be excusing the crap that they put out for a beloved series.
I'm nta. I agree with them that Mania is overrated so much because Sonic fans standards are so low that they think it is actually a good game, when it is actually just not complete garbage.

Sonic Mania is a good game, enlighten me on how it's not

It isn't so much that it's a bad game, it is that is overrated. Sonic fans shouldn't be soijacking over such a medicore game like Sonic Mania. It's just the bare minimum of a Sonic game. Sega have the resources and talent to make an incredible Sonic game but they do not and it irritates the frick out of me. Actually, they are running out of talent because all of the level designers and artists keep leaving Sonic Team to join Nintendo. because Sonic Teams creative dirctors are moronS.

These are some low quality takes. If it's too short just play through the game as different characters and collect the emeralds. Sonic mania does have a plot, there's a whole battle between the hardboiled heavies vs eggman. If you're going out of your way to say S3K and SA3 have plot then you can't say mania doesn't.
Mania is kino indeed. I went over to my nephew's and played it with him and geeked out hard when one of the bosses made you play Dr robotniks mean bean machine
SA2 created hundreds of thousands of tasteless homosexuals that will gobble up awful voice acting, horrible level design, half assed mechanics, buggy shitheaps that will scream "SOUL" and start foaming up with anger when anyone dares say the game is just not good.
>GH act 1 : one checkpoint >GH act 2 : one checkpoint >GH act 3 : four checkpoints (one before the boss)
>Marble act 1 : one checkpoint >Marble act 2 : one checkpoint >Marble act 3 : two checkpoints (one before the boss)
>SY act 1 : two checkpoints (in different paths) >SY act 2 : one checkpoint >SY act 3 : two checkpoints (one before the boss)
>Labyrinth act 1 : one checkpoint >Labyrinth act 2 : one checkpoint >Labyrinth act 3 : two checkpoints (one before the boss)
>SL act 1 : zero >SL act 2 : zero >SL act 3 : one checkpoint (before the boss)
>SB act 1 : two checkpoints (in different paths) >SB act 2 : zero >SB act 3 : two checkpoints
Sonic 1 is among the hardest games of the series. Only Green Hill act 3 has more than two checkpoints, and some acts don't have any. If you're playing the original version, the only way to get continues is by collecting 50 rings in a special stages, which are already a challenge to access. Nevermind that you only have 10 opportunities to get the 6 Emeralds.
well I didn't of course. Unleashed is an abomination, Shadow was neat but bad, Colors is fine, Riders is pretty good I guess. the GBA games are fine. but I could leave it all, I haven't cared since I got wiener teased by Sonic Heroes and day dreamed about a sequel ever since.
with customizable teams, entire teams of speed characters lock into one route in a level but really fast, unique special attacks based on who your team is comprised of, ect
I want something good again. Sonic Adventure 3? I'd come back around.
Most fans I think would like a return to the episodic world building a Sonic Adventure 3 would bring - I'm unsure why Sonic Team or Sega of America hasn't done so, and ignored millions of outcries for a sequel for well over a decade and approaching 2 soon. I could see that Sonic 06 was supposed to be the sequel, but they messed it up.
I think Unleashed's speed missions were fine. The werehog platforming did get a little annoying.
Maybe it's because I modded the awful combat music out but I didn't hate the werehog. I actually enjoyed it the most out of any of the non-speed stages in the 3D sonic games.
I mean the best type of alternate stage to have in a Sonic game is 'none', but if they insist on having them at all this wasn't a bad choice imo
I wonder what it is about sonic that's spawned people like chris chan. It's just a character that moves to the right and left really fast and it just exploded into a nightmare of autism.
it would be like if a band that used to be good released an album that is just remixes of their old songs and the stockholm syndrome'd fans try telling people "omg {band} is back and better than ever!"
Homing attack and autorunning sections were never a good idea for 3D Sonic's longevity. I get wanting to show off what the Dreamcast was capable of but turning Sonic into a giant QTE was an unnecessary sacrifice.
this, even the devs know all people want is adventure 3 and they for some reason refuse to do it and make dogshit no one but autists enjoy like forces and frontiers
why? I like Unleashed, Colors, Generations, Mania, Frontiers and the Rush games
sonic still manages to have good games, people pretending the whole series deserves to be erased because they release a complete stinker every now and then are morons
Generations is good. Mania is kino.

You were wrong about the number of recreations

I like Generations, but Classic Sonic feels like absolute dogshit. Mania IS kino, though.
i refuse, im ok with the handheld era
Based Sonic Advance 3 was the peak quality of the Franchise before it all went downhill with Shadow 05 and the dreadful 06
SA2 created hundreds of thousands of tasteless homosexuals that will gobble up awful voice acting, horrible level design, half assed mechanics, buggy shitheaps that will scream "SOUL" and start foaming up with anger when anyone dares say the game is just not good.
you just described all of n64, ps1, and Dreamcast all at the same time. its not the game, its the entire generation.
Shut up and look at Rouge
Sonic 1 and Adventure saga are the best Sonic games for Sega home consoles.
Accurate

I wish GH act 3 only had two checkpoints. Feels inconsistent in how it's the only act to have more than two.
Sonic Heroes was the last time they tried, and put out a good game. Everything since has been pretty mediocre.
Sonic Riders was great. Sonic Colors was pretty good, and as the
anon said, the handheld era was great. I personally enjoyed Unleashed & Generations too.
well I didn't of course. Unleashed is an abomination, Shadow was neat but bad, Colors is fine, Riders is pretty good I guess. the GBA games are fine. but I could leave it all, I haven't cared since I got wiener teased by Sonic Heroes and day dreamed about a sequel ever since.

I think Unleashed's speed missions were fine. The werehog platforming did get a little annoying.
if they removed the werehog stuff, and included a multiplayer fighter mode like Sonic the Fighters, then Unleashed could have been pretty neat.
maybe the werehog could have been a powerup in multiplayer that anyone could have got. like werefox, or wereechidna.
If you could have a sequel to one of these, which one would you choose
I’m stuck between Shadow 2 and Heroes 2
I wonder what it is about sonic that's spawned people like chris chan. It's just a character that moves to the right and left really fast and it just exploded into a nightmare of autism.
Sonic 1 and S&K are the best classic games. 2, CD and 3 are fun, but they are too easy. CD especially.
yup. hate that I got into sonic with the best game, everything else has paled in comparison. the devs are stupid for not giving us what we want.
Played both Adventure games back to back for the first time last year and the first game felt orders of magnitude better.
I just ignore everything after SA2 except for the Advance trilogy. Sonic Advance 3 is the last game in the series to me.
>but muh Sonic Mania is good
>but muh Sonic Generations is good
Frick off.
it would be like if a band that used to be good released an album that is just remixes of their old songs and the stockholm syndrome'd fans try telling people "omg {band} is back and better than ever!"
Homing attack and autorunning sections were never a good idea for 3D Sonic's longevity. I get wanting to show off what the Dreamcast was capable of but turning Sonic into a giant QTE was an unnecessary sacrifice.
Sage is our Maria of Sonic Frontiers! She’s still part of the Robotnik Family
this, even the devs know all people want is adventure 3 and they for some reason refuse to do it and make dogshit no one but autists enjoy like forces and frontiers
This game sucked though. 2/3rds of the game is literally unplayable unfun garbage.
