Honestly this, I've done countless Diablo 2 characters to this day, have played through a couple poe seasons ect....I love this genre. But I can never stick with GD past the first few constellation unlocks. It's just missing something that hooks me. Grim Yawn indeed.

The trade economy is the massively multiplayer part, you might not think a game can be and MMO without it being a WoW style with people wondering about doing their own thing within a shared instance, but you're wrong, the trade economy influences the value of everything you acquire which influences the rate of your progression which influences your progression through the gameplay systems. Use warrants and mandates. On your first go through you'll probably take long enough to have them unlocked.
I've already done literally everything there is to do in grim dawn, it's just a fact, grim dawn is far grindier all things considered. if you wanted the most expensive item in the entire game of poe, you can grind even low level content at a pace that would get you that in under 100 hours if you were REALLY slow. out of my 846 hours in grim dawn, well over 100 were just grinding singular pieces for chaos AAR because of how items affixes work in grim dawn.

every update I pop in to check it out, and it's always still shit. the combat feels worse than GDs somehow, the crafting is eh, the multiplayer is still broken, and I have never played a game with more bugs. Camera bugs, terrain bugs, enemy AI bugs including bosses, just constant non stop barrage of bugs every single time. They need atleast five more years, minimum, and it already looks and feels extremely dated as it is.

All these type of games are about going all-in with skill points in 1-3 main dmg skills and utility spells on top
GD is much better than poe but I miss having to use 10 skills and switching weapons like necro in D2. Also why is GD so damn long
The gameplay variety in PoE is much wider than GD, so even if it's 1 button the dopamine hits come from more than just pure combat.
Also, most PoE builds are not 1 button, unless you're dogshit. Usually you have at least a Damage skill, some buff/CD esque skills (banners, totems, Vaal skills, blessings, offerings etc), 4-5 flasks which need to be pressed every 8-10 seconds and a movement skill. As you invest more into a build you're able to shave off buttons by automating things like flasks or triggers, and you can reduce the amount of times you need to press other buttons by increasing buff uptimes through things like skill duration, but those options are not available until endgame, sometimes very deep into end game.

Even RF has buttons, the main skill just isn't one of them. Infernal cry is used for clear before Maven boots, you probably have an arcanists brand with double curse, you are probably applying exposure through wave of conviction and you probably have a firetrap if you dont want your single target to be dogshit. All of that with 4-5 flasks and the movement skill.
Obviously you can just walk around at base move speed, press no button and still kill things with RF but you'd be doing literally pathetic damage relative to if you did a rotation properly.

Grim Dawn is probably better if you are doing one playthrough of the campaign. But for replayability it gets absolutely mogged, and for amount of endgame shit.

I feel this. I liked it's build variety going through the campaign but I would never attempt going through it again, especially since going through the end of the worod enviorments gets old very quick.
i felt this way when i was under 200hrs playtime
after getting Lokarr Set, reps and Clarity pots and multiple playthroughs, the campaign can be done in 4-5hrs, meaning you complete normal/elite/ultimate and get to level 94, it seems bad at first since GD is a slower pace game, but in reality its really easy and quick

Rog is an early mapping solution to shit gear, he wont make the most overpowered items, if you need influenced, fractured bases, or corrupted implicits hes no good but hes great at rares that can carry you through your void stones and most of your favourited maps. By which point you can drop Expedition and choose a better farming strat to purchase bases/crafting materials for bigger crafts.

I enjoyed Grim Dawn a lot, and got into it before PoE, but there's a reason I finished everything in GD in roughly 600 hours HC and why I've put 6,000 hours into Path of Exile. Also PoEs combat is objectively better, I don't mind GD's but it just doesn't have the reactivity that PoEs does, most fights are just standing and face tanking or kiting slowly because of how limited the mobility options are, even after they added movement skills.
In addition, I really really really hated the endgame of GD involving so many consumables. I don't enjoy consumables in any video game, they're tedious inventory management and buff simulators that are used to waste your time and fill holes in item design. Flasks in PoE while also very annoying are a shitload better than popping whatever 8 consumes I needed to fight Kalagadra.
I hope they make a grim dawn 2 though with a more modern engine, their old engine isn't cutting it anymore and they have everything ready to make what could be the best ARPG of all time, instead of fricking around with a shitty town builder that literally nobody asked for. Hopefully they take the step that ARPGs need, which is using WASD movement to allow for casting/attacking on the move. Having to stand still for every single action in either game is absolutely moronic and antiquated, it needs to end.
This game was unironically the actual sequel to Diablo 1. ARPGs went the total worst direction possible.
I have about 600 hours in Grim Dawn but there comes a point where you're finished with it forever and that's fine.
