i always make sure to tell the party to write down "identification papers and permits" to handwave away all problems involving walking around from town to town fully clad in weapons and armor seemingly not tied down to any land

Most of the party probably just stare blankly at the guards and my mage explains how her dagger is a spell focus forged from iron extracted from her blood, and damn did it take a lot of blood. Basically had to create a spell that let her rapidly regenerate blood and automatically harvest it to make that blade.

Politely inform the guards that we are in fact members of the local lord's military, and have the paperwork to prove it, regardless of our appearance. If for some reason they press the issue, I dunno, try to detain these people who obviously aren't guards until the real authorities arrive? We definitely are allowed to be armed, and our organization is very well known, so this could only be a setup or a misunderstanding.

Explain to the ridiculous c**t that our arms are not at the local inn they are currently attached to our individual shoulders. Remind the guards to go back to the inn and retrieve their eyes (and possibly, brains). I then address the party and recommend we leave this town, it is a silly place.
