I feel like it's not said often enough that gen 4 has the worst starters. Every other gen has at least one starter that's consistently brought up in the best starter conversation, they just don't come up at all.
People who started with Gen 4 are a massive poriton of the playerbase thanks to how huge the DS was. It's frustrating to see, I'm in the same age range as people who began with Sinnoh but I was playing Pokemon before any of them, I think Sinnoh sucks from both a gameplay and design perspective but it's carried harder by nostalgia than any other generation, even Genwun, because at least Genwunners don't pretend like the games are objective masterpieces beyond any sort of criticism like your average Sinnohfetus.
