So do I. On my second playthrough I used mods, including the party size, and lvl 20 mods. It was cool being able to see so much more of the world in one go, but it made the combat shit easy if you didn't intentionally handicap yourself by having a character or two just do nothing the whole time.

There is literally no in-lore explanation why some powerful king cannot use spell scrolls as ammunition and equip his elite troops with automatized casting devices. Like modern semi-auto rifles, but casting fireballs and chain lightning, and mortars that cast ice/fire storm.
There can be a homebrew solution by GM (the Weave exhausts after casting and needs time to re-weave itself), but DnD doesn't explicitly forbid it.

          Anonymous

How could you use scrolls as ammunition? They need someone to read them, right?

Yeah, like the pixies that they used in Moonlanterns.
Also the captain of this troop can put multiple pixies in his chaingun and obliterate enemies even with low-level spells (i.e. 6x(Lv.1 Magic Missile)).

Make her an actually likeable character even after knowing what she is, then force players with a choice of either killing her off or saving her at the expense of themselves/the world. You already saw how autistic people got about not being able to save Karlach, imagine the shitshow with an actually good character.

Daisy was super fricked in EA, the bugginess of the game made all her cutscenes super award and she was unable to be taken seriously, combine that with the tadpole powers being complete shit and everyone hating you if you give into them and it led to no one trusting Daisy, leading Larian to change it.

That is something that should have been improved on instead of going with the current system where it absolutely doesn't matter how much you give in to the squid despite the game warning you a trillion times.

It's one of the rare moments where the "right" decision is punished and the "wrong" is rewarded.
She is revived in Act 3 anyway and you can only kill her for good there.

                >Mind flayers are completely separate creatures from their hosts.
then why is this not true when you or any of your party members become mindflayers in order to handle the brain?

Literally a plot hole. The character converted to a mind flayer should be uncontrollable.

mindlflayers are just a mental Ship of Theseus, the parasite retains memory and personality of a prior host after their body and soul are destroyed. think star trek beams, are you the same person you were before being atomized and reconstructed in a different location? no, but functionally yes

D&D isn't an atheist fantasy though. Gods and souls exist, and there's no doubt about it because they frick shit up all the time.

Illithids have the memories of everyone they consume, equally with their original memory. If they do have personalities, it's simply a sum of those they've consumed.

pretty sure kethric specifically has armor that makes it so you can't push him. The worst part of the fight imo was the AoE bone chill making it hard to keep everyone up because lol no healing.

I always just kill him so I don't know how the game forces you to kill him if you try to let him live. Every person with the magic stones was planning to betray each other though, Gortash would have 100% betrayed you and tried to kill you after you help him kill Orin so he can have all the stones to himself. I assume that is how the game forces you to kill him?

          Anonymous

I did 10 STR, 14+1 DEX, 14 CON, 8 INT, 10 WIS, 15+2 CHA but dumping STR probably would've been more optimal since their are quite a lot of non-repeatable INT checks in the game while most STR checks can be redone with another character.

Blade Warlock gets an extra attack at level 5 which stacks with the paladin level 5 extra attack, and you get warlock spell slots which recharge on short rest, so you can smite up to 3 times in a turn and get way more smite charges overall. Paladin and Warlock both scale with charisma too so that’s the only stat you need to max. And you get eldritch blast for ranged if you’re too far to smite.

If you want to melee do paladin 5 first, respec into warlock 5 since you're getting your extra attack from that too and you can drop your STR for CHA only. Proceed with 5 levels of paladin for another extra attack. For maximum memery add 2 levels of fighter on top for action surge.

So it basically depends on whether blade warlock 5 extra attack was patched not to work with regular extra attacks (like it's supposed to) or not. Otherwise just do 3 warlock 9 paladin or something. Or just remain a pure paladin at that point. It really doesn't matter, the game isn't hard enough for it to matter.

The Iron Throne was by far the most fun encounter in this whole game, and I wish they'd done more creative stuff like that than the typical "Kill all of your opponents" meatgrinders. Seeing the hate for that quest though, I get why they didn't.

What didn't help is that I rescued those fricks the first time around and the moment we arrived back at the docks THEY ALL JUST FRICKING DESPAWNED AND I HAD TO DO THAT SHIT ALL OVER AGAIN

But that's what made it so fun, at least for me. I had no slot for arcane gate, only 2 potions of speed and a handful of dimensions doors. By the end I was literally throwing the lil gnomes and halflings onto the ladder. And my character died because he wasn't willing to leave anyone behind. Just awesome.

You're not getting genuine moments like that with boring shit like the Bhaalite "detective" plot where you just kill low level doppelgangers every hundred meters.

This. Iron Throne was a fun idea, but holy fricking shit was it bugged as hell. I had to reload like 5 times throughout it because some turns the gnomes would legit just dash then walk two feet before stopping.

Nearly every Act 3 quest is bugged to some extent and it makes me not want to even bother finishing the game.
The haunted artist mansion was miserable with how the cursed skulls could throw you noclipping through the wall and the ghosts having what I can only assume is far too high of a stat when resisting being seen by see invisiblity since there's no way they'd make the fight so intentionally of a slog spending turns upon turns failing to break their invisibility.
Most other quests have a lot of breaks in the markers that annoyingly stay up even if you complete it or quests that have bugged dialogue that either imply you did things you didn't or talk about things you did as if you didn't

For the ghost mansion quest, the best approach I found is to fly up to the high balcony from the outside. Going through the inside SUXX

          Anonymous

In a game that auto game overs you for fricking around and finding out on a relatively normal basis, there should at least be an insight check to see whether or not he will. Its impossible to actually know the severity to fricking around with someone. Because it could easily be:
          >He's lying
          >He wont do it IMMEDIATELY
          >He'll do it immediately
and you have no way of knowing beforehand. This isnt even a "damn you're stupid/a coward," theres just an objective lack of information with a really impactful downside if you do end up getting the bad end for it. Not to mention killing gortash bugging iron throne isnt intentional and just part of the shitty act 3 experience in general. The dev intent could've easily been to deal with gortash the hard way if you wanted to save everyone but instead they rely on you willing to bet peoples lives with no extra information.

How fricking hard is it to provide some other way to deal with the Steel Watchers than to force me to need to bother with two gnome factions, one of which I murdered getting to Act3 and the other one I never have two shits about?

Replaying act 1 absolutely ruined the game for me. There's more convos between your companions just walking around the grove than you get in all of act 3. Just ambient stuff like finding the spider egg nest up on that cliff, or Astarion's exsanguinated animal corpses lying around, stuff like that is just absent.

    Another victim of scope creep.

      Can someone explain this meme?

        Anonymous

It's kinda funny in the episode because it's a bunch of automated prerecorded messages in an abandoned space station that all start with shit like that, but I'm not sure why it became a meme. Maybe it's just silly because it's the "main villain" doing all those announcements.

        Anonymous

Gul Dukat (the guy you usually see in the meme) used to run the space station DS9
The Star Trek A-Team accidently triggers a self destruct sequence programmed in case of a Bajoran (the israelites) uprising
Dukat has a nice voice so he decided to record himself threatening them with death, thus "ATTENTION BAJORAN WORKERS"

You get the option to fight him during the coronation but most of your party members will advice you against it. I just beat him there a few hours ago with relative ease. If you are level 11, have a decent chunk of healing potions and use AOE spells in a chokepoint the fight is doable. Apparently killing him during the coronation breaks some quests though since Larian got lazy as frick with act 3

I always wanted to play D&D as a kid but I never knew anyone who would play it with me. Grew up in a small town. Later in life, living in a shitty urban apartment with several roommates, they had a weekly D&D game. Now I'm not above being called a nerd or geek or whatever, but I have some standards. Having a bodyweight within the healthy range, for starters.

Anyway all these guys and girls (I had 7 roommates in this place, 3 story house, small, mostly bedrooms, New England style) were just not my type of nerds. The only good conversations I ever had with them were about FTL, Khan Academy, and lentils. The rest were quite unpleasant. But I eventually agreed to join one of their Friday night D&D games.

I'd never played before so I make a human barbarian, that sounded cool. Two guys make fun of me for my suboptimal choice, I just shrug. Anyway we start going into this crypt looking for the mayor's missing daughter, and some gay casts a spell on the stony entranceway causing it to cave down on all of us. He laughs so hard he throws up on the floor. The DM almost does (I think they were best friends). A girl gets up to grab more beers (hard cider from a growler they got earlier) but trips on her way back and spills them on the floor too.

Never again. D&D, and similar, seems like it would be incredible with the right group of people. But good luck finding them.

    mindflayers don’t have souls
the tadpole is a construct that mimics its host’s behaviour
when an elder brain is active, it psionically binds that construct to its will
a mindflayer that is ‘free’ from an elder brain is merely a LARPing machine that doesn’t have to submit to another psionic higher authority
it plays out its host’s desires and fears faithfully, which is why you think that the host’s soul is still there

Do I miss out on anything if I don't take Raphael's deal and just go to house of hope myself via the ritual
    Also
    >b***h gives you a ritual bag
    >Doesn't give instructions on how to do the ritual
    Hilarious

yeah the ritual book is nonsensical.
      >the two points opposite
      >on the left is *this*
      >on the right is *that*
Woah, did you think I was talking about the first spot? No, I'm talking about those spots I just called empty, you fricking moron!

        >being so illiterate that you can't follow simple directions
Having two different ritual instructions is the real problem here.

          >say the two points opposite are empty
          >then describe putting objects to the left and right
Why the frick would I assume those objects belong in the "empty" spots?

You read the directions that are there for fluff. You were supposed to read the simplified instructions.

I just assaulted the stronghold head on and it caused the entire second floor to aggro on me... while I was on the first floor. The Steel Watchers were not able to path their way down from there but everybody else was sure able to. Including Gortash. Into the hell of battlefield control spells that I placed inside the very narrow corridor.

Ended up killing him even through his invulnerability bullshit as all the enemies basically funneled into my kill choke.

I had everyone EXCEPT Gortash come down (but I had destroyed the Steel Watch foundry, so it was just the Bainites) on my first run. But Gortash was still part of the initiative tracker, so the camera would freak out on his turns. And the wall trap things.... That encounter was torture.

I tried assaulting from the second floor and whenever you cast a spell a magic user who wasn't even originally agroed would cast counterspell through the floor.
I just went to the roof directly after that and skipped those fights.

    >He gets butthurt and threatens to make me a mindflayer against his will
    >IMMEDIATELY invade House of Hope and steal the orphic hammer to replace him
How long until I get to break back into the prism, bros? I want to teach this tentacle frick what it means to threaten me.

Basically it's a scripted event after Act 3 and you cannot miss it.
