I personally got a lot more use out of my Vita than my 3DS, especially once Limited Run started putting out tons of games for it. Much better screen than the 3DS and ultimately a better game library
Nah, sony didn't advertise it well at all, they sabotaged it with proprietary and expensive memory cards, and the library was pretty pathetic. It's only saved by homebrew and jailbreaking, which allowed better mem cards and a huge library of games to enjoy.
I find it to be pretty good for emulation's sake. Fits right in with my 3DS.

Most of what you said is true about the 3DS (mine didn't have any battery issues, maybe yours was just shit or something) but the 3DS was still a far better system than the Vita. The Vita was just full of dumb choices and had no games or any support at all. Yes, games carried it (although for me it was Monster Hunter), games carry consoles, dunno how that's a surprise to you. I loved the PSP for what it's worth.

Besides that, the 3DS lacks a library on par with the DS. Only 2 Sonic games, which were watered down console ports, a 1 mediocre Castlevania compared to the DS games. No advance wars, just a fire emblem waifu machine.
3DS was good, but my God were the cracks beginning to show.
Take games like Rayman Origins and Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. Two games that appeared on both 3DS and Vita.
The Vita versions outsold the 3DS versions by a wide margin.

It had a lot of issues, but after actually using one the thing i actually had the biggest problem with was the size of the buttons, it's a problem I sorta have with handhelds in general, but very vividly remember the Vita face buttons were so small and cramped and how much I hated it.

Vita is my favorite port console for homebrew, LBP, some ported titles, and emulated classics.
It has problems with lack of game library and battery life isn't the best but I still love it.

3DS had already price dropped from $250 to $170 in response to low consumer enthusiasm by the time Vita came out. When the Vita launched in 2012 it was $300 out the door ($250 Wifi only version, one game, cheapest memory card.) The mantra was always "wait for a price drop" however, and a 2012 Amazon $180 Black Friday bundle with Game and Memory Card just added fuel to that fire.
Both had a competitor in the iPod Touch, a $199 iPhone without the phone and Free/Cheap games that were more than enough for bored children, plus TV/Movies/Music.
Late 2013 they announced the 2000 revision and then price dropped to $200 but pictures of the reduced cost LCD had people saying "Don't buy the new ones, buy the old stock that's been sitting on store shelves for over two years." Stores then had their more expensive OLED Vitas sold at a loss due to the price drop and had new LCD vitas (and Vita TV units) sitting on the shelf instead. Since Vita sales didn't turn around in 2014, they stopped stocking Vita in the west by the end of fiscal year 2015. Since Sony's fiscal year ended March 31, 2016, the one person to report Sony had cancelled all Vita first party products (they had access Walmart's stocking system telling people where Amiibo were being shipped) was accused of being a troll and a bad April fools joke. The post was deleted to save reddit karma.
Then Limited Run Games found out you could publish as small as 3000 copies of a Vita game and started doing limited print runs of titles that started a whole new collector's market.
