I actually look back on shadowlands fondly. Shadowlands zones actually had a lot of soul and the nonsense story was a better direction for the game than having to care about the old characters in their current state. The dungeons were pretty good and the covenant borrowed power system allowed for a diversity of functional builds and I enjoyed breaking the meta and kicking ass doing it.
Yeah nah the entire studio has been co opted by diversity hires with zero talent or creativity. They only exist to make the game as plain and inoffensive as possible. Frick these people for ruining one of my favorite games and franchises.

What I think is funny is how deep the xiv wow schism makes the gameplay vs graphics and other things debate. On one hand you have xiv with its original story telling and respect for the fans and on the other you have wow actually being fun.
People are interested in Metzen being back, because 90% of the old guard he fought with and had back and forth of conflicting ideas are gone.
So now what ever direction the new trilogy is, it's entirely Metzens vision without people like Kosak, Knaak, Afrasabi, etc all looking to push their own ideas, self inserts and favourite characters.
And that vision is either gonna be great, proving it was all the conflicting ideas in the back room of egotistical writers that caused the mess of lore over the years. Or confirm once and for all, Metzen truly is the hack people believe him to be and he crashes and burns ending WoW on his vision.
You know, I respect this take, because at the end of the day, if the train makes it to the station, cool. If it derails and takes out an entire city, even cooler.

So Warbands seems nice?ish for Altaholics, I don't really personally get the appeal/care in the least, as Heirlooms and whatnot were similar in function. Having shared rep/bank/whatever is probably a good change but I also just don't really care, though I cede that's more of a me thing obviously.

functionally just dungeons with AI companions, something that I think other MMOs have done, again, don't really get the appeal. Dungeons generally felt like one of the weakest aspects of the game to me outside of the story-relevant clear and some of the early cata difficulty spikes/CMs, though I think the Mythic+Keystone shit kinda goes a bit far into the tedium/shoddy territory.
Well, not really getting the appeal of the expansion in the least, but I'm sure people who love to do alt shit will like Warbands, if nothing else.

fair. i am pretty lukewarm with the overall talent trees as most of them either force you down ST damage or AOE dmg and be bad at the other and so much of them sound like it should just be baseline because it's so obvious needed. They're needlessly large an honestly could be sliced to half the size.
Luckily the hero talents just has you pick 1 of 2 options per spec. As I understand it you get enough points to complete the tree so the only decision is what to take first for your leveling journey. I think they'll probably keep expanding or add more of these mini hero trees to choose instead which may take classes in different directions. a la support roles, heal dps, etc.

not really. the old pick 1 of 3 talents there was no connectivity between the tiers or synergy and they didn't supplement a different playstyle. it was usually free damage, inferior free damage, and pvp utility. there was generally no question which talent to pick.
hero talents, you get them all you just pick the tree, and every talent synergizes all together into one neatly wrapped package. that said it's not sunshine and rainbows. while a lot of them do sound cool and will make a lot of rotations more fun there are some that are kinda like the old talents like that where it's just % increases. bland stuff like that. it really depends on your class dev is. some are pretty good and some are totally inept.
time will but my stance is it's not like there's a better mmorpg on the market and my time in ff14 will prob wrap up in a month or two.

same shit happened to me with BfA, friend tried to get me into it, hopped on to do the post-Legion prepatch stuff. Levelled a demon hunter for a few hours, did like 1-2 hours on Darkshore? and then put it down, never touched it again.
I'm not, that's what happened to me. I played first in Wrath, enjoyed it, played that through early Cata. I stopped playing, came back in late Cata, did Dragon Soul? or whatever the Deathwing raid was, through Early MoP. Stopped playing, came back in SoO, enjoyed that a lot and did prog/Cutting edge. Sold that account. Started again in Warlords of Draenor, did the Dire Maul? raid tier and Blackhand Foundry prog. Sold that account, thought I'd be done for good. Friend wanted to play again during BfA and I bought into the hype a bit, RaF was really cheap as was the game itself, bought it again, played a tiny bit, figured I'd login later and continue but ended up not feeling like it. Never played it again. That's it, not a lie in the least.
Demon Hunter required a 70 to unlock, which you wouldn't have. Your lie got even more egregious by implying you sold your accounts (lol) so you definitely wouldn't have had the DH unlocked. Even if we pretend you did you started at Legion content level in Legion and BFA with DH after completing the DH story. You would never be in an old world zone like Darkshore to level a DH until Chromie Time was introduced which was Shadowlands.

At some point around Legion they broke the draw distance. It generates shit in a small circle around you now. Anything outside it has ground clutter, npcs/mobs and additional details not load in until you get close. So you end up seeing shit like

Older zones its still kinda fricked. New Zones have a pretty decent day night difference. Oce Servers get screwed because the cycle is set to US times so peak playtimes are always in darkness for them.
I want to try and replicate this if that's true
Easiest way to see the changes is to go to somewhere like Outland Hellfire and find a big open area. Look at where mobs just stop existing along with any ground clutter and details.

I want to raid so bad, but I just can take it anymore with M+ in the way. It was already bad enough before Dragonflight, but now it's just blatantly lazy content and made even worse since they buffed the gear. You can't even participate in the gear upgrading system properly if you only raid since the flight stones that drop from a +16 are only gotten from MYTHIC raid bosses, as if that's somehow equal.
I feel you man. There's no point to raiding if your not clearing Mythic at this point. You get better gear for doing M+ which is just far easier to do than doing a raid.
I did do mythic, I cleared Mythic Razageth because I didn't want to quit half way through the tier on my guild. Even clearing mythic raid 75% of my gear was crafted/M+. You grind M+ 20 hours a week for the first few so you can raid 9-12 hours. It's complete shit. What was infuriating if I mention how poorly designed and unbalanced the gearing is and I just get berated by the Blizz defenders in my guild. I can't take it anymore, the people still playing the game are a lost cause.

3 days is worth if you buy with gold. Farm materials the first 3 days and corner the market, you will make way more than what you spend on the expansion. I made 10 million gold by selling materials at the start of Dragonflight even without the early access.

WoW's story has always been shit, the problem is the gameplay itself has degraded into nonsense.
Gearing it an absolute mess of a thousand token systems to upgrade gear several times, to just repeat the process over and over, and none of the actual gear has an real impact compared to what it used to. When you got a new sword or helm, it was a noticeable upgrade and you felt more powerful, that isn't the case largely anymore, it's just random shit that is replaced quickly.
The class design in general is a mess of constant movement, CC, burst, and speed to try and mitigate time involvement, and it just doesn't flow as well. Sure in rare cases it's relatively balanced compared to how it used to be, but it can still get out of hand real quick depending on the classes and stats, which they still somehow have not figured out after all this time.
Raiding is a mess of mechanics because of addons, that have developed addons to deal with the mess of mechanics, that try to overstep the addons, and it's just a constant dipping slope.
The problem with WoW is the gameplay, the story is always a stupid mess of retcons and silly corruption bullshit and never mattered anyway. WoW has become more of a mobile gacha game riddled with FOMO to keep people subbed for the 1% that still plays, while ignoring the 99% that just wanna have fun, gear up, and play around.

I actually look back on shadowlands fondly. Shadowlands zones actually had a lot of soul and the nonsense story was a better direction for the game than having to care about the old characters in their current state. The dungeons were pretty good and the covenant borrowed power system allowed for a diversity of functional builds and I enjoyed breaking the meta and kicking ass doing it.

What I think is funny is how deep the xiv wow schism makes the gameplay vs graphics and other things debate. On one hand you have xiv with its original story telling and respect for the fans and on the other you have wow actually being fun.
People are interested in Metzen being back, because 90% of the old guard he fought with and had back and forth of conflicting ideas are gone.
So now what ever direction the new trilogy is, it's entirely Metzens vision without people like Kosak, Knaak, Afrasabi, etc all looking to push their own ideas, self inserts and favourite characters.
And that vision is either gonna be great, proving it was all the conflicting ideas in the back room of egotistical writers that caused the mess of lore over the years. Or confirm once and for all, Metzen truly is the hack people believe him to be and he crashes and burns ending WoW on his vision.

So Warbands seems nice?ish for Altaholics, I don't really personally get the appeal/care in the least, as Heirlooms and whatnot were similar in function. Having shared rep/bank/whatever is probably a good change but I also just don't really care, though I cede that's more of a me thing obviously.

Dungeons generally felt like one of the weakest aspects of the game to me outside of the story-relevant clear and some of the early cata difficulty spikes/CMs, though I think the Mythic+Keystone shit kinda goes a bit far into the tedium/shoddy territory.
Well, not really getting the appeal of the expansion in the least, but I'm sure people who love to do alt shit will like Warbands, if nothing else.

after losing my "Borrow skills from other classes" druid perk and a bunch of other things I grew jaded with Blizzard's approach to talent stuff.
fair. i am pretty lukewarm with the overall talent trees as most of them either force you down ST damage or AOE dmg and be bad at the other and so much of them sound like it should just be baseline because it's so obvious needed. They're needlessly large an honestly could be sliced to half the size.
Luckily the hero talents just has you pick 1 of 2 options per spec. As I understand it you get enough points to complete the tree so the only decision is what to take first for your leveling journey. I think they'll probably keep expanding or add more of these mini hero trees to choose instead which may take classes in different directions. a la support roles, heal dps, etc.

not really. the old pick 1 of 3 talents there was no connectivity between the tiers or synergy and they didn't supplement a different playstyle. it was usually free damage, inferior free damage, and pvp utility. there was generally no question which talent to pick.
hero talents, you get them all you just pick the tree, and every talent synergizes all together into one neatly wrapped package. that said it's not sunshine and rainbows. while a lot of them do sound cool and will make a lot of rotations more fun there are some that are kinda like the old talents like that where it's just % increases. bland stuff like that. it really depends on your class dev is. some are pretty good and some are totally inept.
time will but my stance is it's not like there's a better mmorpg on the market and my time in ff14 will prob wrap up in a month or two.

same shit happened to me with BfA, friend tried to get me into it, hopped on to do the post-Legion prepatch stuff. Levelled a demon hunter for a few hours, did like 1-2 hours on Darkshore? and then put it down, never touched it again.

I stopped playing, came back in late Cata, did Dragon Soul? or whatever the Deathwing raid was, through Early MoP. Stopped playing, came back in SoO, enjoyed that a lot and did prog/Cutting edge. Sold that account. Started again in Warlords of Draenor, did the Dire Maul? raid tier and Blackhand Foundry prog. Sold that account, thought I'd be done for good. Friend wanted to play again during BfA and I bought into the hype a bit, RaF was really cheap as was the game itself, bought it again, played a tiny bit, figured I'd login later and continue but ended up not feeling like it. Never played it again. That's it, not a lie in the least.
Demon Hunter required a 70 to unlock, which you wouldn't have. Your lie got even more egregious by implying you sold your accounts (lol) so you definitely wouldn't have had the DH unlocked. Even if we pretend you did you started at Legion content level in Legion and BFA with DH after completing the DH story. You would never be in an old world zone like Darkshore to level a DH until Chromie Time was introduced which was Shadowlands.

At some point around Legion they broke the draw distance. It generates shit in a small circle around you now. Anything outside it has ground clutter, npcs/mobs and additional details not load in until you get close. So you end up seeing shit like
where theres no fricking detail in open spaces.
Suramars design actually works to hide this because its got a lot of elements that block long views that would expose it.

Older zones its still kinda fricked. New Zones have a pretty decent day night difference. Oce Servers get screwed because the cycle is set to US times so peak playtimes are always in darkness for them.
Easiest way to see the changes is to go to somewhere like Outland Hellfire and find a big open area. Look at where mobs just stop existing along with any ground clutter and details.

I want to raid so bad, but I just can take it anymore with M+ in the way. It was already bad enough before Dragonflight, but now it's just blatantly lazy content and made even worse since they buffed the gear. You can't even participate in the gear upgrading system properly if you only raid since the flight stones that drop from a +16 are only gotten from MYTHIC raid bosses, as if that's somehow equal.
I feel you man. There's no point to raiding if your not clearing Mythic at this point. You get better gear for doing M+ which is just far easier to do than doing a raid.
I did do mythic, I cleared Mythic Razageth because I didn't want to quit half way through the tier on my guild. Even clearing mythic raid 75% of my gear was crafted/M+. You grind M+ 20 hours a week for the first few so you can raid 9-12 hours. It's complete shit. What was infuriating if I mention how poorly designed and unbalanced the gearing is and I just get berated by the Blizz defenders in my guild. I can't take it anymore, the people still playing the game are a lost cause.

WoW's story has always been shit, the problem is the gameplay itself has degraded into nonsense.
Gearing it an absolute mess of a thousand token systems to upgrade gear several times, to just repeat the process over and over, and none of the actual gear has an real impact compared to what it used to. When you got a new sword or helm, it was a noticeable upgrade and you felt more powerful, that isn't the case largely anymore, it's just random shit that is replaced quickly.
The class design in general is a mess of constant movement, CC, burst, and speed to try and mitigate time involvement, and it just doesn't flow as well. Sure in rare cases it's relatively balanced compared to how it used to be, but it can still get out of hand real quick depending on the classes and stats, which they still somehow have not figured out after all this time.
Raiding is a mess of mechanics because of addons, that have developed addons to deal with the mess of mechanics, that try to overstep the addons, and it's just a constant dipping slope.
The problem with WoW is the gameplay, the story is always a stupid mess of retcons and silly corruption bullshit and never mattered anyway. WoW has become more of a mobile gacha game riddled with FOMO to keep people subbed for the 1% that still plays, while ignoring the 99% that just wanna have fun, gear up, and play around.
