there's nothing wrong with Eternal, it feels better than 2016, but I will admit that DOOM,DOOM2, and 64 with Brutal, or Project Brutality is infinitely more fun. Eternals biggest issue is that enemies are reliant on weapon type, and how you utilize said weapon. I don't even have issues with the chainsaw being a necessity for more ammo drops.
I had a much easier time playing through that game on Nightmare when I just started to kill everything with the best weapons I had and then just refilling ammo for them with the infinite chainsaw.
My biggest problem with the game is that the game punishes you for killing monsters, by not letting you do the finisher which is apparently very fricking important for health/armor.
Zoom Eternal is the epitome of nu-fun

Not at all, you're purposely choosing to not address that difficulty settings create completely different scenarios where choosing to solely use the pistol is not only inefficient, but will get you killed when hordes are present. You can absolutely beat the original DOOMs on normal difficulty with just the pistol, but will have to consistently switch between the rocket launcher,super shotgun, and chaingun when dealing with super-enemies, and hordes on harder difficulties. It's not as frequent as Eternal which forces to to non-stop micromanage, but to purely dismiss it as non being a present thing in the originals is just straight up delusional.

Old DOOM isn't nearly as bad since you can refill pretty quickly from humanoid enemies, and even then the level is filled with it, health, and shield pickups. I like both games.
