the 360 and ps3 had actually worthwhile exclusives and the wii had a great homebrew scene (and waggle if you're into that sort of thing)
xbone had ?, ps4 had bloodborne and the wii u was fun to laugh at

PC got some of the best PC exclusive and especially multiplayer games during this gen many of which are still being played till this day. We didn't care about shitty optimised PC ports of shitty console games.
Valve was firing on all cylinders back then, we got TF2, L4D1 and 2, Portal, HL2, and Portal 2. That's on top of there being tons of MMOs out, MW2 being out, single player games like Dark Messiah and tons of old games like 1.6, Starcraft, and DotA all being played religiously.
The reason why devs stopped porting games to PC during that era is because PCs games were too fricking good. No one wanted to play some random mediocre single player game when multiplayer gaming was god tier back then and most games still had server browsers, communities were good, and there wasn't insane censorship and bans being tossed out for trivial things. PC only entered the dark ages because companies like Epic knew they couldn't compete and ran away to consoles.
All overrated games that have console ports. Also nice revisionism and cope. >too fricking good

>"DUDE BAYONETTA ON 360 IS THE ONLY PLAYABLE VERSION!" >finally play it when it's ported to PS4 and later PC >it's not even as good as DMC4
Pretty much every 360 multiplat is either fine on PS3 or better on PC. Red Dead might be the only outlier at this point
this is the main thing for me
ps3 was before game development took a gorillion years to make 1 game
you could have entire trilogies (ME uncharted GoW) in one generation
now you have to wait 12 years to finish ff7R when part 1 released years ago
Big budgets / production values have fatally injured Gaming. Now a game releasing seems to be a mega-event and not something to take for granted.
Somehow there was no Bleach game in the entire 8th Generation of consoles. It's happened a lot for anime IPs, because making a current-gen game seems to be really expensive. But back then we got dozens of franchise games for the GBA / Gamecube / PS1-2, I miss that time period.
You liked something? You'd find a game for it, hell yeah you would.
Dragon Ball had sooooo many games, at least half of them good. Now we're stuck waiting for Tenkaichi 4, the only previous releases were Fighterz, Xenoverse, and Kakarot.
YUGIOH, Yugioh was choke-full of titles back then, some even didn't even have card games or played by other rules.
I miss it.
it just sounds like you were stuck with the no gamestation3 for the longest time
That's true, but right now I can't think of- WAIT, DARK SOULS. Dark Souls belongs to the 7th gen, right? I did play it on PC.
That might turn the tides. DS is about as emblematic as RE4 and also reshaped the games we get now.
>For for the rest of gamers, nothing really released there that would put it above the previous Gen.
But how does that make it "the worst"? Do you only think in absolutes or what? I'd also say RE5 was better than 4 but that's me. You also listed so little amount of games that were offered from that gen it's dishonest.
I just don't know the generation very much, but I rarely see discussion of games from that time. Except Dark Souls. That evens things out.
I hope companies will realize the scope creep needs to stop. ps3 graphics are more than enough for any type of game. but along with reducing dev time they also need to make the games cheaper.
i believe games are made pretty cheap when you consider FF7s budget was like 45mil
the games themselves are cheap its all the advertisement bloating the games
gotta pay 200000 pajeets minimum wage so they can spam V threads

its generally agreed as the last year of gaming before big business had full control. they were creeping before that but after 2007 was when they stopped holding back punches. game design used to be made by programming nerds and 2007 was the release of many of their dream games. I don't know why exactly it all came to shit at that time but it certainly did. again, it was getting worst year by year but gaming culture fall off a cliff after '07
>it was getting worst year by year but gaming culture fall off a cliff after '07
I think it was a combination of the rise of social media (gaming becoming more popular through this) and attracting normies + big business driving out the original programmers from the 90's and early 2000's and installing yes men from within their company

Oh, I thought he meant advertisements as in product placement (very common in 00's games) like Alan Wake. Nice throwback to when people got BTFO by ADS lmao
>death of the RPG genre with Oblivion/FO3
these two games are the single most egregious offense committed by devs in the last 3 years. When you look at what is wrong with the industry, paid reviews, Hollywood theatrics, gameplay """accessibility""", the dilution and outright removal of complexity and game mechanics, it all comes back to these two games.
FO3 and oblivion were the two most destructive events to ever happen to vidya, ever, period. If you trace what you dislike the most about anything that has come out since their release, you will find it came from those two bethesda games.
and yet
no one talks about that
no one, not one word
no one wants to admit their favorite tes poisoned the well for the next 20 years. Everything comes back to those two games. Everything.

I think TLoU and Spec Ops The Line are to blame too. Every game having to have to have a message or tell a story more or less started with those 2 but you could argue that they're a consequence of FO3 I guess.
Spec Ops didn't influence too much.
At the time it was considered a novelty, but it didn't trigger the same obsession that The Last of Us did, later.
Probably on account of it being only partially a narrative driven game.
I hate rpgcodex at this point but back then it was the only place on the internet where you could actually call out Bethesda without a hoard of ravenous 12 year olds tearing you apart for not sucking Toddwiener harder than the magazines they paid off.
Don't forget about certain games were hard to find for some. I got lucky getting Chrono Trigger DS. And only recently did I find a copy of TWEWY and Infinite Space.
>The last even remotely halfway decent console generation is now suddenly the worst
Pull your head out of the sand and take a look around, wienersucker.
Literally no one says that except Multiplayergays / Shootergays.
It was indeed the best if you were heavily into Call of Duty, Halo or something like that.
But otherwise it's arguably the worst generation, talking about how many 'emblematic' games they managed to produce
For for the rest of gamers, nothing really released there that would put it above the previous Gen.
Like... let me try to think, what were 'the best' Gen 7 games? God of War 3, Metal Gear Solid 4? Gen 6 already had the two first GoWs, and MGS 3 which is the best in the franchise.
Resident Evil 5 and 6? Previous had 4 which is again the superior game.
Not talking about sequels, hmmm what were the 'must have, award-winning' games of the PS3 / Xbox 360 generation?
Mirror's Edge, Little Big Planet? I don't think anything measures up to the real classics Shadows of the Colossus, Okami, GTA San Andreas...
>Dumbed down >MUH HECKIN' CHILDREN'S TOYS USED TO BE HECKIN' DEEP AND FULL OF INTELLECT AND SMARTS NEEDIN'
BULLSHIT. Video games have ALWAYS BEEN first and foremost, BRAINLET SHIT. YOU FRICKERS ARE BLINDED BY NOSTALGIA.
7th gen was the gen of DESTRUCTIBLE ENVIRONEMNTS
feels like every game like battlefield and red faction guerilla were pushing blowing anything you could see to pieces
now? you can RPG a wall in most games and just have a little black smear on the plaster
That was kind of a downgrade, and I know the answer. Destroying the environment is probably too expensive now, same reason they didn't animate transformations in the Resident Evil games (whenever a monster is entering his 2nd phase, they use camera tricks to hide it, then you just see the result).
The real reason is because videogames have become corporate.
Profitability of a videogame comes first in the minds of executives, while back in the day it boiled down to individual passion of creating something truly great.
They wanted to push boundaries to their limits as far as their imaginations could afford.
Back in the day being... the 7th gen? The 7th gen is where individual passion blossomed and corporate interests were barely there? Are you out of your fricking mind moron?
not him, but the ps3 architecture-wise was the embodiment of ken kutaragi's insanity and the gen was probably the last big leap we've had until the best we've been getting is memetracing. not even something as cool as the plethora of ds games that actually had cool unique game design, or the wii bringing motion controls and fricking NO MORE HEROES. say what you will about either, but the concept was at least cool and had potential that wasn't completely squandered on third party shovelware. the psp was pretty much a portable playstation 1/2 hybrid that was a smartphone before smartphones were a thing was like wizardry. again, you can think whatever you want about the minutiea of it all or how they really turned out, but completely disregarding the generation as passionless and money driven in itself is insanity up until the end-mid of the gen, just because of the ps3's and xbox 360's sins
>great exclusives on both boxes >western devs at their peak >two/three year dev cycles tops >full trilogies of games in a single console cycle >no battle passes >the marvelization of writing had yet to infect gaming
>no battle pass
there was however online passes for a good 3 or so years
not that it matters because most online pass games were DoA in terms of player count and i never bought used games anyway
Online passes are such a 7th gen relic, it's funny to remember that FRICKING GAMESTOP was such a problem for the industry. Honestly I kinda get why they were implemented
>buy new game >distributor/publisher/dev get money
>buy used game >Gamestop gets $50 >Gamestop heavily encouraged trades and their people highly encouraged used game sales, conceivably could make hundreds on a single game >dev gets $10 for online pass if the person had enough interest in the game to play the online
I'm not referring to DLC or battle maps or whatever, I'm referring specifically to activation codes to be able to play online games. It was a tactic specifically deployed to combat used game sales
>everything getting dumbed down to appeal to a wider audience >every fps not made by valve is either cod or halo >nintendo in their wagglan era >jap devs confined to handheld game hell because they can't make the jump to hd >"we want the call of duty audience"
the absolute worst garbage generation. the only thing that made it bearable was jap devs finally getting their shit together at the very end.
This is the complaints from the same people now, who only play AAAslop and what's considered popular. There were a lot of indie/creative games and lesser known titles to choose from in this era, especially on Wii and DS.
Indies barely existed as a scene back then. At best you had mods being made for established titles.
Cave Story was like the biggest name around.
It wasn't until the early 2010s that indies became anything big.
The very tail end saw the indie boom, you're right.
Mainly because what AAA devs were putting out was so atrocious on average that even something like Fez was considered world shaking.
Boomer here. That generation had way more good games than the last one. But it also had a lot of cancerous practices bogging down some great games and developers. Overall, it was great, but not better than the previous ones. Also, it was the last time games actually felt "next gen"
i had the "next gen" feeling when i first started up desr at launch but that was all because of the controller and not the console itself. the last time an actual console blew me away with what it was capable of was the Dreamcast but i was heavily into the pc gaming scene right after the Dreamcast so yeah.

PCgays complain no matter what. This is the gen where PC players were so ass devastated it's unbelievable. I don't believe it was the best gen, but console players enjoyed this era while the "master race" was whining.
>turn off DX11 (back in the day, any mid PC nowadays can bruteforce pretty much any game from that era) >plug in a control
Honestly fixes 99% of all problematic 7th gen games on PC.
I can't believe ameritards bought a console going ROD every three months and were ok with this because "Microsoft replaced them anyway lol".
Well of course they replace it, you paid for a faulty console breaking every morning you homosexual and you have to move your ass and burn some gas to ship it back and wait until it's repaired. Why are they ok with this? Microsoft always shit on customers and they never mind.
>Muh Red Ring!!
Never had this problem. Had me the sleek black 360 and thoroughly enjoyed faaaar more 360 titles than I've enjoyed any titles from the following console generations so far.
>zoomer loses it and goes into shitpost mode after being refuted the entire thread
love to see it, can't wait to see you guys in the next (You) farm thread
>it's the worst gen because it's the only gen where we got btfo
I know for a fact that every single person who posts this shit is a snoy. 8th gen is so much fricking worse and 9th is an absolute fricking disaster
I didn't say anything about the xbox snoytroony, but keep pretending the wii never existed and outselling the 360 after the gen already ended counts as a victory lmfao
yeah, nostalgia for a time when games were more than just season pass skimmerboxes designed to hook you up to their games as if they were your fricking life support. the problems of this generation are quaint in comparison to the most minor issues of today's video games and you would have to be such an unobservant or contrarian prick to say otherwise.
none of those will be remembered or will in anyway compare with the great rock music of the 70s or even early 90s. it's just gay angsy teen ow the edgehog shit
>t. 80 year old man wishing he was young again
You say this, but the bands you'd list have time on their side. You probably had morons thinking AC/DC and Aerosmith weren't going to be remembered either. Imagine thinking out of that short list that anon posted that Linkin Park won't be remembered.
It was the final gen before games fell into one of two buckets: homogenized AAA slop, or low-budget derivative indie games. Arguably, this gen is the reason we ended up here, but it was the last hurrah of largely unstifled creative freedom and decently high budgets. Every game released felt big and uncompromised, compared to today where barely a handful of big games come out each month buried under gallons of worthless indie drivel. In the 3 month span that was Holiday 2007 (Aug 21 - Nov 20), over 30 big budget and highly reviewed games came out. We're lucky if we see 15 in a whole year these days. And quality wise, there's absolutely zero reason to ever play a game released outside of 1991-2010.
Had it not been for the Red Ring of Death, the Xbox 360 in my opinion is the greatest console of all time.
What it did for online gaming for consoles was truly revolutionary for its time. The app service integration such as Netflix that allowed 4 people watching on 1 person's account was ahead of its time.... even today.
Up to 8 player party chats, and easy to use interfaces. It changed the way we view our entertainment box in our living rooms forever.
Absolutely based, don't forget Demos / XBLA Game Trials vs where they are now. It was also the best gen for 3rd party games, PS3 is underrated just because it shared all of those games 360 had.
Pre-2010 people didn't discuss "best gens" because all gens were fricking awesome.
Post-2010 the movie game shitstorm began, split the gamer-scape into two, and talk of "best gen" began
>the best gen because... stable releases
FIFY
>the best gen because... stable releases
>more titles could be played without a mouse + keyboard
the worst gen is now the best gen because everything after was complete dogshit

No, I was referencing around the 2000's.
Games like Blood and Deus Ex.
Oh, well that's what the reply chain was talking about.
I know, I just wanted to chime in.
not him, but the ps3 architecture-wise was the embodiment of ken kutaragi's insanity and the gen was probably the last big leap we've had until the best we've been getting is memetracing. not even something as cool as the plethora of ds games that actually had cool unique game design, or the wii bringing motion controls and fricking NO MORE HEROES. say what you will about either, but the concept was at least cool and had potential that wasn't completely squandered on third party shovelware. the psp was pretty much a portable playstation 1/2 hybrid that was a smartphone before smartphones were a thing was like wizardry. again, you can think whatever you want about the minutiea of it all or how they really turned out, but completely disregarding the generation as passionless and money driven in itself is insanity up until the end-mid of the gen, just because of the ps3's and xbox 360's sins
>great exclusives on both boxes
>western devs at their peak
>two/three year dev cycles tops
>full trilogies of games in a single console cycle
>no battle passes
>the marvelization of writing had yet to infect gaming
it was a better time
>no battle pass
there was however online passes for a good 3 or so years
not that it matters because most online pass games were DoA in terms of player count and i never bought used games anyway
Online passes are such a 7th gen relic, it's funny to remember that FRICKING GAMESTOP was such a problem for the industry. Honestly I kinda get why they were implemented
i dont think gamestop had anything to do with online passes
gamestop fricking loved used sales they lived off of those
>buy new game
>distributor/publisher/dev get money
>buy used game
>Gamestop gets $50
>Gamestop heavily encouraged trades and their people highly encouraged used game sales, conceivably could make hundreds on a single game
>dev gets $10 for online pass if the person had enough interest in the game to play the online
I'm not referring to DLC or battle maps or whatever, I'm referring specifically to activation codes to be able to play online games. It was a tactic specifically deployed to combat used game sales
i misunderstood problem for the industry my bad
I think really only ea and sony did those; season passes were a bit more prominent, kinda split between which is worst between those and battle passes
It was indeed and while I did experience the PS2, the 7th Generation had so much more to offer.
Your reasons too, state the greatness of that era.
It was the worst gen other than every gen since
The beginning of the end
>everything getting dumbed down to appeal to a wider audience
>every fps not made by valve is either cod or halo
>nintendo in their wagglan era
>jap devs confined to handheld game hell because they can't make the jump to hd
>"we want the call of duty audience"
the absolute worst garbage generation. the only thing that made it bearable was jap devs finally getting their shit together at the very end.
I think we have very different tastes in videogames
>nintendo in their wagglan era
I don't mind this as much, just wish it wasn't so inaccurate even with Motion+.
This is the complaints from the same people now, who only play AAAslop and what's considered popular. There were a lot of indie/creative games and lesser known titles to choose from in this era, especially on Wii and DS.
>There were a lot of indie/creative games and lesser known titles to choose from in this era, especially on Wii and DS.
Kys fail fish
lol there he is, the anon who consumes only popular indie games and then blames others for his shit taste
Indies barely existed as a scene back then. At best you had mods being made for established titles.
Cave Story was like the biggest name around.
It wasn't until the early 2010s that indies became anything big.
That fell into that gen though. Some of them include...
World of Goo
Castle Crashers
Minecraft
Super Meat Boy
etc
The very tail end saw the indie boom, you're right.
Mainly because what AAA devs were putting out was so atrocious on average that even something like Fez was considered world shaking.
also
>every games color palette being brown black and dark brown
>i see trending movie/youtube video/whatever
>i make thread on Ganker
ok npc
Best gen was PS2 era
More people remember 360 and ps3 as "early" consoles because they were out for like 10 fricking years before their replacements
360 was my last gen before my permanent move to PC. It was late 2012 or early 2013 when I made the switch.
Crowb had a good run while it lasted, but this video is embarrassing.
Yeah weird people got nostalgic for when actual games came out for their $400 boxes
Boomer here. That generation had way more good games than the last one. But it also had a lot of cancerous practices bogging down some great games and developers. Overall, it was great, but not better than the previous ones. Also, it was the last time games actually felt "next gen"
>Also, it was the last time games actually felt "next gen"
I know right, when I first booted up GTA4 on the 360, my mind was blown.
i had the "next gen" feeling when i first started up desr at launch but that was all because of the controller and not the console itself. the last time an actual console blew me away with what it was capable of was the Dreamcast but i was heavily into the pc gaming scene right after the Dreamcast so yeah.
The 360/PS3 Era was pretty grim all around.
Since when was this ever called worst gen???? I'm surprised
since snoys wanted nothing to do with daddy kutaragi and his filthy nippon influence
PS3 might be the most weeb console Sony ever released
RROD and wagglan. SixAxis might actually be the worst PS controller, but at this point it really is just nitpicks
It probably is overall.
2004/5-2013 is a pretty grim age for video games.
>all those fricking broken ass shitty PC ports from 06-14
frick console tards
This is what I'm talking about, lmao.
PCgays complain no matter what. This is the gen where PC players were so ass devastated it's unbelievable. I don't believe it was the best gen, but console players enjoyed this era while the "master race" was whining.
>turn off DX11 (back in the day, any mid PC nowadays can bruteforce pretty much any game from that era)
>plug in a control
>MY FORD PINTO NEVER BLEW UP!
Yes, my 360 never failed me and still works to this very day. Sounds like you were just unlucky.
It never blew up because the jackass tailgating you was somehow good enough not to rear-end you and rupture the fueltank.
>Gen 6
>worst gen when 7 and 8 exist
This is being contrarian because you're bored no one is actually that moronic
>B-b-b-but BROWN N' GRAY GLOOM N BLOOM!!!
You Black folk are utterly incapable of forming an original or independent opinion or thought, lmfao.
Great gen If you loved CoD/Gears shooters and Wii party shit. Terrible for everything else!
>zoomer loses it and goes into shitpost mode after being refuted the entire thread
love to see it, can't wait to see you guys in the next (You) farm thread
it was the beginning of the end but it wasn't the end
HOW is the 360 worse than what came after? If ANYTHING, it's the last GOOD Xbox.
eat a dick
We were eating good before Kinect.
yeah sony was going the same way with move
knee jerk reaction to wii selling millions to grandmas who then bought no games aside from wiifit
>it's the worst gen because it's the only gen where we got btfo
I know for a fact that every single person who posts this shit is a snoy. 8th gen is so much fricking worse and 9th is an absolute fricking disaster
But Xbox has lost every generation, Xbotkun
>Snoy can't even face the reality that Wii AND 360 were superior
I didn't say anything about the xbox snoytroony, but keep pretending the wii never existed and outselling the 360 after the gen already ended counts as a victory lmfao
yeah, nostalgia for a time when games were more than just season pass skimmerboxes designed to hook you up to their games as if they were your fricking life support. the problems of this generation are quaint in comparison to the most minor issues of today's video games and you would have to be such an unobservant or contrarian prick to say otherwise.
it's what the late 90s-mid 00s was for music. it was shit but fun and nostalgic
That's a surprisingly good comparison.
>it's what the late 90s-mid 00s was for music
You sound like a legit 70 year old man, I'm almost 40 but 90s-00s was quite amazing for music.
Deftones, Linkin Park BRMC, Raveonettes, Boxer Rebellion, Electric Six, I could go on.
none of those will be remembered or will in anyway compare with the great rock music of the 70s or even early 90s. it's just gay angsy teen ow the edgehog shit
>t. 80 year old man wishing he was young again
You say this, but the bands you'd list have time on their side. You probably had morons thinking AC/DC and Aerosmith weren't going to be remembered either. Imagine thinking out of that short list that anon posted that Linkin Park won't be remembered.
7th gen has the highest peaks of any gen but the worst "average" games.
Video games peaked in 2004
it peaked in gen 4 and 6-early 7th
Had it not been for the Red Ring of Death, the Xbox 360 in my opinion is the greatest console of all time.
What it did for online gaming for consoles was truly revolutionary for its time. The app service integration such as Netflix that allowed 4 people watching on 1 person's account was ahead of its time.... even today.
Up to 8 player party chats, and easy to use interfaces. It changed the way we view our entertainment box in our living rooms forever.
have a nice day, zoomer
Absolutely based, don't forget Demos / XBLA Game Trials vs where they are now. It was also the best gen for 3rd party games, PS3 is underrated just because it shared all of those games 360 had.
PS360 > PS4 > N64 > PS2 > Switch
Pre-2010 people didn't discuss "best gens" because all gens were fricking awesome.
Post-2010 the movie game shitstorm began, split the gamer-scape into two, and talk of "best gen" began
