Good. It's a genre of games that is pointless in this day and age and should rightfully die off completely and become obsolete. the less these predatory games suck up and ruin peoples lives, the better.

Good. Positive interactions with other players are inherently impossible and all interaction between human players should be minimized.

based. MMOs and live service trash should collectively get fricked. all of them are predatory and a massive time sink, and the playerbases are full of leeching homosexuals thinking they're entitled to everyone else's time or no life third worlders demanding that every game is designed around a play schedule of 14 hours a day
the only reason i still play some of these anymore is because i effectively treat them as single player games with extensive character creators. it's a shame that fully single player games usually don't come with good CC

At first it looks like a sarcastic post, but why is it actually so true? If we take PVE, 90% of the players don't want to lead raids. And when they get into a raid and someone does one mistake, they complain and leave. In PVP it's the same thing: everyone wants a clearing filled with slightly less skilled opponents so they can hop around and slaughter them endlessly. If there is a couple of super-high skilled teams on a server, then "pvp is dead, I am quitting".

As someone who has played all the great MMORPG’s dating back to the mid 90’s, it pains me that this is the case.

    UO
    EQ
    Lineage
    Asherons Call
    SWG
    Anarchy Online
    Shadowbane
    Ragnarok…

All dead or dying shells of their former glory. They keep saying the next big one will revive the genre, but it just ends up being a mismanaged p2w piece of shot every time.

That is the one and only MMO I ever played. My whole friend group and I were completely addicted and I saw how it was ruining our lives. I quit after about six months, some of them played for years and a few moved on to WoW which wrecked them- one failed out of college, one became a NEET... sad times. Frick the whole genre.

A good MMORPG honestly shouldn't even have PvP outside of optional stuff like dedicated battlegrounds though.
Open world PvP is an idea that's constantly touted as holy gospel by supposed MMORPG lovers but it never works well nowadays. There's about 50 different ways that someone could end up disliking it for every reason someone could actually like it.

              >no-one will be your prey to rape and torture you disgusting subhuman
open twitch right now. ALL popular games there are PvP based. battle royale, as shit as that genre is, is literally about killing people and looting their body (sort of like a sandbox mmorpg when you think about it *wink* *wink*). no one cares about your weird qualms. moronic b***hy people like you are a really really really small minority, yet you all seem to think otherwise because when your character dies something feels bad in your heart, so other people must be the same???? awww! that's so so cute.

NTA but the issue seems to be that these players are trying to do something else and then getting stuck in PvP. You play a battle royale and you know what you're getting, and in some cases like Fortnite there are a lot of modes outside the main one for people who want a break from that. I'd compare it more to Fromsoft PvP, something contentious enough that Seamless Co-Op split the community in half since it doesn't have PvP and a ton of people use it

I know the term "carebear" was extensively used in EVE Online, a PVP-centric MMO. I don't know where it came from, but I bet it's something like Ultima Online, a very dangerous game. If the essence of the game is to fight other players, why would you try something else? Of course, PVP baddies didn't like it and came up with the insult.
In Wolrd of Warcraft, open pvp and ganking is shunned upon, so "carebear" is not used.

Imagine EVE Online without carebears, whales and drama queens (I haven't met a single groomer there). You enter a big system but everyone either logs out or kills you on the spot. Every PVP fight is decided by numbers, pumped by multiacc-using sweats. Only multiacc exploiters are left in the game because you have barred the carebears out.
      >i find it funny how devs refuse to explore horizontal progression
It won't solve everything. Look at Terraria, WoW SoD, Path of Exile with its tons of league mechanics and any other game with side activities (FFXIV maybe?). If you do things that don't have impactful reward, then these things are considered a waste of time. I think the best way to play your MMO is to raise the skill ceiling: Aion, WoW, EVE, Dota 2 and some other games where discrepancy between a noob and a pro is massive are still being played and enjoyed despite being flawed in other areas.

I believe the genre is revivable but people need to understand classes should be completely unique.
I.E Tank should have stances and parry to be like Mordhau or For Honor gameplay is damage mitigation.
Dps is souls like but getting hit just destroys your poise, frick up too badly you freeze open to lethal critical.
Healing should be a rythem game taking beats from the battle pacing. Could be pattapon like just responding to different noises / bgm songs that give environmental protection. Loot degrades / crafting trade economy focused around unteleportable resources. Blessings of teleportation and revives is by choosing a gods protection. Make choices that conform allegiances and quests to encourage PvP between factions. Reward PvP + base stashing + selling mechanics. 'open world extraction system'.
Make town's have politics due to nobles / trades and include infiltration + mandatory events that need to be protected. Archery and magic need a fun mechanic as well. Magic I could see reciting memorised elemental combos for advamced magic. Skill base game requiring degree of intelligence / memory. Archery being FPS isn't enough its too easy of a class and range is always too much of a bonus.
