Some retro games have official speedrunning modes. It's called "Time Attack".
Time attack is just a tight timer though.
Now in some games it works so that time is effectively your high score and the lower it gets, the higher you place in the ranking.

Unless you're speedrunning them as a first time player, which can't be done since it would be impossible to prove, it's only really interesting when there's clever tricks or previously unknown ways - usually for low score - to finish the game. But you don't really need speedrunning for that. You're mostly just showing off how fast you can click a mouse and might as well just play competitive Starcraft instead.
Get on HRT and start speedrunning them, then.
