I regret growing up with PS1 and PS2 instead of N64 and GCN. The problem was that Nintendo was late to the party in Europe and N64 was more expensive.
nah dude, i skipped from SNES and PS1 directly to GCN and a PS2 years later. playstation had so much for detritus to keep you entertained whereas a kid subsisting on birthmas games could get royally fricked over by one bad choice of Gamecube game and after the classics there literally aint shit on there- not to mention those classics dropped to pennies on PS2 and remained 20.00+ for decades, so your kidmoney could buy you alot more PS titles

How is getting "royally fricked over by one bad choice" more likely to happen on the console with significantly less shovelware garbage? I'm also confused as to why you're using the standard N64 complaint regarding library size in reference to the Gamecube, which had a library that was the same size as the Xbox's. The PS2 had a massive library but you were much more likely to get some random schlock as a gift if you had one, whereas generally kids with the Gamecube would get a Nintendo game.
Honestly the bigger issue with the Gamecube is that some multiplatform versions were cut back due to storage limitations. For example the latter Call of Duty games were missing the splitscreen multiplayer mode on the system.

I'd like to know this too. The only mistake I made on the cube was getting rampage because I liked the other rampage games, but the rest of my birthmas games were stellar and there were still games that I missed out on because the cube had so many good games. Spoiled zoomer brats who get a new game on a monthly basis will never understand.
because while it might be shovelware garbage to you now, getting something like Drakengard or Kengo or Way of The Samurai or Dynasty Warriors on a whim is going to give you alot more of a sense for what games you like and alot longer playtime than if you got fricking Doshin the Giant or Billy Hatcher
2-3 games a year until you start scamming life for gamesmonie and then you have to start seriously fretting over if the next game youre going to get is going to be good. by the time i wanted to buy smash i looked in the store and it was 25.00. i bought Hitman 2, Viewtiful Joe, NFS Most Wanted, Virtua Fighter 4 and Resident Evil 4 with that amount of money in the very same visit.
with the power of hindsight its different but the context of the thread is specifically youth bimbeogames so from "cant do basic math" all the way up to "why do i even need a car" age. I was bought a PS2 by a man and he got me MGS3 and Warrior Within with it. I might be leaning on bias for the PS2 library but there were alot more and better games exlusive to Ps2 compared to Wind Waker, Jedi Knight 2, Spider Man 2 etc i had on GC.

Pretty much everyone who chose GC over PS2 regret it. Don't get me wrong, they had solid library. It's just that PS1 and 2 had gorillion of fun games. I feel like i could go to local game store every month and always find a new hidden gem.

nah I had a GC over a ps2 and it was great
all my friends had ps2's, so every time I went places I got to play new games, but it also meant everyone was super excited to play the random shit I had for GC, and was very happy to play party games on it as well, since they were new to them
even after the ps3 had released and I was a teenager, it was still nice to play mario party, mario kart, and smash on the GC, regularly I would bring it LANs with my friends (upon request) or we would play it a bunch when we would LAN at my place
do I think I might have also had a great time with the ps2? for sure, it had a lot of great games, but I don't regret it.
I remember being like 15-16 and going back and emulating a bunch of the ps1 games I was too young to really "get" and after I played through a bunch of them, I emulated ps2 games, since it was possible at that point, so I got to play them in the end, and now I just get whatever system I want.

That was such a good era for game buying in general. You had the PS2 with its backwards compatibility allowing you to enjoy the whole PS1 library along with its "Greatest Hits" sales letting you pick up some serious gems for like 20 bucks, AND the whole thing doubled as a DVD player and general home entertainment device so you really got a lot out of it. Meanwhile, the gamecube had so many fricking S-tier hits on it as well, and they'd hit "Players Choice" status which was similar to PS2's "Greatest Hits" so they'd get cheaper too. I owned both and had so much fricking fun back then. Pic related, notbecause of Crash but just to show how the consoles basically agreed that a game was so fricking good and had been out for so long that it was fine to just sell it for a bargain. I miss those days. My first Final Fantasy game was 10, and I got it for 20 dollars. Got kingdom hearts for cheap too.
