I hate it because it's linear, has no difficulty, the graphics are objectively ugly because they couldn't animate or scale the sprites in a non-lazy way, it pointlessly removed features such as secret bases, ribbons, contests, auto-running, following Pokemon, a bottom screen that isn't useless 99% of the time, and it's obvious the whole fricking gen was rushed based on garbage like the dream world where they couldn't even finish implementing everything into the actual game and the difficulty modes which didn't even work and the characters that barely got any development like most of Team Plasma, sleep and sky drop being broken, the poorly thought out low HP music, and BW2 not even having the original dragon or the MC from the first game. It's the point of the series that was the most stagnated and you can tell when the best ideas they had was "doubles but more gimmicky" and "abilities but there's a THIRD one this time and it breaks the balance of the game" The handholding in this gen was the worst too, both BW and especially BW2 make it feel like there's zero agency and the whole campaign is just mashing A through dialogue and tutorials while being funneled through the single direction you're forced to go because NPCs are blocking every other direction.
Overall just fricking boring games that don't do a single thing that isn't done better in another gen.

Regardless of my personal feelings, Gen 5 looks bad. The sprites are scaled inconsistently for no reason except laziness and the animations are badly tweened and distorted for no reason except laziness and the battle backgrounds are generic grey voids for no reason except laziness.

False, I just hate the fanbase that called it the GOAT and then I played it and it was just formulaic and unoriginal. I like the Pokemon formula so I didn't dislike it but it doesn't stand out from the rest in any way.

I never hated it, I was pretty much indifferent to it when it came out. I remember being really disappointed at the region itself, basically just being a circle was a real step back from the more complex regions in gen3-4 and the setting didn't draw me in enough to make up for it. I also never fell in love with the story, I know some people liked it but I thought there were way too many cutscenes and it just took itself too seriously for a Pokemon game. Those things have only gotten worse in subsequent generations, so I look back at unova a lot more fondly in retrospect. I still think those things weigh it down but I'm just happy to play a good 2d Pokemon with lots of content so whatever. I didn't really appreciate that at the time.
