They really aren't, it took a sequel type deal for them to not be the most forgotten non-spinoff/remake titles in the series. I'd say they're more fondly remembered than SWSH but that's more because XY is so forgettable no one can hold a strong opinion about it vs SWSH which is outright despised.
It's just the nature of this fandom. "Two generations ago was peak" has been the rule since Gen 3 was released.
Hope you're all ready for Sword/Shield nostalgia in a few years.
I'm not ready and I hate that I can guess which points will be praised >Ahaha Leon and Hop are so quirky, the character have so much personality, love Bede and Marnie! >soccer is SOVL, the starters have cool designs >Open areas, dens and camping are a nice breather from the routes and competitions >So much choice in teambuilding >Dynamax and gigantamax makes gym battle hype and memorable >Doggos
I feel we will get another DP and platinum discourse on this one, with the caveat that Sun and Moon have a slightly different story, that IMHO works better for Lusamine character.
But gen 7 tried new thing and had somecool bits, such as battle royale and mantine surf
I feel like this statement is only true for Gen5.
The only people who didn't grow up with it that praise it are butthurt millennials that pretend they didn't hate the hell out of BW when it came out just because they feel personally betrayed by anything post-Gen6, and especially by SwSh.
Praising of Gen5 peaked after the severe dispapointment in SwSh and SV, not a coincidence.
I only look fondly upon their mechanics. The games were bad and are still bad-- they didn't magically become good just because everything from Sun/Moon onwards has just stripped more and more from the series. >Full National Dex >Triples and Rotation battles >Good online play >Fast and snappy menus >PC that didn't lag to hell and back >Minigames that were engaging like Amie and Super Training >Actual QOL
These were considered the bare minimum back then. That's what XY were, the bare minimum. All the games after ORAS did were less than that but it's still independent of whether or not the rest of the game is good.
You can't help but miss the time before gimmicks that XY relished in. If something was added to the game, it was always a legitimate addition to the formula that could be iterated upon later. Mega Evolutions were the last bastion of GameFreak deciding to add something that wouldn't be mutually exclusive with some other identical feature later.
>invents complaint no one ever made >says his boogeyman made the dumb argument >HAHA LOOK THEY'RE SO STUPID LMAO
This is an obvious "I can't defend fuhrer Kaalos" post.

Its shills haven't stopped acting deranged so it's clearly still an uphill battle.
They always were.
delete this, you can't just revise our revisionist history

Because Kaloskiddies are old enough to shitpost on the internet now
Can't wait for Gen 7 to be looked upon fondly.

considering how shit the switch games have been so far yeah
Only for what could have been.
Nobody gives a shit about X/Y aside from the zoomers that started playing Pokemon with these.

*disappointment
Nobody gives a shit about [insert random Gen here] aside from the zoomers that started playing Pokemon with these.
Nope. They were shit on release and are still shit. Just because the three gens after them were worse, doesn't make them good.
I only look fondly upon their mechanics. The games were bad and are still bad-- they didn't magically become good just because everything from Sun/Moon onwards has just stripped more and more from the series.

Then why are they better than most of the games before them?

I actually play the games instead of pretending to play the games, so no, I don’t actually miss that.
that’s what happens when the game has no actual problems people can reference beyond
>durrr kanto pokemon are in the game and it triggers my jealousy
