No, no they werent
They literally made people stop playing Final Fantasy because some guy wanted to push his waifu as the main character
Lighting was perfectly fine as a Final Fantasy protag until they started doing the sequels
No
Toriyamas design of the crystal tools engine also cucked Versus XIIIs development cause it couldnt be used for action or exploration
>because some guy wanted to push his waifu as the main character
lightning is fricking great
but the games she is in are trash.
Lightning gets points for punching Snow in the face. But that’s about it. She spends the entirety of the first act acting like the fan version of aloof Cloud, and the last half going along with whatever bullshit everyone else is doing. None of which make sense.
she is just sexy man i just said the games she is in ar trash, including plot.
No
No. The battle systems were okay, but the characters were almost all varying shades of insufferable shitc**ts, the stories were meh, they were unforgivably linear, literal hallways, and there was an unskippable 30hr tutorial at the start of the first one, turned me off the series
Still mad they didn't use the uncompressed video from the blu-ray on PC
Some guy listed how he tried 8, then 13, then 15 and gave up on final fantasy in a previous shitter thread. I love 8, but it’s not the easiest to get into with all its unique issues.
13 and 15 damaged the brand almost beyond repair. The only reason squenix is left standing is because of 14 and its loyal paypigs. I will never forgive 13 and it’s shit sequels for almost killing off one of my favorite series, and for square Enix to so blatantly go against what consumers want.
Based moron. The 13 trilogy sold a lot and the last 2 games obviously sold less but they were extremely cheap to make.
>selling well means it’s good moron
You know what else sells well? Cigarettes, maga lies, assassin creed games, and showing your bewbs while playing vidya poorly on streams. Does that make these things suddenly good cause they make money? No.
>He doesn't like chicks playing video games with their breasts out
I can fricking smell you through the monitor. You have a shitty outlook on life and only focus on the negatives. I hope things get better for you soon, brother.
All 3 were great.
this was the point when square decided that they would solely concentrate on boring as frick game with the most atrocious pacing imaginable.
>follow walkthrough
>first paragraph says to skip all encounters because you don’t gain any xp and it’s a huge waste of time
>full gameplay doesn’t get unlocked until almost the final boss
>hunts are back and unlock kino 12 hunts, these make you talk to a terminal and backtrack 2-3 times across the giant map
Such a piece of shit game, I do not understand how people can say it’s good. If they said “it’s a game with flaws but I really like it” that would be fine, it’s what I do with 8.
But no, they insist, create posts, write entire articles about how great the games are. They are not. They are fundamentally flawed garbage and it’s okay if you like them. It’s not okay to tell the rest of us we are wrong for hating them for being poorly designed trash ribbet
No
It was pretty good but it’s a game I never want to replay again, if that makes sense
well yeah the 20 hour tutorial meme isn't just a meme. Its a shame nobody ever tired to do some sorta hardtype for it
i enjoyed the trilogy.
XV being so bad made me go "you know, the XIII games aren't that bad"
XIII had:
Gameplay that was more than one button crap
Getting to 0 HP actually meant a game over (vs item use in XV)
A story that was told entirely in the game + datalog (vs the anime, movie, DLCs and novels for XV)
Memorable cast
they were so good that people stopped caring about final fantasy for almost 15 years
WRONG
they were fantastic
because I was 14 when I played them
FFXIII isn't awful, but it destroyed the precious illusion that previous games maintained, which is that you're on an adventure and not just being dragged along by a leash. It needed a lot more distractions, not just
>run
>combat
>cutscene
>repeat
Even FFX had npcs that would give worldbuilding, blitzball, temple trials, minigames, etc. I think FFXIII has one mini-game in the entire game, where Hope controls a mech. It comes out of nowhere, stops, then the game goes back to the main loop like nothing happened.
The story also has a ton of issues. It's poorly paced, often unsatisfying, and makes you annoyed at the characters. The entire plot of the game is basically that the protagonists are being manipulated by the villain, and even when the villain TELLS them they're being manipulated they keep going anyways, and then suddenly at the end there's a deus ex machina and everything works out. Sloppy.
This is what happens when you grow up playing mostly shit like zoomies did. You can't differentiate good from bad anymore. All you see are pretty graphics, some decent music, OMG GOTY!! FF13 is objectively garbage. Characters are trash. Story is trash. Level design is trash. Combat is trash.
so good they destroyed the reputation of FF for the following decade
Why the frick are zoomers trying to meme this game into being good? No, FFXIII was not "good actually". This game fricking sucked and hurt the FF brand for years and has yet to fully recover from. Just admit a game you like is shit.
No. Everyone with standards knew that at the second chapter the game was already a piece of garbage in the map design. Gameplay and graphics were pretty good, but that's it. 13 showed me that replaying some old games might not be a good idea and that's one of the reasons I won't replay 10. Corridors were a thing back them, not anymore.
13 sucked ass. Don't know about the sequels because I never played them.
I played the through the first one a couple of years ago while I was homebound with Covid, and found the game strangely comfy. A few months later I tried the second one but had just broken up with my gf, so I was too depressed to finish it. Never touched the third game because I watched some gameplay videos and was very much turned off by the time limit thing.
the time limit isn't that bad (unlike in games like Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter), besides you can do a day 1 warp thing and keep your stuff in LR
