The actual answer is that Final Fantasy is just a dumpster fire, open/overworld or otherwise. There's no purpose for even controlling the characters. There's no challenge or creative reason for the player to even factor in. The franchise is the definitive moviegame, and it can't even get the "movie" aspects right most of the time.

Hard to entirely tell if it's there. A lot of shots that give a chance of seeing it. Your screenshot is the most convincing so far though. I assume that nobody's extracted the 3d model? Are the cutscenes live?
