as for the sinnoh starters, torterra is cool. the others are good but not in a way that merits any discussion. they're something you look at and think "hey, that's a pretty good design," and they are, but there's not much else to say about them.
homie, the Sinnoh trio is literally the best overal trio, and likely won't ever be beaten. Only Infernape isn't a solid 10/10 design, and even then, it's still very cool and I can see the appeal.

Yeah, they’re by far the most unremarkable starters. Don’t have the nostalgia value of gen 1-2 or the hilariously low quality of gen 5’s starters. All three of them are just overdesigned animals accessories tacked on.

Well they were wrong. Sceptile is the worst grass starter I've ever played with.
Sceptile's worse than Grovyle design-wise but Blaziken and Swampert are both great so I think that makes up for it.

Torterra is a great design for pairing up with other Pokemon but not that standout as a startermon because it relies on other mons to be cool.
The rest are all mediocre to garbage.

These are easily the second most iconic and popular starters after the gen 1 starters. Gen 4 is when starter design peaked IMO, all 3 lines have good first, middle, and final stage designs.

The only thing I remember about Chimchar was being a Gohan knockoff in the DiaPer anime
Piplup but none of its evolutions, are the only non-shit non-ugly-ass starters from that gen. Turtwig and all its evos belong on a short bus, alongside pipilup's evolutions, and the fire monkey is a direct ripoff of Sun Wukong. It's in the same boat as the James Bond rip; Inteleon. Easily one of the worst, forgettable starter trios.

If there is one pokémon that definitely looks like a fakemon, that would be Tepig. It's not ugly but it is aggressively uninspired, even "just a pig but cartoony" would have been better.
