No, but it's still pretty mediocre, especially given that HL2 and (imo) Far Cry released the same year and FEAR was released just a year later.

Its literally that bad, you walk around and shoot like one jobber demon at a time over and over again. Game is shit and always was, same with Doom 1/2 though. Nudoom is the only good doom.
Nudoom is the videogame equivalent of jingling keys in front of the player's face and you fell for it.
Old doom is at best a shitty first person bullet hell game, which the second you play a real bullet hell game will make you realize why first person is shit for anything besides aiming, which old doom aims for you anyways defeating the purpose of first person. Doom 3 is just flat out shit, there is nothing good about that game and it deserves every insult it gets.

You can't mod a shit game into a good one, Fallout already proved that.
Doom is much more moddable than Fallout and the Elder Scrolls combined, you had Total conversions like Simpsons Doom, Silly Wars, Sirens Doom and Hellraiser Doom. As well as countless user made levels and megawads. The best thing is you could combine a Total Conversion and play those wads in the style of the TCs. The source code was released so you had so many source ports like Zdoom, Gzdoom, SkullTag etc. Plus you also had whole new monsters from countless games being added. Fallout and Elder Scrolls wish they could have that level of modablity, Zoomer Doom has no mods at all.
Doom always plays like doom, even brand new gzdoom games still play like doom. Over 2 decades to mod it into a good game old man, yet its still never happened.
At least you could mod and people still have been modding it for almost 30 years. NU-Doom will never be moddable and will never produce the level of creativity that old Doom did.
I've already learned that if modders had any talent worth caring about they would just make actual games instead. Modders had 20 years to produce their own Eternal and yet never did, meanwhile id broken open the flood gates with 2016 and then revolutionized fps design 4 years later. Now modders do as they always did, copy from actual devs and then screech about "creativity" despite being nothing but copycats who lack talent.

You can’t mod the nu-doom, there is no source code release for nu-doom, there is no total conversions like Simpsons Doom for nu-doom and you can’t even make your own levels for nu-doom with something like Doom Builder. Why would anybody want this? It betrays the very sprit of Doom.

There is one thing I didnt get about the new doom games. In the lore the Demons literally ran from you but in game a lonly imp will hunt and fight you. I know lore isnt important in Doom games but that seemed like a big plot hole.

I wish they had used Quake's name instead of Doom, quake boomers like going fast, swapping fast, and aiming good. At least a whole new ip would have been good too.
Doom boomers are more interested in lore, how many useless jobbers you can fit on the screen at once, collecting blue/red/yellow dildos, and how many times the map will spawn hitscanners after you press a switch.

You can use lock on rockets, chain gun, destroyer blade, etc if you don't like dps swapping. Either way you are swapping a lot to use the best tools for the job, which doom doesn't do since all you do in that game is just hold down m1 ssg, or in slaughter wads hold down m1 rockets/bfg depending on your ammo count.
