No, the point here is that 99% of people buy media on whatever is most convenient, and the 1% that care about physical media will always go to great lengths to preserve it. That's always going to be true and the essence is basically about how easy or difficult will publishers make it for physical/historical enthusiasts to keep local copies and what kind of market will sprout up to support physical media enthusiasts in games.
You cannot realistically expect average Joe consumers to give a shit about the prospect of physical vs digital. And holding back the way media is distributed to being purely physical is a luddite response to the problem (and at best a stopgap since most physical media still decay with use over time).
The basic question is not about making sure everyone uses physical forever, that's just not going to happen, in the same way you couldn't stop mass-media from wiping out the small-town Opera industry. it's a bit different because vinyl players are universal, i'm not sure what physical media enthusiasts are going to be able to do if consoles don't have disc drives at all, otherwise i'd assume physical would be done like how limited run games does things now. maybe the disc drives would be an optional thing like the PS5 slim is currently doing and that'd enable that.
beyond that, you're right that the market is going to respond to what people want. the convenience of digital is hard to beat after all. but digital only got as big as it currently is because of how cheap it was in comparison, at least for games. steam was built on that, steam sales are still hyped up even though they suck now because steam sales used to be insane to get people used to buying digitally. sony packed in discount codes with ps4s to get people to buy their games digitally, it was 20% of your order or something like that iirc. even nintendo has the voucher system going on that make people want to buy digital instead of physical with discounts. we've actually come full circle though and physical copies of games end up being cheaper more often than not now because they're starting to rot on shelves.
but at the same time, gp(and ps+) hasten the death of physical and even deter people from buying digital games. i would be shocked if xbox has physical at all next gen. sony might have it but i could see them wanting to drop it too if microsoft does. nintendo should have physical games on the switch 2, honestly it's hard to see nintendo dropping physical when they can release limited edition games like super mario 3d all stars and have them make millions for a rom pack. it'll be interesting to see what publishers do with that though, they could ignore physical even when it's an option which already happens now sometimes.

Correct it's the projected costs for those games being added to GP. However part of those projected costs is paying them based on how often subscribers engage with the game. Upwards of $150 mil in the case of Suicide Squad, that's not an insignificant number. So the issue is now there for day 1 GP games where their design can be compromised in order to extract more money out of a deal with Microsoft. You see why that's a concern, right? Because the free market doesn't dictate anything there, you can't vote with your wallet because Microsoft is using their wallet to buy the games for everyone instead. Xbox is in the 3rd party business model, and that means they want to be your primary platform for all your 3rd party game purchases (same as Playstation). steam keys in boxes instead of cds wasn't a thing until the mid 10's. on pc you are also not locked to a single storefront and piracy exists. consoles will always be different because you are forced to use their store to make any purchases when it's digital only. on steam there's still competitors like gog, egs, etc. some companies like square enix also sell you codes directly on their website for games like ff14 which then runs without steam as "drm".

No, the point here is that 99% of people buy media on whatever is most convenient, and the 1% that care about physical media will always go to great lengths to preserve it. That's always going to be true and the essence is basically about how easy or difficult will publishers make it for physical/historical enthusiasts to keep local copies and what kind of market will sprout up to support physical media enthusiasts in games.
You cannot realistically expect average Joe consumers to give a shit about the prospect of physical vs digital. And holding back the way media is distributed to being purely physical is a luddite response to the problem (and at best a stopgap since most physical media still decay with use over time).
The basic question is not about making sure everyone uses physical forever, that's just not going to happen, in the same way you couldn't stop mass-media from wiping out the small-town Opera industry. The question is what the Physical-Media enthusiasts can do to drum up support and organization around getting publishers to let them store games in physical format after some time after release for posterity.

it's a bit different because vinyl players are universal, i'm not sure what physical media enthusiasts are going to be able to do if consoles don't have disc drives at all, otherwise i'd assume physical would be done like how limited run games does things now. maybe the disc drives would be an optional thing like the PS5 slim is currently doing and that'd enable that.
beyond that, you're right that the market is going to respond to what people want. the convenience of digital is hard to beat after all. but digital only got as big as it currently is because of how cheap it was in comparison, at least for games. steam was built on that, steam sales are still hyped up even though they suck now because steam sales used to be insane to get people used to buying digitally. sony packed in discount codes with ps4s to get people to buy their games digitally, it was 20% of your order or something like that iirc. even nintendo has the voucher system going on that make people want to buy digital instead of physical with discounts. we've actually come full circle though and physical copies of games end up being cheaper more often than not now because they're starting to rot on shelves.

Those games arent even on gamepass, it's just an analysis on how much to offer devs if they choose to have the games on gamepass day 1 and how much playtime they expect to get for their investments. It's nothing more to it than a cost/benefit list of their money.
Correct it's the projected costs for those games being added to GP. However part of those projected costs is paying them based on how often subscribers engage with the game. Upwards of $150 mil in the case of Suicide Squad, that's not an insignificant number. So the issue is now there for day 1 GP games where their design can be compromised in order to extract more money out of a deal with Microsoft. You see why that's a concern, right? Because the free market doesn't dictate anything there, you can't vote with your wallet because Microsoft is using their wallet to buy the games for everyone instead. In this scenario the amount of money you save with GP is offset by the fact your time is being wasted with games like Starfield. It's similar to how shit games like GT7 have grind walls to try to get people to pay to get through. You have to pick if you're wasting your money or your time.

The big deal is that Nintendo is a games company, top to bottom. They exist to make consoles and to make games for their console. They lack the size and leverage to push hard for cheap hardware parts or to loss-lead by selling consoles under cost. So without being a major-3rd-party-friendly platform under the hood, they have to create all the most attractive software for their own platform (a bit like Apple and their built-in suites for creatives).
Xbox is in the 3rd party business model, and that means they want to be your primary platform for all your 3rd party game purchases (same as Playstation). And if you're entrenched in the Playstation ecosystem from last gen and bringing your whole library forward, then you're not likely to start using Xbox for 90% of your spend, even if you own an Xbox along with your PS4/5
