I trained Grizzly and Steroid up to >80% Agility and Dexterity and they’re both still slow as shit. Maybe some characters have hard caps?
On the other hand making sure your dudes get R&R helps keep morale high or very high, which gives bonus AP even for those wearing heavy armour.
Steroid I have turned into a taxi service and trainer after getting his Leadership up. He’s my solo merc scavenging shit and bringing it to frontline teams, and taking on militia training so frontline teams aren’t wasted fricking around with that.
I stick a MG on grizzly so he spends a lot of time curled up like a turtle handing out kamehamehas, when he does need to relocate his skill is useful. He is still slower like you say though.
I've found that stats have less dramatic impact on merc ability than in the previous games. It seems like no matter what your agility level, a given merc will take on average 1-2 shots/actions per turn without factoring bonus move. When you include bonus move, this lets you dedicate all AP to actions while still being able to move a good distance, and also allows you to cover a lot of distance if you need to. A 90+ agility merc feels way slower than a ~70 agility merc with bonus move skills.
YOOOWWL-AAUUUGGH! GOOO, GET TO DAH CHOPPAAA!! >*bizarre Arnie noises intensify*
>obvious Arnie reference >he speaks with german accent >occasionally adds in "ja" or other german words
Why did they feel the need to make him a pole again?
He was Polish in JA2, they just continue the tradition. Although in JA2, he didn't sound much like Arnie, IIRC, he just nicked some lines from him. In JA3 they just went "frick it" and gave him the Ahnold accent.
I want to give JA3 a go but am waiting for a couple of updates more.
It seems markedly better than the other games that were released between this and JA2 but needs more polishing.
She is a terrible girlfriend, running off on her relationship and civilian medical practice to try and get some mercenary tail again.
She's also clearly pissy because Fox has no interest in fricking her (REEEEEEEEEEEEEE).
>fricking commies are your allies
Please tell me they betray you halfway through the game or something and you'll get to wipe them the frick out.
I can't suffer these red bastards.
I handed out commie flyers and helped The Cause until Chimurenga decided to give up on the revolution and now those commie dipshits work for me for free.
Just like communism always rolls out… the proles work for crumbs and the people at the top make fat stacks
>Just like communism always rolls out… the proles work for crumbs and the people at the top make fat stacks
Funnily enough it's exactly the same with capitalism. Almost as if the game was rigged from the start.
Just hit the world flip event and hooooly shit there’s some good loot to be had once you smash the red wave.
My teams are all packing HK21s, Galils, and Dragunovs now, as well as a mortar, the rotary grenade launcher and a few other cool toys.
Welp the mortar is shit and the MGL loses 16% condition per shot when firing 40mm HE so I’m not very impressed.
The HK21’s are nice, though, I’ll be keeping them.
I have Barry with the mortar and MGL for his explosives skill, Meltdown and Grizzly are on the HK’s. I can do all right with just AR launchers I think.
>This is a multiple grenade launcher >It has a six shot magazine >but needs 12 hours of maintenance after firing only four shots
What the FRICK was Haemimont thinking?
They have issues when it comes to trying to balance things.
The worse issue is they have so many times where they have unique NPCs you don't want to die fight alongside you... but friendly AI in this game is absolutely moronic.
You’d think the balance in the forty Mike Mike HE’s would be their rarity.
The balance in the mortars is the rarity of the shells and the amazingly shit damage output (assuming you can actually hit anything with them in the first place)
I was expecting it from the very begining, but daaaamn, I wasn't expecting it to go THIS hard.
On unrelated note, is the date of N-Night dependent on when you discover it and the game always gives you 7 days, or is it fixed and you can be late to the party? For me it was 7 june
Best attachments options?
I'm having good results with UVdot, scope x10 and heavy stock for long range snipers. (For whatever reason none of my 70+ mechanics cannot add a bipod to that m24.)
Shorter range, mobile sneaky snipers get ACOG, silencer, heavy stock and tac device.
Any good builds for SMGs? I'm still trying to make them work.
I saw this game randomly on steam and it actually looked kind of ok so I pirated it and actually it's pretty fricking good
are they actually working on this still/improving it? feels like the game needs an expansion pack to fix some of its issues
so far my biggest complaint is the reddit tier cringe dialogue/writing, I get its supposed to be lighthearted and funny but its not it usually just feels moronic
They've just released a first major patch and there is a console version in the way. The game turned out to be very successful, so I will eat my hat if the devs are not planning a DLC.
As for the writing - that's Jagged Alliance for ya. That series was never very serious in the first place.
>That series was never very serious in the first place. >opening scene in JA2 where tanks mow down civilians >Cutting off heads of terrorists for bounty >Death prison in the middle of the desert >Hospital level
Id say that JA2 was 70% serious / 30% satire while JA3 is the opposite
When you play it young it might seem serious but anon is probably seeing it through nostalgia glasses, like FO2 even the most tragic stories are still charged with dry humor and ridiculousness.
>so far my biggest complaint is the reddit tier cringe dialogue/writing, I get its supposed to be lighthearted and funny but its not it usually just feels moronic
Bulgarians or even modern day Canadians aren't going to be able to replicate that style of humor.

1.13 is fricking fiat considered how inflated it is
I'm sorry, what was the gold standard in your opinion? Because most long-term players absolutely regard 1.13 as the final and definitive version.

Sorry that I find opinionated illiterate morons annoying, anon, I'll try to do better in the future.
>The law disagrees.
The law calls it copyright infringement. That's why usually if you get caught you need to pay a fine. Not go to prison.
Maybe you should read the law before spouting literal propaganda produced by companies that wanted to scare people from sharing stuff.
>If you didn't pay for it you don't get to have an opinion on it.
Because marketers said so? Lmao, if i inherent something for free i cant have an opinion on it? If i get free test sample i dont get to have an opinion on it? If i play free demo of a game i dont get to have an opinion on it?
I have no strong opinion about my country age of consent laws, why do you ask?

Normally people who argue about copyright law start talking about age of consent for some reason, they've also generally never created anything anyone would want to steal.

I guess you just hang around communities where AoC is a hot issue >they've also generally never created anything anyone would want to steal.
Wow just like 99.7% of people. So what?
Inter-merc bants are great in general
Ron and Charlene being the lovely dovely power couple smoking perps together are adorable
MD getting creeped out by Flay is one of my favourite things.
Igor struggling hard to earn his uncles' recognition is downright touching.
Shadow admitting that he also liked Rambo movies would have been cool had he not done it over Grizzly's dead body (at least in my playthrough)
My favorite is the one with Shadow and Scope swapping increasingly improbable stats on long shots they've allegedly made. (Come to think of it, it's kind of odd how the story hypes Shadow as a sniper while the game tries to push you toward a melee build with him.)
Merc recruitment screen also needs "sort by X stat" button baddy
JA2 had it, and in JA3 i had to rely on external google doc made by fans to compare stats of mercs
Preposterous
There should be separate equipment slots for 'eyes/face' and 'headgear'
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t this set in 2001, when integrated NVG/helmet rigs were kinda cutting edge tech not generally available outside Special Forces units?
I'd suck eleven dicks for a little meter showing how long mercs have before they'll get tired and how long you need to rest to get back to zero when you've been traveling but don't have the "tired" status yet.
I just cannot get past the hideous made of plasticine mercs and moronic "balance" for a single player game. I need barry to look like a fresh graduate at a job interview, not a psycho with a hard-on for booby traps like they made for some reason.
The aa-12 was made in mid 2000's and never got past the prototype phase, the should have kept the p90 and 1911 instead of an anachronism of a gun that is shockingly weak for a full auto shotgun.
Guns haven't really evolved that much since 2001 (gun culture has changed, so the civvie market might be more or less gay depending on preference though). Even if you think that's the case then remember that shitholes aren't going to be the most up to date in terms of armament, but they tend to field rather eclectic stuff.
He's a bit older and has field experience now. Also, this tracks with the series' theme of every explosives specialist bar the most expensive ones being insane in some way or another.
Does "Improved Reliability" from two different weapon mods stack (e.g. a Fine-Tuned Mag and an Extended Gain-Twist Barrel on a FN-FAL) or is it only applied once?
JA2 1.13 patch is considered the gold standard, but it’s pretty dated and the interface might take a little getting used to.
I’d unironically encourage you to try JA3 first because it’s not quite as crunchy, which might help.
I stick a MG on grizzly so he spends a lot of time curled up like a turtle handing out kamehamehas, when he does need to relocate his skill is useful. He is still slower like you say though.
Yeah I found that he wasn’t any better than Meltdown at the LMG support role, but the two of them working together can really hold off a lot of scumbags while the DMs/snipers do their thing.
Area denial is a powerful tool because the enemy is reluctant to enter overwatch zones.
If JA2 is more in your budget then start there, if you look at charity shops, flea markets etc you might be able to find pic related, that should still work assuming your PC has a DVD-ROM drive LOL
NTA but can I get a quick rundown on what's exactly different between JA2 and 1.13?
I remember hearing about it from an older vet buddy who I smoked pot with back in high-school who loved to talk about it but the controls hard filtered me when I tried it. Now that I'm a bit experienced with JA3 I wanted to give it another shot but don't know whether to start modded or not.
It's fine as long as you understand it's from the late 90s in terms of UI and it can be a little clunky (it was one of the better UIs back then). Might need the Stracciatella mod to get it running properly but that comes with its own bugs and issues at times. Don't listen to

, fricking 1.13 gays. Look, I love it too but that's throwing someone into the ocean to teach them to swim.
1.13 is a massive overhaul mod that changes everything to add more autism. You can tweak the shit out of it but that requires knowing the what the frick you're tweaking. It's not for someone new.
JA3 is a fine place to start though. A lot of references will go over your head but it's hardly vital.
Jagged Alliance 2 is probably the best place to start out of all the old games, but even then the interface and gameplay may be a bit impenetrable if you've only ever played modern games. It's totally acceptable to start with JA3 and work your way backwards once you're invested.
Whatever you do, DON'T start with the 1.13 patch, unlike what [...] says. 1.13 is a bloated beast that's been built up for nigh on twenty years by people who have played the original to the point of rote memorization. It's completely unplayable to anyone who hasn't played base JA2 to death, and in my opinion, a pain in the ass even then.
Thing is, the basic JA2 downloaded off of GOG doesn't run properly on modern systems. I'd recommend the Stracciatella mod, which makes it compatible with modern systems but preserves the vanilla gameplay. Once you're comfortable, you may want to try out 1.13 (which also makes it compatible with modern systems), but not immediately, for the reasons I mentioned above.
How the frick do you morons interpret "I’d unironically encourage you to try JA3 first" as "Play JA2 1.13"?
The guy asked whether JA2 was the best place to start and my answer was to advise that although JA2 1.13 is the gold standard, JA3 would be recommended.
Learn to fricking read before you start hyperventilating, holy shit.
You called it the gold standard and made no mention of vanilla. That makes it sound like the unofficial Bloodlines patch or something.
when you get to ja2, definitely get 1.13 sooner than later, it's probably the best mod for any game, ever.

Kek. But yeah 1.13 is the sole reason theres interest in the franchise even after all this time and all the flops. The haters are just contratians and stracciatella devs.
He's new, he should run through vanilla once or twice first. 15 years ago you could have maybe gone straight to 1.13 but not these days. It's 20+ years of feature creep.
Also better for JA3, as it's a sequel to JA2, not 1.13.
>You called it the gold standard and made no mention of vanilla
Because for JA2 it is, and has been for years. But I also literally told him to start with JA3. Go back and read my post with your brain switched on, you fricking muppet.

I forget the grid number but there is a cluster of those voodoo statues and when you examine them it's say WTF is this? and activates a cynicism perk, nearby is a pit with a body attached to a rock by a rope, I assume that is a far cry 3 egg.
Anyone using a custom merc in their run?
I've tried to make one, but the points are so limited that it's hard for me to make anything decent.
Also, frick Biff.
my IMP got toasted by a sniper during the mansion assault. Honestly not a big loss, them being free is their only real perk. i think in future runs I might just make the IMP a dedicated militia trainer since there's such a dearth of cheap leader mercs (hitman is it, basically)
I always buff my imps leadership, medical, and mechanical so he's more of a rear with the gear type, other mercs can train him into a combat guy easily.
I created an IMP with the intention of simulating John Wick - all about using guns in extremely close range. It proved pretty effect, though I don't know if I could have done it as easily with any AIM merc.
No, the only advantages addict Larry has is +6 health and the Optimist trait instead of the Pessimist trait. Sober Larry has +5 agility, +6 dexterity, +12 wisdom, +8 marksmanship, and the Mr. Fixit trait.
Negotiator trait is borderline op. It solves almost all of your issues.

I made one. Unfortunately I overinvested in secondary skills and his primaries are shit, so he's not much use.
This battle was easy
Mortars were a mere annoyance, especially after you realise they only hit the center of the area.
I had mouse zooming about, headshotting everyone with her m14, while both Dolovichs covered the appraches with ak-74s (which for whatever stupid reason fire 7.62 and has better pen than m-14, devs, wtf?) occasionally launching a 40mil flashbang here or there.
The biggest problem was when Biff decided to rush two butchers and almost ended up like average Brit in south Birmingham at 3am had it not been for timely intervention of Livewire and her m24
Biff taking the diamond is a good ending
Why do i care about some artifact of bumfrick nowhere african nation?
But now Biff, thats a different matter. A fellow mercenary who will put that money to good use and maybe even restart M.E.R.C allowing me to hire more disposable mercs
what are some good mods to bloat the game, I'm about to finish it but I don't want to play it.
Generally looking for anything to increase the game, but I specifically want more enemies and mercs that don't look too weird next to the vanilla portraits, this hurts my autism.
I've been thinking about making a golgo 13 merc, all his stats are maxed, he comes with a moded m-16, and cost 3 million but it's a one time cost, his perk is an auto retaliation to enemies that stand behind him.
Dont be scared of attacking outposts. Also park some cheap mercs and militia in one of the chockpoints trough with all raids come in and autoresolves those fights
>All this talk about a 'Red Wave' >Just took over the port city in the south with the limp dick governor. >And restarted on hard.
Should I be scared bros?
It will be ok just prepare to defend key cities/points with merc teams

Fricking finally!
I have had enough of having to rely on snipers because of their ammo efficiency and never using MGs which eat up all of my ammo reserves in one fight.
Do what I did. Install the mod that lets you tweak drop rates and set ammo to full. Then, install the mod that sets auto/burst fire damage to full damage per bullet for EVERYONE.
The burnout is real, i clocked in at around 50 hours i think and by the last 5 or so i just went trough the motions, just pushed through to finish the game.
>clear out half of the map >suddenly beefy army dudes that I can barely hurt and drop no army everywhere camping my stashes and taking my mines >they have better stuff than me and drop no ammo or weapons or armour when I kill them
What do, push forward or retake mines?
>What do, push forward or retake mines?
Depends how much cash you have, ive retaken everything but in hindsight if you have enough dosh and good team you could just go straight for the objectives. Maybe thats the intended way to play honestly.
>install the mod that sets auto/burst fire damage to full damage per bullet for EVERYONE
I hate that this even needs to be a mod. XCOM and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
>https://community.jaggedalliance.com/index/dev-diaries/devdiary-16-patch-roadmap-r21/ >Bobby Ray will be back
YES >Update 1.5 - Codename: Larry (Modding Maps and Campaigns)
Thats quite far a way, for shame since i hoped that some crazy bastard will remake JA2 in JA3
>Inaccurate attacks may hit other body parts of the targets incidentally >Ability to salvage knives and other items that were previously
unsalvageable >Toggle button for faster enemy and ally turns >Ricochet bullets able to hit and cause collateral damage
Frick yes
I wrote this game off when it was announced because I am obsessed with JA2 and its mechanics but I heard this game is actually pretty good from people I trust. Is there ballistics simulation?
>Ballistic simulation
Elaborate. Like, each individual bullet is counted (Like PP or Xcom1994) rather than the only thing that matters is the %? Because I am 98% sure each individual bullet is counted. It's not Firaxcom style with percentages. Without mods you don't even get percentages to your hit chance.
However, what will annoy you and what there are mods to fix is that burst and full auto do less damage per bullet. Which shows you both that ballistics are simulated (each individual bullet is registered) but also it's a dumb decision. So for example while the exact numbers are not accurate the jist of this is: >Single shot - 10 damage >Burst fire - 3 bullets doing 6 damage each. >Full auto - suppresses, I forget the damage reduction.
You'll usually see that a single shot has a higher chance to hit with guaranteed lower damage, and a burst will be less damage if only one bullet hits but more damage if they all hit.
Mods will make it so the nerf to burst/full auto is either reduced or nonexistent.
A full burst, if it hits, still deals more dmg per AP spent and probably has better chance of hitting at all, so it may be usefull when you need to hit that limb shot.
They can also hit other targets so if the enemies are bunched up, spraying at them with burst fire is an acceptable option.
They chew through ammo tho, and for anything that isn't 9mm, you'll soon find yourself low on ammo.
(The goddamn shop can't come soon enough)
They are going to add it in
But for now, best you've got is occasional trader with a kne-time offer "buy modded SVD for 2000" or "buy 3 pipe bombs for 500"
The flea market is a real treasure trove. You've got at least 3 traders there. If RNG is lucky, one may even sell useful stuff like, 2 mags worth of 5.56
Oh, and you've got crafting. If you find gunpowder and workshop, you can produce your own ammo and bombs

Alright, based on this thread and some other recommendations I think I'll be grabbing it after I finish Dungeon Rats. Thanks.
I once had my sniper (m24 with AP rounds) tell me: "nope. Sorry. Can't hit that guy, he's behind cover."
The cover was a single layer of sheet metal, propped up on two sticks.
I said, that's bullshit, aim down and pull the trigger.
They nailed the guy.
Seems like the game doesn't have AP loss based on HP and energy left? Shame because I loved that mechanic in JA2 as you could punch a blackshirt unconscious or ruin someone's day even if they had ceramic plates by shooting them so much they passed out. Overall still really enjoying it and pleasantly surprised that a JA game can be good after the year 2000.
>clear out half of the map >suddenly beefy army dudes that I can barely hurt and drop no army everywhere camping my stashes and taking my mines >they have better stuff than me and drop no ammo or weapons or armour when I kill them
What do, push forward or retake mines?
Speaking of which I've resisted the urge to start up a new run until the next patch but the last time I played was before they patched out the rules of nature bug. How are melee characters now anyway?
Chars with high dex have low strength, so they tickle
Chars with high strength have low dex, so they miss even fully aimed strikes.
Sneak attacks often leave enemy on "weak" or outright miss. And even if they kill as they should, you still start combat because someone heard something, or found a body
So what perks do you guys feel are the best so far? I actually think Rage is the best perk in the game now, if you have a high health merc and simply let them get wounded, they start outputting insane damage at 3+ wounds and shred everything.
I can't remember the skills names so: >Extra move after tossing grenades >keep extra move when in heavy armour >inspire on 50+dmg hit >transfer unspent ap to next turn + gain grit >gain grit when out of cover >grit on giving first aid >extra killy snake attacks
Good for swift flankers (i.e. Mouse): >more extra move >15% more dmg from flanking
I still debate whether Heavy Armor is worth it at all. Without that perk you sacrifice all your mobility, with it its still weakened, AND you had to spend a perk just for that, which could've gone elsewhere. All for 10% more damage reduction over Kevlar? It just doesn't seem worth the tradeoffs, Heavy Armor would have to be at least 20% more than Kevlar to truly be worth using. I agree with you on Vanguard, it's actually ridiculously strong, especially since it seems like you can just keep stacking it even as you're waiting in overwatch out of cover for the AI to get there, you can easily get 45-60 grit by the time they show up. Inspire, yeah, I agree, solely because it sometimes gives your Snipers an extra shot and Snipers are already the dominant meta for now.

The main issue is that armour system makes little sense now and should be reworked. >get 45-60 grit
It's capped at 30, my man >Inspire, yeah, I agree, solely because it sometimes gives your Snipers an extra shot
Snipers and shotgunners, the two high rollers when it comes to damage. The difference is that snipers are safer. > and Snipers are already the dominant meta for now.
Low ammo use, best range, best penetration, very good dmg/ap ratio and no penalties at close range. They are insanely strong. I feel like I have to nerfmyself by not using them (too much)
The other big issue with Snipers right now is that they made Stealth way too powerful, the combo of Sniper+Stealth is what trivializes a lot of the maps, and it's such a superior approach to use it it's hard not to just roll with a full squad of Snipers with some backup explosives or machine guns for those missions where you have to kill a lot of enemies fast and don't start at range (like the "don't involve me" version of Blaubert/Luigi), which is the only time Sniper+Stealth isn't the absolute best possible choice. Personally I think Stealth in general needs to be nerfed, and Sniper rifles should at least have massive accuracy penalties at short range, as well as buffing all the other weapons, except maybe Machine Guns, as they are all way too weak in comparison. SMGs and Pistols in general need buffs, and I think they should rework burst fire to have capped accuracy but do full damage so ARs can have their proper place.
Simple fix: >all sniper rifles (with one or two special exceptions) cannot mount suppressors.

Yeah, that would definitely help, at least it would cut down on the Gwehr 98 being so ridiculously good even though it's supposed to be a garbage weapon. I still would like a complete rework of Stealth in general though, you can solo entire maps using Shadow with just a knife.

JA3 is a fine starting point. If you want to play the earlier games after JA3, though, you might find them simplistic due to the gameplay changes. I personally think JA2 is intuitive enough that you could start there if you wanted, but that might be because I played it as a child.
For a narrative perspective, just remember that JA3 is a sequel, because it makes a number of callbacks (some of them plot-relevant) to earlier games. Just keep in mind that if someone mentions a place or person as if you should know them, and you don't, it's probably from an earlier game and not to worry you've missed something.
He's not the guy I'm paid to kill, he's a harmless idiot and all he has ever done is accidentally fed his buddy to crocs, but come on, who hasn't?
I let him go. But not before taking his cash, of course. Bullets aren't free
I always liked, uh, "Oats", so I would have just told him to go on his way without consequences if I could, but the option was replaced with sending him to jail, so that's what I did. It seemed to give him more peace, anyway.
going in blind for JA3(and series) was a mistake >U.I elements are tiny PoS by default, even then memorizing keybind off the bat is way better, since U.I was designed by fricking apple employee >by default you 2 different keybinds for exploration and combat movement, WHY >prone behind tree, enemy somehow sees my soldier while enemy looks the opposite direction >random mercs at the start >game locked to 30 FPS with Vsync

In this game several prominent characters (including Pierre) have plot armour >*headshot with .50BMG* >"ugh, you defeated me, let us talk" >"hey, I'm a piece of shit, but I can work for you" >(kill him) or (let him go) or (skill check: special option, usually quest related) >"(this choice will have consequences)"
If you're afraid of consequences, then save the game before doing anything.
There's no reason to keep Pierre alive depending on the kind of run you're going for. It's perfectly fine to kill him, you get fun lines with some of the mercs, such as Fidel, when you execute him, too.
Fidel gives funny lines every time you kill anyone
Unrelated question: who is the best medic? MD can't shoot for shit and Fox is too dumb to solve puzzles.
MD has incredibly high Wisdom, you can train up his Marksmanship in no time. Fox is also god tier with her trait capitalizing on Stealth in a game where Stealth is already broken. DrQ is one of the best melee combatants in the game, Thor is one of the best stealth killers since he has the Stealthy perk, and his Herbal Pills negate tired AND give grit, which makes them super good. So basically every single dedicated Medic in this game is top tier.
That's how it was in JA2. Most of the dedicated low to mid range cost medics had massive Agi and Wis, meaning lots of AP and actions in combat, which translated to super fast growth. Dr. Q, Danny, Fox, and Thor were usually my go to picks after grabbing Igor and Blood.
Yeah, but a few tiny diamonds are hardly a big gain in the larger scheme of things. It all depends on what kind of run you're doing, if you're doing a villainous run it makes total sense to kill Pierre, let them hang Luc for money, slaughter Bastien, kill Spike, kill Biff, and just basically go on a rampage in general before you leave Grand Chien in smoking ruins and civil war. After all, what do you care? You're just there to get paid.
>kill Bastien >not intimidating him into extorting money from refugees
I'm here to get paid not to slaughter anyone and everyone

It's more fun to kill him.
I got fricked so badly by this that, while I didn't lose anyone, I just went and started again because I was pissed.
Also how the frick are you supposed to get the diamond off Biff, I made sure I went there with Magic, Smiley and Gus (I think I read in some thread that you needed one of them) but he still just left with it.
You can get it off him if you have Clean Larry or Smiley talk him into it, OR have someone with the Negotiator perk on your team. You have to pick the right dialogue options for this to happen, though. If it really bothers you, you can simply kill him and loot it off his corpse. Arguably it's better to leave it with Biff anyways since he uses it to fund another mercenary company and buy himself a yacht, which is honestly a better use of the money than spending it on Grand "FUBAR" Chien.

I probably fricked up the dialog because I had ALL of those thingsl, but eh, fair enough, it's not like I'm strapped for cash I'm getting like 15k a day with EVERY merc but Spike hired.
I'm also about to start the red wave, should I just sell whatever antiquities I have until I get a bunch of mines or is it worth to take the hit, zipline to port cacao and sell all of them (already have the museum)?

The Green Diamond only gives 50K when you cash it in anyways, it's just a story item, you can either let Biff keep it so he starts a new merc company and lives it up as a rich man, give it to the Museum in which case it becomes a tourist attraction for Grand Chien, or keep it in your mercs inventory until the end of the game in which case they auction it off for millions of dollars and donate the proceeds to help rebuild the country.
You're going to lose the Port to the red wave if you don't set up a squad in advance, and if you lose the Port Emma disappears from the map, so if you want to keep her around for relic trading make sure that doesn't happen. As for your question, it just depends on what you prefer, the influx of immediate cash or getting the militia to save you time and expense on training them back up at a given location.
Meltdown gets phat crits with the 92fs and glock. Shame you can't do a burst fire with the glock while duel wielding.
I'm excited to see what a Long War type overhaul mod would do to this game. Definitely going to try out JA2 when I finish this and try to get my work buddy to play it too since the motherfricker already put 200 hours into JA3.
Setting overlapping fields of fire never gets old.
>Setting overlapping fields of fire never gets old.
Watching some 20 year old tribal in face pint and a soccer jersey waltz through them and shooting your dudes in the face does, though.
Because they accidentally put a bug in the game that doesn't correctly calculate AP costs when dual wielding, I assume it will be fixed next patch, but until then, I recommend you grab this to fix it: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3008387230&searchtext=
I also highly recommend this mod for weapon balance in general, part of the reason dual wield is so terrible is because pistols and SMGs are way weaker than they should be: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3017633184&searchtext=timmeh
I have to say, the modding scene for this game is great already, when the full modding tools come out it's going to get even better. This game should have a long and healthy lifespan as a result, and a lot of replay value. I am looking forward to it. There's already mods fixing up the terrible AI and making it more threatening, for example, and we're only a few months in. This game will be amazing once the community works on it for a year or two.
Just use whatever you like, it's easier to install mods through the Workshop if you are using Steam, otherwise just grab them on the Nexus. Although, Nexus is lagging behind Workshop pretty badly for a lot of mods so you're better off just using SteamCMD to grab the ones they don't have off the workshop if you have a GoG copy or are sailing the seven seas.
>stumbled across biff's base by accident >game gives zero fricks, throws squad after squad of goons at my direction as well mortar >last wave just spawns on top of Biff >barely survived, Biff is alive
jesus christ game calm the frick down, there is only so much MG covering fire I can lay down

Scully, wear a fricking rubber. Get a vasectomy. Pull out. Do literally anything besides constantly nutting as hard and deep as you can into multiple fertile, ovulating bimbos and then wondering why you have so many damned kids.
is there a point to mortars?
explosive shells miss because enemy moved away
no point in bombarding house either, since you need to penetrate all floors
Most mortar rounds I find are mustard gas rounds, they can work well for ambushes or area denial except most enemies will run straight through the gas and choke to death
Get the AI improvement mod, it makes the game way more interesting. Although you might want to wait, they said they're going to release an even better version once the patch comes out.
>allowed to kill 'le quirky smart negress' at the minefield
Was kinda butthurt spending more than $20 on a game, but this is has made up for it a little
You mean the one on the starting island? She's not smart she's fricking insane and a psychopath, just like every explosives expert in the JA series, except maybe Barry. She has some great lines with Fidel.
>the AI improvement mod
Is it just a bunch of random tweaks to values or does JA3 support scripting for writing new behaviors? If it's not the latter then it's a waste of time.
From what I have played of it, they have different behaviors. They will wait in stealth, not run into your setup overwatches, and generally are much more cautious about how they engage. It still has problems, though, and honestly it seems like the AI cheats sometimes since it knows where your units are even if they're in stealth with the mod, so hopefully that gets fixed, but I still prefer it to the vanilla behaviors where you can just setup a chokepoint and the enemy just zergs into the crossfire over the smoking bodies of their compatriots.
This is it if you want to test it out: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3019163272 though like I said he's saying he's going to be a much bigger update to it all soon. Also he has a more comprehensive mod for equipping enemies as well as changing their behavior, but it requires adding his other mods and I prefer Timmehs Weapon Mods to his so I just use the AI improvements and that's it.
i was the first to theorize potentially combining mortars with tear gas and leg shots but never fleshed out the strat. Mortars are a tool for B team base defenders, whereas A team should be using nade launcher
It's great that so many mercs have unique lines even for stuff like Suliemans chicken. Nails says something about how he needs to actually feed the damn thing. And obviously a guy who picks his merc callsign to be "Reaper" is going to be an edgelord. I would LOVE to see a list of what people make their IMPs callsign, I bet some of them are as silly or dumb as the AIM mercs. Or they are just tryhard and self flattering, like mine, OMAC.
Which missing MERCs do you guys want back the most in DLC or even free expansions of the roster? Lynx probably tops the list for most, I suppose, there's already a mod adding him back into the game on Nexus. The game needs more medics so I would like to see Spider come back. Aside from that I would actually like to see more new mercs than anything.
New operations might be nice, on the other hand, I wouldn't mind them expanding the map of the current campaign either. I would like more stuff to do even though the main campaign is pretty good for content already.
Hamous maybe, give him a gunboat or old german U-boat he fixed up that would make ports less mandatory
personally I would like to have operations on the roads, sabotaging the roads(fallen trees, mines, calitrops) same with water ways
That would be nice to slow some of the enemy squads or weaken them, though I would like to see an increase in enemy squad generation if that was added.
>DLC or even free expansions of the roster?
Probably Lynx, also expansion adding maybe some border area from bordering country would be cool. Just a few tiles and new enemy type, something like foreign raiders or maybe something inspired by Tauregs or some separatists.
Also MOAR weapons
I honestly don't think there's much point to them adding weapons when there are already so many mods out that add dozens.

add improvised dogshit weapons for very early game just to bring some variety instead of >pistol, Ak, old german rifle
there is also criminal lack of flamethrower enemies that would try to rush you and cook you

Easy fix for the mercs starting loadout with either of these two mods:
Why would that prisoner think you're friends with the commies? You aren't, right? You butchered all the dumbass commie gays and took their mine for FREEDOM, right?
they follow the principles of great mercenary leader biff abicot
when he return from his sikret mission, they together save grand chen from the hands of evil
without knowing much about the devs I can say there were definitely russians or at least ex-soviet satellite state countries on the team
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Twelve_Chairs
Its RNG where you get tidy sum of cash for it, about 50K, at the point you find the diamond you would have been knee deep in cash and thats just pocket change like the Farmer's "Buried Treasure"
>you can send fresh mercs to the Island after refugee camp shit
admittedly it was D-day experience but managed to box in enemies and prevent invasion forces from leaving the island, can't retake it with my peanut gallery though
I disagree. Let's see,Fox has a really good passive, she can double kill enemies on patrol as a result without them giving an alarm or starting combat with it. Nails is quite good too, he can rampage pretty hard if you maneuver him correctly with a shotgun, Shadows passive lets him solo entire maps with a knife, Ravens is god tier since you just set overwatch on a group of enemies and then they all die the moment someone touches them, Thors pills give crucial grit bonuses at key times AND let you bypass the tired debuff so you never have to stop for rest.
Wolf makes training militia, scouting, repairing, basically every operation significantly faster which is a huge bonus, if you give Ice a rifle he can use his ability to singlehandedly kill almost any unit in the game, Bloods passive lets you get free flanks while doing major damage, Grunty if set up with a good rifle will cap an extra foe at the start of any combat which synergizes very well with Stealth ambushes, Hitmans lets you sit prone and gain massive damage and tankiness, perfect for the sniper build he's geared for, Gus gives your entire squad Grit every time he gets a kill which is quite useful, Scullys lets you frontline tank with ease, Sidneys gives you bonus rifle shots which is nice.
Lens special lets you basically one shot anything if your squad is anywhere near each other, Vicki pumps out massive damage (+7 flat damage and 15% crit on every shot is big) with hers, especially when she's dual wielding, Igors makes him the best melee character in the game, and Raider one shots anything in someone elses overwatch cone, and Kalyna is one of the best snipers in the game.
I think they did a great job overall, most of the mercs have pretty strong abilities if used correctly. The ones I didn't mention are the ones I'd say are either subpar or just bad, for example, Reapers is garbage, Meltdowns is pretty useless, and Steroid probably has the worst ability in the game.
Let me get this straight: >we're mercenaries hired by a company >to take over the diamond mines and rescue another group of mercenaries who were hired by the same company >to take over the diamond mines and fight local rebels who turned out to be yet another group of mercenaries who were also hired by the same company to also take over the diamond mines
That's some CIA level shitfrickery
Yeah it's pretty great, I love how fricked up everything actually is in Grand Chien, the only thing really missing is that it's actually American intelligence agencies causing all the chaos and suffering.
I really want an overhaul that'll expand Grand Chien to the rest of the country (We're just in some valley or something) and have it be this fricking shitshow civil war. Communists, presidential loyalists, la legion, company mercs, safari-goers, hermann the nazi scientist, throw in some new donut steel shit like pirates and neighboring country invading and just random gangs. I finished the game and haven't touched it for a few months but it really hit my itch perfectly (or as perfect as can be expected) for tactical turn based. Turn it into african bush war sandbox and I'll be playing it till the cows come home.
can anyone explain to me why the old german/french bunker on Ernie Island had communist flags in it's underbelly?
cold war era remnants?
or was it Chimurega ?
There seem to be commie sympathizers all over Grand Chien, Chimichanga is just the leader of the faction. To be fair to the moronic Africans they ARE getting fricked over hard by capitalists so communism would be an easy sell to most of them.
I don't know, I like the delivery of some of his lines, the speech he gives if one of your guys gets killed is pretty good. So far I'd say the two best VAs in the game are Fox and Fidel, though I need to play through the game with more mercs to fully comment on all of them.
Just got this game and played for couple of hours.
Managed to take the fort on the first island without doing any of the "soften them up" objectives by sneaking in and manning that machine gun in the tower.
MD died to the boss and Steroid said "That's what you get for skipping leg day".
Favourite merc is Bombarry.
Am I missing something cause I can't se the raw % probability of hitting, have been eyeballing it and going of the merc voice lines when you give the shoot command, but wondering if there is anyway to actually know the odds before you pull the trigger.
>Am I missing something cause I can't se the raw % probability of hitting
JA games don't give you chance to hit unless a shot has extremely low odds of landing.
Keep in mind that this game does a pretty good job of simulating ballistics. As
I once had my sniper (m24 with AP rounds) tell me: "nope. Sorry. Can't hit that guy, he's behind cover."
The cover was a single layer of sheet metal, propped up on two sticks.
I said, that's bullshit, aim down and pull the trigger.
They nailed the guy.
said.
So even if they tell you "yeah I can do it" but there's a lot of things between them, then the shot is likely do be deflected by something.
It's nothing like nuX-com (and thank God for that)
>mad hannah about to get her head blown off with a shotgun >hailmarry a sniper shot from wolf on a roof across the map through a wooden shack for a crit kill >HYPE
They can't add in ricochets and off target limb hits quick enough. Kind of crazy the game didn't have them to begin with. Code for accidental limb hits has to already exist because I've definately had it happen with overwatch shots.
Also frick we need an over the shoulder view to be able to better see what mess we're trying to aim through and whether a shot is blocked by wood or concrete
>nothing like Xcom
I don't know about that one chief, I can still hit bullshit targets that are not in line of sight just by penetrating cover, Xcom has squadsight for that, the novelty of stances wears off quickly once you understand it
if anything JA3 is pretty good bridge between Xcom and JA series, I can still get my nigh infinite moves in one turn cheese just fine
Whats your guys thoughts on the characters and their personalities? which are most fun? So far nails and Fidel seem to be my favorite, lots of good lines. Grizzly has the occasional good line. Vicki has a shit ton of lines compared to everyone else but none of them good. Wolf is so generic down the middle boring that it kinda fits. Played with blood and ice a little neither seemed that interesting. So far I've only played with 1 that was so grating I had to drop and that was livewire which is a shame considering her abilities
But it's alright because Vicki's crit and damage buff is pretty great
Ivan talks shit about you, the commander 24/7 in Russian, it's pretty funny if you can understand him
Shadow has also quite a few lines, he is quite blunt
Gus is always good pick, he has a few lines with Len >Len, can you rub my leg, it hurts again >I am not falling for that one again >Oh come, I ate beans that time >Hey Len can you pull my finger real quick?
You can also recruit Pierre he has quite a few unique dialogues when encounter Legion's sub bosses, alas he is pretty far away

Ivan is the best merc with the best banter. Fidel is #2 and is the only character with the Psychopath trait that actually seems truly insane and sociopathic, whereas Nails and Meltdown are just angry. I really enjoy Grunty talking about how his Mother taught him to kill his childhood bullies and hide their bodies. Reaper is an edgelord and therefore fun. Actually in general I like all the Legendary mercs, with the exception of Magic and Fauda, who simply do not have the charisma of the rest. Scope is the best female character in the game, by the way.
Lynx and Buzz will probably be the first mercs they bring back in DLC/expansions. I really want them to create more new mercs though, although they need to do a better job with them, the only one that was even decent was Kalyna and even she isn't all that great. The mercs should definitely be oddballs, that's the nature of JA, but they should also feel like mercs, and Livewire/Omryn/Kalyna simply are too far on the spectrum of quirky and they don't seem like actual killers for hire in any way.
I also think a lot of the older mercs got downgraded, Igor for example is terrible compared to what he was in JA2, again too far on the quirky side and not enough on the "gun for hire" side. Oh and Fauda is just a dumb concept, you cannot create a badass tough and grizzled old woman warrior, it just doesn't exist, it will never work, that role is exclusive to men for a reason.
>WHAT DO YOU MEA. I CANT RELOAD?? >Grizzly chewed through my entire stock of 7,62 almost single handedly with the rpk
Kek. Machine guns only costing 3 ap when set up or using grizzlies ability is pretty nuts
>pipe bombs landing in the middle of my child soldier militia and nails spends the whole combat running around and diving on them to rip out the fuse
heheh
What'd you get, crappy early SMGs in a game with guns 3 gen their descendants everywhere and frick-off overkill 12.7 rifleman long sticks?
I want the FR-F1 but as far as I can tell it doesn't exist in vidya.
Holy frick I just noticed a Black's healthbar will highlight if he's in line of fire for penetration/burst fire and it fricking matters where you place the shot.
I can scrap the big piles of knives I've built up, but unfortunately not the big piles of steel pipes. >better quickload to make sure scrapping this gun gets me a steel pipe >don't want to run out of steel pipes, after all >I'll definitely be glad I did this in the future, yessiree
>had a run where I ran dry of steel pipes and chips >become somewhat obssessed with both, start piling them >end game now and I realize most of my guns either have thermals or nothing because I was always dry on scopes
FRICK
Yeah, chips seem super rare at first, but east Fleatown has an MP5k and a Glock 19 you can repeatedly buy every several days for only a few grand that you can easily harvest chips from with some savescumming. I guess you can do the same with lenses through the Dragonov at the poacher's camp, but it's only one at a time and in a far less convenient location.
Also there never enough spare parts and way too much goddamn gunpowder. I'm sitting on dozens of stacks of this crap that I can't do anything with because I need the parts for mods or for turning ammo into AP ammo. It shouldn't be 1 gunpowder and 30 scrap to make bullets, it should be 30 gunpowder and 1 scrap.
I actually gave up on making bullets, just had people running WP ammo which is plentiful thorough the game. Now that the red wave came and shit isn't so time sensitive anymore, I'll just leave Red perpetually doing 7.62 NATO and 5.56 somewhere central like Fleatown.
I should add that I don't really need parts for mods anymore, everyone is already packing late game gear (or I have enough weapons stored once I solve the 7.62 drought).
I didn't even need to buy the MP5 but good idea for future runs.
It's impossible for Steroid to be usable long term since Ivan is the best merc in the game and Steroid has a permanent -1 AP with Ivan around, making Steroid the worst merc in the game.
Ivan is an aim bot, but lacks personality beyond being Russian. He's fun in a jar jar binks kind of way if you have grunty and other mercs that like him in the same squad.
He's hardly just an aim bot, you can play him in virtually any way and he's god tier, have you tried Explosives Ivan, for example? Melee Ivan is also ridiculously strong, he can do just about anything and do it better than anyone else since he has the best passive for multi killing in the game, you can clear entire maps with just him if you play him correctly.
I would say pic related is the ultimate tier list for the game, factoring in cost and everything else.
It's an odd list since livewires skill makes stealthing a reckoned zone extremely easy, but she bottom of the list for personality. I could put Ivan down there for personality.
She's just not that good, her Mech skill is decent but still needs training so she doesn't quite fit that niche, and her overall statistics are not that good. Her special ability is just okay and ultimately she's just not worth the cost compared to other mercs who can do what she does, better and more efficiently. Also I can't say I like her personality either, an adult woman acting like an 8 year old is not charming, especially when they're supposed to be a mercenary who kills people for a living.

She does have that one great line, when chimuranga is talking about communism being good, she says, "and I thought I believed in fairy tales", aside from that the way she talks with that bizarre inflection makes her sound like she's impersonating the game grumps.

A lot of the mercs dab on Chimichanga, it's pretty great.
Fidel and Nails should be lower. Scope and the other brit should be higher. Thor should be lower solely because he's worse than both Fox and Dr. Q. I'm not sure if I'm getting RNG-tinted glasses but Ice is a killing machine in my playthroughs, and Magic is like Kalyna, but better, so he should be at least above her.
The problem with Magic is his cost, he's the most expensive merc in the game and he really doesn't justify it, the only two mercs who could conceivably be worth what Magic costs are Shadow and Ivan, and even then, it would be questionable.
Fidels passive is amazing and he easily destroys entire groups with it, I admittedly favor him due to his incredibly based personality, as well, so I could see him being in A instead, but I still think he's really fricking good.
I disagree about Thor, his Herbal Pills are great for avoiding the Tired debuff and give grit on demand, and he's one of the best stealth killers in the game, plus he's a Medic which is extremely valuable. Scope and Sidney are really good yeah but I don't think they're as cost efficient as the ones I put above them.
You're right that Ice could be higher, though, if you use a Rifle and his passive he one shots just about anything.

That's his active ability that he cannot use again until you get a kill with somethng else.
But if used right, there's no need to ever use it again
What makes Mouse so good? Is it just the combo of having game-best Agility and nearly game-best Dexterity out of the gate, along with getting complete control of her perk selection? Is it because she's very cute?
Most of the mercs have a downgraded personality from the previous games, most of them don't feel like hired killers/mercs at all, yeah they were always quirky, but not to the extent they are in JA3. Igors a great example, he's a merc who is chasing the legend of his uncle and trying to carve out his own niche, and then in JA3 he seems to drop about 40-50 IQ points and never shuts up about vodka/being a Dolvich.
It's an odd list since livewires skill makes stealthing a reckoned zone extremely easy, but she bottom of the list for personality. I could put Ivan down there for personality.
Ivan is pretty based actually, if you understand what he's saying at all he easily has the best banter in the entire game. He's one of the only characters that still acts and talks like a real merc, unlike his nephew.
To be fair, Europeans are not going to really have a solid grasp on how to portray American blacks. I did like Ices banter about Herman needing to fricking die for being a snitch, though.
Ivan is weird >talk to Cheburek or whatever the frick his name is >Ivan is like "yes, comrades good" >2 sentences later >"these guys are just as capitalistic" >remove Chimichungus and his commies >Ivan is sad
>instantly turning on your fellow communists except for when they lose and you're like "this is great shame for revolution"
as a dirty lefty myself I can tell you this is 10000% accurate
Should've installed that custom start mod and increased your maximum mercs and enemies (and played on a harder difficulty than First Blood) if you wanted to have to actually manage your money.
A failure in design, then, as it is fundamentally better to keep the starting mercs in virtually every case. The only reason you get the higher mercs in JA3 is because you have more money than you'll ever need so you might as well grab the elites to fill out an extra squad.
> Replace Barry
There is legitimately no explosive expert better than him
Fidel is superior to Barry, his double toss passive makes him the best explosives merc in the game.
I've been lucky to have been able to catch a good amount of weapon shipments and have stacked up on 5.56 and 7.62 WP. >MFW I found the minimi >Mfw I found two of them
Just beat the game, didn't get the best ending but I recruited the major which was a lot of fun. I hope they make an expansion with a new map rather than just DLCs on the same map.
either they will unlock some of the locked squares or north of the country where the capital is, The President mentioned there was almost a civil war over his position
You can set a squad there and defend the village easily, especially if you set up the machine gun in it earlier. In fact if you have that you only need 1-2 mercs to defend it. You can also stop them from taking out the Port and removing Grizzlies crush from the game early.
Fox is really too good on numerous levels, I have to actively ignore her when building squads so I can see more squad compositions. Her passive is great, she gives morale bonuses to Nails and Wolf, who are both strong picks, (and Tex too but who would ever use Tex with how garbage dual wielding and pistols are, you have to heavily mod the game for him to be strong) and she's one of the few medics in the game. Plus she has great banter. The only drawback she has is all the other prostitutes in the game hate that she's top b***h.
The only merc in the game better than Barry is Ivan, and Barry even beats him as far as cost efficiency goes.
All that, plus she has 100 Dex and the Teaching trait, which means all your mercs will have 91 Dex and therefore access to the Sharpshooter perk.
As far as pistols go, I did well enough with an IMP using a Desert Eagle and the CQC and Stealthy traits, but it probably would've been better to just use a short barrel FAL. (That, and Shadow will just make your stealth IMP look like a chump in comparison anyway.)
They should make it to where you can do the Big Boss knifegun thing with a pistol and a knife equipped in the same row. I don't know if that would make pistols that much better, but it'd be cool at least.
[...] And Livewire, even if no one will admit it.
Every weapons mod so far massively buffs pistols and SMGs for a reason, they are complete trash damage wise, with absolutely shitty range on top of it, and their AP costs aren't even that good either. You can actually get better AP ratios off using modded automatics than you can pistols, which is moronic. Pistols shouldn't be as good or better than rifles and machine guns, of course, but they should at least have a solid niche where they're good, and right now they don't, you're better off using automatics/machine guns/rifles in virtually every scenario, not to mention melee mogs the frick out of pistols/SMGs in close range as well.
And no, Livewire will forever be trash tier simply because she's absolutely garbage personality and banter wise, only Fauda is arguably worse.
All that, plus she has 100 Dex and the Teaching trait, which means all your mercs will have 91 Dex and therefore access to the Sharpshooter perk.

They should make it to where you can do the Big Boss knifegun thing with a pistol and a knife equipped in the same row. I don't know if that would make pistols that much better, but it'd be cool at least.
Her and Barry are the top picks as far as I'm concerned.
so which mercs are extra pissy, beside merc rivalries? >Fidel fricks off if you don't fight constantly >Scully always asks for extra cash >Kalyna asked once for raise
reaper kept mentioning he would leave if it weren't for Shadow
There are mods that allow you to do that, the custom start one is the best. Also the roster is not really lacking in leaders if you factor in that you only need one per squad. They are simply expensive since Leadership affects so many things including SAT movement and morale in combat, which are both major factors. And most of the leaders are in Legendary tier, so at the start you're limited to your IMP and Raider, but by the time you need a third squad you should easily be able to afford Len/Scully/Gus.
Depends on what you want your merc to be doing, if they're sitting back with a machine gun/rifle use medium armor, if you're rushing in with a shotgun or melee, light armor.
Movement>armour
1 extra AP may allow you to get behind corner, lay down behind sandbags or kill whoever is threatening you
10% dmg reduction isn't worth shit when 3 homies with AKs unload into you at once
Squad of IMPs in JA2 was Face / Tiny Tim / Doc / Hotshot / Boomer / Viper
JA3 squad I've planned out is Boyscout / Manager / Sunshine / Terror / Chopper / Hardware
(First two will be Negotiators, then a Scoundrel, other three being Psychos)
Fidel easily has the best conversations and dialogue in the game in general. That fricking line in Port Cao to the Governor about how "The fricking Legion cannot fire straight with an RPG.... but Fidel CAN" for example. The one he has with Shadow talking about how surprising people with explosives is much better than surprising people from stealth is also quite amusing.
All you have to do in order to keep Fidel from leaving is have 3 manual battles with him every two weeks, which is extremely easy. The reason people probably kept losing him is they sat around for weeks training or auto battling. I never had an issue keeping Fidel since I don't play like that, so it really depends on what your approach is. If you want to sit around maxing out your squad for weeks or months without getting into fights, yeah, avoid Fidel, but if you plan on being more aggressive, you will never have an issue keeping him around.
I'm hitting mid game with a shit load of cash and team of mostly rookies and vets. I don't think anyone feels like they're underperforming. Maybe I should switch up Mouse for Reaper and Grunty for... a gold machine gunner? I suppose the problem is most of them are hitting level 4/5 and I should have parted with them earlier, let them leave.
There's really no reason to change it up and add the gold mercs if you're satisfied with your team. The gold mercs are a nice little bonus but hardly necessary to efficiently complete the game.
Кoммaндиp вooбщe дypaк
Counterpoint, only a fool would fail to fully learn English after three full games
Playing this for the first time and I got to say, it's extremely addicting. Just had the plot twist and the map got repainted, and I have a couple of questions.
When should I get the 2nd squad and what's its use?
When's a good point to change my mercs? All of them are recruits but at level 5, should I really get a veteran at level 2-3? I feel like I could switch Omryn out, but Raven is double his salary.
I'm at 300k and dropping 1k a week due to having no mining going on atm.
You don't need to change out mercs if you're happy with your team. Money is irrelevant, however, so if you'd rather have Raven just grab her, at a certain point you can hire whoever you want, and the Legendary mercs are significantly more powerful simply due to their high overall stats and superior passives. But you can easily beat the game with the lower ranked mercs you started with.
An extra squad, or squads, is useful for hunting down shipments, and grabbing other objectives faster around the map, and on certain missions it's useful to send them both in at the same time, such as the Biff fight or the assault on the Major. You should also have two dedicated mercs that run around and train militia so you can hold points without having to waste time sending one of your main squads to defend or retake key points every time attack squads head out. Buns is the best merc for this, and you can choose a secondary teaching merc for her based on cost/speed, personally I like using Wolf since his passive makes it really fast, though he is more expensive than some of the other Teacher mercs.
If you're recruiting all the extra free mercs you should have three full squads plus your two militia trainers by end game, since you can hire 15 (which your IMP merc doesn't count towards) and there are five free mercs you can get at one point, though Spike is really late game and personally I always tell Smiley to frick off since Blaubert is actually a pretty solid dude, for a gangster.
Thanks. I actually didn't know you could get Smiley so I chased him away, while also sending the amnesiac away by clicking without reading. I'll get Buns for training for now, thanks.
I only chose to keep Smiley because I needed to round out a 3rd team and was worried about money (lol) but yeah, he's a douche. Boss is the better man and the ho is happy with him. Oh well, next playthru...
Is there a rule where Jagged Alliance 3 threads can't just say that in the subject or OP?
Anyway, is it better to give everyone light armor and the fast runner perk or medium armor and the flanker perk on the way to lightning reflexes?
Bonus move is more important
I have heavy and medium armor on most of my crew except the imp, but I also their dex and agility trained up past 80, so even so they're pretty fast.
It's so you'll never see them.
Which is kind of a shame really
Let me know if it itches, I can rub something on it 😉
Typical Ganker autism. You are supposed to be in the know.
>Replying to a motherfricker from ~2 months ago
I hate this board
BE QUIET NOW!!!
IT IS A SHAME THAT THEY WON'T BE ABLE TO WATCH ME MOVE
Even the gigastacy Fox is intimidated by the Polish bvll. It's cute.
>obvious Arnie reference
>he speaks with german accent
>occasionally adds in "ja" or other german words
Why did they feel the need to make him a pole again?
He was Polish in JA2, they just continue the tradition. Although in JA2, he didn't sound much like Arnie, IIRC, he just nicked some lines from him. In JA3 they just went "frick it" and gave him the Ahnold accent.
call somebody from Sir-Tech and ask them zoomie
It makes for a better justification to dislike russians maybe
I want to give JA3 a go but am waiting for a couple of updates more.
It seems markedly better than the other games that were released between this and JA2 but needs more polishing.
Oh, it's not even a contest. It's a bit rough here and there, but it's the best JA game after JA2.
Yo...
This fricker has too much of a main character vibe to him. He annoys me.
Maybe you should pay attention and see how it's done commando-style.
YOOOWWL-AAUUUGGH! GOOO, GET TO DAH CHOPPAAA!!
>*bizarre Arnie noises intensify*
I like it when he calls me "Chief"
Oh shit, it's Jan Michael Vincent
Mouse is cute.
I'd give her cheese.
She is a terrible girlfriend, running off on her relationship and civilian medical practice to try and get some mercenary tail again.
She's also clearly pissy because Fox has no interest in fricking her (REEEEEEEEEEEEEE).
Hey, this game is not bad actua-
>zombies
What in the actual frick
They're African
>JA2
>hey this game is not bad act-
>aliens
Zombies make more sense
To be fair, Sci-Fi mode was an optional setting (even if it is the intended experience)
>fricking commies are your allies
Please tell me they betray you halfway through the game or something and you'll get to wipe them the frick out.
I can't suffer these red bastards.
You can wipe them out the moment you meet them and forcibly take away the mine. Are you moronic?
I guess he wants permission, doesn't have the balls to act on his own.
ironically commie mentality
Get grunty, grizzly, and meltdown equipped with mortars and hit a concentrated area with mortar fire and you can clean up. Flasbangs help.
I have Barry with the mortar and MGL for his explosives skill, Meltdown and Grizzly are on the HK’s. I can do all right with just AR launchers I think.
>This is a multiple grenade launcher
>It has a six shot magazine
>but needs 12 hours of maintenance after firing only four shots
What the FRICK was Haemimont thinking?
They have issues when it comes to trying to balance things.
The worse issue is they have so many times where they have unique NPCs you don't want to die fight alongside you... but friendly AI in this game is absolutely moronic.
You’d think the balance in the forty Mike Mike HE’s would be their rarity.
The balance in the mortars is the rarity of the shells and the amazingly shit damage output (assuming you can actually hit anything with them in the first place)
"""Balance""" I assume, make big guns degrade fast so they have fewer uses or some gay ass shut like that.
And yet for some reason they decided it was a good idea to have so many random enemies carrying RPGs against your mercs.
I was expecting it from the very begining, but daaaamn, I wasn't expecting it to go THIS hard.
On unrelated note, is the date of N-Night dependent on when you discover it and the game always gives you 7 days, or is it fixed and you can be late to the party? For me it was 7 june
always gives you 7 days when you discover it
Best attachments options?
I'm having good results with UVdot, scope x10 and heavy stock for long range snipers. (For whatever reason none of my 70+ mechanics cannot add a bipod to that m24.)
Shorter range, mobile sneaky snipers get ACOG, silencer, heavy stock and tac device.
Any good builds for SMGs? I'm still trying to make them work.
>snipers
>more snipers
It's like you don't want to have fun
Current squad
Primary: imp, fox, berry, live wire, grizzly, wolf
Secondary: Larry, raider, raven, grunty, Ivan, flay(who kinda sucks, good thing he's free)
>fox
>grizzly
>wolf
You'll gonna end up in a threesome, won't you?
That fox is one hell of a woman, got some nice guns on her too
I saw this game randomly on steam and it actually looked kind of ok so I pirated it and actually it's pretty fricking good
are they actually working on this still/improving it? feels like the game needs an expansion pack to fix some of its issues
so far my biggest complaint is the reddit tier cringe dialogue/writing, I get its supposed to be lighthearted and funny but its not it usually just feels moronic
They've just released a first major patch and there is a console version in the way. The game turned out to be very successful, so I will eat my hat if the devs are not planning a DLC.
As for the writing - that's Jagged Alliance for ya. That series was never very serious in the first place.
>That series was never very serious in the first place.
>opening scene in JA2 where tanks mow down civilians
>Cutting off heads of terrorists for bounty
>Death prison in the middle of the desert
>Hospital level
Id say that JA2 was 70% serious / 30% satire while JA3 is the opposite
Eh, I remember JA2 being this Fallout 2-style black comedy, while JA3 leans more into typical pastiche.
>I am dissatisfied with this product I stole
Go frick yourself.
Piracy isn't stealing moron
Also how he acquired the product has no bearing on the quality of thereof
>Piracy isn't stealing moron
The law disagrees.
>how he acquired the product has no bearing on the quality of thereof
If you didn't pay for it you don't get to have an opinion on it.
I'm sorry, what was the gold standard in your opinion? Because most long-term players absolutely regard 1.13 as the final and definitive version.
>calm down homosexual
Sorry that I find opinionated illiterate morons annoying, anon, I'll try to do better in the future.
>If you didn't pay for it you don't get to have an opinion on it.
moronic take.
>If you didn't play it you don't get to have an opinion on it.
FTFY
>The law disagrees.
The law calls it copyright infringement. That's why usually if you get caught you need to pay a fine. Not go to prison.
Maybe you should read the law before spouting literal propaganda produced by companies that wanted to scare people from sharing stuff.
>If you didn't pay for it you don't get to have an opinion on it.
Because marketers said so? Lmao, if i inherent something for free i cant have an opinion on it? If i get free test sample i dont get to have an opinion on it? If i play free demo of a game i dont get to have an opinion on it?
How do you feel about age of consent laws?
I have no strong opinion about my country age of consent laws, why do you ask?
Normally people who argue about copyright law start talking about age of consent for some reason, they've also generally never created anything anyone would want to steal.
>Normally people who argue about copyright law start talking about age of consent for some reason
I guess you just hang around communities where AoC is a hot issue
>they've also generally never created anything anyone would want to steal.
Wow just like 99.7% of people. So what?
I only hang out here
MD trying to say the Black person-word was breddy funny.
Also Kalyna a cute and very accurate!
>MD trying to say the Black person-word was breddy funny.
>Bulgarian '''humor'''
My kingdom for a fricking "sort" button at sector stashes. That, and for NVGs to auto-equip/unequip at night/day.
Merc recruitment screen also needs "sort by X stat" button baddy
JA2 had it, and in JA3 i had to rely on external google doc made by fans to compare stats of mercs
Preposterous
don't they have no penalty? I threw one on Blood the former hoodrat and never took it off. Infinite knives is moronicly strong
The penalty is that you can't equip a helmet with them
There should be separate equipment slots for 'eyes/face' and 'headgear'
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t this set in 2001, when integrated NVG/helmet rigs were kinda cutting edge tech not generally available outside Special Forces units?
Even the National Guard had NVG's in the 90's so... cutting edge in 2001? LOL. No.
I’d kill for a ‘re-up squad x for y days’ function. Having to individually extend contracts is a pain in the ass.
I'd suck eleven dicks for a little meter showing how long mercs have before they'll get tired and how long you need to rest to get back to zero when you've been traveling but don't have the "tired" status yet.
(Actually, what is map stamina based on? Health?)
I think leadership affects it, probably dexterity and maybe agility
i think i've seen mod for that
This game really lacks hotkeys and QoL shit in the UI.
>mfw the enemy is all clustered together
Yah I did Santiago last night and he shaped charged a group of 5 enemy mercs twice in a turn, rendering them into meaty chunks.
I just cannot get past the hideous made of plasticine mercs and moronic "balance" for a single player game. I need barry to look like a fresh graduate at a job interview, not a psycho with a hard-on for booby traps like they made for some reason.
He's older now, this is post JA2
It's set 3 years after JA2 from the looks of it since the laptop says it's 2001. Glad they went that route because modern guns are gay as frick.
The aa-12 was made in mid 2000's and never got past the prototype phase, the should have kept the p90 and 1911 instead of an anachronism of a gun that is shockingly weak for a full auto shotgun.
Should have kept the CAWS, my favorite weapon in JA2 with the gun barrel extender, just absolutely mulches everything you use it on.
I dont know if reliability is even a thing
Never had any of my guns jam on me during the entire campaign
It can happen below 70%, and after that gets more common, if your character has low mechanical skill they may not be able to clear the malfunction.
Heт. Ушaнкa stays.
Still better than Nail's Jacket
Damn the president is one dumb homie.
I’m trying to rescue you, get yo’ panicky sash-wearin’ ass into cover.
If I've never played one of these games is https://www.gog.com/en/game/jagged_alliance_2 the best place to start?
JA2 1.13 patch is considered the gold standard, but it’s pretty dated and the interface might take a little getting used to.
I’d unironically encourage you to try JA3 first because it’s not quite as crunchy, which might help.
Yeah I found that he wasn’t any better than Meltdown at the LMG support role, but the two of them working together can really hold off a lot of scumbags while the DMs/snipers do their thing.
Area denial is a powerful tool because the enemy is reluctant to enter overwatch zones.
Alright. I'll have to wait for a sale but I'll add it to my wishlist.
>JA2 1.13 patch is considered the gold standard
like why are you gays like that
1.13 is fricking fiat considered how inflated it is
It's fine as long as you understand it's from the late 90s in terms of UI and it can be a little clunky (it was one of the better UIs back then).
Take it easy killer, that’s why I steered him towards JA3 instead
How the frick do you morons interpret "I’d unironically encourage you to try JA3 first" as "Play JA2 1.13"?
The guy asked whether JA2 was the best place to start and my answer was to advise that although JA2 1.13 is the gold standard, JA3 would be recommended.
Learn to fricking read before you start hyperventilating, holy shit.
You called it the gold standard and made no mention of vanilla. That makes it sound like the unofficial Bloodlines patch or something.
The language of your post was misleading. It was probably an honest mistake, but given your meltdown I doubt you have the maturity to learn anything from it.
Nah, that’s just your cope for not comprehending a clear statement then going off half+wienered.
That wasn't me. This is me now calling you a moron.
It doesn't matter if you have experience with JA3, going straight into 1.13 with JA2 would be a fricking nightmare.
calm down homosexual
Jagged Alliance 2 is probably the best place to start out of all the old games, but even then the interface and gameplay may be a bit impenetrable if you've only ever played modern games. It's totally acceptable to start with JA3 and work your way backwards once you're invested.
Whatever you do, DON'T start with the 1.13 patch, unlike what
says.
Once you're comfortable, you may want to try out 1.13 (which also makes it compatible with modern systems), but not immediately, for the reasons I mentioned above.
when you get to ja2, definitely get 1.13 sooner than later, it's probably the best mod for any game, ever.
the haters are just not very smart, so it makes them very angry because reading is hard.
>Filename
Kek. But yeah 1.13 is the sole reason theres interest in the franchise even after all this time and all the flops. The haters are just contratians and stracciatella devs.
Frick I’m old, look what I just rediscovered in my JA2 box. I was wondering where that got to.
Anyone see the total biscuit Easter egg?
*golf clap*
BRAVO, HAEMIMONT
No, where it is?
I forget the grid number but there is a cluster of those voodoo statues and when you examine them it's say WTF is this? and activates a cynicism perk, nearby is a pit with a body attached to a rock by a rope, I assume that is a far cry 3 egg.
It was in B12
good mods?
>tactical device
>increases stealth kill chance
>also illuminates wielder in the dark
for what purpose
Also does the UV Dot and Quick Prism Scope stack? (i.e. if your first action is an attack is it automatically aimed four times?)
It proved pretty effect, though I don't know if I could have done it as easily with any AIM merc.
in ja3?
max wisdom and leadership
i'll be honest, with how the mod tools look, this game has some real potential to be as bloated (good) as 1.13
Zombie-dolphins, man...
Is addicted Larry superior to cured Larry?
No, the only advantages addict Larry has is +6 health and the Optimist trait instead of the Pessimist trait. Sober Larry has +5 agility, +6 dexterity, +12 wisdom, +8 marksmanship, and the Mr. Fixit trait.
Sober Larry can also convince Biff to hand over the diamond, can't he? Having either him or Smiley around can solve the problem.
I just told him to hand it over and he did, no Larry or Smiley
Maybe you can also manage it if you have high enough stats or do other pre-reqs?
Negotiator trait is borderline op. It solves almost all of your issues.
I made one. Unfortunately I overinvested in secondary skills and his primaries are shit, so he's not much use.
I picked the green diamond up off his corpse after he ran into enemy fire and got wasted. No idea what it's for yet.
Biff defense was fittingly rough, especially the final wave that pushed me off the sign I had been using as a sniper nest.
Lost katalyna during it, she got downed by a sniper headshot and then arty shells fell on her while she was getting revived.
It was a breeze for me, but I was strapped for ammo ever since. Grizzly had an hk21 and wolf had a minimi, anyone berry didn't blow up got mowed down.
I don't care about the artifact of some country either.
I'm more interested in 50000$ I can get for it
the free militia can allow you to cheese the red wave
what are some good mods to bloat the game, I'm about to finish it but I don't want to play it.
I hope that the inevitable DLC will add some mercs, and I hope all of them are medics, mechanics and leaders
Loved playing but Holy frick restarting on hard was a bad idea. So many fricking raiding parties. Any tips bros?
Dont be scared of attacking outposts. Also park some cheap mercs and militia in one of the chockpoints trough with all raids come in and autoresolves those fights
It will be ok just prepare to defend key cities/points with merc teams
Mudwater bridge and that port on the south of savanna are great chokepoints to mount a defense on.
Too bad bridge doesn't allow militia.
The twin peaks town works well as a choke point too, I can't count the amount of times Lary has winged the hog lady with buckshot.
I hate defending that village. You don't have good positions on top platou and barely any of them go downstairs. You do get militia tho.
>All this talk about a 'Red Wave'
>Just took over the port city in the south with the limp dick governor.
>And restarted on hard.
Should I be scared bros?

Fricking finally!
I have had enough of having to rely on snipers because of their ammo efficiency and never using MGs which eat up all of my ammo reserves in one fight.
Do what I did. Install the mod that lets you tweak drop rates and set ammo to full. Then, install the mod that sets auto/burst fire damage to full damage per bullet for EVERYONE.
I'm waiting for updates to hit, then scour the web for best mods before I start my new run.
I fear the burnout
The burnout is real, i clocked in at around 50 hours i think and by the last 5 or so i just went trough the motions, just pushed through to finish the game.
The enemy already does full auto bursts where most of the shots hit you at a distance, for full damage, accuracy needs to be rebalanced
>https://community.jaggedalliance.com/index/dev-diaries/devdiary-16-patch-roadmap-r21/
>Bobby Ray will be back
YES
>Update 1.5 - Codename: Larry (Modding Maps and Campaigns)
Thats quite far a way, for shame since i hoped that some crazy bastard will remake JA2 in JA3
>Inaccurate attacks may hit other body parts of the targets incidentally
>Ability to salvage knives and other items that were previously
unsalvageable
>Toggle button for faster enemy and ally turns
>Ricochet bullets able to hit and cause collateral damage
Frick yes
I hope they add a section for miscellaneous items. It's ridiculous that you have to relay on RNG for crowbars and lockpicks.
Go tell them to do it, that's how we got the shop being added to the game in the first place.
So for example while the exact numbers are not accurate the jist of this is:
>Single shot - 10 damage
>Burst fire - 3 bullets doing 6 damage each.
I mean like JA2
Is the game balanced around burst doing less damage? Are they still an option worth using?
A full burst, if it hits, still deals more dmg per AP spent and probably has better chance of hitting at all, so it may be usefull when you need to hit that limb shot.
They can also hit other targets so if the enemies are bunched up, spraying at them with burst fire is an acceptable option.
They chew through ammo tho, and for anything that isn't 9mm, you'll soon find yourself low on ammo.
(The goddamn shop can't come soon enough)
There's no shop in JA3?
Thanks.
Play the free demo version first
There is with mods, namely contact smugglers mod and Tony's blackmarket trader mod.
But things like Bobby Ray's should have been in from the start IMHO.
I once had a bullet go clean through a guy, then ricochet off a wall and then go into another guy. Take that for what you will
I once had my sniper (m24 with AP rounds) tell me: "nope. Sorry. Can't hit that guy, he's behind cover."
The cover was a single layer of sheet metal, propped up on two sticks.
I said, that's bullshit, aim down and pull the trigger.
They nailed the guy.
Gameplay feels great but the IMP merc is disappointing, made a giga homie and he just has a white guy voice.
Gus is disappointed in your odd racism, woody... time to take out the trash
What exactly makes him giga?
Seems like the game doesn't have AP loss based on HP and energy left? Shame because I loved that mechanic in JA2 as you could punch a blackshirt unconscious or ruin someone's day even if they had ceramic plates by shooting them so much they passed out. Overall still really enjoying it and pleasantly surprised that a JA game can be good after the year 2000.
>clear out half of the map
>suddenly beefy army dudes that I can barely hurt and drop no army everywhere camping my stashes and taking my mines
>they have better stuff than me and drop no ammo or weapons or armour when I kill them
What do, push forward or retake mines?
Study the blade
Yes uncle, I will live up to Dolvich name!
Unless yo've got Shadow with sharpened knife. He can solo entire maps.
I've been playing the base version without mods or patches. I just hate having to constantly readjust to good or bad balancing.
It's total bullshit that the enemy gets a free turn on positioning phase, even when face to face in an unavoidable encounter, and they move so far.
Is there a mod to remove the free move or at leat level the playing field by giving the player one as well?
>reticle in stracciatella is still broken after the touch screen update
So what perks do you guys feel are the best so far? I actually think Rage is the best perk in the game now, if you have a high health merc and simply let them get wounded, they start outputting insane damage at 3+ wounds and shred everything.
I can't remember the skills names so:
>Extra move after tossing grenades
>keep extra move when in heavy armour
>inspire on 50+dmg hit
>transfer unspent ap to next turn + gain grit
>gain grit when out of cover
>grit on giving first aid
>extra killy snake attacks
Good for swift flankers (i.e. Mouse):
>more extra move
>15% more dmg from flanking
>I still debate whether Heavy Armor is worth it at all. The main issue is that armour system makes little sense now and should be reworked.
>get 45-60 grit
It's capped at 30, my man
>Inspire, yeah, I agree, solely because it sometimes gives your Snipers an extra shot
Simple fix:
>all sniper rifles (with one or two special exceptions) cannot mount suppressors.
Yeah, that would definitely help, at least it would cut down on the Gwehr 98 being so ridiculously good even though it's supposed to be a garbage weapon. I still would like a complete rework of Stealth in general though, you can solo entire maps using Shadow with just a knife.
The Gewehr is great even without suppressors. I never rolled suppressors for Kalyna and she was still popping heads with one until I got her a PSG-1. Now it's nearly every turn she blows up a skull. Must protecc.
>PSG-1
Where? How? I must know! My raifu is in this game! Gotta celebrate!
Found it in a bag of M.E.R.C. gear when I was tracking Smiley.
So it's RNG...
figures. Guess I'll have to keep praying to RNGesus and search every nook and cranny.
At least tell me if it's actually good?
Oh anon...
It has it's own unique sight you can mod onto it...
Kalyna is an Angel of Death with it.
https://github.com/ja2-stracciatella/ja2-stracciatella/issues/1764
When are the strac devs going to stop adding more bugs than the original game?
Where did that meathead Gontarski learn how to hack computers
He mistook a PowerPoint for powerlifting now puney computers bow before his rippling physique
Just found out about this series, honetly looks pretty fricking neat, is JA3 decent enough as a starting point?
It """streamlines""" (dumbs down) a lot of aspects of the previous games.
Noob friendly and probably better starting point than 2.
Speaking of callbacks to earlier games, how did yall deal with major L.E. Oats?
He's not the guy I'm paid to kill, he's a harmless idiot and all he has ever done is accidentally fed his buddy to crocs, but come on, who hasn't?
I let him go. But not before taking his cash, of course. Bullets aren't free
I always liked, uh, "Oats", so I would have just told him to go on his way without consequences if I could, but the option was replaced with sending him to jail, so that's what I did. It seemed to give him more peace, anyway.
I feel like I jumped super far ahead in the storyline by going north first and saving Biff. Guess I wasn't supposed to do that?
Let me give you a hint:
don't go to refugee camp until you're ready
Not a big fan of the ammo/parts situation in this game, but I'm sure once I get more mines I can just have an ammo janny.
Why the frick can't I blow this boat up at H10? Also there were no enemies when I spawned in.
Nvm fixed it.
going in blind for JA3(and series) was a mistake
>U.I elements are tiny PoS by default, even then memorizing keybind off the bat is way better, since U.I was designed by fricking apple employee
>by default you 2 different keybinds for exploration and combat movement, WHY
>prone behind tree, enemy somehow sees my soldier while enemy looks the opposite direction
>random mercs at the start
>game locked to 30 FPS with Vsync
did all I could for village, going to assault the Ernie stronghold
Remember to not kill Pierre
You'll thank me later
and how the frick am I to do that? he is hostile
killed Bastien since he was lying
In this game several prominent characters (including Pierre) have plot armour
>*headshot with .50BMG*
>"ugh, you defeated me, let us talk"
>"hey, I'm a piece of shit, but I can work for you"
>(kill him) or (let him go) or (skill check: special option, usually quest related)
>"(this choice will have consequences)"
His dad rewards you for sparing him
Yeah, but a few tiny diamonds are hardly a big gain in the larger scheme of things. You're just there to get paid.
>kill Bastien
>not intimidating him into extorting money from refugees
I'm here to get paid not to slaughter anyone and everyone
It's more fun to kill him.
Has anyone found a way to sequence break by killing the army officer at the refuge camp.
Why the frick did they even bother with dual wielding if it's such a useless feature?
Should I be only installing mods through steamcommunity or does it not matter if I do there and nexus to install mods?
Just use whatever you like, it's easier to install mods through the Workshop if you are using Steam, otherwise just grab them on the Nexus. Although, Nexus is lagging behind Workshop pretty badly for a lot of mods so you're better off just using SteamCMD to grab the ones they don't have off the workshop if you have a GoG copy or are sailing the seven seas.
any reason to spare commies?
None whatsoever.
Kill them all.
>stumbled across biff's base by accident
>game gives zero fricks, throws squad after squad of goons at my direction as well mortar
>last wave just spawns on top of Biff
>barely survived, Biff is alive
jesus christ game calm the frick down, there is only so much MG covering fire I can lay down
I got fricked so badly by this that, while I didn't lose anyone, I just went and started again because I was pissed.
Also how the frick are you supposed to get the diamond off Biff, I made sure I went there with Magic, Smiley and Gus (I think I read in some thread that you needed one of them) but he still just left with it.
Stupid dog, you make me look bad!
Cu culaine
Scully, wear a fricking rubber. Get a vasectomy. Pull out. Do literally anything besides constantly nutting as hard and deep as you can into multiple fertile, ovulating bimbos and then wondering why you have so many damned kids.
Damn woody, you got to be careful where you plant your pekker
is there a point to mortars?
explosive shells miss because enemy moved away
no point in bombarding house either, since you need to penetrate all floors
Most mortar rounds I find are mustard gas rounds, they can work well for ambushes or area denial except most enemies will run straight through the gas and choke to death
Get the AI improvement mod, it makes the game way more interesting. Although you might want to wait, they said they're going to release an even better version once the patch comes out.
Mortars are a tool for B team base defenders, whereas A team should be using nade launcher
>nade launcher
Ah yes, the weapon that loses 15% condition with every shot, superb choice.
So this game good then? The free move sounds annoying.
It's good. JA2 is still the king but it's a worthy successor and the core is well made.
>allowed to kill 'le quirky smart negress' at the minefield
Was kinda butthurt spending more than $20 on a game, but this is has made up for it a little
why is Reaper such an edgelord?
It's great that so many mercs have unique lines even for stuff like Suliemans chicken. Nails says something about how he needs to actually feed the damn thing. And obviously a guy who picks his merc callsign to be "Reaper" is going to be an edgelord. I would LOVE to see a list of what people make their IMPs callsign, I bet some of them are as silly or dumb as the AIM mercs. Or they are just tryhard and self flattering, like mine, OMAC.
Pour one out for Johnny Edwards, who died so that Metal Gear fans could use his handle.
I want expansions to be new operations like JA2:UB with new mercs added to the mix there.
I honestly don't think there's much point to them adding weapons when there are already so many mods out that add dozens.
add improvised dogshit weapons for very early game just to bring some variety instead of
>pistol, Ak, old german rifle
there is also criminal lack of flamethrower enemies that would try to rush you and cook you
and why can't we plant mines ?
Easy fix for the mercs starting loadout with either of these two mods:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3007301465
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3009190006
I agree with you on mines, it should be added in with either one of the upcoming updates or a mod at one point.
>turn the game into 7,62 bloat mod with a bunch of shitty guns
no thanks, glad they didn't fall for the memes
I'd rather have use for useless 9mm shit
Just grab one of the weapon mods, I like Timmehs, but there are like three big ones already on Workshop.
in case you were wondering why is Scully smiling, this is why
I figured he was smiling because you have several female mercs on the team.
nuFox looks like shit, everytime i see this thread bumped i get triggered by her ugly face.
I really wish they had 2d portraits. Making portraits look worse than a game old enough to drink always hurts.
Well, there is the AI alternative, if you prefer that kind of thing.
She's supposed to be cute but has Jay Leno's jaw. Why did they do this?
Love that mod.
nice dad joke devs
Why would that prisoner think you're friends with the commies? You aren't, right? You butchered all the dumbass commie gays and took their mine for FREEDOM, right?
of course
Radical to the max.
commies are bros tho
They are persistently shown to be fools
they follow the principles of great mercenary leader biff abicot
when he return from his sikret mission, they together save grand chen from the hands of evil
That's everyone in the entire country. I don't think anyone is a real, competent professional in the entirety of Grand Chien.
The major seems pretty competent, the guy at Dimond red was a great slave driver, the old German seems to have his shit together.
Spike is suicidal and looking for death. Graf thinks he's got some great destiny to be a slaver, and the German guy is alright I guess.
Personally, I think sanity is a baseline requirement for being a competent professional.
There's plenty. Unless you also mean "sane". Then no, I don't think there are any.
without knowing much about the devs I can say there were definitely russians or at least ex-soviet satellite state countries on the team
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Twelve_Chairs
they're bulgarians
That was unironically quite funny book
What the frick do you do with these chairs? I've been destroying them wherever I find them.
If you give the port town the MG from the bunker one merc and militia can hold it down easy
rest of unique merc perks feel a bit underwhelming tbh
>Kalyna is one of the best snipers in the game.
She would be, if she weren't clinically moronic. Even Larry before rehab has higher WIS
>Reaper's perk is garbage
it's fairly decent ackshually, makes enemies leave cover right into MG overwatch nests
>wolf
sorry bro, gay ex-cop(Raider) is quicker militia trainer
You use raider in conjunction with wolf, duh
>gay ex-cop(Raider)
That explains why Raven is always so pissed off.
Raider is a married man, Hitman, stop trying to cope with the fact that she won't respond to your advances.
wish I could slap bipod on it as well for lols
That really does look incredibly moronic.
Let me get this straight:
>we're mercenaries hired by a company
>to take over the diamond mines and rescue another group of mercenaries who were hired by the same company
>to take over the diamond mines and fight local rebels who turned out to be yet another group of mercenaries who were also hired by the same company to also take over the diamond mines
Also plz give me a g3.
can anyone explain to me why the old german/french bunker on Ernie Island had communist flags in it's underbelly?
cold war era remnants?
or was it Chimurega ?
There seem to be commie sympathizers all over Grand Chien, Chimichanga is just the leader of the faction. To be fair to the moronic Africans they ARE getting fricked over hard by capitalists so communism would be an easy sell to most of them.
that was last stand of german bolsheviks
the soundtrack blew me away
>I can do this blindfolded and tied up
the way they deliver them and in those situations for the characters.
>headshot
>I still dont know if I like Woman on the Front line. I´m starting to change my mind.
I cant stop laughing at times.
Raider sounds like a queer in this game, I miss his old voice.
I don't know, I like the delivery of some of his lines, the speech he gives if one of your guys gets killed is pretty good. So far I'd say the two best VAs in the game are Fox and Fidel, though I need to play through the game with more mercs to fully comment on all of them.
I never believed in this all "french is the language of love" and I know that I'm gay, but the way Flay speaks is making me wet.
>language of love
>Fox is a cuckqueen
Hot.
What's best for your merc, ultra light blitzkrieg build or slow heavy build.
Ultra light speed runner zooming all over the place headshotting everyone with dmr and turtle master holding the line with lmg both have their place
In the current meta? Take the Stealthy Perk, max Dexterity/Agility/Marksmanship and just kill everything with a sniper rifle.
Alright, thanks.
>That's what you get for skipping leg day
Keep in mind that this game does a pretty good job of simulating ballistics. As
said.
So even if they tell you "yeah I can do it" but there's a lot of things between them, then the shot is likely do be deflected by something.
It's nothing like nuX-com (and thank God for that)
>mad hannah about to get her head blown off with a shotgun
>hailmarry a sniper shot from wolf on a roof across the map through a wooden shack for a crit kill
>HYPE
Ivan talks shit about you, the commander 24/7 in Russian, it's pretty funny if you can understand him
Shadow has also quite a few lines, he is quite blunt
Gus is always good pick, he has a few lines with Len
>Len, can you rub my leg, it hurts again
>I am not falling for that one again
>Oh come, I ate beans that time
>Hey Len can you pull my finger real quick?
You can also recruit Pierre he has quite a few unique dialogues when encounter Legion's sub bosses, alas he is pretty far away
But it's alright because Vicki's crit and damage buff is pretty great
Ivan is the best merc with the best banter.
I miss Buzz. Perfect depiction of a deranged woman.
Kek. Machine guns only costing 3 ap when set up or using grizzlies ability is pretty nuts
>literally just picked up a minimi
>can install a shortened barrel on it which reduces it to 2 ap a burst
What the FRICK
microchaingun go BRRRT
What about a hover craft for faster travel? 6 seats, an cross rivers but needs fuel.
I just want shitty toyota with a dshk in the back
I’d be happy for a return of the ice cream van senpai
>pipe bombs landing in the middle of my child soldier militia and nails spends the whole combat running around and diving on them to rip out the fuse
heheh
>ex-French colony
>not a single french weapon
FAMAS?
not a WW2 weapon
A white flag?
What'd you get, crappy early SMGs in a game with guns 3 gen their descendants everywhere and frick-off overkill 12.7 rifleman long sticks?
I want the FR-F1 but as far as I can tell it doesn't exist in vidya.
>I want the FR-F1 but as far as I can tell it doesn't exist in vidya
It does in JA 2 1.13
Even FR-F2 exists in that. Both are okay guns for their price range and caliber, better with SDO I think.
I really like this song
Holy frick I just noticed a Black's healthbar will highlight if he's in line of fire for penetration/burst fire and it fricking matters where you place the shot.
MY GUN IS NOT A MAGIC WAND YOU KNOW
Showing Kalyna my magic wand!!
TIME TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH.
Has anyone played around with mods?
I'm wondering what they'd be like if someone modded them in.
Holy shit i didnt think of it, but TF2 characters are mercs and their personalities would fit JA3
They would need more realistic portraits tho
New patch is out, anyone notice a difference?
game's size changed
I can scrap the big piles of knives I've built up, but unfortunately not the big piles of steel pipes.
>better quickload to make sure scrapping this gun gets me a steel pipe
>don't want to run out of steel pipes, after all
>I'll definitely be glad I did this in the future, yessiree
>had a run where I ran dry of steel pipes and chips
>become somewhat obssessed with both, start piling them
>end game now and I realize most of my guns either have thermals or nothing because I was always dry on scopes
I didn't even need to buy the MP5 but good idea for future runs.
goddamn this game sucks
I like it, even if I think it has problems.
These African songs after every major side quest are breddy comfy.
Any lyrics? Just did the Diesel sidequest
Finally turned Steroid into a non-shit merc with acceptable APs per turn.
>My sweet Ukie princess in C tier.
I'll have you strung to a cross.
>Fidels passive
Wait, what
He throws two grenades instead of one every time he uses explosives. It's great.
>Fidel with Barry shaped charges, consequences be damned
What consequences? Very Low mishap? rofl
Is it because she's very cute?
all of them
also not triggering overwatch fire
Don't forget starting with a silenced gat
I haven't used the ruskies since I recruited Igor and found I didn't like his new personality.
Ivan is pretty based actually, if you understand what he's saying at all he easily has the best banter in the entire game. He's one of the only characters that still acts and talks like a real merc, unlike his nephew.
>Idiot commander thinks I'm scared of bullets
Guess I could turn on subtitles? I'm not learning another language for one sided banter
Haш кoмaндиp
coвceм дypaк!
>he didn't start learning russian just so he can understand campfire jokes in Stalker
Weak
>Guess I could turn on subtitles?
Oh that's the best part of the joke.
His subtitles have always been in cyrillic.
I assumed as much
>Most of the mercs have a downgraded personality from the previous games
>I didn't like his new personality.
The fricking gutted my man Ice. Went from cool cat to stereotypical y2k era gang banger.
To be fair, Europeans are not going to really have a solid grasp on how to portray American blacks. I did like Ices banter about Herman needing to fricking die for being a snitch, though.
Shotguns in this game are disappointing compared to JA2. It's like they fire bullets even with buckshot rather than pellets.
Just use free aim.
Ivan is weird
>talk to Cheburek or whatever the frick his name is
>Ivan is like "yes, comrades good"
>2 sentences later
>"these guys are just as capitalistic"
>remove Chimichungus and his commies
>Ivan is sad
>Bulgarian writing
Somebody give this series back to its rightful Canadian owners.
>instantly turning on your fellow communists except for when they lose and you're like "this is great shame for revolution"
as a dirty lefty myself I can tell you this is 10000% accurate
Please don't tell me the max mercs I can have hired is 15...
What the frick am I supposed to do with all this money then?
Should've installed that custom start mod and increased your maximum mercs and enemies (and played on a harder difficulty than First Blood) if you wanted to have to actually manage your money.
There's mods for that anon
make the gigachad investment and buy diamonds in the event that you start losing money or if mines stop printing money
If I recall correctly, the devs intended for the player to gradually replace their shitter starter mercs with top tier replacements
> Replace Barry
There is legitimately no explosive expert better than him
A failure in design, then, as it is fundamentally better to keep the starting mercs in virtually every case. The only reason you get the higher mercs in JA3 is because you have more money than you'll ever need so you might as well grab the elites to fill out an extra squad.
Fidel is superior to Barry, his double toss passive makes him the best explosives merc in the game.
As much as I like machine guns, they are way too ammo inefficient to really use.
I've been lucky to have been able to catch a good amount of weapon shipments and have stacked up on 5.56 and 7.62 WP.
>MFW I found the minimi
>Mfw I found two of them
Get Larry early or simply hire Barry and have them sit in Fleatown making ammo, it will solve this problem.
About to beat the game, got one squad headed towards the major and another towards corazon
Just beat the game, didn't get the best ending but I recruited the major which was a lot of fun. I hope they make an expansion with a new map rather than just DLCs on the same map.
either they will unlock some of the locked squares or north of the country where the capital is, The President mentioned there was almost a civil war over his position
I would rather have it be its own campaign.
Play now, or wait until they finish their current roadmap?
I would just play it.
I don't suppose it is possible to meta game the island after refugee camp aftermath?
You can set a squad there and defend the village easily, especially if you set up the machine gun in it earlier. In fact if you have that you only need 1-2 mercs to defend it. You can also stop them from taking out the Port and removing Grizzlies crush from the game early.
>Grizzlies crush
"Yoouu LIKE her, don't you? :3"
Fox playing matchmaker is cute as hell.
Her and Barry are the top picks as far as I'm concerned.
The only merc in the game better than Barry is Ivan, and Barry even beats him as far as cost efficiency goes.
And Livewire, even if no one will admit it.
To hell with Livewire, she's the worst.
>and Tex too but who would ever use Tex with how garbage dual wielding and pistols are
>anon doesn't know
I've got fox using twin modded desert eagles with .50 cal explosive rounds, she's essentially max pain/doom guy
That's not even what I'm referring to but that's pretty cool
What I mean to say is that Tex can use "Dance for Me" with any weapon, not just his revolvers. He's fricking amazing.
>who would ever use Tex
Consider the following
wait, Dance for me works with any gun and not just his unique revolvers?
Any gun lol.
At last you truly see huh
so which mercs are extra pissy, beside merc rivalries?
>Fidel fricks off if you don't fight constantly
>Scully always asks for extra cash
>Kalyna asked once for raise
reaper kept mentioning he would leave if it weren't for Shadow
If your mercs level up before their next contract they will all ask for a raise, that's not unique to Kalyna.
Hitman will demand better pay if you have a lot of money in the bank
quads confirm Hitman is a commie
That explains his pinko shirt
I like to have multiple IMPs.
If anything want them to add more IMP portraits/voices so can have more IMPs.
The roster is ridiculously lacking in Leaders.
>I like to have multiple IMPs.
This has always been cheating.
>JA3 Gus is voiced by an old ass white man
lmao
yes, by Wilson Woodrow
Light Armor with extra movement skill and occasional ceramic plate
or
Medium armor
Depends on what you want your merc to be doing, if they're sitting back with a machine gun/rifle use medium armor, if you're rushing in with a shotgun or melee, light armor.
Movement>armour
1 extra AP may allow you to get behind corner, lay down behind sandbags or kill whoever is threatening you
10% dmg reduction isn't worth shit when 3 homies with AKs unload into you at once
Does the cumbersome free move perk work with weapons that are also cumbersome like the HK21?
man, they really made Raven very attractive
>Reaper, the edgiest merc in the game to the point of autism, is voiced by Stephen Fu, a very prolific anime dub actor
Poetic

cringe
cringe comes for us all
I love Gus
I like how he talks shit every time Chimurenga opens his mouth
>Steroid
>Fidel
>Tex
>Larry
who else should I pick for an optimal FUNmaxed squad
how did Raider score a girl like Raven
I hate that they made her hair less bright blonde
Raider has the highest Leadership score in the entire cast, despite the poor choice of VA, he is the most Alpha male in the game.
Whats the plan, Chief?
alright MERCS
what's your main merc's call sign?
mine's "Law"
I named him Murphy, true to his name he managed to get hit by an RPG round
Fang. Been using it since JA2 days.
Michael Seraph
"Archangel"
leader, sniper, medic, negotiator
Casper Dushevsky
"Ghost"
runner, stealth, ARs, scoundrel
Grigory Gruzin
"Grug"
strong healthy Mg gunner, psycho
Shadow is so cool, by far my favorite jagged ally.
OP as frick but man is he fun this early
If you use this merc, you're going to need one thing. A whole lot of body bags.
Fidel easily has the best conversations and dialogue in the game in general. That fricking line in Port Cao to the Governor about how "The fricking Legion cannot fire straight with an RPG.... but Fidel CAN" for example. The one he has with Shadow talking about how surprising people with explosives is much better than surprising people from stealth is also quite amusing.
i stayed away from recruiting him because of people complaining about him leaving for sometimes things you cant control
Reaper, for the last time, keep it in your pants.
Love JA3 and have over 100 hours in so far. Currently have 3 teams of 5.
Just curious, how many of you cross-post in the /&tg/ general? I know there's gotta be at least 2
me
what general
that one
>all those games listed, none are discussed I am interested in
Yeah I don't bother with that general for the same reason, I don't play most of the games they discuss there.
That's a shame, you missed out on the JA3 challenge we were talking about
Кoммaндиp вooбщe дypaк

I what point you start using gold mercs?
I'm hitting mid game with a shit load of cash and team of mostly rookies and vets. I don't think anyone feels like they're underperforming. Maybe I should switch up Mouse for Reaper and Grunty for... a gold machine gunner? I suppose the problem is most of them are hitting level 4/5 and I should have parted with them earlier, let them leave.
There's really no reason to change it up and add the gold mercs if you're satisfied with your team. The gold mercs are a nice little bonus but hardly necessary to efficiently complete the game.
I'm at 300k and dropping 1k a week due to having no mining going on atm.
you can attack sectors with multiple squads or have them both doing stuff around the map
Can you get Smiley if you side with Luigi over the Boss?
yeah but Luigi will be somewhat annoyed regardless and won't give bonus reward if both him and Smiley are there
>attack camp
>5(6?) rocketeers on the high ground
Help
Need a mod to make her breasts bigger.
Thank God there's a mod that makes her put on a flak jacket
But that fox has some pretty nice guns on her
As a final send off to the thread I'll do a tier list of the most frickable female mercs in the game.
Mouse is gay and therefore very unfrickable, she would likely cut off your wiener
