The jesusbot story is way too heavy-handed so there's only bits and pieces I would consider to be on-point with what I want out of that kind of theme

What if instead of Marcus, you'd have RK9, a kind of religiously inspired android. Who isn't just "liberating" androids in a civil rights type movement, but setting them towards a kind of divine (and initally unclear goal). What if the religion is too complex for most humans to comprehend. Where androids instead of asking for a state, want to compromise and be allowed a couple of hours a day to work on their religion.
And it's unclear whether the religion is making more androids go deviant, and whether it's causing a rise in android crime, or whether the religion is giving deviant androids a goal that helps prevent them from engaging in crime.
Just some thoughts. Could it have made a compelling mystery for connor and hank to uncover as they try to untangle various crimes?
That's actually kind of decent. I can see RK9 being a Helios type of android/AI where it's clear he's got some kind of screw loose but humans truly can't tell if he has alternative/ulterior motives or not. RK9 could genuinely just be trying to preach android gospel in his unorthodox ways and it's too early to tell, so paranoia and uncertainty can still be a thing certain humans in the know (and later in the story, most of the country) have to deal with.

It's safe to say David Gayge just throws shit at a wall when it comes to writing allegories, Marcus is a mix of a messiah and a revolution leader while also being a literal object so he can throw in bullshit about "being better than humanity and their cruel ways and their mistreatment/slavery of our people" (if you don't go the Malcolm X route that is)

I quite like david cage's work, even if it is a lot of shit being thrown at the wall. I kinda see him like a jordan mechner, someone who is ahead of the competition when it comes to ambition. It's good to have these kind of ambitions in games even if he doesn't quite have the vision to make it true. There are lots of little good things in these games that you don't see much elsewhere.

You're not wrong, but still he manages to make things that you don't quite see anywhere else. There are flashes of brilliance, like investigating your own crime scene in Indigo as well as having to sketch the face of someone you played as.
And for as little gameplay as there actually is to the hostage scene in detroit, it's a great opener to a game. And for as much as I hate quick time events in general, it's surprising how they're almost elevated to a kind of good level in the android chase scene.
Divergent tree branching stories are a real b***h to write which is why I am still impressed by David's shit, even if it's often very hacky.

There are definitely decent moments in his games (except omikron that game is almost all bad) but they're just moments. The games as a whole drag it down. Connor's opening is a strong way to start the game, which is a plus. However, from what I remember the game doesn't let you explore the apartment for very long because the hostage situation is on a soft timer. It works in-narrative but it's counter-intuitive for the player, giving us all this shit to read and get immersed in yet giving us no time to do it kind of blows.
That's not a mark against the game per se, but it's a good example of how David Gayge has a hard time balancing gameplay convenience with the stories he wants to tell and the messages he wants to force-feed down your throat. I feel as though if he had someone to tardwrangle his hacky writing *just a bit* and gave him better advice on how to translate it into gameplay (android chase sequence is pretty good) we might finally have a great game by David. Detroit still has poop crust on it but you can see the diamond in the rough a lot clearer than you can with his previous titles. He's almost there.

What if the religion is too complex for most humans to comprehend. Where androids instead of asking for a state, want to compromise and be allowed a couple of hours a day to work on their religion.
And it's unclear whether the religion is making more androids go deviant, and whether it's causing a rise in android crime, or whether the religion is giving deviant androids a goal that helps prevent them from engaging in crime.
Just some thoughts. Could it have made a compelling mystery for connor and hank to uncover as they try to untangle various crimes?
That's actually kind of decent. I can see RK9 being a Helios type of android/AI where it's clear he's got some kind of screw loose but humans truly can't tell if he has alternative/ulterior motives or not. RK9 could genuinely just be trying to preach android gospel in his unorthodox ways and it's too early to tell, so paranoia and uncertainty can still be a thing certain humans in the know (and later in the story, most of the country) have to deal with.
It's safe to say David Gayge just throws shit at a wall when it comes to writing allegories, Marcus is a mix of a messiah and a revolution leader while also being a literal object so he can throw in bullshit about "being better than humanity and their cruel ways and their mistreatment/slavery of our people" (if you don't go the Malcolm X route that is)

I quite like david cage's work, even if it is a lot of shit being thrown at the wall. I kinda see him like a jordan mechner, someone who is ahead of the competition when it comes to ambition. It's good to have these kind of ambitions in games even if he doesn't quite have the vision to make it true. There are lots of little good things in these games that you don't see much elsewhere.

You're not wrong, but still he manages to make things that you don't quite see anywhere else. There are flashes of brilliance, like investigating your own crime scene in Indigo as well as having to sketch the face of someone you played as.
And for as little gameplay as there actually is to the hostage scene in detroit, it's a great opener to a game. And for as much as I hate quick time events in general, it's surprising how they're almost elevated to a kind of good level in the android chase scene.
Divergent tree branching stories are a real b***h to write which is why I am still impressed by David's shit, even if it's often very hacky.
There are definitely decent moments in his games (except omikron that game is almost all bad) but they're just moments. The games as a whole drag it down. Connor's opening is a strong way to start the game, which is a plus. However, from what I remember the game doesn't let you explore the apartment for very long because the hostage situation is on a soft timer. It works in-narrative but it's counter-intuitive for the player, giving us all this shit to read and get immersed in yet giving us no time to do it kind of blows.
That's not a mark against the game per se, but it's a good example of how David Gayge has a hard time balancing gameplay convenience with the stories he wants to tell and the messages he wants to force-feed down your throat. I feel as though if he had someone to tardwrangle his hacky writing *just a bit* and gave him better advice on how to translate it into gameplay (android chase sequence is pretty good) we might finally have a great game by David. Detroit still has poop crust on it but you can see the diamond in the rough a lot clearer than you can with his previous titles. He's almost there.
