This bores me to tears.
How did you guys do it?
Skyrim is boring too but at least the setting is more interesting.

Funny game
>but at least the setting is more interesting
LOTR was the the Game of Thrones of yesteryear.
did you try doing quests?
Yeah.
A little.
I went to that Oblivion gate and shit anf fought a bunch of nigglets throwing fireballs. I dunno man. This combat and world just not cutting it chief
Oblivions strong points are its atmosphere and quests. if they aren't hitting then the game simply may not be for (You)
you fricked up the main quest is the last thing you do go though the dark brotherhood quest line
This. You literally leave the sewers facing in the complete opposite direction of the first quest. At least spend 20 or 30 hours before you go there.
Zoom zoom.
fr fr this shit not bussin at all no cap on god RESPECTFULLY
Hey in Morrowind can Dagoth Ur fall into the lava?
I'm doing a level 1 no quests run and he's not around.
Yeah he can, but its scripted to happen when you destroy the heart. the room you first see him in doesnt even have lava
Cool.
I was going to ask why I keep dying like ten seconds after I destroy the heart but apparently that's because Fortify Health is fricked up.
Anyways, I ran the code patch again and ticked Fortify Max Health and destroyed the heart.
ive always wondered if you can make a spell to cast fortify health on an enemy and cause them to die in a similar manner
Because at the time there really wasn't anything like it. It had its flaws but just going around Cyrodiil dicking around was great
Nevermind I went down to the lava and he's in there.
Just do the sidequests and you've already experienced everything this game has to offer. No replayability whatsoever, I can't imagine stomaching this shit more than once.
>Skyrim is boring too but at least the setting is more interesting.
Jesus, the soundtrack alone makes the setting in Oblivion more interesting, but you're saying you prefer a frozen tundra to warm forests and woodlands?
>How did you guys do it
We don't play shit games like Oblivion
Oblivion is as bland as it gets
You break it until it's fun to dance in the yolky shell.
Honestly the only shit part about oblivion is the level scaling and you can "fix" that by setting down the difficulty or downloading a single mod. After that it's a pretty standard game with some really enjoyable quests. For a game of its scale that released on frickin consoles in 2006, I'd say it holds up alright.
The weapon skills are the same thing copypasted several times, and of course the combat system is barely a "system" at all.
You're not wrong, but oblivion wasn't really marketed on its combat, you buy it for the adventure and the world. If we're comparing it to Skyrim like in the OP, Skyrim's combat system is pretty lame too it's just flashier. There's something to be said for good presentation, but oblivion came out in 2006, I'm not gonna break balls over it.
I don't like how you've described a game mechanic that literally (literally) makes the game unplayable as merely 'shit'
Neither Morrowind or Skyrim has a problem like that
two options:
>stop being a zoomer and learn to appreciate soul
OR
>go full custom spellcaster and never look back
>at least the setting is more interesting
What terrible bait.
>hey guise, what if we made the map twice as big but it's nothing but bruma!
>that would be hilarious! we should also get rid of the acrobatics skill, just to make a game set in a mountainous region as boring as possible!
oblivion is fun just for the sheer fact it's pretty much one of a kind in being an open world 1st person action RPG that lets you jump around on everything. skyrim is completely gimped in all aspects regarding speed, height, and air movement - something vital and yet extremely rare in RPGs. especially a fricking series of RPGs where you become god after several levels and upgrades. yes, yes, morrowind did it too - but oblivion did it way fricking better, had a better engine for it, had an environment better suited for it, had perks that improved it over time, and didn't have geometry traps every 10 feet you could jump into and get stuck
just turn the difficulty down to 35-40%, major in heavy armor, 2 hand, restoration, acrobatics, and athletics, alchemy, and go ham. jumping around like a ninja and collecting every flower you see is the most kino experience you can get. i like to make a spell when i finally get into the university that pretty much is just a 50 point speed boost with increased two handed skill for like 10 seconds. morrowind lets you feel like some sort of psychotic god (mainly with mage cheese and knowledge of exploits), oblivion - out of the box - like a bull or a tiger, and skyrim, like a little b***h wearing paper armor and swinging nerf swords.
it's ironic to me that the PC of skyrim is really the strongest on paper and lore-wise out of all the elder scrolls PCs, but mechanically is the shittiest, weakest, and most boring of them.
> that lets you jump around on everything
Tfw you get the boots of spring heeled jack.
after nearly 2 decades i still haven't done the thieves guild quest line, i don't know why, it was always just too much of a pain in the ass waiting around for armand, going to the towns to sell shit to the brokers, even just stealing stuff. there's frick all to steal in oblivion that's worth the effort as far as i know - aside from maybe some very niche items in the market district, when you're fresh as a baby's ass out of the sewers and need literally anything better in terms of gear. it's also super autistic but i mainly don't like stealing or messing with shit in oblivion because i like how the game looks, and going back into barren or messy, shitty environments that i've caused is just sad to me
I enjoyed the freedom of "steal whatever you want until you have this much worth of stolen items". Made it easy to snatch things while going through quests. The later thieves guild quests have some cool stuff, but don't feel like you have to join the guild if you don't have fun playing as a thief. There's still the mages guild, fighter's guild, dark brotherhood, and arena.
>surviving the fall without the boots so you can keep them forever
Steal everything from the market district and you can sell enough to just be set for thieving for the rest of the playthrough.
that's what i mean, i buy and sell with those poor moronic NPCS, i don't like going into shops and shits kicked all over the floor or they're standing alone in empty rooms, looks sad and weird
>leave sewer
>plunder vilverin and kill everything inside
>dump all my shit at marketplace
>bingefight nearly the entire arena at once
>go straight to anvil and buy benirus manor and join fighter's guild
>do mage's guild recommendations too as i'm travelling between fighter's guild quests and side quests
>at some point then i'll probably accidentally murder someone and then do dark brotherhood
>finally run into main quest somehow, do that
>by then i'm cashed out and had my oblivion fill for the year
every single time. maybe next time i'll do a stealthy character. i like the quests and as you mentioned, the mechanics of the thieves' guild, i'm just either always a mage, fighter, or the chad battlemage hybrid
I don’t think I’ve ever played an Oblivion character that wasn’t a mage.
Anything you can do, you can do better with magic.
there is absolutely no reason not to use magic in a game that has magic, as long as it doesn't entirely lock you off from other things. i don't mind being kind of gimpy for the first few levels if it means i come out on top in the end with the tankiness of a sword'n'boarder and the utility of a wizard
I've beaten the main quest like 2 or 3 times, so I just skip it now bc the gates are pretty repetitive, plus I don't like the new ones popping up everywhere.
>or the chad battlemage hybrid
ooh, nice. What kind of skills? Or did you just go with the vanilla class?
this was almost my exact build: two handed (claymore, early-mid game i carry 1 steel and 1 silver for ghoulies), heavy armor (steel again as its the most aesthetic armor in the game, armor values can get fricked i just make shield enchants), restoration and destruction, alchemy, speechcraft (i like the minigame and npcs smiling at me/saying nice things), and either mercantile, acrobatics, or security
i also don't use fast travel and i take literally dozens of screenshots as i play. even unmodded the skybox, flora, world design, set design in a lot of dungeons/castles/etc, and the weather and its interplay with the environments please me greatly and look awesome to me still. i know objectively they aren't "awesome" but it has high fidelity and a rustic charm and quality that i think sits perfectly between the trio of "hyper realistic," "god awful shit from the 90s," and "fartnite pixar cartoon world"
>do mage's guild recommendations too as i'm travelling between fighter's guild quests and side quests
I somehow ended up at the Mage's guild (Cheydinhal) pretty early on my first playthrough and you literally just need to have one conversation and they're like, "cool, you now belong to the mage's guild. feel free to sleep in our beds and take anything that isn't nailed down". And then you just take all the alchemy equipment and immediately sell it back to them, and of course it respawns a few days later. Kind of annoying, and almost game breaking exploit to stumble upon in the first couple of hours of the game.
Oh shit, yeah. Alembics are valuable.
I always used to do this.
TES is rife with shit like that, i need not mention the almighty limeware platter
If you can't be bothered to do the quests in the main game, at least go to the shivering isles (the "strange door" near bravil). One of my favorite expansions to this day.
Zoomer moment
Oblivion is a zoomer game.
>oblivion
>zoomer
End your pathetic life.
The only people who are somehow nostalgic about Oblivion were 1995+ kids when it came out, so zoomers. It is a quintessential zoomer game. Pretty much all shit that's been a plague on modern RPG's - map markers, uninversal level scaling, levelled loot, instant fast travel - goes back to this game. No amount of your autistic screeching will change that, zoomie.
>zoomer trying to roll the situation around
Typical.
>The only people who are somehow nostalgic about Oblivion were 1995+ kids when it came out, so zoomers
I was born in 85 and didn't really play much video games after the N64 and occasional PC stuff. Gaming was still seen as a thing for kids back then, and in high school nobody was interested in playing video games anymore. Then I went to college and obviously nobody was even thinking about video games in college. After I graduated I picked up Oblivion and was immediately hooked. It was like I went directly from OoT and Goldeneye to Oblivion. So yeah, I'm just a couple years away from being gen x and I have nostalgia for Oblivion.
>I was born in 85
So am I and I actually played good RPG's back then like Gothic, Baldur's Gate, Fallout and Morrowind, so I immediately recognised Oblivion for the simplified zoomer trash it was.
>Gothic
Now that's an overrated game that didn't age well. People talk about Oblivion having shitty combat but ignore Gothic.
Don't know about rest, but Gothic 3 combat be like:
>UHHH
>AHHH
>UHHH
>AHHH
>...
>AHHH
>AHHH
>AHHH
>UOOOWWWAAWWWAAAgGHhh
But anyways were funny to keep enemies stunlocked. Especially high-level ones.
Make an archer and focus on the dark brotherhood. Report back.
>How did you guys do it?
by not being a shit-tasting zoombabby, mostly.
zoom zoom
>*shoves adderall inside of the dick hole*
ZOOOM ZOOOM!!!!
Is adderall considered a zoomer thing? I was in my early 20's when Oblivion came out and I was popping adderall and playing 12 hours a day.
Its zeitgeist, you cant really expect to have a great experience today with oblivion dude

why does everyone on this site hate black people?
Inferiority complex
Have you ever met one?
Yeah, but I haven't been close friends with one or anything.
vaporize n!ggers with a ray gun
I don’t hate black people, just Black folk.
why do you think? They have zero redeeming qualities.
I don't
See? This is what I mean when I say this board is nothing more than zoomers and election tourists these days.
yeah that homosexual probably posts on twitter and tiktok with Black person vernacular
grim.
Nope, I can't stand twitter. And I've never used tiktok.
Zoomieeeeee
lurk more
I've lurked plenty. I just wanted to know if there was an actual reason for it.
Ok, and?
You'd have to be an honest to god moron or unbelievably ignorant and deliberately blind to lurk this website for more than a week and not begin to formulate or at least grasp the many, MANY reasons to hate blacks that are provided.
I'm not gonna hate someone just bc you tell me to. That's stupid.
It’s not a someone. And I’m not telling you to do so. I’m saying there are explicit, objective, numerous reasons; and that furthermore, you shouldn’t “hate” blacks in the sense that you hate Mondays or when traffic is bad, but rather you should distrust them, guard yourself, your loved ones, and your property when around them, and should hold them and their values below yourself and your own values - and by extension, your race.
you'll get to know, eventually.
Keep it up
no kidding imagine the amount of good total conversion mods that can come from having voice acting generated by AI
Oblivion falls into the same category as GTA IV, Saints Row 3, Modern Warfare 2, Mass Effect 2, Fallout 3, etc. etc. of games that were widely recognized as flawed (if not outright shit) at the time, but which zillennials grew up with, so now they look back on them with nostalgia blinders and try to convince everyone they are "actually good".
Oblivion specifically is easily the worst of all three modern TES games, but has been rehabilitated by "comfy"gays.
>Oblivion specifically is easily the worst of all three modern TES games
This
Oblivion and GTAIV were comfy. Skyrim and GTAV were soulless zoomer crap that ruined their franchises and made everyone kind of lose interest in open-world.
>Skyrim and GTAV were soulless zoomer crap that ruined their franchises
Oblivion, being primarily developed for console dudebros, ruined TES, not Skyrim. At least Skyrim didn't look like absolute ass.
What a worthless piece of shit post. Even added a tranime pic for insurance. have a nice day.
>zillenials
So this is how zoomers defend themselves now.
you guys are trolling oblivion has better combat than Morrowind and better writing then skyrim
Let's see, how did I do it?
I was an oversheltered 10 year old, who traded in games for xbox live points to download it on our 3mb internet connection over the course of like 20 hours. I had to download it this way because it is an M rated game, and they were not allowed in a christian household.
I had just beaten the gamecube version of OOT over the last summer, and it was mind blowing. I was overwhelmed with the sense of freedom. The beauty of the night sky. The whole world to explore.
At that age, with the powerful and haunting soundtrack, made an impression on me, potato heads aside.
now in my mid 20s I can't play it for more than one minute. I see through the mirage entirely. I had a few chuckles mading AOE Frenzy Spells but that was it.
Some of the quests were clever. The Art Direction was great even though the graphics aged like millk.
I guess just be a child againGPEAR bro
i'm a zoomer so if anyone has the standing to complain about this fricking degeneration here it should be me
why did normalgays eat up skyrim? it's so bad
There are just no other games like TES.
i like DF and MW but skyrim is a boring piece of shit. didn't play enough of oblivion to have an opinion.
Mods.
that can't be it, they all played on the 360
I've been wanting to reinstall and start with a different character. Usually I'm a dark elf who uses destruction magic, light armor, and bladed weapons (1 handed). I was thinking of maybe doing a thief w/archery. Or at least a mage who focuses on more than just destruction and restoration.
Rapscallion:
>Blade with 1 handed
>Block
>Illusion for stealth buffs, calms, etc
>Stealth
>Archery
>Heavy Armor
>Mysticism for TK stealing, dispelling enemy magic, and more importantly detecting life for maximum stealth
Full on fighter capabilities and stealth capabilities combined. Can take your first shot in stealth, get the bonus damage, come out of stealth, and either keep fighting at range or charge in. Heavy armor + stealth can be pretty gay but you get the perk for total negation of boot weight very early and illusion has muffle, chameleon, and invisibility to also negate the armor penalty.
I bet this would work really well with poisons too. That way you only have to hit your target once to take them out.
I would have suggested Alchemy over Mysticism but personally I pick alchemy every single time just because I love it so much, so I figured I’d change it up. Poisons are ridiculously powerful, and fun, especially if you’re going further than plain damage and putting slows on them, weaknesses, silences, burdens, etc.
>go into oblivion gate
>going through some underground tunnel
>fall down a little hole with no way to get back out
>build a staircase out of paintbrushes to escape
Skyrim also has a working battle system unlike all the games before it, this is really important to the game's enjoyment.
> but at least the setting is more interesting.
What the frick is wrong with you?

Why do guards do this?
That's not a guard voice.
