Really didn't even need a new gen. But the console hardware is so shit they have to keep doing this.
Cool because it sucked.
No one cares about xbox anymore. It' a dead brand.
Why are you being so defensive about it if it's dead?
I'm confident in saying this is the worst console generation since the atari.
I don't even own a switch but I'm like 90% certain it "won" this gen. At least it had games.
the switch exists in a weird state of flux. i'm not sure what gen it is. even ps4/xbone era games were missing it and nearly all ps5/xsx ones are. i will 100% call it last gen and group it with the ps4 once the switch 2 is out though.
Lag gen
>when the nintendo console loses in sales it is paired on the same gen as the competition (see wii u vs ps4 memes)
>when nintendo blows the frick everyone "it doesn't count as it is LE DIFFERENT GEN XDD"
love how you soi bois always use that excuse when you get your ass kicked
>immediately brings up sales when nobody cares about them and anons are clearly talking about the performance and features associated with the 9th generation of consoles
>capes for shitendo, calls others soi boys
Look in a mirror.
homosexual.
>i'm not sure what gen it is
it's not rocket science, it's part of the current gen, 9th generation
after a console gets replaced by a successor a new generation starts, unless you are a redditor that defines generations by computational power
That's moronic. The Switch is Nintendo's 2nd 8th gen console. It's not unprecedented in gaming history for a single company to have two consoles in the same generation. The Switch 2 will be Nintendo's 9th gen console.
Calling Switch gen 8 is only useful in the context of coping.
Calling the Switch 9th gen is only useful in the context of coping. It literally came out in 2017, when gen 9 consoles came out 3 years later...it was also considered the weakest of the three, behind the Xbox One and PS4....it doesn't have the timing nor the hardware to be considered 9th gen. 9th gen are consoles that came out 2020-now. Switch 2 will be Nintendo's 9th gen console, and will come out with a 128-256gb nvme ssd.
Can anyone even tell me if there’s a difference between the piss4 or piss5? I’m serious, I was actually thinking of upgrading but it seems pointless
The Switch is kinda part of the PS4 gen more than the PS5 gen. Whatever Nintendo puts out next year is their PS5 gen machine.
The Switch was pretty much in PS4's position this gen. It won, and didn't really need to do anything. It just "won" by having games.
See
there's a list of like 100+ titles on ps4/5/xbox that aren't on switch
Very few people own just a Switch but a lot of people own a Switch and just one of the other platforms.
>the nogames4/5 has games I swear!!!!

Is that why people settle for 50 second loading screens and PS2 graphics to play the games the other systems supposedly don't have
Keep telling yourself that I'm lmaoing
You people need to realize having a handful off good exclusives doesn't make up for not having 100's of good Multiplats
If you could own ONE(1) system, only a moron 'on the go' homosexual would choose a Switch
yeah who the frick wouldn't choose a pc?
>If you could own ONE(1) system
thank god no one has to only own one device, you are 12?
I own a PS5 PC and Switch and i've put the most time in on my switch if you don't count emulation on PC. no one cares about triple A slop that doesn't run on switch
>I don't even own a switch but I'm like 90% certain it "won" this gen. At least it had games.
I don't think we have console generations anymore, the difference in power and games being released makes the whole thing muddled. Switch is more like a hi-tech phone while PS5 and XSX are low powered PCs.
It's a low tech phone currently. The higher end phones are actually running Switch emulators. 6 years has been a crazy amount of progress in mobile tech.
Yes we do. Just put them in chronological order.
Post more April please
Thanks!
I still don't even recognize this as the current gen, I call it "next gen". Frankly it feels out of spite when a game doesn't release for the ps4 / Xbox one, because the hardware is still perfectly fine if they dial back the graphics a little.
The one fricking thing PS5 is doing to ruin backwards ports is the goddamn SSD, so now I see a lot of devs putting all the uncompiled trash into the game loading at all times
>Well the ps5 can handle everything active so no need to code well
Had they simply gone back to previous optimal methods, those ps5 games would perfectly run on the ps4, merely loading assets when they're necessary.
But yeah I look at Resident Evil 4 Remake or Elden Ring on the ps4 and wonder
>Why did we need a new generation so early?
Right now it could still be the ps4 generation and, once it truly runs out, release a ps5 in 2026 or something with actual jaw-dropping improvements
>Frankly it feels out of spite when a game doesn't release for the ps4 / Xbox one, because the hardware is still perfectly fine
no, it's not, the CPUs in eighth gen consoles are complete dogshit
My point is, how does that reflect on game quality. I listed examples, I think re4r, Elden Ring, re2r, devil may cry 5, etc.. Are amazing in all aspects.
Like, I'm fine if the games look graphically like that, and it certainly doesn't affect gameplay. New gen then is just the previous one just looking a little better and smoother, like a pro version of the ps4 pro
because they will struggle with certain tasks, for example, RE Engine titles so far, such as your given examples of RE4R and DMCV have largely static environments with extremely limited amounts of physics props, whereas Dragon's Dogma 2 which is the first RE Engine title that is only releasing on current gen and PC has gone all in on heavy physics simulation with lots of interactive props etc.
No dynamic environments, shit lighting, bad physics.
Consumers demanding better performance was a doubled edged knife, 8th Gen consoles were supposed to be 720 60 FPS machines before people complained.
It's why 7th Gen games that ran like absolute ass still had mor consistent visuals and more dynamic environments.
Meanwhile 8th Gen consoles couldn't do that stable performance and decent visuals without making everything static and downgrading plenty of details visually.
It's why only RE4 Remake had destructable environments while in RE7 you couldn't even break bottles laying around.
>Frankly it feels out of spite when a game doesn't release for the ps4 / Xbox one, because the hardware is still perfectly fine if they dial back the graphics a little.
the problem is the different API
it's just more dev time that none of the publishers are willing to pay for
THe one and the s were detrimental to the industry
bro the atari had the one kung fu game
I wouldn’t even know, I skipped both the series x and the Snoystation 5
XBOX 720
If they go for RT in every game it will actually be rendering at 720p too
At this point 720 would be a better name than the moronic shit microsoft comes up with
>he doesn't want the xbox x one
I'm unironically expecting something like
Xbox Model X
I remember thinking that the people who thought the next Xbox would be the 720 were stupid because of the absolutely moronic logic that the naming scheme would simply be 360 + 360 = 720, but Microsoft proved me wrong every single time.
For the longest time I assumed the Series S was just a new slim model for the xbone and I was wondering when MS was going to announce their new console
The Xbox 720, clearly approved (and probably paid for) by Microsoft appears in the 2011 Hugh Jackman movie "Real Steel"
Which if nothing else means that name was absolutely in their heads and was a final contender before they went with Xbox One
The fact that they had Xbox 720 and someone convinced them to name it Xbox One somehow makes it even worse.
If they followed that naming scheme we could have been shitposting by calling the Series S the Xbox 1080p...
Yeah it would be a stupid naming system but its hard to argue that "Xbox 1080" would still be easier to say than "Xbox Series X" and at least it would be consistent.
People would rather call it xbox 430p
720 is a way better name than "One"
I always laugh thinking about the interviews where MS execs assumed people were going to refer to it as "The One" instead of xbone or "piece of shit nobody wants"
One might say they got Xboned.
Youve got to wonder if these marketing execs even know what people are even like. Calling anything "the One" as a nickname is just a bizarre choice.
>he doesn't own an X BOX X BOX

Sorry, xbox 360NE series x
XBOX I
I was always for the rotational naming schemes. It was unique and interesting.
>720
>1440
>2880
>5760
it would have that PC gpu quality to it, which was always part of Xbox's roots.
Xbox 6, they're beating Sony to the punch by counting the Series S as a gen within a gen.
There's a very high chance MS doesn't release another console. Game Pass will have failed before 2026
Game Pass makes over 2 billion Benjamins a year already.
They killed xbox gold and now you have to get a pass and xbox was uplifted during the cryptoscam craze. Nowadays you can find people selling their series S/X cheaply and they are still more expensive than a second hand RTX 3000 / 4000 series or a brand new GTX 4060.
Ded brand
PS cultists will trick you into thinking they won because they got 1 capeshit game.
This generation was grim.
>Never bought an Xbox Series X/S
>Still have an original Xbox One
>Game Pass and high speed internet capable lf seemlessly streaming "next gen" titles wihout any lag or latency
>Fully enjoyed this gen without ever buying a new console.
>Will do the same for the gen after
Didn't we just get started in 2020? Shit, you could say we started in 2021 since the scamdemic delayed a lot of shit.
2019, we’re 5 years in
It released November 2020, it's been three years
>2019 was 5 years ago
>Sega Saturn is not our future
This has to be the worst console generation outside the Atari 2600
>Dedicated AI
They're still just throwing the "AI" meme word at everything, aren't they? How long until they realize it no longer works?
But it works?
then where the frick is my AI gf
Not "AI doesn't work," I mean that trying to integrate AI into everything as a marketing tactic doesn't get people excited anymore because they can see that it's just a desperate attempt for companies to jump on trends.
And what good is "dedicated AI acceleration" going to do for an Xbox?
>And what good is "dedicated AI acceleration" going to do for an Xbox?
Things will go faster I guess, at least faster than now.
Perhaps? But if I look up what an "AI NPU" is, it's a chip designed to support AI workflows like neural networks that are used in machine learning. What I get from this is that the Xbox is going to have a bunch of useless gimmick features that no one is going to use.
not really it'll be in the cpu/on the board for people to use if they want. apple silicon has been shipping with the same type of thing for a few years now.
>for people to use if they want.
Yeah that's probably most likely. You might get some cool ideas from game developers like NPCs with dynamic dialogue, but I still see it as a lame marketing tactic.
The xbox store also has applications in addition to games, maybe it is focused in that direction.
Neural network shit is used on iphones for things like removing background noise from photos and things like that. It's something that devs can tap into if they want.
nvidia's ai noise cancellation for microphones is actually pretty good too. it'll be for stuff like that at first.
The only single thing that will go faster is the marketing departments
The Xilinx AIE in my laptop has 50% of the throughput of a 4090 while consuming 4w~
It works incredibly well
seems legit
AI generated frames for AI generated games.
this generation really had no content, we're nearly 4 years in and no console-exclusive game has been worth looking at, microsoft is too busy making sure people dont own their games, sony is too busy releasing accessories than game, and nintendo is too busy making people buy the same game for the umpteenth time
I think this generation is more of an exploratory generation and Microsoft is winning by a huge margin.
Sony’s VR2 has flopped again and their sales are propped by remakes and PC ports.
At the same time Microsoft managed to make Game Pass profitable, took xCloud out of beta and purchased some big IPs.
I’m fully expecting the next generation to be completely dominated by Xbox, and I’m saying this as a Snoy.
>Microsoft is winning by a huge margin
Lmao deluded Xhomosexual.
They absolutely are. Microsoft is doing pretty amazing on every front except for the actual games, lol. Sony still has no answer for any of the outlets that led to Microsoft’s ecosystem growth.
Microsoft has no growth, they are just an extension of ZOG/US government
Microsoft has two new extremely successful experiments, GP and xCloud that have a potential to grow their audience beyond what was before thought imaginable. In the meanwhile Sony released WiiU2.
Cloud gaming is still a near impossible sell right now, Kojima's game has to be god tier and sell people on the format existing when it just failed super hard on the Switch a couple years ago. Preferably it needs to showcase actual gameplay and not watching an interactive movie, but if the servers get stressed during the launch and the game doesn't perform perfectly, it'd be a huge set back to the entirety of cloud gaming.
How would Xbox accomplish this? They tarnished their name, killed all their brands and every activision “exclusive” is multiplatform
Dev cycles are simply too long now. AAA studios will now release 1, maybe 2, games a generation.
and they're still buggy, unfinished, with less features then a game from 20 years ago
Why can't they simply go back to good 2d games? Or pre-rendered backgrounds?
Whatever they were doing 20 years ago was perfect.
I'll happily take Final Fantasy games done in the style of 7, 8 and 10 with improved graphics but nothing too realistic. We do have an example of this, the Resident Evil 1 Remaster for ps4, it's classic gameplay with a locked camera and I assume it took a fraction of the resources of 7/village/the other remakes to make, but it's amazing. I'd take two yearly resident evil games like that one.
And again, go back to 2d games, DB Fighterz looks better than most videogames and it's 7 gb in size.
the average sub human that only plays cod and fifa doesnt care about any kind of integrity, they want the fancy graphics because in their head thats automatically better.
>microsoft is too busy making sure people dont own their games
Why is this narrative still being pushed so hard as if the other two aren't doing even worse in this regard? Sony just had the Discovery fiasco like a week ago and Nintendo won't let you play their old games unless you have a subscription. Gamepass existing does not remove your ability to purchase games outright and you have just as much "ownership" there as any other platform.
Hello Jez Corden
Look man, there's plenty of stuff to rightly criticize M$ over but the "le own nothing" meme isn't really one of them...at least yet
MS was the first one to implement a hardware ban against second hand games you dolt. It was so wildly unpopular it almost destroyed their gaming brand permanently and they had to instantly reverse it. Gamepass was already phase 2 of operation “you will own nothing” and probably got accelerated by the aforementioned events.
Gamepass is just a games rental service, Blockbuster is not an elaborate EGS plan to make sure you never owned games, they just provide a service to let you rent games and that's all.
MS are the only ones that offer a viable alternative towards the "you will own nothing" blackrock future.
Gamepass is the ANSWER to you will own nothing? Jesus frickin Christ, no more replies from me, bud. I was trying to have a genuine discussion.
Yes.
Gaming is split towards three ways of playing them right now.
Buy to play
Free to play
Rent to play
Buy to play is losing ground right now to Free to play the most. More and more games are being restricted and locked away, unable for anyone to own them and for everything on it to disappear forever when the service ends. It is safe to say that F2P games will be the future of video games as game ownership is already seeing massive declines as people are cheap and would rather not spend anything to get into a game. This leads to a massive increase in microtransactions too just to make money.
Xbox gamepass is only alternative to this two that offers an inbetween the two by making Buy to play games more accessible and allowing you to actually own the games if you choose to buy them. I'd rather gamepass be more successful than for video games to slowly step foot by foot more into the depths of eternal F2P games where ownership is literally impossible. We're already a decade deep into that sad future.
Okay I’ll reply just to say I’m definitely not reading any more of your posts.
Xbox is not an alternative because it's not like Blockbuster and you choose what to rent. Microsoft chooses for you. They pay to subsidize everyone's copy of the game and then your options consist of what they bought for you. It's legitimately communism, except the state is a corporation. It's a terrible system because it HEAVILY incentivizes games like Starfield as well that was super padded and waste players time on purpose because the current GP games get an upfront check when they're put on it and then they get extra money based on how much time players spend on the game as well.
GP is objectively bad for gaming in every regard. It actually incentivizes live services that can retain players longer, it rewards bad game design(no ground vehicles in Starfield, ample loading screens), and most of all you can only play games that Microsoft deems you can play on it. That last one is the biggest flaw and the worst aspect for gamers. You should not be allowing corporations to tell you what games you're allowed to play.
>MS are the only ones that offer a viable alternative towards the "you will own nothing" blackrock future.
By letting you own nothing and only allowing you to play what you buy for you? I'm not seeing it, GP is just communism and that never works.
Original anon you were replying to here, posts after this one weren't me. I don't need a history lesson of shit we all remember, the point is that M$ didn't get away with it then and the other two are doing it now. M$ got reamed for it and had to change course, this is not the case now with Snoy and Nintendo. They're getting away with it and people are still calling Xbawks the own-nothing machine. Just feels like a forced narrative that people are too lazy to actually look into
Seems like you do in fact need a history lesson if that’s all water under the bridge to you,
Alright dude, nevermind. 3 replies and you're still completely ignoring the original point and deflecting back to shit that didn't even come to pass. Great argument, I'm out.
>nintendo is too busy making people buy the same game for the umpteenth time
So Mario Wonder is TOTALLY the same as New Super, am I right according to you?
Super Mario Bros 3 has been the same game for 35 years yet Nintendo always finds new ways to sell, lease, rent and stream it to people
>microsoft is too busy making sure people dont own their games,
hasn't valve beat them to this by like a decade?
my dad passed away and left me with an xbox one x. it seems pretty powerful and im accustomed to using a 32gb i9 rtx 3080 computer. why the frick did they abandon it to work on a new console in another 2 years? it just wasnt the right time?
ps5 and xbox one x still barely have any games
everything is so shit dude, music, movies, what the hell am i supposed to do, go outside and be surrounded by brown immigrants, frick me
One X has a dogshit CPU like the Xbone. Digital Foundry plugged a SSD into one and while it has slightly better graphics vs the Series S, the framerate was worse and it can't handle CPU intensive games.
i meant SERIES X. apparently these are two different things and microsoft are morons for making this convoluted shit
Ah, well game design has peaked so the fricking Xbone is still getting support next year and that released a decade ago so the Series isn't dying anytime soon.
My friend bought an xbox and we played Forza on it, it's shit and we ended up playing Super Mario 3D world on Switch stoned and having a ton of fun. He keeps bashing his Switch though, he says it hurts his eyes. I think he just doesn't want too admit he spent so much money on a shit console (He bought a 2k television to play it on as well).
>playing Super Mario 3D world
child
play some real games
>last of us
>god of war
>killzone
modern racing games arent really that great for playing with friends in my experience unless maybe its in VR with a full sim rig. if anything id suggest carx drift if its on sale as a casual hoon simulator, its fun with a controller because it has an option to automate drifting to be a lot more manageable which you use if you're not using a real wheel and its pretty fun for a cheap arcade-drifting experience, easy to do tandem drifts side by side once you get the hang of it and get cars you're comfortable with. the progression is moronic, you just cheese it in singleplayer repetitively, multiplayer is just for fricking around with what you earned from singleplayer, but its cool, get it on sale
Alright, I'll look out for it next time I'm there.
I'm sorry dude
>how this gen will be defined https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1JEmnTjdyA

so just like the precedent one?
>3 years and 1 or 2 months
>nearly 4 years in
Math is hard
Bloated budget and pajeet dev team make the game dev cycle unbearably long. Remember when Ubisoft was able to shit out yearly ass creed games?
Sony will come in clutch in the later half. They always do.
Frick this shit, I would have gotten a SeX years back if they weren't so stringy with supply and demand bullshit. Now I might as well skip this gen entirely
>NPU
Black person processing unit?
neural processing unit, the idea is that if you want certain neural network programs to run really fast you can do it on a specialized chip.

10th generation will steal your cum to make slave babies to work in illegal gold mines.
>10th gen will offer
No games for sale. Everything will be subscription based.
You might not want to hear it but Steam is like that already.
The FTC documents showed that they want to push cloud hybrid games on their next console. Whatever Kojima is making is going to be that.
Games as a service aka less than nothing.
10th gen will somehow steal your games away
They'll all be subscription based
games will release unfinished and all of them will get updates monthly to finish them
the only winning move will be not to playu
Your computer is going to become unusable within the next five years because companies like Microsoft and Apple are going to force half-baked ChatGPT ripoffs into the OS, among other features that no one asked for like Cortana but way more resource intensive.
This will not happen if you just never upgrade, like how people are staying on Windows 7 until they are being forced to migrate. So you could stay on Windows 10 or 11 until Steam or whoever forces you to upgrade, and then you can just switch to linux if you really don't like the new supported Windows.
>Nintendo Switch literally has lasted almost 2 console generations
Frick Nintendo
I think we hit the ceiling for the game industry like hollywood did for cinema and it's all downhill where only inflation numbers can disguise lost profits. There are too many competing interests where eventually entire studios of people will ragequit even big projects like COD and FIFA. We have hardware companies trying to dump more console versions no one is buying, we have software companies trying to monetize broken software, we have non gaming software companies like microsoft that can't handle their own projects that all this stuff runs on, we have marketing and outsider investor groups that want to siphon money from the other parties, and thats not including outside groups that work on this "AI" that want to take money from the other groups, oh and they want to "stream" all this or make it as digital possible while we have literal ISP wars with software companies like with twitch and korea. This entire industry is doomed and will hit a harder landing then hollywood when MCU hit a wall and creativity went bankrupt.
Well, time to find a new hobby
?
MCU still brings in billions. Back 70 years ago entertainment was oversaturated with cowboys and indians on the TV and radio, this was way worse than capeshit, everythingvwas about a fricking cowboy back then and everything turned out fine years later.
>MCU still brings in billions
somebody else tell him
>MCU still brings in billions
That's a good one. Disney sped run Marvel into the ground.
Since the digital Series X console was leaked, I guess they decided to cancel that model and jump straight to the next generation.
>dedicated AI slop chip
lmfao
November 2020 to November 2026 is 6 years. The average console generation is about 5-7 years, if we ignore outliers like PS2 selling in Brazil for more than a decade or something.
>if we ignore outliers like PS2 selling in Brazil for more than a decade or something.
how is that the outlier when thats normal for most PS hardware. PS4 is literally a decade old and still being sold in actual relevant markets
I got a ps4 years ago; played Horizon Zero Dawn and RDR2 before I sold it. I still have my 360 and ps3 and I'm not not giving them up. There's just no reason to own consoles anymore because they don't get good exclusives. I don't have any Nintendo because I don't like how anti-consumer it is. Playing indie games and occasionally a triple A title from a decade ago on PC is really all that appeals to me anymore.
>I don't have any Nintendo because I don't like how anti-consumer it is.
Explain
Will it play the games itself?
>We want the Playstation audience.
Rent-free.
THE POWER OF THE CLOUD 2.0
What's the point? It will only get worse from here; 360/PS3/Wii was the peak.
Wrong, 360/PS3/Wii was the downfall
AI peepee poopoo processor to optimize a multitude of absolutely anything except being able to play decent games
It was a big mistake releasing the PS5 and Nextbox in 2020. Why did they do it? Neither of them were ready. They should have held off till 2022 and made them more powerful or cheaper or something.
iirc microsoft wanted to be first to market to try to recapture the success of the 360. then sony panicked and released the ps5 early because the thought of another ps3 gen terrifies them.
It may seem stupid, but this is the only path forward for Microsoft at this point. PS5 Pro is coming next year, so Microsoft can skip a pro iteration, and beat Sony to next gen by a year. Then they can also drop Series S support. This gen has also been fricking awful because the only real visual improvements we've seen are from gay-tracing, which current gen consoles can't handle.
If FF7 Rebirth wasnt releasing next year I wouldnt even bother getting a PS5. I think I'll probably just sell it after I beat the game.
>Elden Ring was dual-gen
>Gaiden and Infinite Wealth dual-gen
>P3R dual-gen
>several other titles released in 2024 will be dual-gen
The Series X/PS5 experience is like watching your girlfriend get fricked by your dad
I know it's impractical but I've always thought the prototype Xbox design was cool as frick
Loved seeing it in NGB. I know console war shit is dumb but I kinda miss how certain series really celebrated the system they were on during this gen.
Console war shit is dumb, but console manufacturers used to give you a reason to buy their bricks.
Only one even trying, badly, mind you is Nintendo.
Sony and Microsoft bricks are just bricks for morons to play Fortnite, FIFA and COD now, it's fricking sad.
Nintendo stopped trying when Iwata died
Their customer base consists of manchildren and parents buying a toy for their children aged 5 and up
Yeah I can still grab my 3DS and have fun, I love the duals screen. Well, that was a DS thing, but anyway.
Nintendo found a way to make their games feel unique, when I'm playing a 3ds/ds game it really feels made for the console, I get a sense of "owning this is worth it, how fun to do stuff in the top or bottom screens".
I wish they'll eventually do a XDS or something, same idea of duals screens but stronger graphics, it actually made the devs try and deliver games that wouldn't exist on other consoles.
Playstation 6 should have a gimmick to justify its existence, minimal graphic improvements aren't cutting it anymore
"better graphics" is the only thing the playstation has ever had going for it and their idiot fanbase eats it up because normalgays only and exclusively care about graphics and literally nothing else
Same with DOA and beach volleyball. added a layer of soul to all the early xbox team ninja games
Will this make the older models cheaper? I want a tv box
XSX is like 350 bucks right now.
It’s not a new gen, its a pro console because they realised they can’t let Sony go uncontested or it’ll be a massacre
I can't get over how shit this gen is lol. It's actually baffling. Go look what games had released 3 years into the life of the snes or the ps1 or the n64 or the ps2 or the xbox 360 and compare it to this gen. Its just a big meh.
No way, it feels like they came out like a year ago...
Time has been on speedup ever since covid
Next gen is 2028. Updated consoles like PS5 pro aren’t next gen
Not advocating for gamepass or anything but do you guys really care about owning stuff like games and movies? Like I get wanting to own your car and your house and so on but media?
If I have to pay for it then yes.
Depends on the game. If it's some cheap 5 hour game I'm only ever going to play once then of course I'm fine with paying a dollar to rent it. If it's some 100 hour long RPG with a modding community then of course I wouldn't want to "rent" it forever. I'd buy it so I could play it whenever/however I wanted.
>other media
I don't watch TV or movies anymore.
There is literally nothing wrong with having content you paid for being removed from your library because of the expiry of certain licensing agreements. Gamers are entitled children about it.
I still pop in old dvds and even vhs from way back. Can't do that with streamed bs
I care about the ability to sell the games I no longer wish to play in the future, and spend the money I get on other media.
Depends, Gamepass is good for shit I'll only play once. Nintendo games always get bought physically since Nintendo is shit about preservation and they don't do price drops so they're good to share.
It's pretty obvious that next gen consoles will rely heavily on DLSS/FSR and aim for stable 60 FPS, including Nintendo.
I hope all the "fake graphics" homosexuals that spam this board with their bullshit will shut up now.
>uses AI to detect presence of Mountain Dew and Doritos
>Eat a Dorito to start the game!
MCDONALDS!
>edits all your family photos to have bags of Doritos in the background.
>”we’ve always been family, Dave”.
>AI acceleration
>AI this
>AI that
This shit is going to crash harder than Crypto.
AI can’t crash…it’s going to be easier to do on local hardware which will crash the gpu market and tank nvidia but that’s about it.
>AI can’t crash…it’s going to be easier to do on local hardware
I heard the same thing about NFTs a few years back.
>>omg ai for a video game!?!? As in rendering the game into AI slop instead of crafting a real video game.
How's your magic beans coming along?
>omg ai for a video game!?!? wut's next?
Are you moronic? Fricking frogposter.
So Elder Scrolls with actual Radian AI will be possible now?
?si=aHt5Wq70bWdNZJ6A&t=124
If Xbox actually makes it's console look like that they will at least earn some cool points from me. It could be a moronic broken pile of shit, and it probably would be because micro$ is fricking incompetent, but I would still want one, just like I want the fricking KFC console, because that shit is so fricking stupid it feels like it would be collector's item worthy.
People had a problem with the sheer size of the OG Xbox and these concepts easily dwarf those.
People are moronic and gay and don't even play fricking video games, frick those guys.
>allow exclusives to dry up
>flagship series becomes generic shooter clone
>buy most overrated development studios
>confusing names for consoles
>no investment into next gen tech
Xbox is going the way of Sega. Next console is the Dreambox X-cast
>ai acceleration
Does this mean the ai in video games won't be brain dead? Civ games, RTS, and grand strategy games with a "smart" ai sounds cool.
>PS3 generation to PS6
>two (2) games total
>posts about PlayStation in an Xbox thread
Obsessed!
Frick Microsoft. They were the ones who first introduced subscription based online play. They deserve to crash
Man it went by that quickly? Just goes to show how useless consoles are nowadays.
What's the point? There is no talent in the industry anymore, no one can actually utilize the current hardware except for Rockstar's once a decade game. Pushing more TFLOPS and AI memes at it won't make games look better when everything is outsourced to India to save a buck
>GTA VI christmass release gets delayed despite crunch into the next year
We will unironically end up with:
>2026 GTA VI (PS5/XSX)
>2027 GTA VI (PS6/X720)
>2028 GTA VI (PC)
Rockstar will sell the same game three years in a row again just like they did 15 years prior. screenshot the letter O in my post
Its a weird gen overall where the last gen consoles are still on full development support despite being over 10 years old
The pandemic labor freeze played a part in this, but its not like 99% of most games released can't run on last-gen hardware either.
It's funny because something very similar happened in the 7th gen. The PS360 stayed around for as long as they did because of the 2008 market crash....they knew that no one was hurting financially and that consumers weren['t in a position to be spending money on a game console, so we kept the PS360 for years longer than what wee should've.
The ps4 gen had one good game that you can't find on pc: bloodborne. What the frick did this gen even have?
FF16 and God of my wife's son.
You have to be an abolute fricking moron with zero functioning braincells if you own an Xbox instead of getting a PC. What the frick is there for you getting an Xbox? You get all Xbox games on PC, can emulate any other consoles games on PC, and you don't pay for fricking online on PC. What is there to even consider between a shitbox and PC?
I own both and my Xbox serves the following
>Plays games with shit PC ports
>Plays OG/360 games that can't/are huge pains to emulate.
>Plays Gamepass games easily on basement set up (PC is in bedroom)
>Plays OG/360 games that can't/are huge pains to emulate.
That's literally the only reason to get one, rest is cope.
OG/360 games that can't/are huge pains to emulate.
Good thing there's only like 3
Way more, plenty of Japanese exclusives and multiplats as well who never saw their way to PC.
And you can play them with a stable framerate and at HD resolutions.
Probably the only decent thing Microshaft has done in like 10 years.
Nobody gives a frick about pedo schmups
All those SHMUPS are on PC
>Otogi
>Chromehounds
>Ninja Gaiden Black
>Armored Core 4 and 5
>Gundam
>Blue Dragon
>DBZ games
>Ghost Recon
I could go on, point is, it's a pro of buying that piece of shit console.
Is it worth buying a whole console for that alone? I don't think so, but it's there regardless.
id highly recommend it for a comfy console for older games, dont expect them all to be HD but many are. maybe its the multiplayer games just sticking to the old fidelity mostly because they need it to be congruent with other players so there isnt an advantage or something, thats what it seems like to me so far
>Way more, plenty of Japanese exclusives and multiplats as well who never saw their way to PC.
None of those play on the Series X due to licensing. It's what stopped me from buying a Series X, it couldn't play Japanese only releases.
I only have a series s as my local car mechanic said his gf bought him one as a gift and he didn't want it and he just sold it to me for 100 bucks. He wasn't lying either as I checked the warranty when he sold it to me and the console was only 3 months old.
>you don't pay for fricking online on PC.
When you move out of your mom's basement I think you'll find that most ISPs aren't providing their services for free
Frick off, moron
I meant for being able to play multiplayer games without Xbox live, PS Plus, and Nintendo online you dumb motherfricker.
What consols first pops up in anons mind when he reads "next gen"?
For me it's stuck at PS4
It always makes me think of old gaming magazines from the 90s because it was just a general buzz/hype/marketing word for whatever was on the horizon that they used constantly.
I'm still in the 360/ps3/wii era personally and I say that owning a switch since I primarily PC and I just head Canon the switch as a handheld a la the 3ds.
Lost every gen for 20 years. Xbox is a dead brand.
>MS realizing they fricked up with releasing both S and X and realized a third one would be even more confusing
Honestly it seems like Microsoft is trying to get away from the "gen" thing altogether with all the cloud shit that they obviously want to make hardware obsolete but every outcome is funny nonetheless.
Cloud is worthless outside of cities, I got fast internet in my town but the ping is killer.
I think I've heard more ads for Starfield™ on Samsung™ TVs than I have heard for anything Series X/S related since that shit launched. MS really wants to get this cloud shit going, so much that they' d let Phil just throw away $75 billion
It makes sense in that letting anyone with a TV or Phone subscribe to your service must sound amazing to the higher ups but I'm not sure if the technology is there yet.
you'd be delusional if you think they'd let go of their console market despite their abysmal(?) sales, as it is they're the third largest in a market that is hard to get into
>see facebook, amazon, google etc etc
all have tried to get into the console market and have utterly failed, microsoft won't abandon the xbox console brand anytime soon
PC won
Nintendo won
It's over for Sony and Microsoft
Consoles are obsolete and we just need to have the PC model universally.
this is going to lead to an AI uprising right? these guys are basically fully sentient
>Xbox
>Xbox 360
>Xbox One, X|S
>Xbox Series X|S
wait theres a difference between an xbox one x and xbox series x?
yes, welcome to how moronic Microsoft execs are. The One X was 8th gen, like the PS4 Pro. The Series X is 9th gen, equivalent to PS5.
Yes, Microsoft is this moronic.
microsofts biggest problem is their naming schemes
who wants to downgrade their xbox 360 to an xbox one or whatever they're called
just release xbox 361 and people will flock to buy it
>Series X is $350 right now
Should I wait and see if they get lower before the next gen? I just wanna play Otogi and Ninja Gaiden II at high resolution.
idk about the specs for those two games but a lot of older games look and run amazingly on the series x and i love it for its backwards compatibility. some will still have low framerate or low framerate and low resolution but some look like 4k 60fps, like oblivion, though thats obviously playable on PC but not with native controller support
i looked it up and the first thing i saw was an article saying "got an xbox one x instead of series x? you only have yourself to blame"
KEK
journalists in charge of licking corporation butthole
I’m happy with it as my main device. If you’ve already got a good pc and/or ps5, then it’s probably not worth it. I’d get a one if you just want to play some older exclusives.
I have a PC, it'd 99% be a nostalgia box. I dunno if Jedi Survivor performs better on console than PC but that's the only modern game I can think of that I'd be concerned about offhand since I remember reading it was a pain to run on PC.
Couldn’t tell you, but I like it for the convenience, playing in the living room, everything runs well with no hassle. Going through bioshock 1-3 remastered now. Haven’t seen a modern exclusive that’s worth more than 15 hours
>still has half the memory of a costco PC
i expect that the AI fad will have crashed by 2026, or at least, faking the AI label for marketing purposes will have become cringe after people already purchased an AI toaster, AI coffee maker, AI vibrator, etc.
jesus christ, and how many exclusives did the xbox and ps5 have combined, like 12?
This is a good thing. Exclusives don't benefit anyone but the console manufacturers. Now they have to win out with hardware and having a more pleasant ecosystem, which I think is why Xbox is pulling ahead with Game Pass.
Yeah I know it. NGB and NGII I know got really good treatment, i.e. the staircase fight in NGII is apparently 60 FPS the whole time now. I also miss the first RDR/Undead Nightmare and would love to play the again.
Yeah, see above. It's good that exclusives are going away, and that MS is including PC as part of the Xbox ecosystem, but the consoles will always play a part by being plug and play dedicated gaming systems. They just compete more in other ways than via exclusives now.
>but the consoles will always play a part by being plug and play dedicated gaming systems
Doubt it, they're barely plug and play nowadays, they're becoming more and more like computers, a big reason why home consoles peaked at an all time during 7th Gen was because Mobile gaming wasn't as big.
Casuals are all flooding to mobile and have no need for a brick to play games anymore.
Consoles are mostly 30/40 year old shit, zoomers either play on PC or mobile.
>They just compete more in other ways than via exclusives now.
That's for the worse, AAA multiplats fricking suck and made me go PC only back in 7th Gen.
My cousin and a couple of friends all of which are Xbox fanatics play some older games sometimes with it, but I don't see the point.
I'd rather just play what's available on PC that interests me, I'll never end up finishing it all.
>None of those play on the Series X due to licensing
Not true at all
Well shit, that's sad
Still plenty of games though, too bad most are multiplat and you have to buy them.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_backward-compatible_games_for_Xbox_One_and_Series_X/S
I actually hate gimmicks, I just want actual unique hardware, like handle triggers for more buttons to handle more ingame interactions and actual decent software, which gets rarer and rarer by the bigwigs these days.
I did jailbreak my DSi recently and I'm having fun with it.
Mostly playing GBA games through it though
>My cousin and a couple of friends all of which are Xbox fanatics play some older games sometimes with it, but I don't see the point.
fusion frenzy in 1080p 60fps
i fricking wish mech assault was on here though
>too bad most are multiplat
Yeah, that was my issue. The true exclusives I was looking at weren't supported. I could play the others elsewhere so it didn't matter, so emulators are the only option for some of those games unless you jtag a 360 or import a Japanese one.
We have like 2 or 3 more "gens" left before these companies have the confidence to completely ditch shitty gimped gameboxes and assume everyone that plays videogames will just buy a decent computer for them for their digital stores, shit they might even keep making consoles and just have them be crappy PCs that can only connect straight to those digital stores anyway
Microsoft will no longer exist by 2026.
What exactly is “dedicated AI acceleration” and why does a VIDEO GAMES console need it? I want to play fricking games on this thing not sit around talking to ChatGPT.
Maybe it'll help real-time sentient shit in videogames? I'd believe that's more on the vidya software than in the console hardware, but who knows.
Maybe the console needs to support it, and even hear your voice and react accordingly
They're going to use it to monitor your communications and to make sure you are raping your sister daily.
AI upscaling each frame to a higher resolution so theres a framerate boost/devs can optimize less, maybe ray trace lighting so that devs dont have to prebake lighting
basically all the advancement in tech nowadays is just making it easier for corporations to pump out AAA slop, offloading the cost onto the consumer by making them buy a new console. but this isnt the fault of the console devs really, its just a result of the entire market and lazy developers
>Maybe it'll help real-time sentient shit in videogames?
lol no not at all, NPCs in games are dumber than potatoes and arent changing any time soon because that would take a lot of actual effort and the average gamer is so stupid they probably cant make the NPCs much smarter without making the games too hard for them anyway lol
>and lazy developers
*game developers
>AI upscaling each frame to a higher resolution so theres a framerate boost/devs can optimize less
Cool so we get the DLSS meme forced into the console making every game look like it had Vaseline smeared all over the screen. Looks worse than if they never “upscaled” it in the first place
I fricking hate how the industry is forcing this shit so hard right now.
you say that like TAA isnt already in every modern AAA slop. DLSS is much better. i think on PC in some games it only really looks bad because it wasnt designed for monitors higher than 1080p and in that case its basically pointless to use. nvidia has an AI downscale upscale thing you can use in place of it in those cases which is nice though
anon, the majority of big name releases are already using FSR on console nowadays
>dedicated AI acceleration
how can you accelerate something that doesn't exist?
the next generation is 2028 as detailed in the document leaks from the MS/Acti court cases several months ago
2020 - 2028 would make it the longest lasting generation so far
It's because of these leaks that plans changed.
That makes literally zero sense
>no mention of POWAH OF DA CLOUDZ
I will never forget about it Microsoft. You may delete all traces of what you said, your lies, about TEH POWAH OF DA CLOUDZ but I'll never forget it and I will make sure nobody forgets the lies you used to sell a console for an entire generation. Microsoft will never stop lying because they are demons. Frick Microsoft, can't wait for these demons to get the frick off from console manufacturing.
Xbox abandoned cloud according to their latest leaks. It's a massive waste of time and money and they're downplaying it as much as possible.
Why the frick do I always have to wait to play when I try it then? Seems like there is some kind of audience for it.
They stopped investing in servers so that's why it's congested and why you have to wait just to play it. If you use Geforce now, it's night and day how good nvidia is compared to Xbox cloud.
so they first they said it they were building this massive array of servers to help the XBox with processing power but then they have been silent about it for more than a decade at this point and just pretend it never happened then they silently rebrand it to being an Xbox service for better online/offline AI/bots then they silently rebrand it AGAIN to xCloud and then they abandon that too? Tbh it does say Cloud Hybrid Games... Whatever the frick that means. I guess it means Snake Oil to help us sell some consoles for a 3rd generation straight.
Speaking of investing. Xcloud is still stuck on 1080p, while PS just updated to 1440p and 4k this year.
>phil spencer head of xbox is good news
I can't name a single exclusive for any system from this generation that people will remember as a classic.
The Last of Us 2 Remastered
yikes
both sets of first party offerings have been total slop this gen, but there's been a bunch of fantastic third party releases
Returnal
>I can't name a single exclusive for any system from this generation that people will remember as a classic.
Zelda
>only two more years
>not a single worthwhile exclusive
PC master race will literally never stop winning.
the new consoles release late 2028
, so more like shy of 5 years, not 2 years
its hardly winning, some of the best PC games sellout just to port themselves on console and then focus on sucking money from console morons with dlc, and a lot of the best PC games are only good by giving you so much freedom and requiring so much creativity and effort that you're only having fun by trying so hard, almost nothing is just casual fun like the classics we will always remember
>freedom
>creativity
>not casual
ok pal
Most games are console first, and then ported to pc. What world do you live in?
im talking about the good games, not "most (AAA) games"
My point still stands.
Which ones?
>My point still stands.
as a nonsequitur
-Ashes 2063
-STALKER Anomaly
-Black Mesa: Source
-Chronicles of Myrtana
-The Dark Mod
-Thief The Black Parade
-Entropy Zero 2
-Garrys Mod
-Darkest Hour
-Black Orchestra
-Blitzkrieg mod
-Forgotten Hope 2
-Project Reality
-MechWarrior Living Legends
-Empire at War Remake
-Sins of the Prophets
Some of the best PC titles are total conversion mods you'll never see on consoles.
people stopped caring about exclusives in the 360/PS3 era people just want something that plays all the new games with streaming apps. Nintendo is a weird exception in that their handhelds are cheap enough that you will buy it just to get a mario experience or pokemon for that gen. merging their console division into their handheld was the godsend and saved the company.
No one uses streaming apps on their consoles anymore, it's all through their standard smart TV's now.
thats dumb those things are always laggy with the shitty tv remote controls
frick consumers are dumb
I had no problems.
I've used it once or twice, I just use my TV.
people use both, you are lying to yourself if you think people don't see the xbox and ps5 as multi media devices.
Nobody is going to buy consoles after this gen, it's gonna make headlines when the 10th gen consoles release and retailers can't get rid of them.
They're still going to sell, but they're selling less and less.
The peak was 7th Gen, they're never going to make that much money ever again, that space isn't growing at all which is why they desperate for GAAS multiplayer only garbage filled with microtransactions to pad that out.
Unless something really big happens, home consoles won't be a thing in 2050.
Electrical cars won't be a thing in 2050.
They're a thing now. Self-driving ones are nearly done too. Tick tock, old man.
I've had my Series X for two years, there's no way I'm getting another console.
Why does Microsoft even try anymore, no I mean that seriously why? No one likes them for anything but their controllers. No one likes Microsoft, their bullshit, their data collection, their monetary brute forcing, their marketing, their damage control through marketing agencies and shills. NO ONE LIKES you microsoft, your time was during the 360 and original Xbox and you blew that by becoming anti consumer, why are they still trying? I don't fricking get it. They've literally lost BILLIONS through the Xbox brand.
Because of Phil Spencer, he's destroying the company and no one wants to fire him for some reason. He's an insane liability to the company.
When was Microsoft pro consumer?
Microsoft as a brand? Never. The xbox division though? They had their definite moments, especially before the 360.
Xbox was never consumer friendly, they were selling mappacks for 15 a pop during the OG Xbox days.
Shit you would get for free on PC, all Microsoft did was ruin the hobby with nickel and diming the frick out of it and convincing morons like you that it was totally ok to be ripped off.
They literally forced Valve to sell their L4D map updates while they were free on Steam and PSN.
L4D wasn’t on PS3, moron.
huh, I was sure L4D2 was on PS3
No wonder it got as much marketing as it did.
Pretty sure shit like that goes against Japanese law.
They have pretty strict dometic market protection lawa which is why you hardly see any of them bought out by Americans or Chinks with few exceptions.
It would be pretty shit if it happened, yeah.
They're the Disney of vidya.
Imagine if Microsoft had succeeded in buying Nintendo, like they originally tried.
Frick no, I would have even fired Phil for thinking he'd buy them.
>released 3 years ago
>still no games
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:PlayStation_5-only_games
Honestly, if this does happen, I'm done with this video game shit. I'm not buying a console every 3-6 years with no games. Microsoft, playstation, nintendo, frick that.
Ps5pro when? I'm sick of having to choose performance vs fidelity mode, I want both!
November 2024
I can wait that long, cool.
announced in Sept 2024 and releasing in Nov 2024
This just blows my mind, xbox and playstation really don't have a lot of good games out. It really took 3 years to get some GOTY's that were fricking worth it?
They focused on multiplat AAA titles because that's what gave them money and completely neglected their own titles while barely giving any diversity to their catalogs, rather leaving that for indie devs.
Now AAA multiplats are struggling, their exclusive lineup is weak and indies would rather release on PC, Switch or mobile.
Been happening since mid 7th Gen, and warned them for years.
You'll see more layoffs every year
>New system in 2 years (apparently)
>New gta gets released in two years
Frickers, I will play any thing that gets on the x too, there' no reason for it to be unsed
I don't know what's the point when the only advancements are just photorealistic graphics that aren't even pretty because japonesian studios will use trite anime artstyle and western studios will shove ugly colored people to "challenge beauty standards".
Yeah, Anime's cool but everything looking like that gets boring.
The point for you to buy trash you don't need.
What was the point of 9th Gen?
Or the PS4Pro?
They just want easy money from morons.
Phil Spencer went on the record to admit that Xbox lost the console war, and besides, Playstation is way more popular. I recently started working at a retail store and we're selling PS5's like crazy, but almost nobody is buying Xbox consoles. Only hardcore Xbox fanboys who are still dedicated to the brand are buying them.
The only real competition Sony/Playstation has is Nintendo, and even Nintendo is way ahead of Sony.
PC won
Nintendo won
It's fricking over for home consoles
It still won't look like that, and I still won't buy it.
Yes, I have been on this hill since 2000. No I will not move. I do plan on literally dying here.
>You will never play with that PS3 banana controller
We were robbed, videogame consoles are nothing but soulless safe sterile iterative garbage with Apple aesthetics now.
yea, I'm not buying that shit
my sex box shall last me more years to come
Real-time AI game assets generation when
5080ti in 2025
Discounted 5080ti in 2026
am I just out of touch or did something change? each generation usually has a set of era defining games, massive releases that capture the worlds attention. i mean the 360/ wii/ ps3 era had halo 3, mario galaxy and uncharted. now this shit goes by without me even knowing it happened. i cannot really distinguish each era from the last
It's funny that we're already speculating about mid-gen upgrades and when the next gen is going to launch when devs are only just now starting to drop support for the previous gen. Even then, those games aren't coming until like late 2024 or sometime in 2025.
this gen on launch legitimately had no games and nobody wanted to/could buy a PS5, they've been supporting the last gen up until more recently explicitly because there's been no guarantee of games actually selling when being next-gen exclusive and they were right because compared to their inflated budgets a lot of them literally aren't
>
It doesn't state it's illegal.
Not valid. Law overrides their statements.
>Sony went from "how to share used games on PS4" to this
Back to Twitter, Xbox cuck.
But Ganker told me Xbox is going third party!
GETSUGAAAAAAAAAA
>next gen hasn't even started yet
>here's a new next gen console
wtf? this gen should last till 2030 with current pace of new AAA releases.
Feels like the only reason to buy a next-gen console is to play older games at 60 fps
The PS2 era is dead and not coming back. We're not going to get several hundred exclusives for any one platform anymore because that requires a shitton of first party releases on top of third parties committed to one specific platform, and because console/{C architecture is much much closer to each other now than in the past it's a much safer bet to release on as many platforms as possible to reach a wider audience. Even Sony realizes they can get more money by just making their console games timed and releasing on PC later. I think the nature of dedicated game hardware is going to change drastically in the near future due to this. If Elon's starlink shit ever gets super widespread you'll probably see vidya become more like current streaming services where you can get a playstation or xbox app and just pay a subscription to play whatever selection of games they have. Nintendo would probably just go the Apple route in this case and continue making their own shit anyway.
I legit don't know why the Xbox even exists curently, feels like a relic of the past that people still buy into because it used to exist a legit rivalry.
Today the absolute only thing Xbox offers is a better gamepass to play the same games also released on a ps4. Your two machines will be playing the same thing.
But yeah Halo and Gears of War are long dead, it sits wrong with me that Microsoft keeps scamming people into buying new Xbox consoles for 3 generations offering nothing.
This too, from the 2 years of time no one was able to find a console because of scalpers, I don't see many people buying a new console. We have 2-3 years to make up for and I don't think anyone's willing.
I'm not wealthy enough to keep up anymore. I don't know anyone that is.
dedicated AI chips will save GPUs
Great, so when my GTX 1080 finally shits itself, my new PC is going to need to have an AI chip, as well? Is it going to take up another PCI slot or is it going to be prebaked onto the mobo?
'member PhysX cards?
So a meme that never goes anywhere. Gotcha.
exactly
>dedicated AI acceleration
Ah yes. A new era of technobabble has arrived.
I doubt it. This gen hasn't even started yet.
