I liked this location. I disagree with the common consensus about DAS takes a nosedive after the lord vessel. Most areas are still good. Its just Izalith that sucks.
I agree and would go further and say Lost Izalith is great. Visually and aesthetically it's one of my fav areas in the game, it's just clearly unfinished. I think people perceive the 2nd half as a drop off in quality because of how good Anor Londo and O&S is
What made Izalith suck was these things:
1. Big huge dragon asses.
2. Very wide open field with a whole ton of lava which forces you to wear a certain ring.
3. There is a lot of it to go through.
4. A couple of the more shittier boss fights in the game including Bed of Chaos which is easily the worst fight in the game.
5. It was clearly unfinished.
6. Playing online in any way in this area is just really crappy whether it be co-op or invasions.
7. Might be misremembering but could have swore there was performance issues in certain locations in Izalith which is pretty fitting since the area sucked ass.
A lava themed area on paper is cool for this game. The execution of it just sucked is my hot take.
The only problem with the level, is how short it is. It should have been longer.
This.

Agreed, most of the areas are perfectly fine. The biggest reason I think the second half of the game is weaker is because you can no longer "get lost" in the world. I wish the subsequent souls games would have stripped away fast travel for at least some stretches of the game.
None of them had the same interconnected world that the first game had. Somehow they nearly perfected this idea with the first game only to never really attempt it as well ever again. In some cases doing it very poorly like with dark souls 2 and I don't even have to mention where for most here to know.
True, but even if they're insistant on never capturing that again, though to be fair elden ring had a touch of it with the underground areas, there could be something to be gained from stripping the fast travel even in a linear scenario. Take away your access to a blacksmith, trap you with a warp or drop, and force you to push your way out before you get the fast travel back. The first time I hit a trap chest in elden ring I thought they were finally going to do this, only to find out the caelid cave lasts 2 minutes and you're out. I'm thinking something like that, but make it last a few hours.
Borderlands 3 writer made this tweet a couple weeks before Elden Ring came out. It’s funny that it came from him, someone responsible for the trend of cringe-inducing, “sarcastic irony” still seen in dialogue today. But, he’s not really wrong.
In Dark Souls 2 there is a secret boss called Myrmidon of Loss who says "Zanzibart... Forgive me..." when you defeat him. He then enters second phase as "Myrmidon the Forgiven", implying that Zanzibart has forgiven him. To this date there is debate within the community who this "Zanzibart" character is
Frick Painted World, I was stuck in it for an hour searching for where to go before giving up and doing the jumping attack on the bridge glitch so I could leave. It's filled with obnoxious enemies as well
You can run through the entire game. You just never tried it until the "gimmick" made you desperate enough to actually just run in a panic.
The problem with the design wasn't that you could run through it. It was that they didn't do enough to entice the player to stay and explore. They should have mad a larger level, with visible landmarks in the distance that appeared interesting. And of course more visible loot in the distance too. That way, they player is going to want to see what's happening down there, and actually scour the darkness looking for hidden routes.
Honestly the only part I really dislike about this zone is the Black Knight, yeah he doesn't respawn but he can randomly aggro on you and chase you across the map, considering how dark the entire place is most people dont even know that there is a Black Knight and then this mother fricker just pops out from the shadow because turns out he had been chasing you for a while and you didn't even know.
I liked TotG, l thought crystal caves and new londo were worse
Demon ruins and izalith were so bad that it looped back around to being funny so I didn't mind them
I like how it forces you to give up using a shield which I (and I imagine a lot of other players) came to rely on a little to much up until that point.
It doesn't get enough hate because everyone memorized the way to go and make a bee-like for Nito.
People ITT who dare say that they like Tomb of the Giants 100% do this as well.
Oh, definitely. But the first time I got there it was atmospheric as frick and scared the shit out of me. 10/10 hate doing it again but it was fun the first time.
the first time I went through it I was scared as shit but in a good way, to this day I wonder what's that item being guarded by like 6 giant skeletons inside that one giant coffin
But it rules
it shouldn't
i would love it if games tried more bs areas like that especially with no way back

No.

Izalith, as shit as it was, is still more fun than TotG
just use the sunlight maggot moron
No... don't touch it zanzibart. It'll trap you in the worst, most derivative level in the series!
>No... don't touch it zanzibart.
Can someone qrd the zanzibart meme? I have yet to see any vidya related content other than mems that reference it.
Knight guy is sekiro said gregory... forgive me. Or some shit and discord/twitter trannies tried to turn it into a meme to shit on fromsoft's writing

reading off item descriptions to even know the lore got old by the 2nd game

Painted World has the best level design in the entire game.
It's really strong as a standalone.
Frick Painted World, I was stuck in it for an hour searching for where to go before giving up and doing the jumping attack on the bridge glitch so I could leave. It's filled with obnoxious enemies as well
>level design
>go down a well and get stunlocked
>just a bunch of DeS references
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW NOTHING I COULD DO!
this would be my favorite area in the game if it weren't for those fricking c**t wheel skeletons in the well.
fromtroons is garbage. you cant even tell which game thats from just from the screenshot because its all the same rehashed slop.
dark souls 1
dick holes won?
ya
it's a pretty gimmicky novelty area that loses it's charm after you figure out you can run through it and be done with it under a minute
same but for the entire game + all games ever made

I like tomb of giants. Simple as.

Maybe because it's cool as frick. Dark place with dangerous enemies.
>"bu-but it's bad because...it's bad!"
no, it isn't, frick off.
I liked TotG, l thought crystal caves and new londo were worse

killed youp
have a nice day
you're gay

im genuinely curious who started this parade of "everything post anor lond is garbage and everyone who says otherwise is wrong"
anon, the second half of the game is unfinished, literally, the devs ran out of time and rushed it
some parts are unfinished but the game doesnt suddenly turn putrid like you will hear people say.
