Thanks, gonna go emulate that shit now. Needed something to do today and I didn't want it to be spend all day here.

It honestly does from a story perspective because it goes out of its way to make both law and chaos fairly rational choices while in most SMT games they're always comically evil and neutral is obviously the good ending. Mainline SMT has reached pokemon levels with that shit now where you can fricking tell exactly who is going to betray you and why within like 10 minutes because they're fricking color coded.
Wtf are you talking about? Aside from IV this is not the case. In V there isn't even a chaos route, only law (mirroring how Nocturne only had chaos without law).
>It honestly does from a story perspective because it goes out of its way to make both law and chaos fairly rational choices while in most SMT games they're always comically evil and neutral is obviously the good ending
Only in sj
Amd this is why no true smt gay liked that garbage and homosexuals that game brought into franchise
But the neutral ending isn't good either. It's explicitly just delaying the inevitable. The point of SJ is that humanity is fricked and there's no easy way out, and the misanthropic endings are the punctuation to that thesis.
Again, if you want happy-go-lucky everybody hold hands and sing kumbaya endings where nothing bad happens, play Redux, That's your game.

Thats neutral ending of every smt game, newbie
Point is, that in sj it was the only not garbage choice with how law and chaos picks were portrayed, and from them on we had always morons like you shitting threads about how neutral is always good pick.
8th Day Bel Lord route gives you the option of either being a complete evil prick, or gathering up the forces of humanity to wage war against the heavens from what I remember.
8th day is funny because you get the option to be an overlord peacefully, defeating everyone in your path and then kicking Metraton's ass back to Heaven, or be a complete butthole and just murder everyone for no reason. I still dont understand how Mari is still trying to justify our actions while Midori and Yuzu are justifiably horrified you just decide to murder people left and right.
I think the option to go full muderhobo was completely moronic, because it was never ever implied in the main main that demon lord route is going to be something like that. I believe it was always treated as if you become demon lord for the sake of humanity rather than to be sketchy tyrant.
My schizo theory is that the whole route was added to justify Yuzu's sudden betrayal in retrospect.

>I still dont understand how Mari is still trying to justify our actions
Because she fricking hates demons, wants them gone at absolutely any cost, and her only living attachments are kaido and MC
Because you're electing to become closer to the things that have been killing everyone in the city
On Day 8 you can b***hslap Naoya into doing things your way instead of going full murderboner for God
>why does the moron whose route revolves around knowingly leaving containment and dooming humanity say it's evil???
she's a fricking moron anon idk what to tell you
>one of the first alignment choices in SMT1 is picking that you'd sacrifice a girl
They sure try to pass off Chaos as grey but sure as frick trip on it at every turn
Overclocked, it has more content and the balance is very slightly better (see: skills that weren't as good as the autowin shit are now useable at lategame)
Do some characters still have 3 move in the remake? You have access to so much broken shit by the end of the game that I don’t think balance matters, I did play the tbh 2 remake and the last day was full on cheese, even worse than in 1 original
>increased difficulty
It's been a literal decade since I last played it, but was it actually more difficult? I remember phys being horribly broken in 2. Multi-strike trivializes absolutely everything.
Nothing in 2 is anywhere close to the Babel fight in 1. I got the no grind achievement without trying and I only reset stages until I found out what the gimmicks were.
I think most of the difficulty gets offset by the amount of cheese strats introduced with the upgraded racial skills, with shit like Evil Flow + Agitate + Pierce + Multi-Strike killing anything that doesn't have repel phys; or Uncanny Form + Drain + Mediarahan + Angel Stigma for infinite turns
no, 2 is easier (assuming you never fight free battles, never let anyone fall in battle, and never use the demon compendium)
you have access to many powerful skills and demons that aren't in the first game and your teammates have better distributed stats. So you kinda just steamroll through everything.
It's not like the first game is challenging, but the second game is even easier.
Great games otherwise though
>no matter how much people pretend midori and black frost dont exist
There's a notable difference between having two characters like that, and an entire cast like that. Midori gets her bullshit explained well enough (and shows the consequences of her shit) for me to give her a pass, at least.
Yeah, but the differences are those are two characters who your interaction with is optionally minimal, and in 2 the characters are all over the top and the same girl could be either executed by a moronic immigrant or letting you suck a fart out of her ass while another girl frots your dick.
>no matter how much people pretend midori and black frost dont exist
There's a notable difference between having two characters like that, and an entire cast like that. Midori gets her bullshit explained well enough (and shows the consequences of her shit) for me to give her a pass, at least.
Why are you gays shitting on Black Frost? Also Midori isn't bad. She would be if she was played totally straight and the entire point of saving her wasn't for her to calm her autism and take shit seriously.
The only characters I dislike in 2 are Keita, Ronaldo and Hinako. Mad scientist lady is kind of whatever but I don't actively think she's annoying most of the time.
Io is also kind of boring but I actually like Daichi a lot
I liked it because it departed from the usual angels and demons formula. The characters were a mixed bag, but Yamato was a really good character who pulled off making a kind of evil but very likable/sympathetic character which is something a LOT of games frick up.
I get what they were doing with Yuzu but it really helps tbh2's case that one of your core party members isn't designed solely to be narrative deadweight
Everyone sorta coming to terms with the fact that "This is what life is like now" and trying their best to help return it to normal by fighting back helps a lot.
I like Yuzu but there are some moments in the game where she realizes there's no going back to "I JUST WANNA GO HOME" despite knowing this is a trial.
2 Does characters better than 1
Some of the endings can be stupid, but overall I see people say the cast is enjoyable
The thing about 2 is that it actually gives you a chance to use the characters sooner and more consistently so they come off as more endearing more quickly. Yuzu probably wouldn't be so bad by herself but it feels like it takes forever before you get anyone on your side and while Me and Atsubro vs the world sounds well and good it doesn't help when one of your core trio is nagging you the whole while. Hell even if they gave her some more moments earlier to shine. Take the team coward from 2. He's a whiny nerd but it's not even chapter 2 before he's ramming a cosmic horror with a truck to save your ass.
>He's a whiny nerd but it's not even chapter 2 before he's ramming a cosmic horror with a truck to save your ass.
I remember even after this Daichi would constantly try his best to be useful
There was a event where I think You and him help save Hinako where he realizes he can't keep being scared.
Though honestly I still sorta wanna compare Yuzu to Io since It took Io a while to fully come to terms with the situation.
Like her finding her parents dead and sorta just wanting to give up (Been a while but IIRC you can lose Io by day 3 either because of suicide or getting attacked because she's alone and you didn't save her. vs Yuzu, who's mom was still fine at home and Yuzu just wanting to get home because she's acting selfishly because of the situation.
>2 is underrated
Does the story gets more SMT-like later on? I've tried it, but dropped immediately after seeing that we're fighting the dumb aliens instead of the usual mythological creatures.
It's much more evangelion than smt. Though it does still have a focus on re-shaping the world to certain ideals and people clashing over that so it's not like it's NOT smt. I like it.
Literally the only bug I've ever come across in tbh is the Beldr fight crashing.
You cant switch demons in battle or the game crashes.
The game can randomly crash in the auction house for reasons
The game can just randomly crash because beldr.
The premise was cool but it turns out the death clock is moronic. Pretty sure it just guesses when you'll encounter a demon it has no way to know you'll actually die. Basically game starts to drag after the premise as it goes on
When you gain the death clock power you exist outside of causality, effectively giving you the power to change the pre-ordained fates of others. Correct me if I'm wrong but all the death clocks come true without your intervention.
the clock is just a prediction that you'll face a big boss fight on a certain day. I thought it was fine, though I don't have any issue with the one-boss-per-day of the second game either
Pretty much. I liked seeing the Laplace Mail break down as you started changing everyone's fates, to the point where it's just gibberish by the end of the game.
No. It's named after Laplace's demon and is what powers the Death Clock. The game heavily implies that Naoya programmed it for the sole purpose of giving you the ability to overturn the fate that God imposes on humans.
I'm not gay so I can't speak for myself, but I'd say that bunny is the more attractive one based on the amount of people that have lustful interactions with him. >Io >Makoto >Otome >Yamato >AO >Miyako >Joe >Airi
Maybe even more wanted that bunny dick
Yoohoo
I'm a basic b***h but damn are her yoohoo's big
Plus she was a great healer for me my entire run.
Manga also has some cute moments with her that make me love her more
Ronaldo leads a mob that's trying to destroy the organization holding humanity together, but he wants justice and equality, making him the equivalent of a law ending (too bad he sucks so bad)
Yamato leads said organization holding humanity together and maintaining some semblance of order, but he wants a doggy-dog survival of the fittest world and feels no attachment to humanity, thus making him the equivalent of chaos.
I forgot to mention that Yamato's ending is apparently the one that Polaris herself prefers. Overall I thought that what tbh2 did with its endings was really neat instead of just going for Law/Neutral/Chaos
When tbh2 first came out, there was a single Ronaldo husbandogay who wrote very impassioned defenses of him. Other than that guy, no, most people seem to rightfully hate him.
I have seen it and I knew it would happen the second I lent that gay the game. He just seemed like the type of person that would agree with Ronaldo without actually thinking it through.
Not really. He was always kind of just an butthole making trouble.
He would probably be a bit more popular if he didn't kill makoto
Cold blood too. It's not like they did it in battle or some shit. Just gonna execution style the best girl onee-chan who was constantly looking out for everyone. I don't care what your ideology is. There's no bouncing back from that.
>I find it funny how not once have I ever seen someone say they chose Ronaldo's route first.
I ended up picking his route in Tri first, despite meeting the requirements for the "true" route. Base game Ronnie can go frick himself though.
Atlus lost a lot of soul once they transitioned from making cool SMT spinoffs with unique settings and casts to just making persona spinoffs recycling everything.
devil survivor was made by a developer that atlus had just absorbed so it feels very different than most other games, don't play this if you're specifically interested in atlus or smt. But do play this if you want a good game.
3, 4, 4: Apocalypse (only after playing 4), 5, both Devil Survivors in sequence, and Strange Journey (Redux too if you want) are good starting points in no particular order. However >4 references 2 >4 and 4: Apocalypse are in the same universe but the latter has another protagonist >5 references 3 >both Devil Survivors can be played independently but I recommend playing the first one first because 2 builds up on the mechanics >don't play Strange Journey (Redux) if you hate dungeon crawling (but you mentioned EO so I think you'll like it)
After playing these, you can move to older entries, like SMT 1 and 2, Digital Devil Saga, Raidou etc.
I started the series this year with SMT1 and am going through in release order; I just finished SJ. I'm a big EO nerd too but the gameplay and dungeons in the first 3 games (including if...) are pretty mediocre, but the story and atmosphere of those games were excellent.
Nocturne, I would say, is probably a great starting point. Not too challenging to ease you into the series.
The games in the OP are spinoffs so not necessarily representative of SMT but are amongst my favourite games of all time.
>Never played another Atlus property other than EO
It's frankly all downhill from there, EO is their best franchise. Megami Tensei is wildly inconsistent. Though I might suggest giving Strange Journey a shot since its dungeon crawling is similar to EO. No manual mapping will hurt though.
Not really. The games isolate the Bel part of the names with a nakaguro, so they become ベル・デル, ベル・イアル, イザ・ベル, and so on. However, these aren't standard names for those demons in Japanese either. For example, Belial should be べリアル, which lacks the ベル.
unironically one of my favorite parts of the name
fricking loopholed into becoming the ruler of Bel and one of the strongest SMT protagonists
what a fricking chad
he 1v1's lucifer, and wins. And not bullshit Demi-fiend test defeats but legitimately defeats him. Full power lucifer is weaker than full power Abel. That alone puts him near the top of the verse. Also at the end of the despot ending he defeats metatron pretty handedly, and shows that his power at the point of defeating Lucifer and heavens' number 2 is nothing compared to the power he fully inherits from becoming King of Bel. Once he starts to get the power, Metatron says "yup, there's no fricking way" and fricking runs away. While we never physicall see how strong he is, he's strong enough to be top of the verse and gets an absurd off screen power up. How he stacks up against YHWH is unknown, he's pretty strong.
He doesn't lose, at least immediately, and is able to still rule earth with an iron fist. What conclusions you wanna draw from that is up to you, but it shows he's at least one of the stronger SMT protags
>over 10 years ago >Ganker wont stop sucking this game off >give it a try >use literally any attack in the game including magic >plays a generic “punch” sound effect that’s been used in every tv show, cartoon, and shovelware video game since the 90s

But why does the fire spell play a generic punch sfx

Because a punch would be extremely painful

Did you read what I said? It doesn't? It's a different sound, if you think that sounds like a punch that's on you.
Also, this is such a weird thing to be a deal breaker, but your loss I guess.

Anon... that fire effect does sound different than the punch.
Are you guys fricking with me? That is not a burning sound effect

Aren't you confusing the phys the order of the attacks? it goes >Atsuro attacks kobold (phys) >Kobold attacks Kabuso (phys, crit) >Kobold attacks Atsuro(phys, miss) >Kabuso attacks Kobold (fire, weak) <- this one has a different sound effect.

The kobold crit also has a different sound effect, but the difference is mainly in pitch

Ok man, whatever you say. I'm sorry you dislike the fire effect so much you won't play a game whose praise you based this entire argument on was never the sound effects, but what can I do? Go play something else.
Not him but that doesn't really sound like a punch. I've played the game quite a lot and it really just sounds like a typical fire burning sfx.
I guess I can't blame you though considering the poor audio quality.
story was kind of moronic, I think only 2 party members were interesting (besides the e-girl, of course), went WAY too hard into the visual novel elements and not enough into the SRPG elements, the moral choice system, which in theory was really fricking cool, did little but choose what your agumon digivolved to and which party member betrays you and doesn't even unlock actual cool dialogue because the MC is such a piece of soggy bread he can't actually have a personality, and the endings are meh at best, and easily the biggest issue I had with it personally was that they treat mature enlightening slabs like they're fricking solid gold. I had a betamon I wanted to turn into a seadramon until damn near the end of the game before I could get them from Magnaangemon drops. Turns out if you don't farm fricking fangmon at the beginning of the game they're pretty sparse, which also kind of sucks since all the recruited digimon I used also just fricking sucked. Probably needed to shovel the stat boosters into them, but oh well, Agumon and Gallantmon made the game their b***h. I'd love to see a sequel where they make it better, but the game was half baked.
standard atlus procedure of ruining a game with a good story by remaking it and adding a poochy-tier waifu who just happens to know exactly how to solve everyone's problems and get you the best ending that wasn't considered the first time around
>Play Overclocked for the first time >Friend played original >"Dude, go for the Amane Arc, the ending is badass" >Okay sure >Amane ending is becoming God's b***h >Epilogue is even worse because you're god's b***h AND the only cool dude, Naoya hates my ass for most of it
And I learned never to trust that friend with video games ever again. Fricking Yuzu's ending was better, at least it was funny.
>Fricking Yuzu's ending was better
I find her route so baffling >shomonkai says if you leave, humanity will be culled >government says if you leave, humanity will be culled >angel says if you leave, humanity will be culled >demon says if you leave, humanity will be culled >but like, I want to go home 🙁 >leave >humanity is culled
what a stupid b***h
Don't worry overclocked fixed it :^) Honestly while the other two 8th days were pretty fun in their own right, adding one to Yuzu's kinda ruined the point of it.
Whenever I play games with moral choices I usually default to being comically evil, so imagine my shock when becoming the king of Bel and revolting against god was the actual best ending
>becoming God's b***h
First SMT? You always become God's champion, at least in this one you get to tell the angels to suck it and let you do your softer brand of Law.
it's easy if you just walk up to him and hit him over and over, but some morons summon ranged demons and move every turn to attack from a range, which means they don't get two hits per battle and their turns take much longer to come around
It’s not really the boss himself but the rest of the enemies in that level are so much stronger than your characters and you have to move pretty quickly. If you allow Beldr to get healed then you lose and it’s not that easy to stop that.
I found keeping demons that heal the MC and themselves works very nicely
Try not to use them as field skills cause that waste turn time,
Just walk up to him and punch him with the MC and use the demons to keep themselves/The MC alive.
it's easy if you just walk up to him and hit him over and over, but some morons summon ranged demons and move every turn to attack from a range, which means they don't get two hits per battle and their turns take much longer to come around
This anon basically has described all the ways I struggled with it initially. The extra attacks help a lot.
I have this on my 3ds and never got around to playing it? Keep in mind i slogged through FF tactics a2. Does this game take 15hrs to pick up or is it good from the jump?
I feel it picks up very fast imo. There's no exploration so you just go from story event to story event on the fly while there are Free Fights available 90% of the time to grind and get skills at your leisure over there.
>Not sure what mod you want for this game.
just make a hard mode so I can finally make use of the battle system
It has so much potential, but there's never a need to optimize in the game as it is.
I don't think there is a single atlus anime that isn't. Hell, one of the devil children anime was so bad it got canceled half way through and half of the episodes are now lost media.
The original Persona 4 anime is fine for what it is, it played up a lot of the inherent goofiness in the game and did some fun original stuff with the characters.
I know the bar is low but even accounting for that it was just... absolutely joyless. They rushed through the whole game barely gave anything time to breath. Made Bunny an absolute sad sack instead of picking the fun dialogue choices for some reason and completely raped the characters sideways in terms of personality. Yamato is just LE BADGUY! When his actual meritocracy is a lot more nuanced. He's not some HUR DURR I HATE WEAK PEOPLE edgelord.
Game Yammy is great. The best part is when you actually do something impressive or know shit or even disagree with him he actually considers it admirable instead of just screaming about MUH STRONG.
homies on Ganker really be like: >This game in the same series made by the exact same people sure is better than the others and I will cause massive shitflinging arguments to defend this point
Protags are almost as bad as Persona 3 party >mob of rapists want to rape and kill girl, while lawgay glasses guy wants to kill them to defend her? >we can't allow that! We just need to beat them and let them go, killing is wrong because we have powers of demons while they only have weapons and numbers
Literally disgusting
Second game handled it way bettet
I find Yuzu a very reasonable character. She is a teenage girl when the apocalypse starts, most of the time she has no idea what is going on, and she had only 1 week to get used to it. Her actions are similar to what most people would act in a similar situation.
The issue is that the Lawgay just didn't had the power to back up his idea of justice - if you ignore him, he gets killed by the ones he is trying to punish.
Yes, but he went after a bunch of gangsters that also could summon demons. He was even stronger than them individually, but against all of them he ends up getting killed.
>Bu.... but teenager.
Oh frick off. Yuzu's not annoying because she freaks out. She's not annoying because she starts out roughly. She's annoying because she never changes. She never gets better. All the other characters are "regular" people too. But they get arcs. They get motivations. They get to do shit. Yuzu just spends the whole game screaming about running away even though she knows she can't and that it's impossible. I am so sick of this bullshit excuse for her being crappy.
Again, she had less than one week to get used to it.
And a whole bunch of the other characters ARE NOT regular people, and some of the ones that are just seem more ridiculous to how easy they adapt, like the cosplayer girl.
>Again, she had less than one week to get used to it.
Again, bullshit. These are stories of survival. That changes you. Yes for the fantastical. But it does change you. You don't get to hand wave not changing in a story because "It's realistic" because guess what, it's not. It's not realistic for her to not change. It's not realistic for her to not develop. It's not realistic for her to just constantly whine without becoming at least a bit used to her new status quo. You change fast or you die. And more importantly, if she's not going to develop then she has no purpose being in the story. She's boring.
>Again, she had less than one week to get used to it.
when every figure in power and all mythical deities across all cultures on earth are telling you "if you run away the world will end" and you actively work against your group to try and run away, you're a gigantic smelly moron
>I find Yuzu a very reasonable character.
Sure, but you play SMT games to do cool shit with demons and angels, not to whine that you what go home and continue your normal mundane life. I.e. you need characters that go full murdermanaic or preach for weird cults or adapt some other "abnormal" ideologies. Meanwhile Yuzu is a reasonable character, but a pointless one, even her non-OC ending is literally a nothingburger for the very same reason — it's reasonable, but it's not the ending you plat SMT for.
Fair enough, I think it was good to have one "normal" character for the sake of comparison, but maybe it would have been better if she wasn't from the main party.
And more importantly, if she's not going to develop then she has no purpose being in the story. She's boring.
Either you are moronic and didn't notice how she was getting adapted, or you are an autist that doesn't even know how normal people think. Probably both.
>I think it was good to have one "normal" character for the sake of comparison
The only reason we should ever have a NORMAL character is to pitch a neutral reset to normal route. The point of a NORMAL character should be the ground the characters to reality not throw a b***h fit every dialogue. She's a shit character who doesn't even do that. We had enough normalcy from every other character at the start of the game. We don't need a constant pointless reminder. And you can be NORMAL without being frustrating. Just admit you want to rape her breasts off and quit it with this bullshit "MUH NORMAL" crap.
>I think it was good to have one "normal" character for the sake of comparison
I think there are better ways to do that. Something like homiechad from SJ for example. He also represents "normal" side — he wants to be done with angels and demons and just let humans do human things without meddling from some outside forces. But it's much more interesting than Yuzu. Not only because he has a proper character arc and because his stance is "active" — he wants to "fix" the world properly, not just run away and pretend nothing is going on.
It held up given the limitations. Not saying it is a bad game. Item menuing and live action combat could been so much better if the game was made with current standards and tech though. Don't even want a remake as much as just seeing what could had been possible with the same idea but with our current systems.
>Item menuing and live action combat could been so much better if the game was made with current standards and tech though.
The tech they had at the time was perfectly fine. There were a lot of good action RPGs on the PS2, Atlus just sucks at them.
Absolutely based thread, I was playing tbh 2 right before hopping on this thread lmao. I already beat all the 3DS SMT games years ago but I recently emulated them all out of boredom. In terms of story (just taking into account the 3DS era of SMT) tbh 1 is definitely my favorite with Strange Journey (frick Redux’s story) and 4 being close seconds. In terms of gameplay most definitely Apocalypse though.
>still have no fricking idea why there is a yamato in drag or what her deal is
Record Breaker story additions. In case the vanilla story wasn't batty enough for your tastes, Record Breaker takes it a step and a leap forward.
Tri route in Record Breaker is sort of an ideal route where the party goes true reset but managed to recruit psyduk as well. >During the reset some more aliens attack and corrupt Bunny's data cause they know he's the strongest link >Because Bunny gets corrupted he doesn't make it through the reset >New aliens attack, the party manages to win but everyone except Yamato and Psyduk die >Psyduk finds a way to fix this shit >Next reset, Bunny is back but Yamato is missing >The world knows that something is wrong so they make their own Yamato, but because Yamato was such a flaming homosexual for Bunny it mistook him for a girl instead which is why we have Miyako
>On a side note tho I’m curious what alignment routes people here go for, I always go for Chaos.
DeSu1 is one of the rare cases where most routes are pretty good and make a lot of sense.
Also > let's return everything to normal
may sound boring, but it's still portrayed in a pretty cool way with that song magic and with Haru being cute.
>use a reflect spell to reflect Kudlak’s stone spell at him >he accidentally stones himself in the process >stand back and proceed to watch Mari beat his ass to death
I love the amount of bullshit you can pull in these games
>get to Jezebel fight >equip the Fire Drain skill >proceed to absorb the lava on the ground to restore my own HP and no-sell Jezebel’s fire attacks
>you can just use the Flight, Chaos Wave, or Teleportation racial skills to bypass Belberith’s bridges and attack him anyway without needing to activate the terminals
Tactica can be regarded as good than tbh if it had more mechanics that involve positioning and other SRPG mechanics(tbh was kinda weak in that regard) instead of just being a Demon-raising game with tactical combat . So far from the trailer it had potential.
Fumi
I honestly love about every Girl presented but Fumi's willingness to beat a demon with a laptop and strip you in front of others makes me love her more
One of the first games I downloaded onto my Acecard 2i back in the day; I had never heard of SMT and only got it because I liked the cover art and it reminded me of TWEWY.
Good times. Nearly 15 years later and this song still lives rent free in my head:
it's nothing like Persona
tbh 3 when btw? Or collection
Is that the first one or sequel? I've been thinking about it recently because I never played either.
first one, 3ds remaster
Thanks, gonna go emulate that shit now. Needed something to do today and I didn't want it to be spend all day here.
have fun, shit is addicting.
Though end-game is really annoying with the grinding and money needed
The first one
There are actually two versions to both games, the originals on DS and the remakes on 3DS
The ones on 3DS have improved gfx, voice acting and some features to make the game a bit less of a hassle to play.
do you see a 2 there you dumb moron?
It mogs SMT too.
SMT V Law and Chaos was not evil
You could tell who was law, chaos, or neutral by the music
Wtf are you talking about? Aside from IV this is not the case. In V there isn't even a chaos route, only law (mirroring how Nocturne only had chaos without law).
SJ is not mainline, btw.
um well ackshually wikipedia says SJ is mainline
Well then they have old info. This is the canon mainline according to Atlus.
You're confusing mainline with numbered
>canon
You mean official
>It honestly does from a story perspective because it goes out of its way to make both law and chaos fairly rational choices while in most SMT games they're always comically evil and neutral is obviously the good ending

SJ's endings being so dire is the point and you're a brainlet if you fail to understand that.
Don't worry though, they made Redux for people like you.
>only neutral ending being happy and good was the point, because muh humanity and their own choices
Lol
have a nice day
But the neutral ending isn't good either.
>But the neutral ending isn't good either. It's explicitly just delaying the inevitable.
Thats neutral ending of every smt game, newbie
Point is, that in sj it was the only not garbage choice with how law and chaos picks were portrayed, and from them on we had always morons like you shitting threads about how neutral is always good pick.
>Wanting to become the demon lord so you have total control over everything is le evil
Who thought that was a good idea?
Your 8th Day bro?
I played the DS version. I saw my brother play a bit of the 3DS version but he quit at the Baldur battle because he couldn’t be bothered to get good.
8th Day Bel Lord route gives you the option of either being a complete evil prick, or gathering up the forces of humanity to wage war against the heavens from what I remember.
>I still dont understand how Mari is still trying to justify our actions
Because she fricking hates demons, wants them gone at absolutely any cost, and her only living attachments are kaido and MC
ya it's pretty evil actually
It's not evil, it's chaotic.
Chaos isn't inherently evil.
Why does the girls in your party act like you’re the devil for doing that then and you don’t get the chance to defend yourself?
Because you're electing to become closer to the things that have been killing everyone in the city
On Day 8 you can b***hslap Naoya into doing things your way instead of going full murderboner for God
>why does the moron whose route revolves around knowingly leaving containment and dooming humanity say it's evil???
she's a fricking moron anon idk what to tell you
>one of the first alignment choices in SMT1 is picking that you'd sacrifice a girl
They sure try to pass off Chaos as grey but sure as frick trip on it at every turn
I mean you can become a good demon lord
SRPGs are universally superior
It also mogs all smt
Pretty much. It does the relationship and calendar systems so much better it's not even funny.
Japanese girls dont shave their pits
>pic
yamato bros? what happened to your lack of all body odor?
It's a great game but I made the mistake of picking the dogshit Yuzu non-ending
now I have to replay it
This is what you get for playing a SMT or SMT spin-off game without using a guide
NG+ at least goes by fast with all the perks.
why even play if you have cheats? It's more fun to start a new save file.
Haru is built for sex
>permanent risk of nipple slip
>risk
Is a 100% chance really a "risk" at that point?
It's always hiding with angles and coincidental coverage, so it's not one breast out territory
wtf she has her nip out there just like that?
>Those legs
Damn, you really can't tell in the game.
which version do I play?
Overclocked/Break Record for both.
2 is underrated
>but persona and muh tone
i dont care
>>but persona and muh tone
nobody says this homie stop talking with the demons inside your head
2 is still a good game, but it rightfully deserves the criticism it gets.
I think it's rated perfectly here as-is
>Utterly tone-deaf and over the top anime shit but a much better SRPG overall due to increased difficulty
>increased difficulty
It's been a literal decade since I last played it, but was it actually more difficult? I remember phys being horribly broken in 2. Multi-strike trivializes absolutely everything.
If you're not grinding profusely, it is a tougher time than the first one. Partly because the bosses are gimmicky as frick.
It really depends whether or not you go for the really cheesy builds available in 2
>but a much better SRPG overall due to increased difficulty
It's really not that much harder outside of a few fights in the new arc.
being a better srpg is a very big deal considering how long these games are no matter how much people pretend midori and black frost dont exist
>no matter how much people pretend midori and black frost dont exist
There's a notable difference between having two characters like that, and an entire cast like that. Midori gets her bullshit explained well enough (and shows the consequences of her shit) for me to give her a pass, at least.
Yeah, but the differences are those are two characters who your interaction with is optionally minimal, and in 2 the characters are all over the top and the same girl could be either executed by a moronic immigrant or letting you suck a fart out of her ass while another girl frots your dick.
Why are you gays shitting on Black Frost? Also Midori isn't bad. She would be if she was played totally straight and the entire point of saving her wasn't for her to calm her autism and take shit seriously.
the characters in 2 aren't bad either but that doesnt stop 1 purists from having shitfits about them
The only characters I dislike in 2 are Keita, Ronaldo and Hinako. Mad scientist lady is kind of whatever but I don't actively think she's annoying most of the time.
Io is also kind of boring but I actually like Daichi a lot
It's hard to frick up something that builds upon a game that was already really good. Still not as good as the original
I liked it because it departed from the usual angels and demons formula. The characters were a mixed bag, but Yamato was a really good character who pulled off making a kind of evil but very likable/sympathetic character which is something a LOT of games frick up.
Record Breaker is one of my favorite games of all time.
It was a good game and I would Yamato
I would:
>Miyako
>Airi
>Otome
>Makoto
>Fumi
>Female Tico
before I even bothered with Yamato
2 Does characters better than 1
Some of the endings can be stupid, but overall I see people say the cast is enjoyable
You know shit about mythology.
It's much more evangelion than smt. Though it does still have a focus on re-shaping the world to certain ideals and people clashing over that so it's not like it's NOT smt. I like it.
>ALL OF THE CHARACTERS IN 2 ARE CRINGE ANIME ALL THE TIME THOUGH
not even worth the (You)
Anyone else think the protagonist of Devil Survivor 2 is hot?
>t.Yamato
I like this game and I nearly 100% all the endings, which this was got a bit more attention than it ended up getting in the end
Have both of these games sitting digitally on my 3ds collecting dust. How are the soundtracks? I might start playing the first one tonight
Both have banger osts especially the first
the soundtracks are some of the best in smt though their impact is definitely lost without context
Very good.
Though 1's soundtrack is kinda limited so it can get kinda repetitive.
What do you think of him?
Literally me
Based autist
wdym?
I always pick the third joke/autistic response when prompted
What do you think of the art?
Fumi is a lucky girl
Why was Yamato so gay for him?
you mean what do you think of me
Are you the same autist from the TWEWY threads?
This game would be so much better if it wasn't a buggy mess of shit.
There are so many game crashing bugs, it makes soul hackers look polished,
Literally the only bug I've ever come across in tbh is the Beldr fight crashing.
A lot of 3ds games are being rereleased on switch maybe this will
I didn't encounter any bugs in the 200 hours I played it.
You cant switch demons in battle or the game crashes.
The game can randomly crash in the auction house for reasons
The game can just randomly crash because beldr.
NTA but I have also never encountered any of this
Are you emulating the game?
No, it's the perks of playing the PAL/EU version on actual hardward
>You cant switch demons in battle or the game crashes.
it "only" freezes for a few minutes
I honestly think its a (You) issue, dude.
dude you're playing the unpatched european version, ghostlight as always fricked up, the patch is available on the eshop
For me, it's MISAKI.
fr?
fr?
Wasn't the Lapalce Mail just Metatron sending you messages with the last one being a frick you depending on the path you choose?
AFAIK it was more COMP frickery like the death clock from Naoya
No. It's named after Laplace's demon and is what powers the Death Clock. The game heavily implies that Naoya programmed it for the sole purpose of giving you the ability to overturn the fate that God imposes on humans.
They should've really stopped beating around the bush at the point of the sequel and just give us real S.links with them.
foomy, my beloved
Who do you think is more attractive, the tbh 1 or 2 MC?
2, why do you ask?
I'm not gay so I can't speak for myself, but I'd say that bunny is the more attractive one based on the amount of people that have lustful interactions with him.
>Io
>Makoto
>Otome
>Yamato
>AO
>Miyako
>Joe
>Airi
Maybe even more wanted that bunny dick
Who do you think is more attractive in terms of face?
*sigh* fine, I think Abel edges it out slightly.
Why?
I'm gay and like the protag design from 1 more though neither of them are really hot to me.
You're not just a gay. You're a tasteless gay.
Okay I guess. The headphones are just cooler than the hoodie.
Choose. Now.
Mari
>When you want to spend some quality time with your Yahooo GF but that one cult prostitute also wants your dick
>Midori's dub voice
I didn't mind her as Chie but man was she bad in tbh
Sex with Haru
Midori then church girl then military girl(who didnt get a full body image, what the frick), then Haru then Mari, then shit, then Yoohoo.
Yoohoo from 1 and Io from 2
I love stacies and basic b***hes
Stop objectifying my wife
Amane was pretty cool as far as Lawgays go. Though I wish her good personality kept her breasts out.
How does on franchise have TWO Harus as the best girls of their respective games?
Who is the other Haru?
Can't beat the floofy hair.
Haru = Amane > Mari > Midori > irrelevant officer > burning pile of trash > betraying prostitute Yuzu
Yoohoo
I'm a basic b***h but damn are her yoohoo's big
Plus she was a great healer for me my entire run.
Manga also has some cute moments with her that make me love her more
>follows you no matter what
what a cool guy
The reporter girl.
I find it funny how not once have I ever seen someone say they chose Ronaldo's route first. Does anybody like him?
He would probably be a bit more popular if he didn't kill makoto
I liked him in the Triangulum arc
>let's fight EVERY STAR IN THE UNIVERSE FOR ETERNITY
solid plan
That plan was so fricking stupid it looped back to being metal as hell.
No he's fricking awful. But then again he's basically the law route do it makes sense.
I thought Ronaldo was chaos, or at least the closest equivalent
DeSu2 doesn't really have chaos vs law, it's more meritocracy vs socialism
No, that'd be Yamato "Justified Genocide" Hotsuin
yamato and ronaldo are both law: polaris brainwashes humanity
psyduck and waterworld are chaos: kill polaris
reset is neutral
Cold blood too. It's not like they did it in battle or some shit. Just gonna execution style the best girl onee-chan who was constantly looking out for everyone. I don't care what your ideology is. There's no bouncing back from that.
Was he the commie?
Boy was he ever.
>I find it funny how not once have I ever seen someone say they chose Ronaldo's route first.
I ended up picking his route in Tri first, despite meeting the requirements for the "true" route. Base game Ronnie can go frick himself though.
Tri Ronnie is cool, he's kinda like the straight man awkward big bro of the group after chilling the frick out.
Sept Ronnie can eat a bullet.
>YUCKzu
YUCK! No THANKS!!!!
Atlus used to be so good in the 2000s
Its fricking weird to think that these came out so close to each other and that tbh will be 15 in a few months.
Atlus lost a lot of soul once they transitioned from making cool SMT spinoffs with unique settings and casts to just making persona spinoffs recycling everything.
Fixed
frfr no cap that game be BUSSIN'
Never played another Atlus property other than EO, never liked persona, but i'm willing to give SMT a spin, which games are the best to go through?
You have the best one in the OP
devil survivor was made by a developer that atlus had just absorbed so it feels very different than most other games, don't play this if you're specifically interested in atlus or smt. But do play this if you want a good game.
Pretty much everything on the 3DS along with Digital Devil Saga on PS2
3, 4, 4: Apocalypse (only after playing 4), 5, both Devil Survivors in sequence, and Strange Journey (Redux too if you want) are good starting points in no particular order. However
>4 references 2
>4 and 4: Apocalypse are in the same universe but the latter has another protagonist
>5 references 3
>both Devil Survivors can be played independently but I recommend playing the first one first because 2 builds up on the mechanics
>don't play Strange Journey (Redux) if you hate dungeon crawling (but you mentioned EO so I think you'll like it)
After playing these, you can move to older entries, like SMT 1 and 2, Digital Devil Saga, Raidou etc.
Play Strange Journey since the EO team worked on it
Here you go
>still no Lucifer s Call
at the end of the day, they all fricking suck. seriously.
if the story isnt shit, the gamelay will be. and the gameplay never goes beyond ok.
Release order is always correct anyone who says otherwise is a moron.
So do I need to read the original digital devil story novels or can I start with famicom megami tensei?
RELEASE ORDER.
>release order
>on a series with barely any continuity and a ton of spin-offs
dude
moron just read the novel, watch the ova, then play the first famicom game
????
What point are you trying to make with this post? How is that a rebuttal to what I said?
Of all series to be anal about release order you chose one of the least connected, diverse and full of spinoffs. Congrats, moron.
>Never played another Atlus property other than EO
It's frankly all downhill from there, EO is their best franchise. Megami Tensei is wildly inconsistent. Though I might suggest giving Strange Journey a shot since its dungeon crawling is similar to EO. No manual mapping will hurt though.
>Beldr
>Belberith
>Belial
>Jezebel
>Belzaboul
>Babel
>Abel
KINOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Whoever came up with the scenario for tbh 1 was a genius
I wonder if it works better in japanese, some are quite a stretch in english
Not really. The games isolate the Bel part of the names with a nakaguro, so they become ベル・デル, ベル・イアル, イザ・ベル, and so on. However, these aren't standard names for those demons in Japanese either. For example, Belial should be べリアル, which lacks the ベル.
Cool, thanks for the info
I thought it was the stupidest shit ever, but was glad with how far they could take it.
unironically one of my favorite parts of the name
fricking loopholed into becoming the ruler of Bel and one of the strongest SMT protagonists
what a fricking chad
>and one of the strongest SMT protagonists
How strong is Abel compared to all the other SMT protagonist?
he 1v1's lucifer, and wins.
Doesn't he also go to war with the great will like demi-fiend and is eventually able to go back home?
He doesn't lose, at least immediately, and is able to still rule earth with an iron fist. What conclusions you wanna draw from that is up to you, but it shows he's at least one of the stronger SMT protags
Wonder if he'll ever show up again
>no cap
i want zoomer Black folk to leave my board
he's being ironic stupid fricking moron
>Ganker wont stop sucking this game off
>give it a try
>use literally any attack in the game including magic
>plays a generic “punch” sound effect that’s been used in every tv show, cartoon, and shovelware video game since the 90s
Never listening to you homosexuals again
Weak bait
Not bait at all, there’s literally no excuse to use the most generic sound effect of all time when you have a huge soundbank to choose from
Play the 3ds versions, moron.
6:35
>Different sounds for physical and magic attacks, magic also has an extra wind-up sfx, enemy physical also has a different sound
My man, fix your ears
But why does the fire spell play a generic punch sfx
Because a punch would be extremely painful
Did you read what I said? It doesn't? It's a different sound, if you think that sounds like a punch that's on you.
Also, this is such a weird thing to be a deal breaker, but your loss I guess.
Are you guys fricking with me? That is not a burning sound effect
Aren't you confusing the phys the order of the attacks? it goes
>Atsuro attacks kobold (phys)
>Kobold attacks Kabuso (phys, crit)
>Kobold attacks Atsuro(phys, miss)
>Kabuso attacks Kobold (fire, weak) <- this one has a different sound effect.
Anon... that fire effect does sound different than the punch.
I refuse to believe P5T would sell better than a hypothetical tbh3
I hope it flops just to hopefully get them to frick off with the P5 spinoffs.
I will always be mad they had to nerf the best song
Here's your third game bro
everything about this game made me excited, and when I played it, it was (mostly) shit
At least I got the Guilmon and was able to use chad Gallantmon
Why was it shit?
story was kind of moronic, I think only 2 party members were interesting (besides the e-girl, of course), went WAY too hard into the visual novel elements and not enough into the SRPG elements, the moral choice system, which in theory was really fricking cool, did little but choose what your agumon digivolved to and which party member betrays you and doesn't even unlock actual cool dialogue because the MC is such a piece of soggy bread he can't actually have a personality, and the endings are meh at best, and easily the biggest issue I had with it personally was that they treat mature enlightening slabs like they're fricking solid gold.
What the hell's the lyrics?
play it backwards
this game is absolutely kino, just like radiant historia and they will never be touched again
>just like radiant historia and they will never be touched again
They did once and they fricking ruined it.
That's almost every atlus remake.
> ruined it
Qrd?
Tomboy gays cry that the princess doesn't look like a lesbian now.
standard atlus procedure of ruining a game with a good story by remaking it and adding a poochy-tier waifu who just happens to know exactly how to solve everyone's problems and get you the best ending that wasn't considered the first time around
>Play Overclocked for the first time
>Friend played original
>"Dude, go for the Amane Arc, the ending is badass"
>Okay sure
>Amane ending is becoming God's b***h
>Epilogue is even worse because you're god's b***h AND the only cool dude, Naoya hates my ass for most of it
And I learned never to trust that friend with video games ever again. Fricking Yuzu's ending was better, at least it was funny.
>Fricking Yuzu's ending was better
I find her route so baffling
>shomonkai says if you leave, humanity will be culled
>government says if you leave, humanity will be culled
>angel says if you leave, humanity will be culled
>demon says if you leave, humanity will be culled
>but like, I want to go home 🙁
>leave
>humanity is culled
what a stupid b***h
Don't worry overclocked fixed it :^)
Honestly while the other two 8th days were pretty fun in their own right, adding one to Yuzu's kinda ruined the point of it.
Whenever I play games with moral choices I usually default to being comically evil, so imagine my shock when becoming the king of Bel and revolting against god was the actual best ending
>becoming God's b***h
First SMT? You always become God's champion, at least in this one you get to tell the angels to suck it and let you do your softer brand of Law.
chaos despot route is easily the best, and arguably, canon route
yoohoo shitters need not apply
So long as I get to frick yoohoo, the rest of the world doesn't matter
>boring tactics game
The only thing it has are cyber bawds
>boring
get off my internet
the fact they didn't tone back the beldr fight a little in the remake is insane to me. that shit is aggravating as frick.
I dont understand you guys' problem, you just hit him with the protagonist. He dies in like 5 hits or so.
it's easy if you just walk up to him and hit him over and over, but some morons summon ranged demons and move every turn to attack from a range, which means they don't get two hits per battle and their turns take much longer to come around
It’s not really the boss himself but the rest of the enemies in that level are so much stronger than your characters and you have to move pretty quickly. If you allow Beldr to get healed then you lose and it’s not that easy to stop that.
How did you defeat Beldr?
Use a demon that can attack from a distance and another that can let you do battle twice per turn
Walk up to him and slap his shit don't be a fricking pussy
I found keeping demons that heal the MC and themselves works very nicely
Try not to use them as field skills cause that waste turn time,
Just walk up to him and punch him with the MC and use the demons to keep themselves/The MC alive.
This anon basically has described all the ways I struggled with it initially. The extra attacks help a lot.
Catch him under the mistletoe and tell him to pucker up
Punch him in the face while being magic build to assert dominance.
Are there any Devil Survivor fan mods?
Is it possible to mod?
Undub mod
HQ audio/sprite mod
I think that's it. Not sure what mod you want for this game. The TL doesn't get butchered by localization anyway
2's dub is even actually pretty solid. First game's dub is a bit crap though.
More maps?
I dunno what extent the game can easily be modded
>Not sure what mod you want for this game.
just make a hard mode so I can finally make use of the battle system
It has so much potential, but there's never a need to optimize in the game as it is.
can i get some jrpgs which are not extremely generic in terms of story? valkyrie profile and xenogears come to mind
>those
>not generic
Anon.... I....
looking at now its played out like shit thats why i want something new
God the anime was so bad. Depressingly so.
Is going STR in record breaker as bad as it is in OC?
The OG DS is one of the first JRPG that gotten me into the genre, and still my favorite JRPG of all time. and OC improves everything. Absolute Kino.
Game Yammy is great. The best part is when you actually do something impressive or know shit or even disagree with him he actually considers it admirable instead of just screaming about MUH STRONG.
homies on Ganker really be like:
>This game in the same series made by the exact same people sure is better than the others and I will cause massive shitflinging arguments to defend this point
>mog
>cap
go back to plebbit you monkey Black person
My absolute favorite game of all time. It's just fantastic in every regard, and I deeply lament the series' death.
>This game completely mogs persona
That's an extremely low bar to set. A LOT of games are better than Persona.
I still miss original Persona
Where the FRICK is tbh3?
All I want out of tbh3 is a fight with the MC's of 1 and 2
Protags are almost as bad as Persona 3 party
>mob of rapists want to rape and kill girl, while lawgay glasses guy wants to kill them to defend her?
>we can't allow that!
It was years since I played game, but pretty sure he already could summon demons
Not only because he has a proper character arc and because his stance is "active" — he wants to "fix" the world properly, not just run away and pretend nothing is going on.
do you guys think you could beat babel in a fight irl
I want a new Raidou game, it had potential but PS2 hardware held it back too much.
>PS2 hardware held it back too much
Did it? I think it holds up pretty well.
How did you feel the first time you heard this?
>POV Midori is being a dumbass
God I haven't heard the soundtrack in years, I knew it would be this song but it still gave me goosebumps
Loved this game
Should be 14 days with some base building mechanics.
In terms of gameplay most definitely Apocalypse though.
very based tastes and judgments
i only every play psyduck route on DS and still have no fricking idea why there is a yamato in drag or what her deal is
>still have no fricking idea why there is a yamato in drag or what her deal is
Record Breaker story additions. In case the vanilla story wasn't batty enough for your tastes, Record Breaker takes it a step and a leap forward.
Tri route in Record Breaker is sort of an ideal route where the party goes true reset but managed to recruit psyduk as well.
>During the reset some more aliens attack and corrupt Bunny's data cause they know he's the strongest link
>Because Bunny gets corrupted he doesn't make it through the reset
>New aliens attack, the party manages to win but everyone except Yamato and Psyduk die
>Psyduk finds a way to fix this shit
>Next reset, Bunny is back but Yamato is missing
>The world knows that something is wrong so they make their own Yamato, but because Yamato was such a flaming homosexual for Bunny it mistook him for a girl instead which is why we have Miyako
Miyako, my beloved.
>inb4 yamato in drag
That only makes it hotter. You think that'd stop me from wanting to have sex with a literal star?
Yuzu is a 10/10 waifu because she has all the ideal traits of a woman
>stupid
>bitch
>big breasts
b***h ? where
Finished 1 and 2 and I'm a bit burned out on dungeon crawling, which SMT do I play next? Nocturne, Strange Journey, DDS?
>burned out on dungeon crawling
Certainly not SJ then.
DDS is kinda easier than Nocturne (relatively speaking) so I’d say probably that, it’s definitely an underrated gem even among hardcore smt fans.
On a side note tho I’m curious what alignment routes people here go for, I always go for Chaos.
>On a side note tho I’m curious what alignment routes people here go for, I always go for Chaos.
DeSu1 is one of the rare cases where most routes are pretty good and make a lot of sense.
tbh handles alignments way better than mainline SMT.
Nothing past SJ is real mainline SMT.
Truth.
Also
> let's return everything to normal
may sound boring, but it's still portrayed in a pretty cool way with that song magic and with Haru being cute.
not a high bar but yes
I swear they are related
You mean other than the same artist?
>use a reflect spell to reflect Kudlak’s stone spell at him
>he accidentally stones himself in the process
>stand back and proceed to watch Mari beat his ass to death
I love the amount of bullshit you can pull in these games
>get to Jezebel fight
>equip the Fire Drain skill
>proceed to absorb the lava on the ground to restore my own HP and no-sell Jezebel’s fire attacks
>you can just use the Flight, Chaos Wave, or Teleportation racial skills to bypass Belberith’s bridges and attack him anyway without needing to activate the terminals
>DeSu2
>Fighting Keita
>Got Phys Repel on
>He tosses a power hit at me
>Bounces off and proceeds to beat the shit out of himself
Tactica can be regarded as good than tbh if it had more mechanics that involve positioning and other SRPG mechanics(tbh was kinda weak in that regard) instead of just being a Demon-raising game with tactical combat . So far from the trailer it had potential.
Choose
Fumi
I honestly love about every Girl presented but Fumi's willingness to beat a demon with a laptop and strip you in front of others makes me love her more
Airi's design is the hottest.
I haven't played tbh2, but I like bottom left. How prominent is she in the story?
>When you want to spend some quality time with your laptop GF but that one box tan girl also wants your dick but is too shy to admit it
One of the first games I downloaded onto my Acecard 2i back in the day; I had never heard of SMT and only got it because I liked the cover art and it reminded me of TWEWY.
Good times. Nearly 15 years later and this song still lives rent free in my head:
>this song still lives rent free in my head
Why do you talk like a teenage girl?
Homosexual blasphemous sex with your brother.
>tbh thread in current year reaching this many replies
Ganker can be alright sometimes.
Amane is best girl but Yoohoo's fat Yoohoos are in a class of their own
true
The problem with this game is every girl has massive boobs
