I haven't played the remake. The core gameplay of it is great, monsters look cool, the ship is great, great aesthetic, but it's repetitive as hell. It's easy so no weapon variety is required, then it makes you effectively repeat the already repetitive game at the half way point. It was kind of a nice try but I was glad it was over and never wanted to play again.

Laser cutter on Impossible Mode felt great. Best way to play the game, the regular arsenal trivializes the game.
The original game is dogshit too, zoomer.
Atmosphere is identical to the OG, so are the levels, room by room recreations with only a handfull of new hallways and room used for sidequests and loot.
Also the fact that you can revist any deck you unlocked to go back for those LVL2 and LVL3 secutity doors like a metroidvania makes the game much better than the OG.

Regardless, I was surprised by how much fun I had playing it, it ranks on the higher end of the 'crashgrab-or-perfect remake' scale

Remake was great, especially the randomly spawning necros if you hang out in areas too much.
Also sometimes the AI director decided: here's 5 necros since you're backtracking for sidequests and have a bit too much ammo, frick you.

I personally believe it would’ve been more fun if it was survival horror with resources management and puzzles to solve like RE.
The OG had different gameplay alterations on Impossible mode with Necros only dropping money and never ammo/medpacks.
I wish RE had a mode like this instead of Impossible being hard + permadeath.

2023 was a fantastic year for games, but it was rather funny how 3 really done remakes with RE4, Dead Space and System shock and out back to back within months of each other.
