this game is actually decent

this game is actually decent
it's not top tier but it's not bad either, it also has some solid level design every now and then
why do people hate it again? is it because of the stigma surrounding the NSMB series?

All the NSMB games are good and I'm tired of pretending they're not. If Fromsoft can make the same game 8 times and get away with it, Nintendo can do the same 4 times and get away with it

        yes it is

        >Dark Souls 2 of NSMB
that comparison is not doing the game any favors

if from can have a dark souls 2 then so can nintendo

The first NSMB is one of the most kino ones for having the most original bosses. Wii was decent in context because at the time it was novel to have the koopalings back and good graphics, but since then it got surpassed on almost every metric by U. 2 is decent and the coin collecting madness is a fun gimmick but it's not revolutionary in any way, more or less the Dark Souls 2 of NSMB

They all are, but Nintendo makes a disservice by giving them this bland and generic artstyle, all they had to do was not make all the games look and sound the same and no one would hate the New series

All from games look and sound the same not an argument

What? I'm not defending soulsborne shit, I actually hate how overhyped they are, there was people calling Elden Ring the best game ever made as soon as it was announced, I'm just saying that if you look up what people say about NSMB the praise for the level design is almost unanimous, but every one also complains about the generic look they have, it really would not be hard to just change the artstyle a little and no one would've ever complained

And so too does everyone complain about the gameplay always being the same in from games and at least 5 of them being generic fantasy shit aesthetics

It was better than NSMB2, but putting out 2 NSMB games within months of each other and trying to use one to sell a new system at launch were both stupid ideas. In a vacuum it's probably the second-best NSMB entry overall.

Luigi U is in the top 3 2d Mario games
Short and to the point while having unique level ideas and being more difficult than the base game

DS was the best because it had original bosses and the blue shell which is one of marios best powerups

I really feel my biggest problem with the 2-D Mario games is, for the most part, if feels like they've just been shitty remixes of SMB3 ever since World dropped, and every time they do it, it's a little less fun.

    >grass world > desert world >water world
    >couple of new powerups
    >fight the koopalings
    >overworld map with branching paths and minigames
    >bowser as the main villain

I really wish they stuck to every 2-D sidescrolling Mario game being radically different than the last, because SMBW has always just felt like a rehash while the games preceding Super Mario Bros 3 were each radically different games.

      >while the games preceding Super Mario Bros 3
lol, SMB and SMB2 were even more generic, you had a limited amount of themes and you fought Bowser in each castle.
No, the other SMB2 doesn't count.

The other Super Mario Bros 2 absolutely counts. I don't see anyone else ever talk about "The Lost Levels" as a genuine sequel, and even Nintendo themselves seem to prefer to think of it as such. Plus Doki-Doki Panic was actually intended to be a Mario game right out the gates before they retooled it in the first place.

SMB1 is about as inoffensive as Pac Man. If you b***h about it, well, kinda like screaming at a cloud. It's a "granny game" that doesn't do anything wrong and stands on its own when compared to 3

3 is a big game, something you'd plan your evening around
1 is a game you idly play before the bus
not everything needs to be compared ffs go make charts on Reddit
