It's still the best TH game.
Also not /vr/ but Tony confirmed that a remaster of THPS3+4 was in the works but got cancelled because of the Vicarious Visions acquisition by Blizzard
WoW classic was so hilarious to me... >blizzard didn't want to make it initially because you couldn't monetize it. >decide to release it after serious fan demand and mounting IRL controversies. >all the people who remember vanilla WoW as this super hardcore MMO realize how piss easy it was when they finally play it again. >blizzard adds a cash shop to WoW classic which pisses players off. >WotLK classic is already changing stuff from the original.
...i'm willing to bet real money that they aren't gonna stop at adding wrath. we're totally going to see the other expansions get added in to classic and WoW players can see the decline of their favorite game all over again.
>"cash shop" >literally just one pet and one mount
keep seething homosexual
>already changing stuff from the original
yeah, it's almost like releasing a 15 year old game with no changes is a recipe for disaster, as we saw with classic-vanilla
>"literally just one pet and one mount" >ignoring level boosts >ignoring the fact that one mount & pet was enough to remove a spit emote.

>it's almost like releasing a 15 year old game with no changes is a recipe for disaster, as we saw with classic-vanilla
so i guess their "#nochanges" promises was bullshit.
WoW classic was great if you never played it back in the day, but had friends to play with who did.
Grognards and manchildren ruined it of course, as you said.
THPS 3+4 was basically a given as either a standalone game or DLC. they already had the foundation for it with THPS 1+2 as that had reverts & spine transfers along with most of a the basic flatland tricks from 3 & 4.
i was hoping that it would've inevitably led to a THUG 1+2 either way.

That's gotta be like 10 -12 seconds of dialogue, and another 10 seconds of guitar riffs and drum samples. There's something about N64 music that I enjoy. Would Nintendo/ Activision ever need to worry about the licensed music if they put these on the Switch?
It was unusual. When THPS3 came out on N64 (August 2002), it retailed for $50 at Circuit City. By that point in time, the PS1 version was almost a year old and had sold enough to become a Greatest Hits game. You could buy it new for $20, and it had a lot more content.
I remember walking into an EBGames back then and seeing a cardboard advertisement for the N64 version of THPS3 saying something like "N64 owners, we didn't forget you!" I remember thinking "they're seriously going to bother releasing an N64 version?"
I had an N64 back then and it caught my eye, but it was too expensive. I had 2 and 3 for PS1, but the first time I played THPS1 was on N64 and I thought it was great. I never played the other N64 games on real hardware, only years later and through emulation.

Holy shit, I didn't realize it had come out THAT late. Either someone at Activision REALLY liked the N64, or they hit a major snag in development somewhere but were pretty far along and decided to just stick with it and see if they could recoup at least some of their investment.
Actually, maybe this was just par for the course. The N64 version of THPS2 also came out nearly a year after the PS1 version, with THPS3 just around the corner.
Gamecube layout is TERRIBLE for tony hawk(tiny and oddly placed d-pad, weirdass face button layout, its harder to quickly spam tricks, and then pressing B+X or Y is overly complicated wheres its easy on ps2/xbox controller), and both cube and xbox maps spin and spine transfer&revert to same button(L and R), so you can accidentally frick your combo if you press it too early, which never happens on ps2 since spins are dedicated to L1 and R1 and revert and spine transfer is on L2 or R2.
Also because lack of buttons, you need to press down R + Z to lock camera, and there is no way to quickly change fov/camera zoom, on ps2 there are done by R3(lock camera) and select(change zoom).
whats the difference with controles? I used a Wii U Pro controller when I played THUG on my Wii.
IIRC they changed some the mechanics because of the different controller layouts. It's pretty minor stuff
All the PC versions of the Tony Hawk games are the best, but they're crappy early 2000s ports and I could never get a controller to work with them no matter what I tried. There's that THUGPro mod that everyone talks about but I never checked
I've just completed all goals and got all decks as bam on the ps2 one, fricking great game. I'm going back in as darth maul next. Not being able to do flatland tricks like the later games means if you get a really high score you definitely earned it
Deffo forgotten on the 64. Soundtrack was crucial to the whole vibe of the game it really was a PS2 staple. Also pretty sure THPS2 was released at the height of the extreme sports craze and everything else drew less and less.
1 laid the groundwork (arcade style skateboarding with unique goals for each level)
2 built upon it greatly (adding the manual to greatly extend combos and a lot more goals/content)
3 perfected the original model (adding the revert to extend combos even more, 60 fps performance)
4 deviated from the original model by breaking away from the arcade pacing, playing more like free skate did in the original trilogy but with time-limited goals placed at random locations in the stage.
THUG1 introduced getting off the skateboard as a mechanic.
THUG2 introduced sticker slaps and "Classic Mode" as a feature to mirror the original trilogy.
THAW is fairly similar to THUG2 if memory serves me right
Scoring 1 million points within the time limit was very difficult in the first 2 games. With 3 and the revert, it was doable with some practice. By THUG2, there were so many layers to extend combos that getting 1 million points was easy.
the physics got more arcadey, too- higher ollies, faster tricks (and a dedicated flip trick speed stat), faster animations, etc. you are not pulling off double/triple tap flip tricks with every ollie in 3 like you can in the later games, they just don't come out fast enough.
>THUG2 introduced sticker slaps
You could do these in THUG but they were called something else and there was less emphasis on them in the levels. Wall plants maybe.
I've been playing THUG and THPS4 this week, but THPS3 is the greatest Tony Hawk game. Possibly the greatest video game. It's perfect, and I've beaten it with every skater including my own.
It's still the best TH game.
Also not /vr/ but Tony confirmed that a remaster of THPS3+4 was in the works but got cancelled because of the Vicarious Visions acquisition by Blizzard

That sucks.
Blizzard once asked fans to stop requesting classic WoW because they would never make it again and to just enjoy their current product.

It hurts.

But this thread is about 3 not 4
Based
Tony hawk 4 is better in every way but the levels
Off to hang myself then
acknowledged
Make sure you revert to manual when you land to combo it
Why is it n gage Tony hawk out performs N64 Tony Hawk by a large margin?

Why would anybody have played the N64 version of this?
>all other console versions: Pre-Rendered opening cutscenes
>N64 version: Real-time cutscene
I'm surprised anyone did. It was literally the last officially released N64 game.
It was unusual. When THPS3 came out on N64 (August 2002), it retailed for $50 at Circuit City. By that point in time, the PS1 version was almost a year old and had sold enough to become a Greatest Hits game. You could buy it new for $20, and it had a lot more content.

THPS3 was the reason I got a gamecube
1 2 and 3 are great games you can pick up for cheap

What content was missing from the n64 version? Just skaters or whole levels?
The soundtrack got cut way down and FMV cutscenes (opening and endgame skater cutscenes) were taken out.
AND DONT FORGET THE JOKER
best tony hawk game, ps2 version though
2X is the best game
What's the better version between GC and PS2?
PS2 is the real deal. Controls are a bit different on GC and XBOX.
PS2 > PC > XBOX > GC
whats the difference with controles? I used a Wii U Pro controller when I played THUG on my Wii.

pro skater 3 sucks on PC because the shadows don't have transparency
I got a DS3 to work w/ the original PC version of THPS3 on Win10 with AntiMicro. It was a bit of a hassle to setup but it works fine.
I've just completed all goals and got all decks as bam on the ps2 one, fricking great game. I'm going back in as darth maul next. Not being able to do flatland tricks like the later games means if you get a really high score you definitely earned it
The revert was the most significant addition of all
Agreed, took these games to another level. I'm supposed to playing through the whole series but I love 3 so much I'm not ready to move on yet!

Mate it's all the kids make memes about.
>Has it been forgotten?
I think the skateboarding fad died out in the mid 2000s, both irl and in videogames.
the first one i played was 4 what makes 3 stand out as the best one?
1 laid the groundwork (arcade style skateboarding with unique goals for each level)
2 built upon it greatly (adding the manual to greatly extend combos and a lot more goals/content)

Yeah, wallplants. THAW even has a "joke" about how it has both wallplants AND sticker slaps (one on X, one on down+X).
3 was just 2 with vertical maps
was actually just playing this a couple times this week on an everdrive 64. had it on ps2 when it came out, its weird playing it on previous gen
that version yes
Tony who?
I've been playing THUG and THPS4 this week, but THPS3 is the greatest Tony Hawk game. Possibly the greatest video game. It's perfect, and I've beaten it with every skater including my own.
for me its 4 on ps2
