This game is great and I'm sick of pretending its not. The boss fights are way too kino for it to be so hated. The pacing and sidequests are not great, but the world building and characters more than make up for it.

It's All Fucked Shirt $22.14 |
It's could've been great, but they didn't commit to whether it'd be a full action game or a full rpg. It's actually this weird in between that doesn't even function well as an ARPG, which generally does a much better job merging ideas.
Its not an rpg at all
>Its not an rpg at all
It shouldn't be, but it partially is, even if a poor one.
The tiniest of number upgrades by "crafting", accessories that only slightly alter numbers (with only a few exceptions)... the barest bones of RPG stuff to try to connect it to being an RPG.
It needed to either drop all of that and go full action game, or go back to ARPG with a full party.
if they really wanted to do the "personal story" thing and all (which wasn't justified, in retrospect) they should've just made Vagrant Story lite without the pause skillcast. I still maintain that it would be an awesome game, and I think if they plan on doing the singular playable character with AI party members schtick again they should 100% do it that way. they could even bring to life the really experimental co-op/AI system they drafted for VS, in that case, which would be equally as cool.
>world building and characters
>world building explained entirely through the one good idea in the entire game (cutscene lore-book button) that is immediately over-relied on to tell the bloated, over-compressed trope of a story
>characters are all flavorless cardboard cutouts
ah, yes, the two worst things about the entire game make up for the awful pacing and MMO sidequests
What's wrong with the characters? I thought Cid was really cool. I also liked Benedikta, Kupka, and Barnabas as villains. Even the minor characters like Gav, Byron, Sir Wade, Blackthorne ETC. were good.
I see lots of people complaining about the story and characters being convoluted. I can't tell if it's because they're ADHD-riddled zoomers, or people that didn't bother using Active Time Lore/The Thousand Tomes.
Anyone that says XVI's characters are bland is a disingenuous homosexual. The game does have its problems, but these characters are easily the series' most memorable since FFX.
>disingenuous
go watch more twitch homosexual
you can play the entire game without opening the lore menu wtf are you talking about
I agree with you anon. I enjoyed it way mote than BG3
Game is complete dogshit. Get some standards.
>This game is great and I'm sick of pretending
Obviously not.
Its a very bad video game. And the fighting is graphical diarrhea with numbers everywhere.
I think a lot of people dunk on it because of how wienery Yoshi-P was during the promo tour, and then promptly got humiliated by BG3 which only made him look even more foolish.
It has gay sex, perfect game for Squaretrannies
Are you gay too? Is that why you have this saved?
it really isn't, gameplay sucks side quests suck, story sucks musy sucks
everything about this shit sucks

>epic western movie soundtrack
Eh.
noctis is stronger
meh. i really love game OSTs and FF16s is just generic and boring le epic music without any new sounds to it. even 15 year old two steps from hell music is still better to listen to than this game's OST.
>generic and boring
yes, an epic hybrid track remains generic.
>remains generic
>AIjrpgforestmusic dot mp4
>anon is soulless
>AIsoullessgenericJrpgtown dot mp4
nothing special either. seconding
the beginning of this track is so nice and sweet, fits a walk in a beautiful great peaceful forest. and then the music picking up in 1:38 ruins the mood entirely.
i skimmed the OST after its full release for some new songs and found nothing to my liking. hearing it again now just frustrates me. why couldn't they have hired yoko shimomura again?
Because it isn't just a walk in a beautiful peaceful forest, that crests a hill overlooking massive overgrown ruins.
It's the beginnings of an adventure that you don't know the scope of yet.
It's 4 homies in a line kino.
where did it all go so wrong with final fantasy music? couldn't they find someone who could write in uematsu's style?
Damn, the music really went downhill
You’re not allowed that deviant opinion around these parts, get with the programme and gargle some Palworld transexual penis instead.
Last god-tier final fantasy was X.
deal with it. If it doesn't have turn-based combat then its shit.
XVI is the best one since X. It would be cool if they went back to turn based at some point, but I doubt they will.
xv mogs xvi in every aspect
>boyband road trip
>medieval kaiju adventure
I'll take the latter
>unique rpg setup
>generic nothing that is in service to nothing and has worse kaiju than the roadtrip game
>generic nothing that is in service to nothing
What the frick are you even saying? my comparison was at least coherent
>kaiju shit has nothing to do with anything and doesn't make ff16 unique especially when 15 has kaiju already and better done kaiju at that on top of delivering an actual impactful roadtrip story where the 4 guys feel more like brothers than the actual 2 brothers in ff16 that are the fricking logo of the game
>kaiju shit has nothing to do with anything
It has to do with the literal plot of the game. Did you even play it?
>So what's your idea for the 15th?
>>We propose a roadtrip RPG centered on a group of friends who are part of a royal circle
>Interesting, so you're interpreting the usual FF journey as a roadtrip this time, anything else?
>>Yeah, we'll have dungeons and outposts and cities and freedom of exploration, on top of that it is in the backdrop of a world where the summons are gods, giant kaiju like beings whom our prince protagonist must obtain the favor of in order to summon them. You'll journey around the world through car, forging your bonds with the party, doing various activities and minigames, feel the remnants of the old summon war and history as you journey, we also have a camp system in place with a day/night system where daemons emerge at night. As you progress the nights get longer.
>Interesting and very thematic, anything else?
>>We have a royal weapon system with around 20 unique weapons to use which adds variety to our action based RPG combat, focused on elemental affinities, status effects, buffs/debuffs and integrating party coop moves and party commands into it, and this feeds into the story of our four friends strengthen their brotherhood on a journey with a heavy burden for our protagonist
>Interesting, this sounds like a 10 million seller
>So what's your idea for the 16th?
>>The summons are giant kaiju like beings!
>Why are they giant?
!
>...and? Anything else?
>>Nope!
>Can you at least summon the summons?
>>Nope!
>Is there a party?
>>Nope!
>Can you explore any cities or any dungeons?
>>Nope!
>Ok... is there at least any RPG systems like elemental affinities or buffs/debuffs?
>>Nope! We removed MP and the magic stat!
>So what is the story premise?
>>Our prince protagonist kills his kid brother without knowing he's responsible, and his mother sells him into slavery!
>Oh, an interesting setup, so you have his main conflict being the death of his brother and him overthrowing his mother?
>Nope! The brother somehow lived offscreen!

16 was boring generic white dude and euro fantasy setting number 57892034578902345. It was a terrible boring setting back in the early 2000's
Its even more fricking stupid when compared to the REAL fantasy worlds that we had in the past. Look at 3/6, 9, 10, 12.... hell even 13 and 7 had waaaaay more interesting fantasy worlds
>white dude and euro fantasy
kino
No, that shit is boring. The other Final Fantasy's are better.
But my favorite streamers said the demo was heckin wholesome and 10/10
16 was the most “turn your brain off” game I’ve played in my life. The combat is shallow and the story is yet another kill god plot.
>he didn't play hard mode NG+
They should have made hard mode available from the beginning
its a good 7/10. Wish performance was better on ps5
This is all I'm trying to get at. It's a solid 7/10 game. Anons on here will cream themselves over shit like Dragon's Dogma which is in the same exact tier as this game.
I like it but its a weird game where you have to deliberately handicap yourself to enjoy it if you're even remotely good at games.
Forcing yourself to have no potions, ultimates or 'broken' abilities (by your own definition) make the game more interesting to play.
Its stupid that you have to do it and it makes you wonder why you're even bothering to level up your character and skills when it could potentially ruin the fun.
I really don't know why they didn't add a harder difficulty mode from the start. They added all these ways to make yourself so strong that you really don't need to do too much but they thought action mode would be enough of a challenge?
no its poop and the worst ff
everything that happens after the first timeskip ruins the entire setup
>worst ff
>XIII
>XV
>VIII
all better than 16 and are rpgs
xv is the best ff
it's just ok
just like 15
I thought it was better than XV
in nothing
the only person here who thinks XVI isn't great sucks off Forspoken
the only person who thinks xvi is great is nobody because surely nobody is that moronic
As per usual with PlayStation exclusives, as soon as it hits Steam, people will say it's a good game.
It was shit. I rarely play games I think are shit because I don't seek out games to dislike, but the thing about this that interested me most before release was a let down and in every other way it was extremely dull. The sidequests are the most tedious and lifeless I've seen in any game in I don't know how long, and they force you to go through what feels like a sidequest stuck in the main quest multiple times with things like collecting the ship parts for Mid. It sucks.
>the thing about this that interested me most before release was a let down
Which was?
The combat, which I still think is the best part of it, but it just felt like a lesser DMC5 at the end of the day, which might not have been the worst thing in the world if the rest of the game were good seeing as a good JRPG with DMC-lite combat sounds good to me, but the combat does nothing special that would make me want to return to the game when I could just play DMC5 instead and the things surrounding that combat aren't good enough for the whole thing to come together into something greater than the sum of its parts. I still do think the game deserves credit for its combat, but I was disappointed by it and it did nothing to standout over games with similar combat.
Hi-Fi Rush came out the same year, and though I would say XVI has much more depth to its combat, Hi-Fi Rush was still doing something unique that I wouldn't get from DMC or Bayonetta. XVI did little that was unique from DMC and what it did do that was distinct was just bad, like the cooldowns and stagger system, so I was left with nothing that made me think I'd ever want to play it instead of just playing DMC5 when they could have done something unique with it that gave it its own charm. I think it would be too harsh to say the combat is worthless to me just because DMC5's is better when DMC5 sets a high bar, but the issue is more that DMC5's is both better and so similar. I'm mentioning Hi-Fi Rush because I think that's worse than DMC5's combat too, but it at least provides something different which I can't say for XVI.
It's plainly mediocre, like all modern FF games.
>It's a JRPG that isn't turn-based or ATB while lacking stats, jobs, and weaknesses
>It's an action game with cooldowns, simplistic combos, and without a DMD type mode that pushes players to the limit and offer the "real" experience
>It's a story game that throws out initial intrigue and character development to focus on the usual "kill god" storyline instead of keeping it character focused with deity slaying as the end result instead of the main focus
It just fails to impress on everything it set out to do, unfortunately.
>like all modern FF games
See, this is where you lose me. REmake was great and Rebirth is going to be kino.
Sorry, I meant mainline (13s, 15, 16) specifically. SoP was really good, haven't played FF7R but I generally hear good things despite the wacky plot deviations and split release.
15 is better than any of those
only 13, 14, 16 and 7r are bad modern ff
You really only liked XV? I would pick any of those other games over XV.
15 is object better than them in every single aspect from game design to music to character to villain to graphics to music to rpg system to combat variety to dungeons to exploration to animation to story
Gaylien loving homosexual.
I have a PS5 and I despise that pile of shit game.
FFXVI, Spider-Monkey 2 and TLOU2 are the Sony equivalent of StarFailed and Redfall for Xbox. Final Fantasy 7 Demake & AfterBirth are cringe fan fiction for homosexuals that like Kingdom Hearts.

This game fricking rules and I'm glad it filters so many morons. Always gatekeep the good shit.

it's 720p for like 1% of the game, and only if you play in performance mode.
>it's 720p for like 1% of the game
According to DF, it is in every major battle
>and only if you play in performance mode
We aren't in 2006 anymore, 60fps should be the minimum.
>According to DF, it is in every major battle
nah, only in the busiest of scenes. Not only is it rare, but you will not even notice it because it's only a couple of frames.
>Lying on the internet
I will just wait for the PC release.
I encourage you to do so. I wish I had been gatekept from it so I wouldn't have wasted my time on it, and I hope as few people as possible play it in the future for their own sakes.
>gatekept so hard the game failed
Great idea genius
the game totally failed, that's why it got a small expansion and is getting a bigger expansion this spring.
>Always gatekeep the good shit.
Nobody wants in, so you don't have to gatekeep
It will be REDEEMED when it's on PC.
>Gay shit
>720p
No thanks, will maybe pirate when it comes out for PC.
>add joshua, jill, and the dragoon dude as playable characters
there I've fixed your game
They really should've let you play as the other party members, or at least expand the command shit they had with Torgal to include them as well
Where the frick is the PC version Yoshi you moron
reddit fantasy 16
If they had cut like 90% of the dogshit sidequests and replaced them with other activities the game would be significantly better, they also should've allowed higher difficulty for a first playthrough. The combat is the most I've enjoyed any square action-type game for sure and I liked the story especially earlier on but the game is completely let down by how it's literally just cutscenes and combat, feels incredibly barebones even compared to dogshit like FF15 where the combat and story was significantly worse but there was at least some life to the world.
The game could have used better accessories and a more intricate combat system.
No one wants 1.3 s CDR for a fricking accessory.
Likewise the gameplay is entirely too simple to make the player use their tools better.
You can play Clive like Nero and charge shots while doing combos, shoot the charged shot to launch and follow up with an air combo, but most enemies will either die before you can finish, be too big and ignore your options, or just be a huge damage sponge where you grow bored and opt for your fastest damage loop to wittle them down.
Good parts:
>The combat is pretty fun and despite being cooldown based, is really satisfying
>Clive is a compelling character and you experience his own story
I expected better part:
>Ost is really good, but not as good as I expected (the best theme for me was the one of the first trailer)
>Story is interesting but the pacing is weird and could have used more development in some places
>Same for the lore, it's really inconsistent
>Too much side quests with too much cutscenes, but there are quite a few that pack a punch
I don't really care parts:
>I went expecting an action game, I don't give a frick if there's no RPG
I bought a PlayStation 5 for this game and I would do it again. I've liked this game ever since it was announced with that first 2020 trailer. Still an imperfect game, 7,5/10
>buying a console for ONE 7.5/10 game
Really? I would considered for three 8/10 exclusive games, but for one no way.
I mean, I didn't have a PS4, so I didn't play quite a few of its exclusives, so that was a bonus. I also played Spiderman 2 (which was way more disappointing than FFXVI). I'm also playing Demon Souls, Bloodborne (again), The Last Guardian and I have Gravity Rush 2 and Detroit on the backlog. Also waiting for GoW Ragnarok to be 15€ or something.
The problem is that it says frick you to everyone who appreciates great boss fights by making them all completely braindead easy.
I had a ton of fun with the game, but I had to use the starting sword and no armor the entire game and it was still a bit too easy. And the overwhelming majority of people are too stupid to curate their enjoyment like that, they will just use the best equipment and snooze through the game.
Haven’t played it but this song is cool https://youtu.be/7L_6atLQouc?si=wv8OhiMRDZd1iE3t
I love it. Just wish there was a bit more exploration. All of the areas seem pretty barren wish they added a bit more life.
>images you never get to post
I had a good time with it.
Any news on DLC/expansions?
>DLC
I think that came out a while ago
spring 2024, probably anywhere between april/june, and PC version will likely release around that time too with all dlcs
XV > XVI
I just want a sense of adventure. FF16 did not give me that.
>game up until you know whos death
9/10 and would be a 10/10 but the game slows down quite a bit after garuda iirc
>game up until bahamut
8/10, pacing gets even worse but the build up to titan was amazing, bahamut was kind of abrupt but the fight was so goddamn good it didnt bother me
>everything after
5/10, ultima is such a lame fricking villain. i remember the theories people had of there being 2 ifrits or some shit but in reality it was fricking nothing. also i know its nice and all that joshua is still alive but he really shouldve stayed dead after the prologue or at the very least they shouldn't have blatantly showed he was alive like a few hours into the game.
overall it was okay, wouldve been better if the sidequests werent so fricking bad and honestly it makes me worried for ff7rebirth, why is se so bad at making interesting sidequests?
Agreed on Ultima. I also was a little let down by Joshua surviving. The whole tragedy of Clive's character was lessened by Joshua being alive.
Go and say to my face this trailer doesn't give you goosebumps. This game with a little more supervision, less hours and quite a few tweaks could have been a masterpiece.
?si=cAm_6YllsevSpgRU
This is the one that really got me excited about the game, unfortunate how it ended up.
I didn't have to open it to know it was the violin
Is it worth the price bros I’m thinking of getting it
If you've already got a PS5 I'd recommend it. It's fun but not without it's flaws
Play the demo
if you like DMC then you'll like this because it's basically that but with light RPG elements and production values out the ass
The Bahamut boss fight is the greatest boss I've ever played in my 33 years on this Earth/30 years playing games. It easily mogs Sword Saint.
I finished Final Fantasy XV today. I loved it, but the game was too easy. Maybe I'll buy Final Fantasy XVI or wait for rebirth.
Someone asked for hebe Jilll pantsu weeks ago and I think I found it.
i like their attention to detail
i can imagine some weeb modeler who was blessed to work on her going "NO FOR FRICK'S SAKE IT'S NOT READY YET" when yoshida was telling him to hurry the frick up and go work on monster #67
It will be loved here once it's released on pc, keep up with how vee works
>keep up with how vee works
right back at ya, that shit only happened with the "NEVER EVER" games
this shit was confirmed for PC the day it was announced
It was fun. I still don't like how square locks the real difficulty behind beating the game twice. I like messing around with enemy step tho https://youtu.be/d_L3w6KfLBY?si=WQX_u7m-zbM9JjWJ https://youtu.be/bPNqoPLGt2c?si=h8pLkGSCpRHt71xx
I watched bizkits hour long video on it. he says it's good, so it's good. anyone saying otherwise can be brushed off as not knowing a god damn thing.
totalbizkits?
No, Limp.
I wish it was more RPG like having Clive collect dominants into his party and they all have different combos like in Genshin why is it so hard?
Its better than the crap that was Final Fantasy XV which was solely made for the fujo audience.
kek FF verses 13 and 15 were advertised as some epic Romeo and Juliet love story between two rivaling families and what were got was Fujo's road trip with the boys.
no it wasn't
nope and 16 is literally for the fujos
>nope and 16 is literally for the fujos
>chad clive impregnating his girl on the beach vs virgin noctis kissing his girl in some afterlife cuckshed
frick outta here
no one ever went "what the frick is that!?" when seeing Ifrit so i assume he's documented as an Eikon of fire
It started off really cool but jumped the shark directly after the Garuda fight in basically every respect.
I did quite like it. Never finished it, stopped after Odin due to irl circumstances and kept just putting it off waiting for DLC.
The sidequests were never my biggest gripe, but the average difficulty of the game. Heard the first DLC was a better in that regard, which is good, but I'd like the base game itself to be adequately challenging.
Who is your favorite Eikon?
I think Odin is the coolest
I think Garuda is really cool, but Barnabas is the coolest Dominant
Garuda is SEX
Shame she died so early
>that tongue swirl
art
They knew what they where doing
I bet in an earlier draft Benedikta was going to be Clive's Love interest but changed because players wouldn't like to romance a literal prostitute. Joshua and Jill were plot B where Jill took Jote's role. I'm even more convinced, after seeing the book where Clive and Benedikta are the same age.
>Clive and Cid capture Benedikta
>Benedikta shows Clive and Cid the mother crystal
>Cid dies and Benedikta feels indebted to her "father figure" so she helps Clive
>Hugo gets pissed and hunts Clive down for taking his girl.
>Benedickta fricked with Cid
>Benedickta fricked with Barnabas >Benedickta fricked with Hugo
Garuda was the cum dumpster of the eikons lel
Benedikta was 28 by the time of the game.
Cid was 44
Cid must have found her when she was 12-14. Cidbros wtf...
RAMUH'D
>When she was fifteen, her master almost killed her after wrongly accusing her of theft, but Benedikta awoke as the Dominant of Garuda and fled. Attacked by bandits, she was rescued by Cidolfus Telamon
31-year-old Cid fricked a 15-year-old Benedikta... AYO!
>Cid is a fellow dickyGOD
>Dominants of Ramuh are seekers of wisdom
>Seeking dicky is a sign of true wisdom
Just how based is Cid?
>I bet in an earlier draft Benedikta was going to be Clive's Love interest
Nah, there may've been a triangle of sorts planned but even the very early artwork features Jill, + childhood friend trope is too easy. I just think her plotline(s) were cut down which makes her feel tacked on and incomplete.
Ifrit and Shiva are a classic paring tho can't really complain
I mean it kinda makes sense. Jote was a nothing character though if they originally had Jill in that role.
Joshua should have gotten with Mid
Change my Mind
Mid was into older guys due to her daddy issues. She sucked of uncle Byron to get funding for her ship.
>Cid groomed Benedickta
>Byron grooms Mid
*hits pipe*
nice headcanon but you're fricking crazy if you think that at any point in the production of a Final Fantasy game, a numbered one at that, they threw around the idea of having a heroine who was raped and was a bawd for two main villains and your mentor
it's likely Jote was cut much like Lunafreya. my impression was that she and Joshua would share a tragic love but they pulled the plug on it along with the third act
and say what you want about Jill's development but her and Clive's setup scenes at the beginning are great and some of the best in the game, they don't feel like an afterthought post-rewrite
I mean if they were going for an ultra gritty and mature game. Someone as fricked up as Clive who has mommy issues would have fit well with a child sex slave who has daddy issues. Two broken people come together. Although I liked Jill as well but she was kind of vanilla. kek they made sure to include that the barbarians never raped her so she wouldn't be used goods.
is Ifrit even considered an Eikon or just Ultima's race? that shit never made sense to me.
I liked that Odin is a eikon than comes with the ability to make your imaginary best friend real, and ride him into battle
you don’t get to see him all that much in the game, but i really liked ramuh. something about a big ass wizard. odin and shiva are up there for me in terms of design as well
>enjoy the fantasy of melee combat in my rpgs.
>in ff16 your melee swings are all dogshit toothpick attacks and you spam the color wheel the whole time.
>There's no RPG progression. you can literally use starter gear and beat the game damn near the same if you had end game gear on.
Glad ff14 dying off so Yoshit Piss never gets his hands on a main series title again. Almost as deplorable as Nomura and the ff7r team.
It is, but Rebirthtrannies needs to crush all "competition" now so that their dating simulator can take as much spotlight as possible. I tried for a comfy XVI thread the other day and it got 300 posts about insane FF7 waifu shite no one asked for.
I can't fricking stand the culture that's been built around these games.
Anon, you're not going to force a "rivalry" between FF7R and FF16. Anyone who enjoyed 16 is going to like 7R (not always the reverse), it's solely shitposters attempting to push that.
>rivalry
This is shit you've made up in your head. No one is asking for a rivalry. XVI should still be a big deal, but it isn't and a good chunk of the reason for that is because of 7R.
If you want to try that angle now, whatever. Not like you haven't been trying this shit for months now at this point.
Still not gonna work.
how many copies have the game sold so far? literally zero information. I just want a honest estimate and not from barry or haters.

Having one combo string for you basic melee sucked. We don't even get the standard delayed-attack-string.
