5 is effectively separate from 1 - 4 outside of the opening where Sakura says 'lawl, you have to go to NYC, Ogami's cousin'. The Movie isn't canon to to the game and the stage shows take place post-events of 5 if the NYC girls are present.
>MC spends half of the sequel anime crossdressing and most of his shipbait is with the male main villain
Good on Sega for nailing the feel of a modern American setting 15-something years ago.
I saw a Japanese on Twitter say this the other day. About how in Japan they apologize even if they did nothing wrong and other cultures where if you apologize you lose so you must never apologize even if you did something wrong.
If it did, then that means all the zoomers would have called it a Fire Emblem ripoff and do even worse.
Not like the tactical combat was anything to write home about in the first place.
1 and 2 were pretty basic, but I really liked the changes 3 made. I'm glade they kept with that system through the rest of the series. Well minus shin.

Damn, this sounds great.
Is the reboot any good? Or should I start with the original games?
Shin? It's okay, I guess? The cast was decent all around, but I think the dramatic shift to an action game turned of some old fans. I don't remember too much of the story, but it does some weird things with the setting which felt out of character.
I really have to get back to these games. I was supposed to know Japanese by nooooow I don't want to play the second game with a translation guide again
I'd suggest playing 2 especially if you want to play 4. 4 is a pretty poor game and the story is even more nonsensical than the others. It was by all accounts a rush job. The only redeeming feature is that it brings the full cast together.
How bad was 3 with guide? I didn't get far in 2 but i kept coming across quite a bit of missing dialogue in just the first couple chapters alone. And of course if you didn't choose Sakura at the beginning of the game then I guess you're sol

i used this one https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/dreamcast/577288-sakura-taisen-3/faqs/57519
it was painful as with most guides, just wait for the patch bro
It's a genuine pitty 5 was the only one to get an English release. It easily has the worst cast of all of the whole series, and I'm including the shit gacha on that list.
i love erica and glycine but what other girls are there? lobelia is a prostitute and hanabi and kokoriko are mogged by better versions in subaru and rikaritta in 5
the cast never really came together to me because of it
I liked lobelia even if she was a b***h. She's a different enough from the rest of the cast and anime trope characters in general that it make her stand out. Although, I can completely understand why she isn't popular. Otherwise I would agree that hanabi is just boring and, personally, I never liked any of the e-girls.
the original games are all wonderful but you're playing them for the characters and the writing, not the gameplay. They're not for everyone but if it IS for you then it'll grow on you like a tumor and ruin your life. It doesn't help every major entry has like at least a few spin-offs, stage shows and supplementary material for you to stay hooked into the setting and characters.
the reboot is probably best enjoyed without playing the original batch because then you'll just get angry at what they did to the original setting and cast.
>Brown biker tomboy lawyer theater actor
Her route and relationship with the MC was surprisingly pretty cute. Reminded me a little bit of Black Lagoon in a since of Japanese guy meeting an forceful American girl, except the girl is not half Chinese and carrying guns.
This is true, however. Some guys in academia created some fictitious scenarios to see if the opinions of people (conservatives, liberals, men, women) would change if someone apologized after doing something considered wrong by liberals and conservatives alike.
For conservatives and men, it makes no difference to apologize, their opinion is based on what the guy basically said, and everything that follows is unimportant, including the apology.
For liberals and women, apologizing makes the guy look worse. Probably because for them, the apology feels like an admission of guilt.
So at the end of the day, if you do something that is considered controversial, never apologize because either it won't do you any good (if you've offended men and conservatives), or it will worsen your image (if you've offended women and liberals).
God, why was Sega so stupid to not translate Sakura Wars 1-4 and release them in HD platforms? Would have been the perfect time to do it right before Shin Sakura Wars.
I also want the DC cross save compatability. My Japanese friend did it, and it was cool seeing the girls you waifu'd per game reflecting on your time together.
He still fricks your anime girlfriend though.
>he

You lost.
Is that Sakura Wars? I still only finished the first one I'm not allowed to play the others yet.
You can play SW5. It's the only one that came out officially in english and it has pretty much nothing to do with the previous games.
5 is effectively separate from 1 - 4 outside of the opening where Sakura says 'lawl, you have to go to NYC, Ogami's cousin'. The Movie isn't canon to to the game and the stage shows take place post-events of 5 if the NYC girls are present.
Just wait till you get to the chapter where they need to kill the birds
damn right
Sex with Rosita.
>that date with Subaru
Something about her particular style of teasing made my pp massive.
>you wan fuk android 17? have at it
>MC spends half of the sequel anime crossdressing and most of his shipbait is with the male main villain
Good on Sega for nailing the feel of a modern American setting 15-something years ago.
>mfw "I LOVE SOUL FOOD"
I genuinely really love this game.
Wait until you get to the suicidal girl's chapter.
>every female character has some serious psychological issue
>Wait until you get to the suicidal girl's chapter.
who is that? i beat the game last year
Diana. She has soap opera cancer and she's fine with dying until Shinjiro convinces her to go ahead with the dangerous operation.
ohh yeah that was my least favorite chapter so i blotted it out of my memory lmao
rikaritta was my favorite and i got her route
I saw a Japanese on Twitter say this the other day. About how in Japan they apologize even if they did nothing wrong and other cultures where if you apologize you lose so you must never apologize even if you did something wrong.
I 100%'d the reboot. It was not a good game at all. but I liked the new cast and would've been happy with a better sequel had it not flopped.
We'll see if there's a game for 2026 since Sega typically loves to do anniversary titles.
it is a good game, it just should have kept the 2D cutscenes and turn based combat
If it did, then that means all the zoomers would have called it a Fire Emblem ripoff and do even worse.
Not like the tactical combat was anything to write home about in the first place.
the combat was my favorite part of the original pentalogy
1 and 2 were pretty basic, but I really liked the changes 3 made. I'm glade they kept with that system through the rest of the series. Well minus shin.

Will we ever see them again?
Gemini was in SRW 30 DLC, at least.
>baseball combo love attack
10/10
I really have to get back to these games. I was supposed to know Japanese by nooooow I don't want to play the second game with a translation guide again
i love sakura taisen 2 so much bros
I don't even like this game that much but this song tickles my nostalgia bone really hard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNLSXdLm3Uw
so Gemini Sunrise is by far best girl right?
Gemini has freckles, so that alone makes her best girl. Everything else about her is just a big bonus.
3 > V > 6 > 1
of the ones ive played
Why'd you skip 2
i dont care for it, i wanted to get to france already
actually i still want to play 4 as well at some point
I'd suggest playing 2 especially if you want to play 4. 4 is a pretty poor game and the story is even more nonsensical than the others. It was by all accounts a rush job. The only redeeming feature is that it brings the full cast together.
for 2 im waiting on the translation, but even then i want to do a replay of 3 without a guide once its translation comes out first
How bad was 3 with guide? I didn't get far in 2 but i kept coming across quite a bit of missing dialogue in just the first couple chapters alone. And of course if you didn't choose Sakura at the beginning of the game then I guess you're sol

to be honest i love 5 even though the cast is weak, id say 3's cast was honestly weaker
Really, and why is that? Honest question because I, for the most part, liked 3's cast.
i love erica and glycine but what other girls are there? lobelia is a prostitute and hanabi and kokoriko are mogged by better versions in subaru and rikaritta in 5

why did the birds do it?
