(nta) it's fun but when viewed as what was advertised as a "spiritual successor" to F.E.A.R., it's mediocre and doesn't surpass it in any way other than graphics and maybe level variety. sorta. barely.
What exactly was it suppose to be a succesor of? FEAR's only unique quality was the time slow and that it was one of the early fps games. They both have very mid horror and story but trepang's gameplay is way more fun. Go replay FEAR again and tell me it isnt a slog in comparison.
AI was trash. They just tricked you. All smoke and mirrors.

and yet no shooter in the last 18years made enemies even close as smart as them, curious

And yet i killed them as easily as any other game's enemies on hard. The tanky robots were the only difficult enemies. What makes them so "smart"? Throwing grenades and occasionaly rushing you?

who fricking cares how they did it? they're still fun to fight.
>it was one of the early full 3d fps games
what? it came out in 2005. it isn't that early. there's 10 years of 3D FPS' before it, zoomer. >Go replay FEAR again and tell me it isnt a slog in comparison.
sure, no problem. it isn't a slog in comparison, see picrel (hours are low-ish because I still have my physical box copy).
F.E.A.R.'s combat/gunplay is far more satisfying, the AI is far more interesting and replayable to fight against, and the horror bits are good. Trepang2's horror sucked.
I get the feeling you haven't actually played F.E.A.R. or at least for a very long time and just think it's an old game so it must be archaic. it's not.
I played FEAR last year a little before playing trepang2. I didnt get scared a single time, only slightly startled twice at most. (same with trep2)
You clearly arent a big horror fan if FEAR made you shit your pants.
The original resident evil 4 is leages better at both gameplay and horror.

leave it to a zoomer to say RE4, a third person survival horror, has better gameplay than F.E.A.R., a first person shooter.
really good comparison, gay.
the only thing that really bugs me is how the supernatural elements are almost nonexistent (no, mutants made by experiments dont count) except for like one main mission and one side mission and yeah, it barely feels like fear, its like titanfall with slowmo
I laughed so fricking hard when the actual backrooms showed up. It makes sense, blend autistic horror interest and FEAR's industrial hallways and yeah of course they'd be into that.
It's honestly a little too fast, and I say this as someone who defends autistic high speed movement shit all the time. I feel like the military badass fighting paranormal threats should be a bit weightier. Not clumsy or even grounded, just not quake-tier invincible dude zooming around
You know you can slow down the game, right? It's a core feature for slow mo. >but it lasts so little
Un slow-mo right before clicking on someones head, silly. It makes it extremely fun since you're constantly bouncing between enemies and using slowmo to calculate your next move.
every shooter nowadays makes you dance like ballerina, for me games like halo and fear are much more fun than doom or titanfall, movement shooters certainly have their place and I enjoy them too, but we got enough of them, it's tiresome and not as fulfilling. more slow paced shooters leave more room for fun tactical thinking and experimentation instead of being based entirely on reaction time, feels way more satisfying
I was pretty hyped after the demo level years ago but man the full game was a complete letdown. Its almost like he only had the idea for the demo and had to jury rig an entire game to go around it. Thats the only way I could see a sane human being making an entire fricking level about the backrooms in their FEAR wannabe
Trepang2 is pretty good, although maybe a bit spastic.
Thinking about what the original plans for F.E.A.R. 2 were before things got stuck in rights limbo makes me sad. Especially with how the F.E.A.R. 2 was straight ass.

It was the combination of neat AI advancements for the time, extremely soulful enemy voice acting, and good level design that make it hold up well. It even takes on a new life of its own if you forgo the slowmo that curves bullets away.

The more subtle or physics-based stuff is pretty good, but I want you to look at that fricking skeleton jumpscare near the beginning or any of the shit with the ghosts at the end and tell me it looks any good whatsoever.
Its more DUUM than FEAR. >enter arena >fight waves of enemies >leave arena >repeat until you defeat the final boss of the level >repeat for 8 levels
Technically is not bad, but its not FEAR.
ye. fricking shills shilled it as FEAR succesor but its not. its fairly mediocre as indie shooter, dusk or cultic shit all over it.
Fairly mediocre?
What do you mean? I played it through to completion and had more fun than with any shooters I've played in the last few years.

Meant to say "early full 3d fps games"
FEAR had great graphics and decent AI at the time of its release. so no, it wasnt just slowmo.
AI was trash. They just tricked you. All smoke and mirrors.

>and that it was one of the early fps games
holy zoomer
It isn't, but I really enjoyed it otherwise.
why is the marketing so cringe
Probably on purpose, cause game is also cringe.
The boss fights suck especially the final one.
>Play as a special operator who can slow down time, dual wield guns and karate bad guys
>Deal with horror elements as well as military threats
I should've taken the hint when the second mission changed from shooting people to a fricking awful zombie section.
That part did suck, but at least it never came back again and it only lasted a few minutes.
A lot I like about it, a lot I don't. I hope the third game knocks it out of the park.
the only thing that really bugs me is how the supernatural elements are almost nonexistent (no, mutants made by experiments dont count) except for like one main mission and one side mission and yeah, it barely feels like fear, its like titanfall with slowmo
>can we have FEAR
>we already have FEAR at home
I laughed so fricking hard when the actual backrooms showed up. It makes sense, blend autistic horror interest and FEAR's industrial hallways and yeah of course they'd be into that.
It's honestly a little too fast, and I say this as someone who defends autistic high speed movement shit all the time. I feel like the military badass fighting paranormal threats should be a bit weightier. Not clumsy or even grounded, just not quake-tier invincible dude zooming around
The point is that he isnt a regular military badass. Those are the enemies you kill. The protagonist himself is a paranormal monster
You know you can slow down the game, right? It's a core feature for slow mo.

my thoughts exactly
spam dodging around at the speed of doom guy was getting pretty silly when everyone else moves at normal CoD speeds

glad i refunded in time
More F.E.A.R than all of the fear sequals though
that's true
Trepang2 is pretty good, although maybe a bit spastic.

*the F.E.A.R. 2 we got
Not entirely, but it is a bigger chunk of the game than I would've liked
I had a far amount of fun with the game.
On,y played the demo. Is the final game also consistent of shitty wave shooter levels where you stand in a square so the hud bar on top fills up?
why is it so easy to nostalgia bait boomer shootergays? are they moronic?
FEAR had shitty boxy level design and it wasn't scary.
Its more DUUM than FEAR.
