Counter counter point: both have the same amount of content and playtime.
I have no idea where this meme started, MD is even longer because it has more side content.
And all of it is actually good, so skipping to the main story makes zero sense.

the organized crime portion sucked

We didn't know how good we had it. I was mad when I found out they canceled nu Dude Sex 3, mad but not surprised. They pulled a Half Life 3 on us: blueball the audience for a sequel and then drop them all on their asses lol. But hey ho, that's how things go now
In MD's defense, side quests are longer than in HR, in fact much of MD's content is just exploring the world in general. For me the most memorable moment was when I burglared into the house of that gambler that owes money to the Dvalis and has a timed gas bomb rigged as soon as you enter, the little robotic voice was funny. Something something "with whom not to frick", lol good times
Counter counter point: both have the same amount of content and playtime.

I'm so confused by these posts. Predecessor to MD would be HR, right? Do people actually think HR was a "third of a game?" Or even MD for that matter? I'm sure you can fly though the game if you ignore side quests and only stick to the main story, but that's true of most RPGs. What are you two talking about?
Jesus Christ anon >OP: "This game is overall better than it's predecessor"

It's moronic either way. Neither is a third of a game. MD tells a third of a story, but it still feels like a full game. The story just obviously got cut and things got chopped up and moved around in editing
I think Mankind Divided has better gameplay than the first Deus Ex. There are no useless skills, much of the same depth of interactivity, all the Augs are useful if you build it right, going fully Nonlethal is viable and fun, and there's not second half that sucks ass like the original. If it had proper dialogue options, made the CASIE not a cakewalk(i'd base them off LA Noire) to use, and gave Jensen a real character and a full story, it wouldn't even be up to debate.
I liked the yellow filter. It made everything feel coheive. Mankind Divided, walking around prague during the day felt like you were walking home after a drunken one night stand

While I never considered it before, I know exactly what you mean and I agree
Recognized it as a good, yet flawed game that had a troubled development after Squenix pulled resources from it to focus on Marvel's Avengers. Which is exactly what it is. Unless you're talking about the turbo autists who think that any game that doesn't measure up to the original DX is automatically shit. But no one cares what those losers think
there have been a bunch of autists arguing recently that nobody liked HR when i saw with my own eyes back then how Ganker lost its shit when we realized it was actually a good game. it's some soviet tier revisionism
Prague was annoying because its a realizing of "living city block", but you can't chill and explore because TERRORIST BOMBING HURRY BEFURE ITS TOO LATE

no journo gay, not a guy, ME
and no not some people, I literally killed 10% of the entire population of prague and half the police force including 20 combat robots

I have a feeling the game was only unsuccessful because the trailer for Human Revolution was so good it convinced every normie to buy the game and when they played it they were filtered so they never bothered with the sequel
There is probably truth to this, and it's why even if we do get a new DX game, it's more likely to be a reboot than a sequel. Even by the time of HR there were plenty of normies who didn't know the plot of the games. They were watching the intro, not knowing who Bob Page was or why he was important. The story is important in these games and with each passing year it becomes more of an ask to expect normies to remember what happened in these games from 10+ years ago

Seems to me you can't appreciate fiction without having to tie it with real life. The two can be separated. Just because MD took inspiration from BLM doesn't mean it's an endorsement of the movement (let me remind you that even BLM "activists" hated Eidos for, in their eyes, belittling their cause with the Aug Lives Matter thing), it's merely inspiration taken to create a fictional story, nothing more, nothing less
There's a fairly common fan theory that the Jensen you play as in MD is a clone. I'm not going to go through all of the evidence here, but you can look it up >two Jensens staring at each other on the main menu >the entire Sarif subplot where he reveals that your augs are all new and don't have the same serial numbers as the ones he put into Jensen in HR >no record of Adam at the recovery site in Alaska >Jensen's memory from that time period is fuzzy >"the box"

They already did that in Human Revolution.
Not really, that cheevo unlocks after beating the game and finding out Morpheus was based on Eliza and that Megan will work on the Grey Death. They made Human Revolution thinking it wouldn't get a sequel so Adam's story was supposed to be self-contained, with the post credits dialogue showing simple ties to Denton's story but no direct "Adam is the Denton's genetic progenitor".
It takes a bit of modding to make 2077 look/feel/play like Deus Ex but you can get there. It's less grounded and more over the top in terms of worldbuilding but it can actually scratch that itch
It takes a bit of modding to make 2077 look/feel/play like Deus Ex but you can get there. It's less grounded and more over the top in terms of worldbuilding but it can actually scratch that itch
i still don't get why augs are being opressed like minorities. i mean, just dont chop your limbs off? plus the game makes it seem like augmentations are so cheap and widely available for everyone instead of something that only richgays can afford
>i still don't get why augs are being opressed like minorities
They are a minority of the population but have been causing a majority of the (false flag) terrorist attacks
>i mean, just dont chop your limbs off?
Most corporations shut down aug production after the events of the first game so most of the people with augs in MD actually need them
a lot of people require them for work and they kind of are cheap (to produce, at least)
there's also a slew of e-books in HR explaining how they help people regain all sorts of bodily functions
>The HR setting depicts a job market that struggles because of superhumans: get augmented (often because your company pays for the operation and your drugs) and you can perform like 15 workers by yourself. >This leads to a shortage of jobs (both physical and "intellectual", as there are brain-focused augs too), again because augs can do the job of multiple people (which means less job offers), and non-augs are rapidly pushed out of the market as their value decreased almost instantly. >This is why HR is filled with homeless people.
>It's even more of an issue because augmentations are a rapidly evolving tech, so you got multiple generations of the same augs in the span of a handful of years and it leads to a job market that's extremely competitive even for people that embraced transhumanism, as older models have a huge disadvantage over newer stuff. >Meanwhile the biggest conglomerates can afford to turn their workers into state of the art cyborgs which increases productivity and pushes smaller companies to bankruptcy as they simply can't compete anymore. >So the streets gets filled with low-tier augs that were laid off, and they need to take care of their tech on their own (which turns them into junkies and increases crime). >The Human Revolution world is truly a nightmare
That type of future was written about and predicted by Kacynski. We're already kind of there, being forced to use the tech or being shunned from general society. It's possible to not own a cellphone or have the internet today, but it's gonna make things really difficult for you. One day, you're gonna be expected to get the brain implant. Nobody will force you, but it will be necessary, and there would be a lot of social pressure to do so.
Elon Musk talked about how we're basically already cyborgs with really slow data transfer with how tied we are to our cell phones. It's really crazy how much modern jobs rely on being able to text, call, or email you and receive and instant response from your pocket...
>i still don't get why augs are being opressed like minorities.
The "why" is because of the aug incident at the end of Human Revolution where augs everywhere went schizo and started attacking innocent people all over the world. So now people fear augmented people and the possibility that it could happen again. >i mean, just dont chop your limbs off?
Sure, but what's done is done. We already know that mech augs fall out of favor by DX1, so people certainly do "stop chopping their limbs off". But what about the people like Jensen who already had it done?
If you're going to b***h about pozzed shit go for the detective that served in Africa deciding someone can't possibly be a suspect as he's a muzzie and they totes never break their religious beliefs nevermind that it would have been done in the name of allah which makes it completely kosher in their books
I always thought it was a pretty good idea to go hard on the augmentation aspect and fly the more controversial politics lore under the radar. Otherwise I think this series would have been buried the kind of shit it was talking about in DX1
When normalgays think of DXHR they think of cyberpunk robot arms, which lets stuff like the "global cybernetic patch lets the elite program you" go unmolested by the media
I grabbed a physical copy of Human Revolution from a reseller shop, but when installing it, it keeps trying to use steam. a key came with the game, but (duh), it's already used. am i truly fricked?
>read thread >general consensus is that human revolution is suddenly bad now
wtf??? idk what you revisionist morons are on now but hr was not a bad game. frick outta here with that shit
I think MD has the cooler setting/characters/choices, but PREY has the better gameplay freedom and non-interruption with constant 3rd person switching. They're both great.
>eidos makes multiple trailers completely jerking off the aug ghetto area >in the actual game it's the most linear thing ever put in a deus ex game, it's also super short
mechanically MD is objectively better but christ the characters and writing are so bad
the first time I played it I couldn't believe it when the credits rolled
it's weird how bad the characters are when HR nailed that part
i wonder if its intentional to make tf29 feel like a worse place to work than sarif, or maybe jensen is too jaded that he doesn't want to form attachments to the people around him or something
Maybe I’m fricked up and ‘tistic as shit, but Human Revolution’s controls just felt WAY better. They were semi-floaty but still worked. Mankind Divided over-corrected and made things way too snappy. Just bouncing from in and out of cover felt weird and jarring like whiplash. Also did i miss something from the storyline? Because the game tells you the vaguest “they found Jensen after the Panchea explosion” but who the frick are these new characters rushed into view? It felt so weird like I was missing multiple cutscenes, but I swear I watched the full intro. Maybe I’ll give it another chance, but it just doesn’t capture that and cohesiveness that Human Revolution had, despite HR’s flaws. I played maybe 5 hours of Mankind Divided but that should be enough to get an “off” feeling for a game. I love the original Deus Ex and Human Revolution for different, opposing ways.
Adam starts working for the Collective he meets in the The Missing Link DLC for Human Revolution. As to what exactly happened after Panchaea and how he ended up in Prague it's all explained in a tie-in novel
They were going hard with the extended universe stuff. A lot of story and character stuff happened in mobile games or books etc. but it isn't too hard to follow.
i much prefer the more grounded look of cyber prague
Prague was immaculate. Having a couple of more locations like it would have been amazing.
Duh. It's actually hard to go back to HR if you have MD's gameplay fresh in your mind
Prague felt like a middle ground between HR's golden age of cyber-renaissance artstyle and DX1's more grounded depiction of dystopian future cities

killing a bunch of cops and employees at a crime scene for the lols and watching Jensen attempt to rationalize it? good stuff
love the soundtrack
that's a good one but nothing is ever going to top some of the tracks from the original
>mfw the bass kicks in
i definitely agree, og has the best music
?t=74
I replayed both lately. HR was better overall. It was more complete plotwise although I like world building in MD more
Any other cyberpunk games that feel like MD? Something bleak, with that gritty, realistic atmosphere.
cyberpunk
Guess I should've specified other than CP2077
Most corporations shut down aug production after the events of the first game so most of the people with augs in MD actually need them
a lot of people require them for work and they kind of are cheap (to produce, at least)
there's also a slew of e-books in HR explaining how they help people regain all sorts of bodily functions
saved this from another thread.
But what about the people like Jensen who already had it done?
people were pressured to get augs to keep their jobs at all levels of society.
I thought the story was hard to follow
The animated takedowns get tedious after a while.
Excited for the next game, I'm glad they officially announced it, even if it's still super early
>I'm glad they officially announced it
It's pozzed, has an entire gay divorce sub plot.
When normalgays think of DXHR they think of cyberpunk robot arms, which lets stuff like the "global cybernetic patch lets the elite program you" go unmolested by the media
even though this game is from 2016 it legitimately looks a lot better than a lot of new releases
Choose.
Big hair Eliza
Malik, all day
Worst part of MD is her absence
Ganker really can't go one day without drooling over a dark skin tomboy
Malik is a ride or die real one
Delara
Faridah
Aria
In that order
Obviously Anna
faridah for loving and yelena for hatefricking
Is this bih worth a purchase? I see it on sale all the time, and I really liked HR. Can a 7840U/780M device run it at med- high settings at 1920x1200?
Bumping 2nd question
it was infamous for having performance issues at launch, I have no idea if they fixed them
on that card tho it probably won't run great
*is only half of a game in your path*
thanks so much for that Square Enix
>is still twice as good as most full games
most full games today, yeah for sure
for OP tho, HR is just better aside from MD having a much better main hub
I grabbed a physical copy of Human Revolution from a reseller shop, but when installing it, it keeps trying to use steam. a key came with the game, but (duh), it's already used. am i truly fricked?
>read thread
>general consensus is that human revolution is suddenly bad now
wtf??? idk what you revisionist morons are on now but hr was not a bad game. frick outta here with that shit
Reminder Sarif is an butthole
clearly jensen just didn't read the contract
He signed the contract
Which is the best modern imsim?
I think MD has the cooler setting/characters/choices, but PREY has the better gameplay freedom and non-interruption with constant 3rd person switching. They're both great.
>with constant 3rd person switching
This never bothered me, I never got the hate
Mid to late 2010s was rife with shitty cover art like this. God advertising teams are so fricking boring.
>eidos makes multiple trailers completely jerking off the aug ghetto area
>in the actual game it's the most linear thing ever put in a deus ex game, it's also super short
what the frick were they thinking
I didn't enjoy it as much as the HR. The story wasn't as good and the "metroidvania" of Prague annoyed me.
The dlc where you break into a bank or data center was top notch, tho
I like HR a lot more, more characters that are way better & more story, MD felt aimless in comparison & there was barely any of those debate moments.
mechanically MD is objectively better but christ the characters and writing are so bad
the first time I played it I couldn't believe it when the credits rolled
it's weird how bad the characters are when HR nailed that part
i wonder if its intentional to make tf29 feel like a worse place to work than sarif, or maybe jensen is too jaded that he doesn't want to form attachments to the people around him or something
What would be his reaction after the Aug Incident?
A lot of story and character stuff happened in mobile games or books etc. but it isn't too hard to follow.
i rawdogged breach, didn't pay a goddamn cent for anything and actually kind of enjoyed it. the power of spite!
