This game is overrated. You can't scroll the screen left; you have to hold a button to run, making jumps awkward; and there are only a few songs.

No one else reply to this thread until it falls off the board or the OP has to humiliate himself by bumping his failed attempt.
Spot on, but you're not allowed to admit it
Agreed, but people have utter shit taste so here we are.
if you think SMB is deficient, you've clearly not played enough NES/FC games especially the early stuff from that 1985 period. A lot of that stuff was horrible jank with bad controls and stiff as frick physics.
Despite these limitations it's better than 90% of its games including most of its successors really makes you think. It's almost as if limitations are not correlated to enjoyment
It is overrated, though not for the reasons you're describing. It's actually the lack of challenge, the lack of variety, and the lack of interesting mechanics or gameplay. It attempts to have momentum, but the momentum feels terrible, and you continually battle the controls. Platformers didn't really hit their stride until Sonic introduced interesting momentum-based and physics-based gameplay.
That must be why everyone plays kaizo sonic hacks instead of kaizo smw hacks - OH WAIT
Oh good, zoomers critiquing a game from 1985. Super interesting stuff
>there are only a few songs
skill issue
that image is 32-bits
can super mario bros do 32-bits?
no?
then stfu
Ackshually, that image is most likely paletted.
This thread reminded me that I haven't played SMB for a year or two at least.
Gonna blast through it because its fun.
Disgusting.
Did you just look in a mirror or something, what's disgusting?
The facr you subject yourself to such traah, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised with the failings of the average /vr/etard.
Well I'm over here having fun, and you're over there getting so angry over a 40 year old game you don't have to play that you can barely string a sentence together.
So I know which one of us I'd rather be.
>Did the parents fail him
>Did our schools fail him
Rolling for both
Kill a Hammer Bro for me.
i hate that i know every bit of this game and every glitch and quirk like the back of my hand
i wish i could go "oh my god i didnt know that" like a moron to youtube fact channels
>I wish I didn't know about the game before I played it.
Just play a half decent romhack.
Obviously it's not some masterpiece, but it's still a solid game even by today's standards, which for the time is rather impressive.
It's definitely a masterpiece. People take it for granted now but one of the most important contributions Super Mario Bros. made to gaming at large is the game's physics. It wasn't the first platformer but compare Pitfall! to Super Mario Bros. Or even Donkey Kong and Mario Bros. to Super Mario Bros. The way Mario handles completely changed the way players expected games to control. Think of how long it took for games to figure out proper hitstun, which SMB did perfectly.
>not a masterpiece
It's literally the most pivotal, important game ever made
Nintendo is a fricking cult
I am not op but he is 100% correct also very handsome and popular
as anon said play some early Famicom games and see how poorly they control. i sampled Chubby Cherub and found that one out.
Ghosts' n Goblins came the same year
>get a powerup
>it makes you weaker
Rage inducing garbage
Filtered.
Play the arcade version. NES version controls like crap because of the low framerate.
>You can't scroll the screen left; you have to hold a button to run, making jumps awkward; and there are only a few songs.
That's the genius of Super Mario Bros.
Why do you want to scroll the screen left anyway
Is there a dx romhack that replaces all the graphics with amazing sprites and adds fds expanions audio
Play the All Stars version is a Remake of this game
