This but with Mafia 2/def jam fight for new york >cough cough DMC2
Kind of hard to do that when you get a new z list dev time and burn through a mystery director, man what a shit show.
Absolutely, turns out all that extra dev time and effort to make it look like that first cgi trailer paid off.
It really nailed that gritty fog of war feeling and attrition war, then 3 came along amd it became a generic sci fi shooter.
indeed, KZ2 was a direct improvement over the first game, which is what all sequels should strive cough cough DMC2)
KZ2 is easily the best in the series both in singleplayer and multiplayer >satisfying story campaign with none of the stupid gimmick shit later Sony sequels tried to do (Leviathan boss in resistance 2, the jet pack shit in KZ3) >one of the hardest hardest difficulty modes for a fps with enemies being aggressive but knowing how to take cover >multiplayer had dedicated servers >every map was good even the dlc maps >multiple game modes and classes that could be changed to fit the playstyle
KZ3 had its moments but it was an all around step back and the only match type anyone liked the one where the winners get to arrest/kill/beat the losers in a cutscene never got any updates.
Shadowfall was just shit
Honestly anon, it's not. Though we can thank KZ1 for starting the series, its also a generic sci-fi shooter that doesn't come close to either the aesthetics or gameplay of the later games. It's clunky as shit, has a bunch of mechanics that are either inconsequential or straight up forgotten about and writing for characters is even worse than the later games. If you really care about the story give it a go, but otherwise just forget about it. Just play 2, 3, Liberation and Mercenary. 1 and Shadowfall are kinda shit.
>something even before that
it's the same people doing it and all part of a bigger umbrella of the Kerberos saga. Yeah it's all Vader/Nazi aesthetics and gun porn, and it's also all very political/anti-US-imperialism/anti-fascism. Wow cool Nazi armor, now let's firebomb the government for oppressing the whims of the people with it. Weird clash, but it's what it is.
>ISA decide to invade Helghan and conquer the planet so they can arrest Scholar Visari >starts with your team Landing in the capital to help capture it >ISA steam rolling up until the Helghast decide to activate their trap cards and start assfricking the ISA
Just know almost the entire fanbase supported the helghast to the extent the devs got mad and tried to retroactively make Visari worse with the intro to killzone 3 and it didnt work.
Another thing is the players liked Sev even if he was mostly a wooden board in Killzone 2 but loved your squad mate Natko (the shitalker with with the shotgun) and hated Rico.
What is GGs response to this >Natko is completely removed from the game except as a background character or mute player 2 if playing coop singleplayer >you're paired with Rico 100% of the time
Even as a kid I noticed it was weird how Rico was universally the most hated in the first but he was back for the second. By the time the third came around I knew better.
GG really turned pissy over how poorly Rico was received, took nigh-on 3 games of trying to crowbar him in as the indisputable Good Guy, then threw the rattle out of the pram when the entire fanbase latched onto Visari's speech at the end of 2.
Definitely one of the lead writer's getting a wounded ego and lashing out over the course of 3 before they utterly dumped the lot for Shadow Fall.
Suppose they found their calling spewing out Horizon games now.
If I remember right Ricos model was based off one of the guys at GG or a friend of theirs. Funny thing is GG could even claim racism as the cause why the fanbase hated him because it was 100% the way they wrote him as an angry loud butthole who got or killed multiple characters over the course of the series, not to mention the ending to KZ3. >Shadowfall shows Earth, Vekta, or anyone else ever brought him up on war crimes and he's still wanted, likely protected by the vektan government

It really is kind of grating when a narrative treats a character like you're supposed to like them but everything they do is unlikable, its not just his abrasive personality but he's responsible for the whole third game happening. The whole mission of the second game is to capture Visari alive to force a cease fire and negotiations, the sacrifice of all your comrades was to get to Visari and what does Rico do? He mag dumps into his chest because he can't control his temper. Literal moron tier. Now the Helghast are pissed and you don't even have a hostage to hold them back with and the war continues.
Really should have been Sev and Natko going in to capture him, bringing the literal moron whose outbursts already got one of your squadmates killed and beat to death another ISA soldier for talking shit at a time when morale was already low is not a good idea. Its not like Rico hadn't already spent the whole game talking about how much he wants to kill all Helghast and muttering under his breath about how "they ALL have it coming...", literally right when you step into the palace he says "it ain't over till we see Visari fry..." clearly indicating he wants to kill him when the mission is to catch him alive. He clearly would prefer genocide over peace talks, and he gets his wish in the third game when you basically nuke the whole planet with him.

I spent the entire game hoping to God that Narville would grow some balls and put a bullet on that moron's head.
>mostly exists to make "your mom" jokes in KZ2 >missing from KZ3 >turns out he's the co-op character so you only see him if you play with another person
Honestly could've used a mom joke after Helghast blows up at the end of 3. That was one of the most confusing endings I've ever seen.
>hurr why don't people like the guy that destroyed any possibility of peace?
it isn't surprising the studio hasn't put anything noteworthy since KZ games
My understanding is Helghast left because wanted to get away from ISA. ISA said no and stole their lunch money. Helghast retaliated. That's how it was originally anyway I'm sure GG rewrote shit by now so Helghast was just boogeyman villain.
That is still canon. Vekta was settled by the Helghan Corporation and named after its founder, Philipe Vekta. Helghan was settled by the original Vektans.
Surprisingly I think that managed to stay the same, even into the ps4 one where ISA bad was more blatant. I actually really liked the story of that one, and the epilogue section was satisfying to see the effect the protagonist had on the helghast equivalent character.
>Earth's government shit at colonizing >Starts auctioning off planets with the Helghast corporation buying Vekta >Helghast(Original Vektans) started a trade war with ~~*UCN*~~ >Vekta declares independence >UCN mad and sent fleets and destroyed Vekta's and started nuking the cities that refused to surrender >All the native sent on exile to Helghan to die while UCN imports people to replace the population >Vasari came to power and declare war and vowed to retake Vekta >Didn't work >ISA(response for created by the UCN so they didn't need to any leg work.) prepares and invade Helghan and capture Vasari. >Nothing goes as planned and Vasari ends a martyr. >Devs make the Helghast more 'moustace-twirling' badly >ISA still bland and unlikable >Yada yada yada ends with Helghan becoming unlivable with most of the population getting genocided.
Guerilla really shitted the bed and wasted a good series.
>fans loved the bad guy character >writers get mad over it
Every single time.
HELGHAST DID NOTHING WRONG.
Frick the ISA.
We need a new game that lets you play as the Helghast and kill ISA mutts
Werent the Helghast defending themselves against the invading ISA the entire time? They were the good guys
All you "Helghast were the good guys" homosexuals are missing the point of the series. It's an extremely gray conflict hidden behind a surface-level good vs evil aesthetic. That's part of what makes the games interesting, because you really are just some boots on the ground soldier fighting for your side because of circumstance. Understanding of the Killzone narrative come in three varieties; > 1. Casual; the ISA are the good guys because we play as them and the Helghast look evil. > 2. Midwit; the Helghast are the good guys because the ISA are invaders and instigators. > 3. Understanding; the conflict is gray and neither faction is without valid reason for their actions.
>ISA invade Helghan territory, Helghans try to take it back >ISA invade Helghan homeworld, Helghans fight back >ISA literally destroys the entire planet
Yeah so grey. Fricking moron centrist
The original conflict that started off all the events of the Killzone franchise was the UCN sending a fleet to (Helgan controlled) Vekta to get them to chill because that one corporation was economically fricking the rest of the galaxy for profit through tariffs and tolls. The Helgans decided it was a good idea to have their underfunded police force fight the galaxy's largest organized military force instead of complying with UCN demands. This kicked off the first extrasolar war which ended in complete decimation for the Helgan corporation's fleet and the capture of Vekta as a strategic point. What part of that is not gray to you? Both had their reasons for doing what they did, and it all comes down to corporate/government greed.
Also did you forget the part of the game where nuking Helgan was not only an accident, but the only reason those nukes where there was because Stahl was planning to nuke Earth?
>NOOOOO ITS NOT JUST GOOD GUYS VS BAD GUYS IT IN SHADES OF GRAY
Imagine being this much of a fence sitting homosexual. The ISA are the bad guys and the Helghast were the only interesting thing about Killzone, keep seething.
Ah yes, the corporate fascist dictatorship that tests experimental weapons on PoWs, nukes their own cities (with troops still in them), kills non-combatants, executes their own soldiers for minor violations, developed a bio-weapon to wipe out a whole population with the intent to use it and literally think of themselves as genetically superior despite all being a bunch of leukemia-looking asthmatics are definitely the goodies, guys.
>trying to pass of input latency as innovative gameplay
Guerilla can suck my balls
Nice of them to include a bot mode though and the game sure looked pretty
Dont forget their bright idea for killzone 3 >Sony wants the move control marketed for all their fps >Killzone 3 gets an entire gun to place the move control into >playing with the move controls in the online gave the player autoaim to the head that could even stay locked on shortly after a player hid behind something so bullets would teleport through stuff to deliver the headshots
Strange seeing defend the objective and assassinate the target and not seeing an entire squad of assaults kamikazing in with rocket and grenade launchers
The guys making the servers set up events on discord for the games they support, there's one for Killzone 2 DLC maps on the 10th. Other than special days like that you're gonna need a group, or see if people on their discord want to play.
man i might check into emulating killzones on my PC just cuz the setting is so fricking cool
i've always been a xboner so i was always jealous of some playstation games, this being one of 'em
i wanna play motorstorm, as well
Quality thread, fully with the Anons who enjoyed KZ2, highlight of the series, insane combat and production values. Guerrilla fully pozzed now and will never reach those heights again for me.
Also a reminder that Radec is one of the most criminally underused characters in a shooter ever, and if it weren't for you being the protagonist, he'd have absolutely won the campaign defending against the ISA invasion of the capital. Splendid tactician, awesome design, voice, AI behaviour, the works.
I enjoyed KZ3 for the spectacle and the colourful visuals, the multiplayer had some fun new abilities. But once the novelty wore off it didn't age anywhere near as well, plus the player count was only 24 down from 32. But the dynamic objectives were fantastic in both, took nearly a decade before other shooters started using mechanics like it.
Will still go back to my copy on PS3 now and again, though I can still dare to dream we might get a trilogy collection on PC one day...
Agreed on every point definitely the peak of the series and its a shame they squandered the potential after that and aren't going back to it any time soon.
>didn't have PS3 during the Resistance 1 days >avoided Resistance 2 because I heard it was a Halo clone >finally play 3, SP was kino but MP was CODized
I suppose it's my fault, wish I'd gotten to play 1 or 2 during their peak though
2 was already codized, you could only carry 2 guns and i don't remember if they scrapped the health pak + regen system of the first one or not
the mp was fun though, i played it quite a lot
Resistance 2 was a mixed bag. Singleplayer wasnt bad but wasnt great either, the multiplayer though was fantastic with the 6 player coops and 64 player tdm being the standouts
>CoD going PC/Xbox exclusive in a few years from now
I love the idea of spending $68.7 billion dollars on a company, only to stop selling its biggest product to its biggest user base. Never change Gankerirgins.
It's a shame this series is over. The Dutch basedboys from Guerrilla couldn't withstand the community constantly begging to play as the space fascists, so they shitcanned the franchise to work in Horizon till the Sun goes cold. Shadow Fall was completely unremarkable in every aspect tho.
I picked up shadow fall for like 5 bucks a few years back. Couldn't stand it. 3 was crappier than 2, but still half decent. I don't know what they did to shadow fall.
I blame the art style and the that most weapons feel like peashooters. Shadow Fall is too clean and pristine and neat while KZ2 and KZ3 had dirt and dust and grime everywhere. It's like an entirely different art team took over after development for Killzone Merc had ended.
>play as Helghast >only shooting at generic space muhreens
I don't think there was a way to fulfill that request effectively. Mercenary probably came the closest since you're behind both combat lines
Maybe a helghast civil war, or they'd have to reinvent the ISA to be more visually interesting and have a variety of specialized units with strengths and weaknesses to give the gameplay variety.
Yeah the aesthetic went from a gritty militarized sci fi with elements of ww2 visuals to just a generic clean sci fi with no real inspiration or design philosophy other than dudes with orange glowy bits and sharp edges versus dudes with blue glowy bits and round shapes.
Weren't the ISA a rinky-dink operation too? Like those transport platform things were originally repurposed trucks or something. There was a leaked script that talked about shit like that.
Anonymous
It was very utilitarian and industrial yes, all in service of the aesthetic.
Helghast civil war would have been the best way to do it. And there's plenty of reason for it, given how the government nuked its own side. If that fact ever got out, it'd be instant civil war.
Thats probably what KZ3 should have been since it was almost a civil war between Stahl's and Orlock's factions anyway. It would have been the right time too since people wanted a helghast campaign and were excited at first when the game opens with you playing as one only to reveal that its Sev in disguise.
Visari having the capital nuked is probably the worst kept secret of the war. >entire city is abandoned except for a skeleton crew of forces >all of the helghan generals, commanders, and high lvl politicians know about it >the other 95% of the helghan army and navy dont come out of hiding to attack until majority of the ISA forces are in the city and get nuked >ISA forces know Radic kicked their asses and took a nuke
What I wanna know is why the rest of the Helghast fleet didn't come out until after Visari was dead, the city gets nuked and then the small remaining ISA convoy assaults the palace, and I remember the defenders on the outside saying "I can't reach HQ we're on our own." The ISA weren't jamming them or anything, Visari and Radec are inside the palace with one division defending them, you'd really think Visari would order the rest of the army which were just sitting on their asses nearby to help him.

From what I remember the remaining ISA forces were fighting basically only Radics forces at the capital, reason being why it took the rest of the helghast forces time to arrive is they were being deployed from underground or somewhat near the other side of the planet.
Mind you soon as they arrive a good 75% of the remaining isa are killed trying to escape. >yfw the isa completely so totally frick up the invasion that out of the entire invasion force only less than 100 troops make it back home and accidently nuke Helghan so badly Earth gives half of Vekta to them
God, I miss Mercenary. I wish I hadn't gotten drunk and fallen asleep on my Vita while I was eating McNuggets and dripped bbq sauce all over the buttons
They resemble Nazi's too much and I guarantee Sony ain't having any of it. Not surprised such a gay company like Snoy wouldn't allow for this. Frick them. Sony should allow these games to be remastered and port them to PC.
A surprisingly sexy mashup of an M16 and an SA80. Best thing about the weapons in this game is that they actually felt real, and they had weight to them
>ISA used mashed up versions of the burger and bong rifles >Helghast use a glorified spess FAMAS with a plastic barrel mag
The game manual for the first game was rad for having pages dedicated to all of the equipment used in the game. Presenting it all like it was some ingame newspaper was a kino format back when people could still read.
A word of warning, KZ2 is really hard to get into because the game has an inordinate amount of input lag to simulate all the wait an infantryman is supposed to carry, so the controls feel heavy as frick. KZ3 less so.
>the game has an inordinate amount of input lag to simulate all the wait an infantryman is supposed to carry
No. The input lag is just a side effect of the deferred rendering techniques used in the game which were very impressive for the ps3 at the time.
I remember most of it was indeed due to its graphics, but there was some of it that was a deliberate choice because it was one of the first things patched out way early into release which made the gameplay, specially for multiplayer, much more responsive.
>The gameplay footage was recorded/played in slow-motion and then the video was sped up in post-production.
That other anon is obviously incorrect but this video is just not proof of it.
>this game is underrated as hell
No sony game will ever get a reasonable and honest thread anon, don't bother. LittelBigPlanet is the single most soulful platformer ever made in all of gaming, and autistic soulless robots on this board will never get it
>If only things didn't go to shit with copied levels and the fricked up rollout of Dreams.
It's the one game I want to see rereleased for the PS5 along with MGS4 so I can have it. I still have my release week fat 60gig PS3, but I don't like the thought of never being able to go back to those games, even if I haven't played them in like a decade and a half. The cell processor shit really fricked up the backwards compatibility for some of the best games of all time.
Based and LBPilled
If only things didn't go to shit with copied levels and the fricked up rollout of Dreams.
[...] >no mouselook
Shame, but I'll give it a shot to see if the input latency is better than on original hardware.
I love LBP but no. Wait, did they ever fix the level thing in the LBP games? iirc all the games got fricked
Are you talking about the copied levels or the hack that they shut down the servers for? The answer to both is unfortunately no. 3 is still up, and levels can be downloaded offline to play on 1 and 2 due to 3 having compatibility issues.
Puppeteer is fricking great too. Might be one of the few games worth owning a 3D TV for.
>>no mouselook
RPCS3 + KAMI, support was officially added 2 weeks ago. KZ1/2/3 all work.
Seems like it would be pretty clunky from what I'm hearing.
I played KZ2 with Ganker like 12 years ago and it was seriously the only time I've ever had fun playing a game with other Gankerners, the meme spewing and /misc/frickery has gotten worse and worse to the point where I'll never participate in a "Ganker plays" thing ever again. I guess the fact that those PS3 headsets weren't cheap really filtered out a lot of the riffraff
god the multiplayer in this was so fricking fun, i must have put hundreds of hours into it, i remember killzone 3 coming out and being immensely disappointed in the online
I played the demo for this game over and over so many times when I was a kid waiting for it to come out. Everytime that it'd end on the ledge/platform in the warehouse I'd jump around as if I could get past to some extra area if I tried hard enough. I just remembered, just now, how happy I was when the game finally released and I could actually play past that part.
Killzone had this issue whereas literally NOBODY in the entire fan base gave a shit about the main cast. We didn't want to play as rugged mohawk man, or be teamed up with disposable character quirk #3, and some angry moronic Black person.
Since day fricking one, everyone wanted to be the Helghast.
Haha, nope. > generic main character man. > love interest for generic main character man to have cringe dialog with. > over-the-top gung-ho racist stereotype man. > actually kino half-blood intellectual.
Well you got one of em right at least.
It shit all over the realistic sci-fi that Killzone was known for in favour of generic overdesigned sci-fi. The story was moronic, the map design was moronic, the characters were somehow worse than earlier entries, the combat design went all out of wack, etc. Shadowfall deserves to be forgotten.
This was the last multiplayer game I got really into. When they updated the guns to handle like CoD I dropped it. Fricking idiot devs ruined the one unique aspect it had.
Pre-"""update""" it had the best feeling guns out of any console shooter ever.
Killzone series up until the last one have absolute stellar aesthetics and I wish I could rescue Helghast from the shitty series into their own protagonist game

To be fair he just says he wants to have the Helghast as the protagonists of their own series, even if the conflict is grey if you can play as the ISA then why not the other side.
Were Guerilla just moronic or something? Why did they never capitalise on the Helghast being loved? If they were pozzed the whole time why would they even make the Helghast so likeable and the ISA generic american invader inserts?
KZ3 should have been playing a Helghast squad taking their planet back.
Farcry 5 had a song in it that was supposed to parody right wing americans but the audience loved it unironically and Ubisoft got really buttmad about it.
Funny thing is the Brits did the same thing during the Revolutionary War with Yankee Doodle Dandy, a song meant to make fun of colonials but they liked it and made it their own.
>Why did they never capitalise on the Helghast being loved?
Becasue they're "le space nazi's" and we can't have people liking them so we'll just cancel the series and make a shitty open world game instead.
Sony did for a while, the Uncharted 2 dlc that included the Helghast, Chimera, Zeke, Cole, both the fire and ice chicks from Infamous 2, Sev, and the main character from Resistance 1 and 2 sold like hell.
I think that is because it lacked aim assist and this was combined with the fact it is a console FPS on PS3 where the games also were a lot less responsive than practically all shooters on the market at that point. Its really no surprise to me why the series never took off despite me liking 2 and 3.
honestly the worst FPS game I played.
It feels like it's in slow-motion and with delay and 200% gravity (you have a jump button but you just jump 10 centimeters high) and camera shakes non-stop. Weapons have huge spread and recoil and most of them are automatic.
It's just brown and black.
Characters are annoying.
MP is "who sees who first wins" but with heavy spawn camping (and of course the community was so fricking dumb I was always the only one using the class with respawn smoke grenades). Also the sniper class has camo and 1 sniper shot in the foot and he guy is dead.
Most people will just rush through tiny corridors to feed the enemy team, if you actually take another path to flank the enemy you suddenly become the best player of the team.
Also there is an xp system and you see "+100" shit on your screen for every kill.
Killzone 2 feels like a parody of everything wrong wit modern shooters, except it takes itself super seriously.
Killzone has always been shit and Guerilla never made a good game.
As flawed as it is, Resistance was infinitely better than Killzone.
>mfw the game came out and servers hadn't banned the grenade launcher + super speed combo yet
KZ2 multiplayer was so fricking good. Good map designs, the rotating objectives were awesome, cool classes with a good mix of powers. The only problem is that some of the class features were obviously more enticing than others. morons who played... tactician? and put spawns in stupid places or not at all were dogshit.
Also it was a crime how much you had to give up to run the machineguns. Speaking of weapons, my other major complaint was the lack of alt fire. Helghast rifle's shotgun and ISA's grenade launcher should have been in.
>mfw ran the tactician + speed boost ability to stay in the top 1% of players for a good 6 months
You could drop spawn points at objectives quicker then the enemy team could get to em and made it piss easy to cause base camp spawn camping
For serious play, it was becoming a robot overlord. Engineer with sentry, drone, and one of the best shotguns in a multiplayer game until they nerfed it.
I also really liked using the machineguns and would unironically play soldier. They were fricking strong, but I still think it was a bad choice to not let them have a secondary badge.
Yeah it was a real bummer having to give up every other perk to use a belt-fed, would have been more worth it if you could actually use the bipod on them tho.
They will never bring it back. If they do it will change too much therefore being ruined. Even if they did bring it back keeping it largely the same though the game is too niche so it will largely be ignored by most besides the hardcore fans of the game.
>best map
Salamun Market for me. I never got to play on the DLC maps unfortunately but by the time the game declined nobody was seemingly playing them.
I think it gave the best of everything Killzone 2 had to offer in multiplayer. The two sides are pretty big and wide open while still providing enough cover so you aren't as likely to be spawn camped on that map in the same way you can others such as Tharsis Depot for example. Then its also got plenty of tighter smaller areas to let weapons like the shotgun shine while it also provides a lot of bigger wide open areas for sniping. It even has the turrets you can use. I don't think any other map in that game provided for as much opportunity for the games gameplay to shine as much as that map did. Then KZ3 ruined it by inserting mechs into the map but yeah that one was the best for KZ2. Even better than Radec Academy in my eyes. People liked that one a lot because it was perfect for guerilla warfare aka TDM. Radec Academy felt like a map that can easily fit well in plenty of other shooters yet also worked well enough for KZ2.
Killzone 3 maps though were just not that good. That to me is a huge reason why 2 is much better.
Killzone 3 had the issue of worse maps + the maps that did return they somehow made worse.
Then add to it that many of the match types were separated up with some maps exclusive to certain match types.
Killzone 2s maps just constantly hit it out of the park with the weakest being some of the dlc maps (beachhead, Vekta cruiser) but even they were good.
I played 3 at release and quickly dropped it. KZ2 had great design that was fricked up by players being morons; KZ3 designed for players being morons. That was my feeling at the time. They made some cool improvements here and there but the maps felt worse, the class abilities were worse in a lot of cases, and in general it didn't improve on enough to me. I didn't play a ton so I could be a dumb homosexual, and it's been how many fricking years since then so I don't even know the details that much. I also tried the MP for the Vita and PS4 ones and had no fun with either. The Vita game is pretty cool overall though.

>he doesn't remember when they buffed the air sentries so that they'd hit headshots way more often than they should have >engineer class taking both the ground turret and the air sentry and just spawn camping with them >certain guns in multiplayer being absolutely fricking useless because of weird weapon spray patterns
the ISA machine gun that looked like an M249 SAW was fricking GARBAGE but the helghast one that looked like an MG42 that you couldn't aim down the sights with was great because the spray pattern would always get lucky headshots
game was fun as shit back in the day though and I really liked the long multiplayer matches where you cycle through multiple different game modes in one match
Did you ever play any of the custom matches where all of the match types were set to the max time? A match could easily last over an hour but you could also rake up 500+ kills
It was certainly better than Halo but for some reason the 360 was the multiplayer console and ps3 was the single player. Never understood that given that psn was free
not that anon and while I don't really wanna argue about which was better by any objective analysis, I definitely had way more fun with KZ2's MP than Halo's. Rotating objectives as the core match type was such a good fricking concept.
psn sucked dick when the ps3 first came out
I remember playing CoD4 when it came out and you couldn't even open the home screen to check your messages while in game; you'd have to quit out of CoD to tell your friend you're waiting on two other people to join a lobby or whatever
by the time KZ2 came out, this wasn't an issue anymore but people already "knew" the ps3 was the inferior multiplayer console
We know that Sony now has a vested interest in the PC platform. Do we think there’s a non-zero chance we’ll ever get remaster ports of stuff like Killzone 2 and Infamous? I know dealing with the PS3 is a big ask for devs, but some of that first party stuff should absolutely be easily playable on a PS5, bare minimum. RPCS3 is outpacing Sony, the creator of the machine.
>input lag the game
the reason Call of Duty became so massively popular in the 7th gen, was because it was actually responsive and targeted 60 fps on consoles
Great games. Lots of good memories playing the mp in my dimly lit basement. I was that homosexual with the sneaky turret placements guarding the chokepoints.

It shits all over 1. Only Kamiyadrones pretend otherwise.
DMC2 is the best of the series. It does not deserve the hate.
Not hard when the first game is steaming dogshit snoy
Absolutely, turns out all that extra dev time and effort to make it look like that first cgi trailer paid off.

is the PSONE server actually semi populated? Would love to play this in multiplayer again
I never played Killzone but I would if they did a Killzone collection like the MCC
Damn i just got this and kz3 in the mail today.
i fricking hate kz3
If Sony weren't homosexuals, they'd release KZ2 and 3, MAG and Warhawk on PC.
and Starhawk
no, Starhawk sucked
Is KZ1 worth going back to? Love the gritty sci-fi aesthetic of early Killzone but I've heard 1 is pretty rough
Kinda 50/50
KZ2 is easily the best in the series both in singleplayer and multiplayer
>satisfying story campaign with none of the stupid gimmick shit later Sony sequels tried to do (Leviathan boss in resistance 2, the jet pack shit in KZ3)
>one of the hardest hardest difficulty modes for a fps with enemies being aggressive but knowing how to take cover
>multiplayer had dedicated servers
>every map was good even the dlc maps
>multiple game modes and classes that could be changed to fit the playstyle
KZ3 had its moments but it was an all around step back and the only match type anyone liked the one where the winners get to arrest/kill/beat the losers in a cutscene never got any updates.
Shadowfall was just shit
KZ2 mp was a lot of fun. More games should do that where winners are in a cutscene kicking losers ass.
1 and Shadowfall are kinda shit.
need more jin roh games
Jesus I fricking love that style of armor.
same
I thought Jin-Roh did it first. Now I know there was something even before that. They were all inspired by Vader and the Nazi's right?
Inspired by WW1 gas masks and the like mostly. Check out the trench war scene from Sucker Punch.
>something even before that
it's the same people doing it and all part of a bigger umbrella of the Kerberos saga. Yeah it's all Vader/Nazi aesthetics and gun porn, and it's also all very political/anti-US-imperialism/anti-fascism. Wow cool Nazi armor, now let's firebomb the government for oppressing the whims of the people with it. Weird clash, but it's what it is.
The Red Spectacles is part of the Jin-Roh series. And yeah its a semi-futuristic wehrmacht aesthetic.
Does it have a good story?
The first two do.
Bro you fight homies that are based off of communist and nazi idol of course that shit is good as frick
>ISA decide to invade Helghan and conquer the planet so they can arrest Scholar Visari
>starts with your team Landing in the capital to help capture it
>ISA steam rolling up until the Helghast decide to activate their trap cards and start assfricking the ISA
Just know almost the entire fanbase supported the helghast to the extent the devs got mad and tried to retroactively make Visari worse with the intro to killzone 3 and it didnt work.
>fans loved the bad guy character
>writers get mad over it
Every single time.
Another thing is the players liked Sev even if he was mostly a wooden board in Killzone 2 but loved your squad mate Natko (the shitalker with with the shotgun) and hated Rico.
What is GGs response to this
>Natko is completely removed from the game except as a background character or mute player 2 if playing coop singleplayer
>you're paired with Rico 100% of the time
Even as a kid I noticed it was weird how Rico was universally the most hated in the first but he was back for the second.
I spent the entire game hoping to God that Narville would grow some balls and put a bullet on that moron's head.
>mostly exists to make "your mom" jokes in KZ2
>missing from KZ3
>turns out he's the co-op character so you only see him if you play with another person
Honestly could've used a mom joke after Helghast blows up at the end of 3. That was one of the most confusing endings I've ever seen.
>hurr why don't people like the guy that destroyed any possibility of peace?
it isn't surprising the studio hasn't put anything noteworthy since KZ games
HELGHAST DID NOTHING WRONG.
fact
Werent the Helghast defending themselves against the invading ISA the entire time? They were the good guys
I didn't even look into 4 after they destroyed Helghast.
>Earth's government shit at colonizing
>Starts auctioning off planets with the Helghast corporation buying Vekta
>Helghast(Original Vektans) started a trade war with ~~*UCN*~~
>Vekta declares independence
>UCN mad and sent fleets and destroyed Vekta's and started nuking the cities that refused to surrender
>All the native sent on exile to Helghan to die while UCN imports people to replace the population
>Vasari came to power and declare war and vowed to retake Vekta
>Didn't work
>ISA(response for created by the UCN so they didn't need to any leg work.) prepares and invade Helghan and capture Vasari.
>Nothing goes as planned and Vasari ends a martyr.
>Devs make the Helghast more 'moustace-twirling' badly
>ISA still bland and unlikable
>Yada yada yada ends with Helghan becoming unlivable with most of the population getting genocided.
Guerilla really shitted the bed and wasted a good series.
Good job twisting the narrative and leaving out half the relevant information.
All you "Helghast were the good guys" homosexuals are missing the point of the series. It's an extremely gray conflict hidden behind a surface-level good vs evil aesthetic. That's part of what makes the games interesting, because you really are just some boots on the ground soldier fighting for your side because of circumstance. Understanding of the Killzone narrative come in three varieties;
> 1. Casual; the ISA are the good guys because we play as them and the Helghast look evil.
> 2. Midwit; the Helghast are the good guys because the ISA are invaders and instigators.
> 3. Understanding; the conflict is gray and neither faction is without valid reason for their actions.
>ISA invade Helghan territory, Helghans try to take it back
>ISA invade Helghan homeworld, Helghans fight back
>ISA literally destroys the entire planet
Thank you for admitting that I'm right and the ISA are globalist stand ins, who respond to a successful independent economies with military invasion.
Take your meds, schizo.
>take your meds, schizo
>NOOOOO ITS NOT JUST GOOD GUYS VS BAD GUYS IT IN SHADES OF GRAY
Imagine being this much of a fence sitting homosexual. The ISA are the bad guys and the Helghast were the only interesting thing about Killzone, keep seething.
Ah yes, the corporate fascist dictatorship that tests experimental weapons on PoWs, nukes their own cities (with troops still in them), kills non-combatants, executes their own soldiers for minor violations, developed a bio-weapon to wipe out a whole population with the intent to use it and literally think of themselves as genetically superior despite all being a bunch of leukemia-looking asthmatics are definitely the goodies, guys.
t. ISA mutt.
I don't care. Imperialists' will always be the greater evil, frick the ISA.
>trying to pass of input latency as innovative gameplay
Guerilla can suck my balls
Nice of them to include a bot mode though and the game sure looked pretty
Dont forget their bright idea for killzone 3
>Sony wants the move control marketed for all their fps
>Killzone 3 gets an entire gun to place the move control into
>playing with the move controls in the online gave the player autoaim to the head that could even stay locked on shortly after a player hid behind something so bullets would teleport through stuff to deliver the headshots
God i wish i could go back to the glory days of this games mp. Some of the most fun I've had playing a game.
Radec Academy
You ever tried the dlc maps, the train map was fantastic
Forgot all about that, one of the top 3 along with this one here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwNcgBXgtCU and that big desert map
Strange seeing defend the objective and assassinate the target and not seeing an entire squad of assaults kamikazing in with rocket and grenade launchers
it;'s funny the way the bots can't figure out the machine gun
You could try getting people to play it on PC through the emulator. It actually works.
is there enough of a population to be able to find servers with randos or are you gonna need a dedicated group to ever get matches going?
Definitely the latter.
frick
The guys making the servers set up events on discord for the games they support, there's one for Killzone 2 DLC maps on the 10th. Other than special days like that you're gonna need a group, or see if people on their discord want to play.
man i might check into emulating killzones on my PC just cuz the setting is so fricking cool
i've always been a xboner so i was always jealous of some playstation games, this being one of 'em
i wanna play motorstorm, as well
Americans are the ISA
The Middle East is the Helghast
Funny how they have you play as the americ**ts and portray them as the good guys when it's the opposite
Frick the ISA.
We need a new game that lets you play as the Helghast and kill ISA mutts
I'm sad this series died.
Just like how I'm sad Resistance died, as both were the go to fps games of the Ps3.
>didn't have PS3 during the Resistance 1 days
>avoided Resistance 2 because I heard it was a Halo clone
>finally play 3, SP was kino but MP was CODized
I suppose it's my fault, wish I'd gotten to play 1 or 2 during their peak though
2 was already codized, you could only carry 2 guns and i don't remember if they scrapped the health pak + regen system of the first one or not
the mp was fun though, i played it quite a lot
Resistance 2 was a mixed bag. Singleplayer wasnt bad but wasnt great either, the multiplayer though was fantastic with the 6 player coops and 64 player tdm being the standouts
I can't unsee this boxart as a giant face with the 4 silhouettes of people as the teeth inside a big stupid mouth.
The mp was kino. I miss early psn days
Frick I miss Killzone
hay guise
military babysitter #4590
its a legitimate experience
more legitimate than the other babysitters
I have taste
Hate how this game is trapped in pstripple purgatory for all eternity
Really miss the multiplayer. The revolver was cool as hell once you finally unlocked it. So fricking satisfying
Jim stop being a gay and bring this back already
maybe they will with CoD going PC/Xbox exclusive in a few years from now, Sony will want a FPS franchise for PS5
It's like an entirely different art team took over after development for Killzone Merc had ended.
>play as Helghast
>only shooting at generic space muhreens
I don't think there was a way to fulfill that request effectively. Mercenary probably came the closest since you're behind both combat lines
Maybe a helghast civil war, or they'd have to reinvent the ISA to be more visually interesting and have a variety of specialized units with strengths and weaknesses to give the gameplay variety.
Shadow Fall fricked up suck a kino setting. The ISA world is so dogshit boring compared to Helghan
It was very utilitarian and industrial yes, all in service of the aesthetic.
>sharp and orange = LE BAD
>soft, round, and blue = le good 😀
I fricking hate nusony so much Jesus Christ
Helghast civil war would have been the best way to do it. And there's plenty of reason for it, given how the government nuked its own side. If that fact ever got out, it'd be instant civil war.
Thats probably what KZ3 should have been since it was almost a civil war between Stahl's and Orlock's factions anyway. It would have been the right time too since people wanted a helghast campaign and were excited at first when the game opens with you playing as one only to reveal that its Sev in disguise.
Visari having the capital nuked is probably the worst kept secret of the war.
>entire city is abandoned except for a skeleton crew of forces
>all of the helghan generals, commanders, and high lvl politicians know about it
>the other 95% of the helghan army and navy dont come out of hiding to attack until majority of the ISA forces are in the city and get nuked
>ISA forces know Radic kicked their asses and took a nuke
I played the hell out of killzone 2. Has to be one of my most played for online multiplayer hours. Mostly played medic or engineer
Killzone 2s MP to this day remains one of my favorites. 3 was great but a clear downgrade to 2 and Mercenary is underrated
the assault rifle is my favorite fps gun in any game
A surprisingly sexy mashup of an M16 and an SA80. Best thing about the weapons in this game is that they actually felt real, and they had weight to them
Yes and this is why COD fanboys couldn't stand the game. They'd rather spray and pray rather than aim and fire controlled bursts.
>ISA used mashed up versions of the burger and bong rifles
>Helghast use a glorified spess FAMAS with a plastic barrel mag
The game manual for the first game was rad for having pages dedicated to all of the equipment used in the game. Presenting it all like it was some ingame newspaper was a kino format back when people could still read.
>tfw they removed the op noobtube and underbarrel shotty for the helghast rifles from the first game
great reload animation
>bad guys are inhuman fascist psychopaths
always a waste when this is done. More games should strike something closer to zeon
never played it, though im pretty picky about aspects of an FPS so it may be a good game anyways, may emulate it when i can.
A word of warning, KZ2 is really hard to get into because the game has an inordinate amount of input lag to simulate all the wait an infantryman is supposed to carry, so the controls feel heavy as frick. KZ3 less so.
sounds like something that would absolutely filter me hard (with me being used to mouse/gyro),especially if i didn't know, so thanks.
>the game has an inordinate amount of input lag to simulate all the wait an infantryman is supposed to carry
Rico literally did nothing wrong
Rico was a fricking ape and behaved exactly like you'd expect one would.
coming to pc
Literally no PC will ever be able to handle any Killzone game, except maybe Killzone 1 but even that's pushing it with its blandness.
You were saying?
>The gameplay footage was recorded/played in slow-motion and then the video was sped up in post-production.
That other anon is obviously incorrect but this video is just not proof of it.
>record native PS3 gameplay then pretend its PC
Nearly 2 decades and P.Cucks still using tired old tricks and still can't any anywhere near the power of The Cell.
whoops, fixed your image OP
>this game is underrated as hell
No sony game will ever get a reasonable and honest thread anon, don't bother.
LittelBigPlanet is the single most soulful platformer ever made in all of gaming, and autistic soulless robots on this board will never get it
Based and LBPilled
If only things didn't go to shit with copied levels and the fricked up rollout of Dreams.
>no mouselook
Shame, but I'll give it a shot to see if the input latency is better than on original hardware.
The cell processor shit really fricked up the backwards compatibility for some of the best games of all time.
>>no mouselook
RPCS3 + KAMI, support was officially added 2 weeks ago. KZ1/2/3 all work.
I used to make so many gas masks like a military /k/ sperg on that game nonstop
god the multiplayer in this was so fricking fun, i must have put hundreds of hours into it, i remember killzone 3 coming out and being immensely disappointed in the online
GG got pissed when the player count for KZ3 cut in half in a week and KZ2 player count soared past it.
I played the demo for this game over and over so many times when I was a kid waiting for it to come out. Everytime that it'd end on the ledge/platform in the warehouse I'd jump around as if I could get past to some extra area if I tried hard enough. I just remembered, just now, how happy I was when the game finally released and I could actually play past that part.
anyone remember this? young me thought it was cool as frick but hard as frick
but I was an idiot back then, is it worth going back to now?
really bizarre camera but still kino nonetheless. I love that every killzone from 2 onwards has the silent right hand man badass
yeah liberation was good but hard as frick as you said. coincidentally resistance also had a good, surprisingly hard third person PSP spinoff
Is it worth getting a vita or psp to play this and burning skies? I love the resistance trilogy on ps3 and retribution always looked kino
>killzone thread
Damn, maybe Ganker isn't filled with as many homosexuals as I thought
but killzone 1 sucked before
what made you think we wanted more?
SONY YOU WENT WRONG WITH YOUR PS3
It's literally unplayable due to single digit frame rates and input lag.
Killzone 1 had decent main characters
Haha, nope.
> generic main character man.
> love interest for generic main character man to have cringe dialog with.
> over-the-top gung-ho racist stereotype man.
> actually kino half-blood intellectual.
Well you got one of em right at least.
All KZ did was remind me how much I needed a entire game based on the death korp of krieg
Shadowfall is more underrated imo, fantastic graphics and aesthetics, especially for 2013.
The problem with Shadowfall is that its worldbuilding is moronic.
True, but it still looks great
It shit all over the realistic sci-fi that Killzone was known for in favour of generic overdesigned sci-fi. The story was moronic, the map design was moronic, the characters were somehow worse than earlier entries, the combat design went all out of wack, etc. Shadowfall deserves to be forgotten.
I know it looks very generic, but I like it.
Fair enough, glad you're able to enjoy it at least.
Shadow fall was AWFUL and honestly looked worse than KZ3
Is the multiplayer active on playstation now ?
Theres no servers, but theres an emulator on PC that people can do mp on
Where's hakha?
The only good game Guerilla made.
Why the frick didn't Snoy make Killzone 2 & 3 a VR priority? Doom 3 in VR is great I can only imagine how good they'd be
I looked at this thumbnail and saw a grinning amerimutt goblino face at first
It was a best-seller and got many 10/10s. Can't say the same for the piece of shit franchise GG abandoned it for.
This was the last multiplayer game I got really into. When they updated the guns to handle like CoD I dropped it. Fricking idiot devs ruined the one unique aspect it had.
Pre-"""update""" it had the best feeling guns out of any console shooter ever.
KZ2 and Resistance 2 were both amazing I miss those days when games that had genuine effort put into them came out what happened to those?
Rico did EVERYTHING wrong.
Killzone series up until the last one have absolute stellar aesthetics and I wish I could rescue Helghast from the shitty series into their own protagonist game
read
>read my pseud babble
No one cares. No one will ever care. You are neither clever nor insightful.
Devs being out of touch, like the whole Ubisoft Farcry5 thing with the song "Keep Your Rifle By Your Side"
For the Helghast it would apparently be too "problematic" to make them the protagonists because of what they're based on.
I'm way lost here. What was this about Ubisoft?
Farcry 5 had a song in it that was supposed to parody right wing americans but the audience loved it unironically and Ubisoft got really buttmad about it.
Funny thing is the Brits did the same thing during the Revolutionary War with Yankee Doodle Dandy, a song meant to make fun of colonials but they liked it and made it their own.
God I fricking hate gaming companies.
Back in the day being pozzed wasn't as overt as it is now.
Reminder that the servers are back and everyone in this thread should be playing online right now.
I have permanent PTSD after getting that godawful grand cross trophy on the buggy servers that only saved your progress 1/3 of the time.
Are the first three games even worth playing if the only thing I know and like about the series are the Helghasts?
2 is the only good game in the series. Play that and only that and get online so I can shoot you.
What'd be the best way to play them?
PS3. The first game has a ps3 port. I don't know much about emulation though so can't say if that's worth it.
Yes. The gunplay, sound design, environment design are all great and you at least get to see the Helghast in action even if they don't win.
Only played the first one and the third one. First one was my first shooter in fact.
One of the worst console FPS ever mechanically speaking, game is only saved by good art design.
The aiming in this game felt so weird. Like your aim was sliding all over the screen. Hated it.
I think that is because it lacked aim assist and this was combined with the fact it is a console FPS on PS3 where the games also were a lot less responsive than practically all shooters on the market at that point. Its really no surprise to me why the series never took off despite me liking 2 and 3.
*dabs all over ar plebs*
This guy knows, that thing was severely underrated in mp.
Indeed. Mp is also absolutely fantastic.
I wish they'd let us play as the Helghast.
>thread gets derailed on politics.
many such cases
threadly reminder that the Helghast are the victims
honestly the worst FPS game I played.
>Salamun Market
My guy. I don't know what it was about that map but it never got old, def the best one.
I liked it, besides the guns being really fricking inaccurate. Still have to play 3... was that good?
It was ok, a little more gimmicky
Thanks doods.
How does this and the third game emulate?
they both don't emulate well yet. Lots of fps slowdowns.
>he doesn't remember when they buffed the air sentries so that they'd hit headshots way more often than they should have
>engineer class taking both the ground turret and the air sentry and just spawn camping with them
>certain guns in multiplayer being absolutely fricking useless because of weird weapon spray patterns
the ISA machine gun that looked like an M249 SAW was fricking GARBAGE but the helghast one that looked like an MG42 that you couldn't aim down the sights with was great because the spray pattern would always get lucky headshots
game was fun as shit back in the day though and I really liked the long multiplayer matches where you cycle through multiple different game modes in one match
Did you ever play any of the custom matches where all of the match types were set to the max time? A match could easily last over an hour but you could also rake up 500+ kills
yeah those were fun, but it was annoying that the game wouldn't save any stat progression if you dropped from the game before the match ended
It's absolutely not, the gameplay is dogshit
I remember when Killzone 2 was hyped as the Playstation 3 saver/Halo killer.
It was certainly better than Halo but for some reason the 360 was the multiplayer console and ps3 was the single player. Never understood that given that psn was free
it definitely wasn't better than Halo
not that anon and while I don't really wanna argue about which was better by any objective analysis, I definitely had way more fun with KZ2's MP than Halo's.
>It was certainly better than Halo
This is ridiculous it wasn't even close. I liked KZ 2&3 but lets not act like it was better than one of the generation defining shooters of the era.
Onions
We know that Sony now has a vested interest in the PC platform. Do we think there’s a non-zero chance we’ll ever get remaster ports of stuff like Killzone 2 and Infamous? I know dealing with the PS3 is a big ask for devs, but some of that first party stuff should absolutely be easily playable on a PS5, bare minimum. RPCS3 is outpacing Sony, the creator of the machine.
Sony remade DeS and TLOU
PS3 games are already too old enough for Sony, PC doesn't even get Nathan Drake Collection, only 4 and Lost Legacy
>input lag the game
the reason Call of Duty became so massively popular in the 7th gen, was because it was actually responsive and targeted 60 fps on consoles
very underrated, even with the sporadic praise it gets on here
it's been like 10 but I remember enjoying it immensely despite the input lag

Great games. Lots of good memories playing the mp in my dimly lit basement. I was that homosexual with the sneaky turret placements guarding the chokepoints.
so was resistance 2
