Crash is decent, if you can get the enemy into body slam loops then their fricking dead.
Coco is probably the second best in the game because she can do the body slam loops but also gets a freed speed boost and utility because of the laser wall.
Dingo is the designated scrub character who sits on the enemys bank and waits for the rest of the team to carry him.
N. Brio is a more extreme version of Dingo but gets decimated when someone like Crash/Coco who can slide/body slam to knock him out of his potion decides to focus on him.
Nu-Tawna's uppercut combo is amusing with how you can knock people down into pits but she probably isn't meta because everything else about her is sort of weak.
N. Tropy is middle of the road, doesn't do anything special aside from the extremely telegraphed slams.
Catbat is the games healsut, literally cant do anything other than run away, get to gems slightly faster and toss burgers that don't actually stop people who know how to play from chasing you down and raping you.
Cortex might be the strongest in the game, hitting anyone with the transformation + double headbutt combo at least once or twice will leave them at deaths door and his raygun spam makes finishing them off easy, Piano spam is also really strong if you know how to aim it quickly.
I think N.Brio kind of sucks. Every character has a knockback in some way so as long as you just keep bullying him he can't transform. ALthough he can be frustrating if he just spams jump flask throw.
Coco is crazy busted when you get her right. The dash is a mini shield to that stops projectiles and you can slam on someone and place it right on them. I've had long ass gem point fights with good Coco players.
N.Trophy is shit. She's supposed to be a ranged blocker but like Cortex she sucks in any area that's not a flat surface. They want you to sit on the enmy bank and just spam the range attacks to constantly push people, its not fun. Her slam is garbage to, super long, no damage.
Catbat's dive bomb is nice for kill steals but that's about it. Burger snipes are fun though.

By the time IAT came around, the damage had been done...And it was only made worst by them killing off Tawna.

It released just before GTA3 changed what a must-have game was, so Platformer was still the peak genre. The simple answer is we don't actually know how much Crash 4 sold. Clearly enough that Activision of all companies didn't shut Toys For Bob down, let alone enough to let them make another Crash game. Rumble will bomb for sure with how little marketing has been done for it and how people won't want to buy it knowing it will either be shut down or going F2P in like 6 months time, but there is almost no logical way at this stage that Crash 4 hasn't at least hit the million sales mark.

How the frick does the PS1 version look way better? After looking back at the NST I'm seeing so many errors and ugly graphics.
It's the original's simpler art style, colors, and character designs due to the limited hardware they were working with. I loved NST but I wasn't the biggest fan of the realistic fur and graphics approach Vicarious went with, probably at Activision's command. At least CTR fixed the lighting and made the character models and more appealing and cartoony, but still. Pic related is what I hope a future Crash title can look like. Right before Radical Entertainment died they were working on a cancelled Crash reboot after the failures of the Titans games, and I still really dig the art style they were going with. Something very stylized and polygonial but also vividly expressive as a callback to Crash's heyday. It's crazy to me Radical finally understood what made the original Crash look so good and appealing, but unfortunately they never got to make it happen in the end. At least some of their work is immortalized online.

It's fine, just extremely repetitive with the combat, almost every encounter is basically the same. It has a nice comfy atmosphere and music, the characters designs are really hit or miss but the environment art it's amazing and looks great for it's time, wich makes the plataforming and exploration feel good.

TF2 worked fine without single player because it didn't have any explicit lore attached to it, and with these character designs that were made to be generic and didn't have baggage attached to it. I don't know if Halo was made as an MP game first or not, but the point I was trying to make was that from the start this game was intended to be a MP game. Taking the MP mechanics and trying to back turn them into a single player game is just weird and boring. I can't see an entertaining SP being made from this game that's not just bot lobbies. If they'd wanted a SP game they should have focused on make specifically one for that.

The only confirmed 6 month launch pretty much implies they don't have much faith in the game. They probably just released it as there's no point sitting on an almost already complete game so they just got it out the door for a quick buck.
These characters are fun to control. I hope they take their lessons not just from Crash 4 reception, but from this too, and make an interesting Crash 5. Maybe make it more open with a camera you can control, while keeping a whole bunch of classic corridor style paths or levels.
I've just read some articles today that Activision is interested in continuing the Crash franchise so let's hope for the best.
I love this game but its clear they don't have much intent of keeping it afloat. I highly doubt that its sales actually matter at all in the overall scheme of Crash. Its 'poor performance' want stop whatever else they're planning to do. I think this game was simply a case of "well we have this 90% finished game so we might as well release it"
The game is really ugly and lacks general polish. Characters, environments, effects, particles - everything is worse despite being a game on the PS2.
Sounds and their mixing are horrible. Some people like the soundtrack, but I think the style is too much of a departure from Josh Mancell's and most of them are put on repeat, but they don't even loop properly.
The idea of difficulty in Wrath of Cortex is to spam nitro crates and lab assistants everywhere. Level design is a serious downgrade here in general.
Coco is just an inferior Crash.
The only new ability is the fricking Nitro tip top shoes.
Classic antagonists are now atlasphere "obstacles".
Don't get me started on the fricking vehicle levels.
It wasn't anything new or interesting, and the characters looked horrible. It also had atrocious loading times. It would take longer to load a level than it took to beat the levels. The music was also terrible, the main theme was literally a worse version of warped. That being said, I did still 100% it, which I never did with crash 4
Catbat is nothing compared to Nu Tawna.
She's just some OC that was supposed to be a part of some MP DLC addon for 4. It had its own separate lore and didn't change anything. Yes still gross to even need to accommodate such garabge when they could easily be the exact same character as a pink rock girl.
Nu Tawna is cancer. She completely replaced a character for no reason. She showed up, took a massive story role, tried to invoke some emotional response (but in my world you died!! not this time!) garbage, and killed off the chance of the others returning. Unlike Catbat she's a part of the main lore now and she killed a character off to get there. And the worst part is they gave her a huge ass so a bunch of coomers ignore all the shit that Nu Tawna does because hurr durr big bum so hot haha.
I shouldn't be forced to chose either, but if I was I'd happilly chose the bat oc instead of Nu shitna

LMFAO I'm honestly surprised more people don't bring this up because it's such a fricking stupid and ridiculous concept to put into a series about a wacky, zany, moronic spinning cartoon animal that regularly gets blown to bits, crushed to death, eaten alive, chopped in half, or killed off in myriad of other cartoonishly brutal ways. It just doesn't fricking work. The recent Catbat comics tried to do something similar too with the whole "muh emotional trauma" from Cortex' experiments being a major part of his lore. Discussing themes of PTSD + trauma and Crash motherfricking Bandicoot are two things that should never, EVER be put in the same sentence together. Crash has never attempted to be anything serious before and it should never be anything serious. Frick even Crash Twinsanity did the whole tragic backstory thing better with Neo Cortex because it was funny and fit the tone of the game. Nu-Tawna's sad tragic backstory was so pointless and tacked on and the way she treats Crash like shit too despite supposedly being wrecked over failing to save her's from getting straight up KILLED, it's just so fricking bad. Never let women write your games.
Crash 4 even without Tawna tries to hard to be big for no reason.

And then 4 tries to make that concept some big deep thing about saving all the galaxies and then time traveling back to the past to make sure they don't undo their own existence. The friendship between them and Tawna was so over the top, why did they even need to be so chummy. Why did THE crash get stopped by one rope. Its not even a matter of them invoking some dramatic emotional nonsense, its the fact that there's one there at all.
Reminder that Crash as a franchise treats issues of severity as a joke. Cortex is responsible for Chernobyl and murdered his own family yet its treated like something out of a Tom n Jerry skit.
It's funny how the Radical games unironically got it better than the TfB ones, even though the humor changed completelly they still understood that the story wasn't supposed to be some serious drama.
The Titans games definitely had their moments, but mid-late 2000s Crash is just the opposite side of the same shit coin we're on right now. Everything was just TOO silly. From Crash becoming a bumbling moron, the permanent toothy grin on his face, and all the toilet humor and unfunny slapstick at every corner. Not to mention the designs that kept changing between games that would release only a single year apart. It just felt like nobody was taking the actual quality of the games seriously because they were confusing it with "oh you're not SUPPOSED to take the game seriously to begin with". And that's how we ended up with the fricking abomination that was Mind Over Mutant's box art.

I would only recommend Crash 4 if you only plan on beating the main story and getting all the Flashback tapes, nothing more, look up the endings if you're that fricking interested.

I have a knack for getting really into games that are gonna die very fast, last one i liked was rumbleverse and I could tell from day one it was not long lived.
In my expert opinion, this game will be EOS'd by january of this 24
A battle royale fighting game was AND is a good concept, but the thing holding Rumbleverse back was the fact that it restricted itself to JUST wrestling moves and a wrestling aesthetic. If the game gave you more options, both in attacks and cosmetics, I feel like it could've done much better.
Like you said, the concept was great, and the excecution wasn't half bad (and they listened to players and made changes fast IIRC), but the horrible art style and the fact that fighting games will always be a niche genre killed it. Doesn't that Battle Royale is a dying genre of its own, just like MOBA's

Yeah, I feel like a fighting game should have more realistic proportions for it's characters, even if the artstyle isn't realistic at all. It makes things easier on the hitboxes, and having characters who're literally just fat balls or stocky triangles isn't going to work well at all. Also, as fun as the game looked, I kinda feel like the combat and movement should've been sped up it bit add more combo capabilities. Like, no offense to grappler players in other fighting games, but it's usually one of the lesser utilized type of character players flock to, so revolving a game around just grappler-esque fighters seemed like it'd hold back the game A LOT.
If I had to guess, after. It's not like he could course correct Crash 4's artstyle anyway.

Crash is decent, if you can get the enemy into body slam loops then their fricking dead.
Coco is probably the second best in the game because she can do the body slam loops but also gets a freed speed boost and utility because of the laser wall.
Dingo is the designated scrub character who sits on the enemys bank and waits for the rest of the team to carry him.
N. Brio is a more extreme version of Dingo but gets decimated when someone like Crash/Coco who can slide/body slam to knock him out of his potion decides to focus on him.
Nu-Tawna's uppercut combo is amusing with how you can knock people down into pits but she probably isn't meta because everything else about her is sort of weak.
N. Tropy is middle of the road, doesn't do anything special aside from the extremely telegraphed slams.
Catbat is the games healsut, literally cant do anything other than run away, get to gems slightly faster and toss burgers that don't actually stop people who know how to play from chasing you down and raping you.
Cortex might be the strongest in the game, hitting anyone with the transformation + double headbutt combo at least once or twice will leave them at deaths door and his raygun spam makes finishing them off easy, Piano spam is also really strong if you know how to aim it quickly.
I think N.Brio kind of sucks. Every character has a knockback in some way so as long as you just keep bullying him he can't transform. ALthough he can be frustrating if he just spams jump flask throw.
Coco is crazy busted when you get her right. The dash is a mini shield to that stops projectiles and you can slam on someone and place it right on them. I've had long ass gem point fights with good Coco players.
N.Trophy is shit. She's supposed to be a ranged blocker but like Cortex she sucks in any area that's not a flat surface. They want you to sit on the enmy bank and just spam the range attacks to constantly push people, its not fun. Her slam is garbage to, super long, no damage.
Catbat's dive bomb is nice for kill steals but that's about it. Burger snipes are fun though.

It released just before GTA3 changed what a must-have game was, so Platformer was still the peak genre. It was still literally the best selling 3D platformer of the 6th gen above even Mario Sunshine and Jak & Daxter.

It does not include Physical sales (we know 10437 were sold in the first week for Japan, and "1000 more copies than Star Wars Squadron" in the first week of UK for whatever that totals to). For comparison, N-Sane Trilogy (up there at the top with 10,000,000 copies sold) was at 520,000 digital sales in it's first month, so Crash 4 was worse performing, but not that much worse.

Rumble will bomb for sure with how little marketing has been done for it and how people won't want to buy it knowing it will either be shut down or going F2P in like 6 months time, but there is almost no logical way at this stage that Crash 4 hasn't at least hit the million sales mark.

The DS version was actually pretty good.
It's the original's simpler art style, colors, and character designs due to the limited hardware they were working with. I loved NST but I wasn't the biggest fan of the realistic fur and graphics approach Vicarious went with, probably at Activision's command. At least CTR fixed the lighting and made the character models and more appealing and cartoony, but still. Pic related is what I hope a future Crash title can look like. Right before Radical Entertainment died they were working on a cancelled Crash reboot after the failures of the Titans games, and I still really dig the art style they were going with. Something very stylized and polygonial but also vividly expressive as a callback to Crash's heyday. It's crazy to me Radical finally understood what made the original Crash look so good and appealing, but unfortunately they never got to make it happen in the end. At least some of their work is immortalized online.

It's fine, just extremely repetitive with the combat, almost every encounter is basically the same. It has a nice comfy atmosphere and music, the characters designs are really hit or miss but the environment art it's amazing and looks great for it's time, wich makes the plataforming and exploration feel good.

TF2 worked fine without single player because it didn't have any explicit lore attached to it, and with these character designs that were made to be generic and didn't have baggage attached to it. I don't know if Halo was made as an MP game first or not, but the point I was trying to make was that from the start this game was intended to be a MP game. Taking the MP mechanics and trying to back turn them into a single player game is just weird and boring. I can't see an entertaining SP being made from this game that's not just bot lobbies. If they'd wanted a SP game they should have focused on make specifically one for that.

Shitflinging and doomposting aside it's entirely possible none of this even matters and they're proceeding with new game development just fine. But I dunno. Skylanders is dead, Spyro is presumed dead, and the Crash revival is at its lowest point. What do they even do from here? Activision needs a "kids game" release almost every year and TFB has been their go-to studio for over a decade, so who knows, really.

These characters are fun to control. I hope they take their lessons not just from Crash 4 reception, but from this too, and make an interesting Crash 5. Maybe make it more open with a camera you can control, while keeping a whole bunch of classic corridor style paths or levels.
I've just read some articles today that Activision is interested in continuing the Crash franchise so let's hope for the best.
I love this game but its clear they don't have much intent of keeping it afloat. I highly doubt that its sales actually matter at all in the overall scheme of Crash. The game is really ugly and lacks general polish. Characters, environments, effects, particles - everything is worse despite being a game on the PS2.
Sounds and their mixing are horrible. Some people like the soundtrack, but I think the style is too much of a departure from Josh Mancell's and most of them are put on repeat, but they don't even loop properly.
The idea of difficulty in Wrath of Cortex is to spam nitro crates and lab assistants everywhere. Level design is a serious downgrade here in general.
Coco is just an inferior Crash.

Classic antagonists are now atlasphere "obstacles".

She's just some OC that was supposed to be a part of some MP DLC addon for 4. It had its own separate lore and didn't change anything. Yes still gross to even need to accommodate such garabge when they could easily be the exact same character as a pink rock girl.
Nu Tawna is cancer. She completely replaced a character for no reason. She showed up, took a massive story role, tried to invoke some emotional response (but in my world you died!! not this time!) garbage, and killed off the chance of the others returning. Unlike Catbat she's a part of the main lore now and she killed a character off to get there. And the worst part is they gave her a huge ass so a bunch of coomers ignore all the shit that Nu Tawna does because hurr durr big bum so hot haha.

Crash has never attempted to be anything serious before and it should never be anything serious. Frick even Crash Twinsanity did the whole tragic backstory thing better with Neo Cortex because it was funny and fit the tone of the game. Nu-Tawna's sad tragic backstory was so pointless and tacked on and the way she treats Crash like shit too despite supposedly being wrecked over failing to save her's from getting straight up KILLED, it's just so fricking bad. Never let women write your games.

Reminder that Crash as a franchise treats issues of severity as a joke. Cortex is responsible for Chernobyl and murdered his own family yet its treated like something out of a Tom n Jerry skit.

Not to mention the designs that kept changing between games that would release only a single year apart. It just felt like nobody was taking the actual quality of the games seriously because they were confusing it with "oh you're not SUPPOSED to take the game seriously to begin with". I would only recommend Crash 4 if you only plan on beating the main story and getting all the Flashback tapes, nothing more, look up the endings if you're that fricking interested.

A battle royale fighting game was AND is a good concept, but the thing holding Rumbleverse back was the fact that it restricted itself to JUST wrestling moves and a wrestling aesthetic. If the game gave you more options, both in attacks and cosmetics, I feel like it could've done much better.
Like you said, the concept was great, and the excecution wasn't half bad (and they listened to players and made changes fast IIRC), but the horrible art style and the fact that fighting games will always be a niche genre killed it. Yeah, I feel like a fighting game should have more realistic proportions for it's characters, even if the artstyle isn't realistic at all. It makes things easier on the hitboxes, and having characters who're literally just fat balls or stocky triangles isn't going to work well at all. Also, as fun as the game looked, I kinda feel like the combat and movement should've been sped up it bit add more combo capabilities. Like, no offense to grappler players in other fighting games, but it's usually one of the lesser utilized type of character players flock to, so revolving a game around just grappler-esque fighters seemed like it'd hold back the game A LOT.
Yeah, to be fair, Crash 4's artstyle already kinda resembles Sly Cooper with the angular-ness of it all. Even if he changes up the artstyle for the next game, I feel like it'd probably be a side-step rather than an evolution.
Pretty much any multiplayer game released on ps+ also die instantly.
