I first played CS in 1999, almost daily till near the end of source. I haven't played much of CS GO and only 20 hours or so of CS2.
It's rewarding but takes practice. No other online fps game has such a steep learning curve. You frick up you are waiting 2/3 minutes to play again. You need to learn to control emotions and plan ahead, especially when you know your team is all watching you.
The young guys who love CS GO and CS2 would probably hate 1.6 and below, maybe source too
>No marketplace >No XP >No ranks >Skins are client side only >Players with 150 pings no unusual
CS2 is shiny, it's definitely counter strike and plays the same (I'm normally always top of my team) but it's missing something
Community servers. That's where the real heart of counter strike lies, maybe CS GO had the same issue. Source and 1.6 were mostly community servers, rat maps, surf maps, zombie maps, warcraft maps
There used to be thousands, from what I seen there is a very piss poor selection at least in Japan / Korea where i am based.
>Community servers
This, honestly. I continued playing World at War for years in a non-official server and it was great.
Corporations would never allow anything like that again.
>You frick up you are waiting 2/3 minutes to play again
That's why I dropped the game back in 2001. Then again, nowadays people are fine waiting much longer than that every death in BRs. I don't get it, it's boring.
>zombie servers are fun >playing surf is fun >trying to improve your kreedz skills is fun >you can dl skins for free, and pretty much everything is customizable in the game >you can put plugins like parachute and custom guns locally without being on a server
what is there not to love about the game? buy it, it's cheap!
play it, you can run it on anything!
dont wanna buy it? dl the non-steam version in warzone's website!
cmon troony! do something with your life!
Community servers.
What other big MP game allows me to customize a server so it plays to my liking, then play against people with similar preferences?
Hell, if some functionality is missing I can code it myself.
It's fun
It's good
turd-worlders
That's not Fortnite
i just want to go back

apparently, you have only played 1.6 or cs2, not both. nobody sane would say they play the same or are similar.

NFT hats, sir
So? Have people gotten bored of Poker in 200 years?
Wait I thought you couldn't play it anymore
Same reason people still play TF2 and L4D all these years later. They're pure, undistilled fun. No more and no less.
I BEG YOU
Mods and community servers
Same reason all of Valve's MP games still have pretty active playerbases.
>This is what pro play looks like
god damn take me back, CS2GO is way too tryhard. esports was a mistake.
>CS2GO is way too tryhard
>posts the most tryhard video ever
>webms you can hear
>that website loading progress bar
forgot that little homie existed but I spent a lot of time checking him out

Good multiplayer, decent balance, half life.
it's the original and real CS, better than the other turds. That said source was fun too.
My first CS game was when it was still in beta 6
