Yeah. It's boring. The translation is a problem, but even with a proper translation it's a dull game. Figuring out where to go isn't interesting and neither is getting there. There are several somewhat similar games on the NES that are much better. Simon's Quest just blows.
Zelda II, Faxanadu, Rygar, Battle of Olympus, Getsu Fuma Den. Some of these are closer than others, but the similarities should be obvious if you play them.
He said it "lacks" them, not that it has none at all
and he's right, there's only a few bosses in the game and they don't start showing up until like halfway through
It feels aimless at times, bad translation, shitty cut and paste dungeons full of invisible traps, important items hidden in bricks that look exactly like everything else, grinding for necessary items to continue the game, shitty bosses, color swapped environments, etc. Yeah it sucks ass, had it been done well it would have been a great game but they bungled the idea.
Late metroidvania ones did it better.
So do you think all the people that play that one moronic mobile game love it or something?
Money is money, I'm not gonna watch my kids starve because I was too prissy to clean a toilet.
Didn't James' wife also get fat, on top of accusing him and his friends of being racist and sexist because cinemassacre was "too white" and "too male"?
Well at least she gave him some kids.
It's really boring. Just compare the dungeon levels, which are the supposed stand-ins for Castlevania 1 stages, to any actual Castlevania 1 stage. It's like they forgot how to do level design. It does have a good atmosphere though.
The phrase Metroidvania really came from Symphony of the Night, and the similarities it had with Super Metroid. So maybe proto-Metroidvania? Personally, I lie to call it a Gooniesvania game.
eh even then I think the enemies and there placement are way worse than 1 and 3, and the bosses are easy as shit and you just spend too much time walking around and waiting
Yes. Castlevania 1 and 3 are great classic Nintendo games but for Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest, the game designers obviously were not thinking straight.
It has some issues >Grinding is a slog >The translation was butchered completely so you have no idea what to do and when and where with what >Day and night cycle text box unskippable >Leveling system is not even hinted about anywhere but its there
Music is imo one of the best in castlevania series
Yeah, there is a leveling system. The game just pauses randomly, screen flickers and you get full health. Its your level up, you cant track it or see what level you are but you do more damage. I think max level is 7?
Best vania out of the three first ones with pure gothic horror atmosphere instead of wacky disneylandish feeling of the second and the third game. Americans just have shit taste when it comes to Castlevania.
It is a divisive game. Some people hate it and others love it. I think it is a very good game. I think many people would have much fonder memories of the game if the translation wasn't botched.
HE'S GONNA TAKE YOU BACK TO THE PAST
TO PLAY THE SHITTY GAMES THAT SUCK ASS
TO WATCH YOU FRICK HIS WIFE IN THE ASS
>This game sucks.
With those three words, a legend was born.
Yeah. It's boring. The translation is a problem, but even with a proper translation it's a dull game. Figuring out where to go isn't interesting and neither is getting there. There are several somewhat similar games on the NES that are much better. Simon's Quest just blows.
Which similar games in particular?

5:40
ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Lacks boss fights and the few it has are shit
It's not very fun compared to the previous and next game.
it had boss fights
did you not play it or are you pretending to be moronic?
He said it "lacks" them, not that it has none at all
and he's right, there's only a few bosses in the game and they don't start showing up until like halfway through
It had boss fights, and all three of them could be stunlocked with throwing fire or garlic.
>Late metroidvania ones did it better
Even games from the time did it better.
Well that goes without saying, Zelda 2, Faxanadu, possibly Rygar is similar enough, these games are way better than Simon's Quest.
castle my butthole
I stopped respecting him when he advertised fricking Onions
Frick, forgot the filter
*Soilent
So do you think all the people that play that one moronic mobile game love it or something?
Money is money, I'm not gonna watch my kids starve because I was too prissy to clean a toilet.
What a horrible night to have no more love on the run.
How the frick am I supposed to know who "he" is? But yeah, the game is very flawed and the worst of the ogvanias
>Not knowing who the AVGN is
Get off my board
This is a Doug CHAD board homosexual
>Doug CHAD
This is Doug's wife.
what's she doing inside that woman in the pic!?
And James's wife is a frumpy b***h who has his balls in a vice
Didn't James' wife also get fat, on top of accusing him and his friends of being racist and sexist because cinemassacre was "too white" and "too male"?
Well at least she gave him some kids.
People are supposed to memorize an incredibly common phrase and attach them specifically to one person because you want to live in a time capsule?
33 out of 34 posters did, what's your excuse homosexual?
You a small brain zoomer or something?
I'll be surprised if 3 people itt actually beat the fricking game and I being obsessed with a video is nothing to brag about
Not what I asked
the english version of the game certainly sucks
It's really boring. Just compare the dungeon levels, which are the supposed stand-ins for Castlevania 1 stages, to any actual Castlevania 1 stage. It's like they forgot how to do level design. It does have a good atmosphere though.
was it the first metrodvania?
>was it the first metrodvania?
The phrase Metroidvania really came from Symphony of the Night, and the similarities it had with Super Metroid. So maybe proto-Metroidvania? Personally, I lie to call it a Gooniesvania game.
Metroid perfected it and castlevania copied it
goonies 2
kino
I liked his review of this, it felt like a classic episode to me.
They're side scroller rpgs like zelda 2 or the side scroller ys games
no, not even close
i would say metroid is i think
It's actully A Boy and His Blob.
No it's alright. Definitely easy as frick and the translation is the biggest issue but once you fix the translation it's an okay game.
eh even then I think the enemies and there placement are way worse than 1 and 3, and the bosses are easy as shit and you just spend too much time walking around and waiting
Yes. Castlevania 1 and 3 are great classic Nintendo games but for Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest, the game designers obviously were not thinking straight.
the grinding is awful
YOU CAN JUST
WALK PAST HIM
It has some issues
>Grinding is a slog
>The translation was butchered completely so you have no idea what to do and when and where with what
>Day and night cycle text box unskippable
>Leveling system is not even hinted about anywhere but its there
Music is imo one of the best in castlevania series
even the music is fricked compared to CV1 though because there's less variety
there's this really cool hack made by this crazy finnish dude that turns the day/night cycle into a palette fade.
Yeah and there is a translation patch too. It starts to make sense then.
>Leveling system is not even hinted about anywhere but its there
WHAT
Yeah, there is a leveling system. The game just pauses randomly, screen flickers and you get full health. Its your level up, you cant track it or see what level you are but you do more damage. I think max level is 7?
At least the soundtrack elevates it. Something that can't be said about Harmony of Dissonance.
He's not wrong, the translation completely screwed over the western release.
Good music though.
A cheap little remake of htis would be kinda cool.
this video is older now than simons quest was when he made that video.
now that the dust has settled literally what the frick does james do in his life that makes him busier than a coal miner
It's funny that saying X sucks is so deep in our slang that most people do not even think of the implication.
It's the best castlevania game on the NES.
I hated it but I've come to enjoy games that attempt to follow it more than I do metroidvanias now, when I used to really enjoy metroidvanias.
frick avgn was the comfiest thing to watch as a kid on israelitetube. i don’t care that he’s become a bald guy he’s still a great bro
I’d answer your question but I’m out of time
