I'm not saying that all plot twists should be revealed in the first few volumes but if we don't even know what this story is about until 5 years later maybe, just maybe, you might want to redraft it a couple times. Probably with a chainsaw.

I love how they expected everyone to hate Ironwood for what he did at the end of volume 7. But to their surprise, most fans seemed to agree with him and blamed RWBY and Robyn instead. They accidentally wrote an amazing character. Then they turned his insanity up to eleven in volume 8.

The biggest problem is that Team RWBY *had no fricking plan*. It wasn't a battle of philosophies, it was Ironwood having a flawed plan for a flawed situation and Ruby simply going "no u" then sitting on a mansion sipping tea while others did the fighting and dying because she has the power of being the protagonist of a badly written show meaning she always needs to be right. And the end result? Both Atlas and Mantle destroyed when James would've saved one, all the technology in the former lost to the world, dozens of civvies dead in the Ever After and who knows how many more after crossing into the middle of a nowhere desert in a sandstorm attracting Grimm. It's hilarious how the writers somehow didn't anticipate a man that keeps moving forward even when presented with the worst of trolley problems and whose personal song states he'd die without regrets if it mean keeping his people from harm and that he'd fight for them even if he's "despised, portrayed as cruel and heartless" being adored by the fans.
You know what the funny thing about it is? I would've gave RT credit if they kept Ironwood consistent. I know he's supposed to be the Tinman with no heart but they've already represented him as having a heart even if he was militant about it. If he was only an antagonist because of a conflict of beliefs with Ruby, it would've been shit because Ruby had no plan of her own, but I would've been able to say "Ironwood was a good character."
But no, they turned him into a complete psychopath right at the finish line just so you know for certain that Ironwood never had any point. They did the same shit with Adam too.

Unironically yes, in a cameo Miles said Neo was almost redeemed in V8 I think but if she was Emerald would've stuck with Salem. And if Neo got redeemed Jaune would've been the V9 villain. I am glad Neo didn't get fully redeemed though in terms of going back to Remnant (though I figured not, MKEK wanted to get rid of her and only brought her back due to fan demand), I hate that her driving Ruby to suicide was overlooked and she'll face no consequences because she'll lose her memories via ascension.
I hate that her friends had barely any reaction to Ruby's breakdown and suicide. Historically she's been the most optimistic person on her team to the point of it being annoying and self righteous. But in V9 she's so broken she can't even fill a cup of hope. She's having a full mental breakdown in front of everyone and Yang is now interested in protecting her girlfriend. And when Jaune also has a mental breakdown they rush to his aid. I'm glad the writers are telling us that it's okay to hate Ruby but they also have to give a reason for the characters to hate her too.
It was ridiculous and very sad that her friends barely cared and watched her drink the tea and did nothing to stop it, yet were all over Jaune, I guess Jaune's dick was more important than Ruby. I do wonder if episode 11 and 12 weren't cut if things would've been slightly different.

I think these two lines irritate me so much because yes Ruby's plan was bad but it's not like the rest of those brain donors were coming up with suggestions that could've worked. I know being a Huntsman is a pointless death trap of a career but in universe they're a gang of ignorant children inserting themselves into a conflict with world spanning consequences. None of them were prepared for this. And yes its fun to pick on Ruby because she's a self righteous child but she was the leader. She does take all of the blame for everything. Yang and Blake as characters were broken beyond redemption because of the writers pandering to shippers. IIRC, a leaker said they weren't meant to become a couple in volume 9. They were going to bond and get closer, but not quite there yet. But when the writers and animators found out volume 9 was likely going to be the final season, they wanted to give closure for the shippers.

That first point you mentioned is the only reason I was able to progress after my first attempt went sour. That latter point just proves my point that it was a horrible idea to make a single moveset and divy it up between four characters. I eventually just benched them except for navigation.

It's not just the main team that's reversed either, everyone gets reversed. Jauns is competent as needed by the fic's theme but isn't a one man army, and Pyrah is hilariously terrible at combat and adorable, Summer is alive while Tai is dead, Qrow is the one that left while Raven stayed. Ozpin and Salem are also reverse and the canons reasoning of hating the gods is turned into a twisted love. It's called "Talk About a Role Reversal". Its a decent read.

Not how art works, so no. Though considering show's questionable origins (like how Remnant's landscape was made from a ketchup stain on a napkin), perhaps the show was dead all along.
The IP still has some degree of value but would need a reboot done by professionals. The show cannot be salvaged in any meaningful manner though. Even if they suddenly got the best writers in the world it wouldn't matter as there are simply too many other aspects and elements of its production that are working against it.

Greek tragedy mode. Punish Rwby for their hubris (like being ultimately responsible for the death of Altas and the dissolution of any organized resistance by lying to ironwood and henpecking Ozpin). After they've suffered duly and, to be clear this isn't 'sacrificed for the cause' this is narratively framed as them getting their just deserts like a real tragedy, we can pick up the pieces and have them proactively making plans instead of squeaking platitudes, sticking it to any authority figure they can, making really fricking stupid decisions (morally and strategically) and generally lacking self awareness they can actually rise to the occasion as heroes. Active participants. Enough of this along for the ride 'discovering the big wide world' shit. We're well past that part of the story structure wise. We shouldn't be 'learning' fundamental shit. The board is set, the rules established - play the fricking game.

Because the writers dedicated an entire season to showing the in fighting between the Faunus but refuse to show things like the Faunus mines. So now everyone who didn't want Leo in charge is be justified because it wasn't because of racism, it was because of incompetence. The problem with Juane is that he's an irrelevant character with no reason to be there. So they keep having to make excuses to give him the illusion of relevance. This results in him and his group getting scenes what should have belonged to the main cast. This was at its most egregious in Ice Queendom when the story wasted half its episodes just to back track so they could include Juane, only for the logic behind his relevance to be actually stupid, as it implied that Weiss cares more about literally everyone else more than her own team.
I like how Juane is super mad grrr at Cinder for killing Pyrrha and Cinder doesn't know who he even is. And then they never speak after that.
Jaune was one of the best characters in the Atlas arc. His and Yang's leadership in their side mission was the ONLY content in the entire two seasons that felt like RWBY

This is partially undone in volume 7 and 8 when they give him a shitty haircut and make him a listener to Yang's girl problems

I thought punished jaune and ruby being pissed about everything was pretty interesting when I heard about it, did they do anything with it or was it a waste of time?
It started out good. I've heard a lot of shit talk about it but I'm going to stand my ground and say up until the last 2 episodes season 9 was almost good. Okay Blake and Yang are still vapid and Weiss is boring, those can't be fixed. But Ruby and Juane both take time to reflect on their journeys up to this point and are crushed by the realization that they failed in everything they attempted. For Juane he gets obsessed with protecting paper people, long story, that he's named after his friends because he can't take losing any more loved ones. And for Ruby her optimism and hope dies after realizing despite her good intentions, people got hurt under her watch. And she actually questions what ever qualified her to be leader in the first place, it's not like she knows anything. She does go into self pity which gets her into an argument with Juane but again I think this was good writing because she's trying to cope with her self image that's been shattered after 8 seasons of failure. And in the end she just curls up into a ball and quietly says that she just doesn't want to be herself anymore.
So this is it right? This is a golden opportunity for Ruby to change. The writers have successfully acknowledged all of the problems people have had with Ruby. Juane is at least outwardly more competent. Surely these characters can now grow in a meaningful way right? No. Ruby comes to the conclusion that she's okay the way she is. Juane is reset back to his normal design with one streak of gray hair. And everything returns to normal with the exception that Neo is maybe dead.

If you were invested in Yang's ptsd then you were mad because she stops talking about it after Bumblebee. If you were invested in either of these shitheads as individual characters then you were mad because some there was no build up to it, now the writers have to keep manufacturing reasons for them to be together so their relationship can develop. Effectively fusing Blake and Yang into one dual character called Bumblebee. So yes everyone mocked it and it 100% deserved it.
